WHEN LITTLE IS MUCH “Inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these my brothers, you have done it unto me” – Jesus (Matthew 25:40) There’s the story about a man who walked backward across the United States. He started in California and ended in New York. At the end of the journey, someone asked, “What was the hardest part of your journey? What was the single most difficult thing? Was it the desert, or the mountains or the rivers?” “No,” the man answered. “It was the sand in my shoes!” It is generally true that most of us can handle the larger challenges of life. It is the little things that bring us down … the hurtful word … the frustrating annoyance … the little worries …that get to us. More often than not, it is the little things that gain momentum and destroy a marriage, a family, a business or a church. There is wisdom in this prayer: “Lord, we can handle the elephants, but please deliver us from these gnats.” On the other hand, little things can bring positive results. The Bible talks about the importance of little things … the lost coin … the lost sheep … a boy’s lunch … a widow’s mite … the grain of mustard seed … a word of gratitude. One of the messages of Matthew 25 is little, when done in Christ’s name, is much - a sandwich given to a hungry man … a cup of water to one who is thirsty … welcoming the stranger … giving clothes to those in need … a visit to one who is sick or in prison - all little things. Big is beautiful! This gentle giant of a dog is so handsome, that he is going to have the ladies drooling! Colorado's only fault is that he got bigger than his previous owners had expected. He is very gentle with people, and seems to be fine with other dogs also. Such a gentleman, Colorado will sit on command, keeps all four feet on the floor, and is not at all mouthy. He is pretty good on a leash, and just needs a little fine-tuning on that. Colorado enjoys quiet affection and has such a wonderful warmth about him.

Kayongo’s Hope was founded by Ryan Kaminski of Wayland. It’s an organization that is striving to help the orphaned and vulnerable children in Uganda, Africa. The idea is that education can end poverty. Kayongo’s Hope is funding a primary school and orphanage located in a small village in central Uganda. This school’s name is Rising Star Junior Academy. Wanted: Old Cell Phones My name is Karen McGuire, the daughter of Jimmy & Kumi McGuire and I'm a 7th grader at Woodrow Wilson Middle School. Recently, I was accepted into a program called People to People. This summer, I will be taking a trip to England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales to learn about their cultures and what it takes to become a student ambassador. I need to raise funds for my tuition on this trip. One of the ways is recycling old, used or even broken cell phones. I am working with a company called PhoneRaiser in Texas. I send them the cell phones; they refurbish them and send them to third-world countries or people in the army. I found out through this program that 1 phone can contaminate up to 39,000 gallons of water if disposed of in a normal landfill, and that currently only 4% of the cell phones get recycled.

Joyce passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Hughes was born May 28, 1924 in Kalamazoo to Eugene and Ruby (Ainsworth) Sandmeyer. Following her schooling Joyce married Norman Hughes who preceded her in 2011. Surviving are a daughter and a son, Susan K. (Gregory) Temple of Allegan and Norman “Chip” “Ray” Hughes of Otsego; 9 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and by her caretakers Eric and Rosie Rittenhouse. She was preceded in death by a daughter and 2 sons, Sharon Lee Hughes, Mark Richard Hughes and Michael Eugene Hughes and by her brothers Wilbur and Ronald. Funeral services were held Monday, February 27th with Celebrant Bill Rose officiating. Cremation followed the service. Contributions in memory of Joyce may be made to The American Cancer Society. Elizabeth passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Hutchinson was born October 18, 1914 in Bostwick, NB to Walter and Edna (Morgan) McConnell. Beth and her husband Francis had owned and operated the Otsego Market for 16 years and then Hutchinson Grocery for over 10 years. Beth had also worked at the D&C store in Otsego for several years. In her retirement she volunteered for Wings of Hope Hospice. Beth was a member of the Otsego First Congregational Church where she had been in the choir and was a past Deaconess. Surviving are her children, Patricia (James) Crusen of FL, Pamela (Duane) Kuiper of Otsego and John (Janet) Hutchinson of Galesburg; grandchildren, Michael (Angelique) Kuiper, Douglas (Katey) Kuiper, Ashley (Eric) Terpstra and Brian Hutchinson; and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Hutchinson and by her siblings, Floyd McConnell and Thelma Scott. Funeral services were held Tuesday in Otsego. Burial followed at Mountain Home Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Beth may be made to the Otsego First Congregational Church or to Wings of Hope Hospice. Genevieve A. BUSK AGE 90 - PALM DESERT, CA (formerly from Otsego) Genevieve passed away on February 22, 2012, in Palm Desert, CA, after a two month illness following a fall. She was born December 9, 1921 in Kalamazoo, MI to Charles and Ida (Johnson) Wheeler. She was preceded in death by husband Eugene Busk who was her high school sweetheart, and her granddaughter Hannah Busk. She and her husband farmed, first in Schoolcraft and later Otsego, MI where she was a member of the Trowbridge Methodist Church. She spent the last 18 years of her life in California living in Escondido, Bonita and Palm Springs. She is survived by sons Roger Busk (Linda) and Carroll Busk (Charlotte) of Otsego, MI, Albert Busk (Gayle) of Bonita, CA and daughter Ruth Gazda (Greg) of Carlsbad and Palm Springs, CA; a grandson Robert Busk of Plainwell, MI, and granddaughters Emily Robertson of Plymouth, MI, Rebecca Busk of Lansing, MI, and Samantha Busk of Bonita, CA; and two step grandchildren Brian and Melissa Misner; also seven greatgrandchildren. As an only child, her family and extended family were of great importance to her. She enjoyed gardening, needlework and her dog Kaya. A celebration of her life will be held in Michigan later this year.
