Recommended Routes to Get You Downtown Plainwell MDOT expects that during the project eastbound M-89 traffic will be maintained through the stretch but westbound traffic will be detoured on a route along 6th Street, 106th Avenue and into downtown. MDOT realizes that local traffic may find more efficient routes..

•Northbound traffic seeking to go west will be detoured on to Starr Road (102nd), west to South 16th Street then north to Farmer and M-89. •All ramps on 131 and M-89 will be open except limited closures will be in effect when reconstruction work is done in the area of the ramp connection to M-89.

•Westbound M-89 traffic will be detoured at 6th Street in Gun Plain Township. Detour will direct traffic north to 106th Street,West to Farmer Street, and South back to M-89.

This summer, I will be taking a trip to England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales to learn about their cultures and what it takes to become a student ambassador. I need to raise funds for my tuition on this trip. One of the ways is recycling old, used or even broken cell phones. I am working with a company called PhoneRaiser in Texas. I send them the cell phones; they refurbish them and send them to third-world countries or people in the army. I found out through this program that 1 phone can contaminate up to 39,000 gallons of water if disposed of in a normal landfill, and that currently only 4% of the cell phones get recycled.

What is Heaven Like? “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms…” –John l4:1-2

“I don’t believe I have ever known a person (or at least a Christian) who did not want to know what Heaven is like – including me!” - Billy Graham While the Bible does not answer all our questions about Heaven, there are some things we can be sure of. Here are some words of faith and hope for you: For one thing: Heaven is beyond human comprehension. In I Corinthians 2:9 we read, “No eye has seen, no ear heard, or mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.” In this life our knowledge is incomplete, but in the life to come we will know and be known (I Corinthians l3:12). Heaven is a place God has prepared for all of His people (John l4: l-2). When I was ten years old our family moved into a home built by my father in Watervliet, MI. It took him nearly three years to build it. I remember the excitement when he asked us one Thanksgiving, “How would you like to move into our new home today?” Loving hands built it with all our needs taken into consideration. My two older brothers and I shared a room upstairs which ran the length of the house. On a much grandeur scale, our Heavenly Father has prepared a room for all believers in His heavenly mansion. The Bible says we “will share in the glory to be revealed” (I Peter 5:1). The most beautiful place on earth cannot possibly be compared to the glory of Heaven. Heaven will be perfect in every way. “When perfection comes, the imperfect disappears” (I Corinthians l3:l0). “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (Revelation 21:4). We will know each other in Heaven. In the miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead, Jesus made His famous statement, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever believes in me will never die … (John 11:25, 26). Jesus is the doorway to heaven; the doorway to heaven is so wide it takes in all eternity. Have you passed through the Door? Prayer: Lord Jesus, come into my heart and prepare me for what you have prepared for me. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Peace to you and please join us for worship this Sunday in a church where Jesus’ love is lived.

Ray attended Cleary College and graduated from Wayne State University Mortuary School. Ray and his wife Bernie owned and operated Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego from 1956 to 1984. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this year. They have four children, Carol (Don) Wuebbling, Judy (Tim) Conroy, Jim (Jo Ann) Winkel and Tom (Carol) Winkel, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Ray still enjoys hunting, fishing, playing tennis, playing all sorts of card games, watching Otsego High School sports and being with his friends and family. Michael Welcher, 46, went unexpectedly to be with his Lord on Thursday morning April 12, 2012. Mike loved being outdoors. He went up north hunting every year to his Uncle Gordon’s ‘Hunting Shack’ with his son, nephews and his Uncle Gordon. He also went every summer to Eagle Lake, enjoying just being there with his family and friends and spending many mornings fishing and talking with his daughter. Like his father, Mike was involved for many years with the Scouts.When needed he stepped up and became Cub Master and helped his cub scouts earn many of their achievements. He continued on through Boy Scouts as a Scout Master with his son Tyler. In his daughter’s younger years he loved going to her dance recitals. He tried to be at all of his children’s events. He especially enjoyed football, wrestling, basketball and track and keeping busy helping out at many athletic events. He’s been a member of the Otsego Athletic Boosters for 5 years spending a lot of time flipping burgers and dogs. His first love was his family. Michael was born September 21, 1965 in Plainwell to Lloyd and Marilyn (Mahieu) Welcher. On June 16, 1990, in Otsego, he married Stacy Deemer, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Tyler and Brandilee Welcher; his mother, Marilyn (Jerry Fenner) Welcher; a sister, Christine (Michael) Pallett of Plainwell, brother Jeff (Carol) Welcher of Plainwell; brothers-in-law, Steve (Mikkii) Deemer, Scott Deemer, sister-inlaw, Sandra Deemer; nieces and nephews, Dillon and Devin Thomas, Sydney and Ryan Welcher, Jessica and Stephanie Deemer, Brandon Bruischart, Megan (Chad) Bouwman; mother-inlaw Vicki Deemer, father-in-law, Blair (Jan) Deemer; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Lloyd Welcher, whom he missed greatly; grandparents, Clarence and Edna Mahieu, Paul and Barbara Welcher; and his uncle Bob Fales. Services were held Tuesday, April 17th at the Plainwell United Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Minor officiating. Burial followed at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Michael may be made to the Otsego Athletic Boosters Scholarship Fund or to a Benefit Fund for his children.

