ity life is something that lures every one to take a chance to grab the opportunity. As there are more and more employment opportunities people are flocking to the cities. A rapid growth in city population is posing many problems that remain unsolved for many years affecting the lives of many. Pollution, congestion, traffic, amenities, hygiene, crimes, price hike, health are few to mention. Well planned, well developed and well organized cities are less to prone to these problems. We are very much fascinated to see some well developed cities in a western country. Cities, towns, villages in west are well planned and well organized. It is possible due to the civic sense of people living there. Though we claim to live in cities we are in no way can equal with a living in a developed city in the west. Civic sense is the prime factor that makes all the difference. Stand at any junction in Hyderabad any evening to watch people trying desperately to break traffic rules to their best. Our citizens do not want to waste even a second of their so called valuable time. They have no regard or respect to other’s time and convenience. One can watch herds of beasts running haphazardly in human forms on vehicles. Every one is proud to be an Indian to have all the rights to break every rule. Law is some thing that can be bought with few bucks in your hand. Citizens are least bothered to pay a traffic penalty with an over pouring wallet in their pocket than to abide by the rule. Development in the form of globalization has been dumped on our heads without a infrastructure at our disposal. Roads planned few decades ago are in no match to accommodate the over flowing traffic of hire purchase vehicles era. We have world class cars and bikes to purchase but don’t have proper roads to drive. There is no hindrance for purchase of vehicles, but it takes years for a road expansion. Not just roads still we are lagging behind in many infrastructure facilities. Sewer trunk lines are being built now after years of sewer overflow. Even now many places of the city witness dirt flowing on the roads during heavy rains. Drinking water through a pipeline can not give you any warranty for your health. One can not dare to drink water even in a class restaurant. While pollution is at its peak every household tries to add up some thing to it. Garbage is the concern of the municipal administration not the citizens, who are happy to throw any thing, any where on the roads. Pedestrians have to risk their lives to cross a busy road with no foot over paths or sub ways. Vehicle drivers have no respect for pedestrian rights. Hyderabad is a place where people live in such horrifying conditions for their own flaws. If some one has to be blamed for this it is the people live here and no one else. Hyderabadis need to be educated in civic sense.

Ganesha Chaturthi Celebrate the B’day of Obstacle Remover This September 1st

g

anesha or Vighneshwara is the Lord of Obstacles of material and spiritual order and His dharma is to remove obstacles and to place obstacles in the path of those who need to be checked. He could be considered as the most endearing form of all Hindu deities and His birthday; Ganesha Chaturthi, which falls on the fourth day of the bright fortnight of Bhadrapada, is celebrated with great devotion and delight. This year Ganesha Chaturthi falls on September 1st. Ganesha Purana considers Ganesha to be one of the unrefined forms of the ultimate Brahman. One can find His shrine immediately after the entrance in any temple complex. This symbolizes His importance as a guard or protector. He is such a simple deity that one can make a Ganesha idol with clay, mud or even cow dung as done in some parts of India like Tamilnadu. Being a secondary God not elevated to the highest level like Lord Shiva or Lord Vishnu. He is very close to the human beings and the advantage is that the Elephant God understands human problems better than the High Gods like Shiva and Vishnu. Humans can relate to Him so easily and get their desires fulfilled. He rules over the Muladhara Chakra, the lowest or primal energy centre in Human body that controls our sense of stability and security in this life. Lord Ganesha, being closest to the material plane of consciousness, is the most capable to assist us in our day-to- day life concerns. He helps us to get our footing, stand our ground and find our strengths. He is easily contactable and is called Kshipra prasadhi - one who blesses instantly.

Significance of Ganesha Chathurthi or Vinayaka Chaturthi Significance of Ganesh Chathurthi lies in the way in which people attach themselves with all their devotion and faith to the care and pampering of the all-embracing Lord Ganesha also loving called Lord Vinayaka. It is believed that Lord Ganesha remains on the earth plane on Vinayaka Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chavithi to bestow His presence on all his devotees. metro

On Ganesh Chaturthi, people worship the Astavinayakas referred to the eight embodiments of Lord Ganesha that abolished the negative powers of the evil elements that existed in this world. The belief that adds the significance of Ganesh Chathurthi is that “Lord Ganesha always comes to abolish the negative forms in every period and every age. Shattering coconuts on Ganesha Chaturthi helps you to remove your negative influences as this is considered as a spiritual technology that manifests in both your material and spiritual worlds. The coconut energetically absorbs your lower vibrations and when it is smashed, the energy holding back your progress is forcefully disseminated.

