Earthly King and King Jesus - So What’s the Difference? “‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’” – Matthew 21:5 (N.I.V.) Some years ago I had the privilege of visiting the Holy Land. James Fleming, a Bible Scholar and noted authority on the Holy Land explained something that had been a mystery to me. I refer to the so-called “Messianic Secret.” During His ministry on earth Jesus told people to keep still about Him because “His time was not yet.” But on Palm Sunday the secret was intentionally out. The Messiah comes into Jerusalem riding on a donkey. One could be arrested and thrown into jail for claiming to be the Messiah. But no one could be arrested for riding a donkey! Thus, riding a donkey was a messianic sign that people of faith would understand. The obvious truth of the Palm Sunday story is that Jesus came not as an earthly king but as God’s Messiah.

So … what’s the difference? Earthly kings came riding on a horse, the symbol of war; Jesus came riding on a donkey, the symbol of peace. Earthly kings come with the spirit of pride; Jesus comes in the spirit of humility. Earthly kings appeal to kingship of the throne; Jesus appeals to kingship of the heart. Earthly kings represent a nation; Jesus represents the kingdom of God. Earthly kings are temporary; Jesus’s kingdom is eternal. So…which kind of king would you rather entrust your life to? Prayer: Come, King Jesus. Come into our hearts and lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Peace to you and please join us for worship this Sunday in a church where Jesus’ love is lived.

My son is like a River flowing across this land. If you go to the beginning of the Missouri River you would find a small stream. One so small you could just step over the River. When my son started his walk with God, he was just a small stream. With the help of Pastor Chapman he became a mighty River. God put his love in my son’s heart and the River began to flow.

Everyone here will help to keep this river flowing. Each time you think of my son and his love for the Lord, this River will flow faster and faster. If you go down a river you will find a place where the flow is slow. You can just walk along and enjoy the river.

Then the River is flowing fast and stirring up the bottom, making the River look a little murky. Just stay with the River and you will come to the place where that murky water will become so crystal clear. The River will become so clear that you can see all the colored rocks on the bottom, looking like precious stone and jewels. My son’s love for the Lord became just that clear. One day far into the years to come, someone will be thinking back over his or her past years. Then they will say to themselves, “When I was young, a young man named Charlie Keith came and told me about the love of Jesus, and I am so glad.”

At that time, that River will flow so fast and strong it will flow right into heaven and be with our Lord. One day Jesus will be walking by and say what a clear and cool stream, and put His hand in just to refresh Himself. Jesus will say... all because He loved me. That is my son. His love for the Lord became a mighty River indeed. Until we are with you again... We Love You Son Mom & Dad

Phyllis Wyma (Lewis), age 85, went to be with her Lord Saturday, March 16, 2013 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Arthur and Nellie Lewis and her son Jerry Lee Miller; sisters, Loraine Lewis, Elaine Pearce and brother Arthur Lewis. She is survived by her children, Pamela (Nate) McKenzie, Jan Marie (Theron) Collins and Joseph Miller; 4 grandchildren, Eric (Amy) Miller, Victoria (Terry) Wills, Christopher (Amy) Miller and Cody (Rachel) Miller; 7 great-grandchildren, Breann, Alexandra, Elliott, Kaylynn, Simona, Dominc and Carter; and special friends, Beverly Brumley and Jim Harvey. A Christian funeral was held at Otsego United Methodist Church, Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Pastor Joe Shaler officiated. Interment was at the Grandville Cemetery. Martha Lutz of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at her home. Martha was born September 28, 1944 in Huron, Ohio, the daughter of Lawrence and Violet (Tarring) La Course. She enjoyed sewing and visiting with friends and family. Surviving are her husband, Richard ‘Dick’ Lutz; three daughters, Sally (Todd) Tracht, Bambi Lutz, Michelle ‘Missy’ Lunato; two grandkids, Dominique and Nichols; a sister, Peg (Ralph) Bauer; a nephew, Josh Patrick; Glenda (Larry) Hodgman, who was like a sister. Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Lester and Charles La Course; and a grandson, Michael Tracht. Cremation has taken place. Hazel passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013 at her home. Hazel was born March 26, 1944 in Aberdeen, WA, the daughter of Clarence and Opal (Sweeny) Wells. Hazel enjoyed Bingo, sewing, quilting, gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She believed material possessions are just things, but family and friends are priceless. Hazel was a two time cancer survivor. She worked over 20 years in construction with her husband and sons and did factory work, most recently as a quality control inspector at Allegan Metal Finishing, retiring in 2008. On February 14, 1968 in Allegan, she married Bud Stewart, who preceded her in death in 2009. She was also preceded in death by a son, James “Pork” Stewart; a granddaughter, Athena Holly; her parents, Clarence & Opal Wells; 3 sisters, Marge Martin, Doris Edison and Donna Lambert. She is survived by her children, Elmer (Deana) Holly of NC, Sharon (Wayne) Youtzy of Elkhart, IN, Naomi (Horace) Bryant of Plainwell, Larry (Trish) Holly of Kalamazoo, Richard “Rick” Stewart of Otsego, Theron “Punk” Stewart of Plainwell, Kim (Charles) Steele of Kalamazoo, Bud (Sam) Stewart of FL, Jamie (Mary) McDole and Loretta (Don) Wheeler of Otsego; 34 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; a daughterin-law, Tonya Stewart; her siblings, Joyce (Richard) Koch of Shannon, GA, David Wells of FL, Dale (Margaret) Wells of Plainwell, Orrin “Ben” Wells of Martin and Albert Wells of Lincoln, NE; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Danny Trutsch passed away Monday, March 18, 2013 in Kalamazoo. Danny was born May 5, 1961 in Kalamazoo to Harold and Janet (Garrett) Trutsch and was a lifelong resident of the area. He graduated from Allegan High School in 1981 and for several years had been employed with Jewel in Kalamazoo and then Meijer in Plainwell. Danny was a huge U of M fan. Surviving are his mother, Janet Trutsch of Otsego; three sisters, Chrissy Trutsch of Kalamazoo, Christianna Trutsch and Alyssa Trutsch, both of Allegan; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father in 1986 and his grandparents. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 Saturday, March 23, 2013 at