Nancy passed away Sunday, April 15, 2012 in Allegan. Mrs. Strong was born January 14, 1937 in Otsego to Carlton and Josephine (Franklin) Belden and was a lifelong resident of the area. For many years, together with family members, she owned and operated the Olympia Restaurant in Otsego and the Olympia Truck Stop in Plainwell. When she wasn’t working or taking care of her family, she led Bible studies at the Allegan County Jail. On July 3, 1953 in Otsego she married Allen Strong, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Terry Lee (Sherry) Strong of Arizona and Brett Strong of Allegan; 6 grandchildren including Adrian Strong, Kyle (Carrie) Strong, Heather (Brandon) Brennan and Taylor Strong; 7 great-grandchildren including Ella Nicole Brennen; her sister, Sally (Robert) Brown of Otsego; several nieces and nephews and by Kyle and Heather’s mother Laury Grove who has remained close with the family. She was preceded in death by her infant son Bradley, then by her son Link Strong in 1982, her brother, Richard Belden in 1969 and her sister-in-law, Betty Belden Hurst of Otsego. In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday April, 28, 2012 at the Emmaus Road Bible Church with a luncheon to follow. Burial of ashes will be at Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park North, Kalamazoo. Contributions in memory of Nancy may be made to the Mission Fund at Emmaus Road Bible Church. Amy passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012 in Plainwell. Amy was born April 19, 1973 in Plainwell, the daughter of Roger and Ann (Rouse) Kortokrax. She was employed with Otsego Paper Co. Everyone knew her as ‘The Pumpkin Lady’. She was the life of every party and had an infectious laugh and a beautiful smile. Amy was a great mother and loved spending time with her sons and all of her family. Surviving are 2 sons, Kyle and Joel, both at home; her mother and stepfather, Ann (Roy) Hoffman of Ellenton, FL; her father and step-mother, Roger (Nancy) Kortokrax of Otsego; siblings, Jason (Nancy) Kortokrax of Plainwell, Aaron (Jaime) Kortokrax of Otsego, Eric (Maria) Hoffman of Shelbyville, Jessica Hoffman of Otsego and Jason (Amy) Bos of Otsego; her grandmother, Valerie Kortokrax of Otsego; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; her best friend Tina. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Fay and Dolores Rouse and Gene Kortokrax. Services were held Monday at Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego with Rev. Fr. Gordon Greene officiating. Ron Harder, son of Leonard & Beatrice Harder, passed away April 11, 2012 at the Life Care Center. Ron’s family includes his children: Jeff Harder (Christine), Robin Laduke (Dale) and their mother, Betty; three grandchildren: Timothy, Kathryn, Rachel; three great grandchildren: Kennedy, Zachary and Nolan. He was preceded in death by his brother Leonard and his sister Vivian. Ron graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1951. He played on the state champion basketball team in 1949, 1950 and 1951. Ron was retired from the Operating Engineers Union after over 30 years of service. He had many good friends that he loved to play music with. He played the banjo and guitar. Ron enjoyed raising and riding horses. He was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Philip M. SHIMNOSKI AGE 73 - OTSEGO

Philip died April 13, 2012 in Kalamazoo. Philip was born October 22, 1938 in Manistee, MI to E. Michael and Mildred (Hall) Shimnoski. He served his country as a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy retiring after 20 years of service. After the service he worked for Honeywell retiring as an Electronic Engineer. Philip was a life member of the VFW Post 3030, a member of the American Legion in South Haven and a member of the US Submarine Veterans Holland club. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, including a 300 game, and spending time with friends. On August 13, 2011 in Wellston he was married to Kathy Plotts who survives. Also surviving are his children, Pam (Andy) Bowerman, Patti Hubbard, Paula Shimnoski, Peggy Ross, Penny Brown and Paula (Terry) Donaldson; brother J. Scotty (Barbara) Shimnoski, sister Joyce Ann (John) Jeruzal; 2 step children, Connie Rose and Randy (Lisa) Plotts; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother David Hall Shimnoski. Ardith K. BOULTER AGE 75 - MIDDLEVILLE (formerly of Otsego)

Ardith passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012 in Hastings, MI. Mrs. Boulter was born March 23, 1937 in Custer, MI to Clarence and Edith (Dixon) Hartman. Ardith was active in the 4-H in her youth and enjoyed showing horses. She graduated from Hastings High School with the class of 1955. Also in 1955, she married Arnold Boulter in Hastings. Together they owned and ran Boulter’s Hardware and Gifts in Otsego for over 16 years. Ardith was very active in keeping the store running smoothly. She was an active member of the Otsego United Methodist Church while they lived in Otsego. Ardith was a den mother, a member of the Gun Lake Women’s Group and an art teacher, she enjoyed spending time in her ceramic studio. She had a great sense of humor and was always willing to share her advice with her children. Ardith is survived by her husband, Arnold; children, Kevin (Robin) Boulter of Delton, Kurt (Teia Wagenschutz) Boulter of Plainwell, Brenda (Scott) Try of Portage and Korene (John) VandenBerg of Martin; 13 grandchildren; 9 greatgrandchildren; siblings, Carl “Butch” (Donna) Hartman and Judy (John) Seeberg; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brothers, Gary and Bud. Friends may meet with her family from 2-5 pm Sunday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 A.M. at the Otsego United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Shaler officiating. Interment will follow at Prairieville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Otsego United Methodist Church. Messages of condolence may be left at www.WinkelFuneralHome.com