Various Incarnations of Ganesha The Kridakhanda of the Ganesha Puranas narrates the stories of four incarnation of Ganesha in the four different Yugas. ±± In Krita yuga He was born to Sage Kashyap and his wife Aditi. He had ten arms and had a red complexion and mounted an elephant or a lion. He was called by name Mahotkata Vinayaka. ±± In the Treta Yuga, He was referred to as Mayureshwara, since he mounted a mayur or peacock. He had six arms and His complexion was white. ±± In Dwapara Yuga, he was called Gajanana, one with an elephant head. He had four arms, white in complexion, and mounted a mouse.

Dr. Pillai, the renowned spiritual scientist has remarked “We sacrificed 2 truckloads of coconut to Naramuga Ganesha who is in the small shrine of the Temple in Thilatharpanapuri in TN, India. AstroVed employed about 20 people to break the coconut. As a result, the temple that was in a small shrine of 6 ft by 6ft space and was unnoticed so far, became so popular that, now a big temple is being constructed. It is all because of the worship we do. Ganesha has become more powerful and a big temple is been constructed. Therefore with the rituals you empower the God and as the God gets empowered He empowers you.” The Power of Ganesha is the primordial energy of whole cosmos and it gets multiplied on Ganesha Chaturthi. Lord Ganesha lifts our consciousness to the next chakra, uniting us with our inner guru, thus reaching the third eye where the root source as Ganapathy that is symbolized by the Root Chakra, the Muladhara.

Ganesha - the Murthy of Muladhara Ganesha was the only deity who even dared to fight Lord Shiva. He is a fearless deity who removes fear. Muladhara Chakra represents both the extremes of the fear factor. When it is slow, the person feels highly insecure while when it is in high speed the person is prone to take extreme risks. Ganesha balances this Chakra. He stimulates intelligence, enhances your problem solving skills, stabilizes your emotions, removes obstacles and hand holds you to success. Since the Elephant God, Lord Ganesha is the incarnation of the collective qualities inevitable to make a human happy and successful, he is always ready to give it to anyone who asks Him for it. He bestows His blessings equally on fools as well as intellectuals.

±± In the fourth and final Kali Yuga, He incarnates as a Human faced Deity, and is referred by the name Naramuga Vinayaka meaning Human faced Vinayaka. It is said that He takes this incarnation to relate more closely with the humans, since their connectivity with the Divine is least during this time frame. According to Sri Chandrasekara Saraswathy Swamigal - the former Sankaracharya of Kanchi mutt, Ganesha reinvents Himself and incarnates in every Yuga according to the thought patterns of the Humans that prevail during that specific epoch. Swamigal declared that in this kali yuga, it is the Naramuga Ganesha that is going to be powerful, because He is the Ganesha for this age.

Also, since Muladhara represents the element Earth; hence worshipping Clay Ganesha helps you to access his blessings and to remove your Karma. The sense organ that Muladhara represents is nose and the sense is smell. They are special features of Ganesha, the only deity with an elephant head. With His trunk he urges us to probe into things. Gain the blessings of Lord Ganesha with Clay Ganesha, which is a very special offering to make during Ganesha’s birthday. Clay Ganesha can absorb your karma just like coconuts, and when dissolved in the ocean will dissolve your karma as well.

What Does Each Part of Lord Ganesha Symbolize? Lord Ganesha, who is famous for his wisdom, sense of

humor holds a Pasha in one of His right hand to attract the minds of his devotees, to propel mankind forward on the eternal path and to remove obstacles from the way of his devotees, while the other hand bestows boons. One of the left hands that carry an Ankusha, symbolizes the demolishment of ignorance and a gentle execution to capture all the difficulties, while the hand that holds a lotus or a rosary, suggests that the quest for knowledge should not quench. The cosmic belly of Ganesha contains the seven worlds above and the seven worlds below with their seven oceans held together by the cosmic energy kundalini symbolized as a huge snake which Ganesha ties around him. Kundalini represents the unification of the feminine Shakthi energy and the masculine Shiva consciousness through the Ida and Pingala Nadis, which when aroused gets united and passes through the Sushumna Nadi which marks the enlightenment.

±± Mahodara (big belly) is Lord of Moha (infatuation) ±± Gajanana (elephant face) conquers Lobha (greed) ±± Lambodara (corpulent belly) overcomes Krodha (anger) ±± Vikata (deformed) conquers Kama (lust) ±± Vighnaraja (King of Obstacles) prevails over Mamata (egotism).

Shodasha Ganesha - 16 Divine forms of Ganesha Lord Ganesha is also depicted in 16 different forms namely Bala, Taruna, Bhakta, Veera, Shakti, Dwija, Siddhi, Ucchishta, Vighna, Kshipra, Herambha, Lakshmi, Maha, Vijaya, Nritta and Urddhva Ganapatis. These 16 Ganeshas were later logically associated with the various thithis or lunar days starting from Amavasya (New Moon day). On this day, the Bala Ganesha (Child Ganesha) was propitiated. On the next day, when the moon is seen as a very thin crescent and is visible for a very short time in the sky, He is called Taruna Ganesha, and so on and so forth. There is a hym called Ganapati Shodasa Nama Stotram (this hymn praises the 16 names of Ganesha) in the 24th Prakarana of Upasana Khanda of Ganesa Purana.

Lord Ganesha’s head symbolizes the soul, which is the eventual and supreme reality of human existence. His body signifies Maya and His trunk represents “OM”. His ears can hear all our prayers and the snake that runs around his waist, represents energy in all forms. He uses a mouse (represents anger, pride, selfishness etc) to ride, which indicates us to have a control on all these evil passions. And finally the “laddoo” that he holds in his trunk, signifies that one must discover the sweetness of the soul.

Lord Ganesha’s Various Divine Forms ±± Ganesha is a primordial God who has evolved and transformed over space and time. The Mudgala Purana, an ancient text on Lord Ganesha, cites eight forms of Lord Ganesha, prevailing over eight human weaknesses or demons. They are:±± Ekadanta is the Conquerer of Moda (arrogance). ±± Dhumravarna (smoke colored) overcomes Abhimana (pride) ±± Vakratunda (curved trunk) is the Vanquisher of Matsarya (jealousy) metro

A sweetmaker from Tappeswaram in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh has offered a huge ‘laddu’ weighing over 2,000 kilogram to the 52-feet tall Ganesh idol at Khairatabad here. “The 2,200-kg laddu contains 150 kg dry fruits, 250 kg ghee,600 kg sugar and 400 kg of Chana dal. Prepared completely with Ghee it will remain fresh for a month,” Mallikarjuna Rao Head of Suruchi Foods, Tappeswaram told PTI. He said the expenditure for this laddu, which is to be placed on the hands of the Lord, was around Rs 4 lakh. The laddu was brought from Tappeswaram in a separate vehicle in a procession and reached Hyderabad yesterday, where it was handed over to the Ganesh Utsava Samithi, Khairtabad. Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated with traditional fervour across Andhra Pradesh this day with devotees ushering in the elephant-headed God at homes and thousands of pandals set up across the state. Dressed in traditional attire, people performed ‘Vinayaka Chavithi’ puja at home and also visited temples in the morning to offer special prayers. About 50,000 Ganesh pandals are set up every year in Hyderabad alone. However, a 94-feet tall Ganesh idol, claiming to be the tallest in the country, was installed in Visakhapatnam at AS Raja Grounds in MVP Colony at a cost of Rs 40 lakh. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan S

arvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on September 5, 1888, at Tiruttani, forty miles to the north-east of Madras, in South India. His early years were spent in Tiruttani and Tirupati, both famous as pilgrim centres.

He graduated with a Master’s Degree in Arts from Madras University. In partial fulfilment for his M.A. degree, Radhakrishnan wrote a thesis on the ethics of the Vedanta titled “The Ethics of the Vedanta and Its Metaphysical Presuppositions”, which was a reply to the charge that the Vedanta system had no room for ethics. Professor A.G. Hogg awarded the following testimonial for this thesis: “The thesis which he prepared in the second year of his study for this degree shows a remarkable understanding of the main aspects of the philosophical problems, a capacity for handling easily a complex argument besides more than the average mastery of good English”.

“Revolution through Suffering”, an Oxford daily observed, “Though the Indian preacher had the marvellous power to weave a magic web of thought, imagination and language, the real greatness of his sermon resides in some indefinable spiritual quality which arrests attention, moves the heart and lifts us into an ampler air.” The thesis indicates the general trend of Radhakrishnan’s thoughts... In his own words, “Religious feeling must establish itself as a rational way of living. If ever the spirit is to be at home in this world, and not merely a prisoner or a fugitive, spiritual foundations must be laid deep and preserved worthily. Religion must express itself in reasonable thought, fruitful action and right social institutions.” In April 1909, he was appointed to the Department of Philosophy at the Madras Presidency College. From then on, he was engaged in the serious study of Indian philosophy and religion, and was a teacher of Philosophy. In 1918, he was appointed Professor of Philosophy in the University of Mysore. Three years later, he was appointed to the most important philosophy chair in India, King George V Chair of Mental and Moral Science in the University of Calcutta. Radhakrishnan represented University of Calcutta at the Congress of the Universities of the British Empire in June 1926 and the International Congress of Philosophy at the Harvard Univesity in September 1926.

In 1929, Radhakrishnan was invited to take the post vacated by Principal J. Estin Carpenter in Manchester College, Oxford. This gave him the opportunity to lecture to the students of University of Oxford on Comparative Religion. During that visit, he also gave the Hibbert Lectures on “An Idealist View of Life” to audiences at the Universities of London and Manchester. In his own words, “It was a great experience for me to preach from Christian pulpits in Oxford and Birmingham, in Manchester and Liverpool. It heartened me to know that my addresses were liked by Christian audiences. Referring to my sermon on

George P. Conger said, “Among the philosophers of our time, no one has achieved so much in so many fields as has Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan of India ... William James was influential in religion, and John Dewey has been a force in politics. One or two American philosophers have been legislators. Jacques Maritain has been an ambassador. Radhakrishnan, in a little more than thirty years of work, has done all these things and more... Never in the history of philosophy has there been quite such a world-figure. With his unique appointment at Banaras and Oxford, like a weaver’s shuttle, he has gone to and fro between the East and West, carrying a thread of understanding, weaving it into the fabric of civilization.”

The operation involves using a coil to remove some blockages inside his mouth. The procedure is similar to a heart surgery. The operation usually lasts for close to five hours.” “Salman had this problem about seven years ago. He used to get spasms in his face. But the pain would go away. In fact, it vanished completely after a year or two. Then about three months ago, the pain resurfaced. This time, it’s more painful. He couldn’t have neglected it further.” This is the first time that the actor had to miss the release of his film. RGV back with Nisha Kothari It is a bad idea to mix business with pleasure. After four years and seven box office duds, Ram Gopal Varma had realised it and had edited the Nisha Kothari chapter out of his life after being in a relationship for four years. However, after Not A Love Story, Ramu seems to have rediscovered his love for the actress. Ramu and his one time muse Nisha are back together albeit for a film titled Stalker. A source revealed, “Ramu and Nisha have been spending time together. The fact that Ramu has taken her back in his life implies that he could not forget her. Now, they are even planning a film together titled Stalker.”

While the details of Stalker are not yet known, a source close to Nisha says, “Stalker will star Nisha in the lead. The details of the remaining cast are yet to be finalised. The film is likely to go on floors next year.” After Nisha went out of his life, Ramu was involved with Antara Mali, who is now happily married. Clearly, the 27-year old Nisha is back on RGV’s radar. Planning a full-fledged film with the actress in the lead just goes to show how besotted the filmmaker is with her.

Fair & Lovely Asin Like all Asian women, Asin Thottumkal too has an obsession with fair skin. Despite being a pretty, dusky gal, she is seen in various photographs, heavily photoshopped as a fair damsel.

Bringing up a Pet

T

here are a lot of things to consider long before you begin the process of selecting a dog for your family. The most important considerations being, is a dog the right pet for your family and is your family even ready for a pet. This section contains many valuable points to consider. Take the time to think about these things carefully and honestly before jumping into pet ownership.

Dog or children? Most people have pets first, then children. However, this is not always an ideal situation. If you are pregnant or planning to conceive, it might be advisable to put your desire for a pet on the back burner. Your life is about to go through it’s biggest transition ever, and it is easy for your new pet to get less than its fair share of attention. Wait until you can give your new pet the optimum time and attention it deserves. metro

CITY TIMES | SEptember 2011 | 28

Infants require 24/7 care. To bring a puppy into your home during this time can be overwhelming and something is going to suffer. If you have children first, let them get out of diapers so you can have more time. Plus, it’s easier to teach a toddler or small child the guidelines for how to treat an animal. Owners who had good intentions give up their dogs to

shelters everyday. Remember that owning a dog is a lifelong commitment with a variety of responsibilities. If you can’t meet those responsibilities, neither you nor your dog will be happy. Honestly evaluate your lifestyle, your home and your pocketbook before you bring a dog into your life.

Realistically consider the following: Ask yourself why you want a pet and if you have the time (for house-training, obedience training, exercise and companionship) and the money (for the initial purchase plus checkups, vaccinations, routine and emergency care, spaying/neutering, grooming, training classes, food, kennel, leashes, toys, brushes, etc.) for a pet. Before you bring a dog home, picture this: veterinarian bills; housetraining and accidents that happen before training is complete; losing your best shoes to chewing and your best rosebush to digging; barking when you’re trying to sleep and begging when you’re trying to eat. If you aren’t prepared for all the things dogs do, you aren’t ready for a dog. Depending on the size and temperament of the dog you get, you need to have proper indoor and outdoor facilities. If your outdoor facilities (like fences and runs) are not adequate, what would the legal and insurance implications be?

metro metro CITY CITY TIMES TIMES || SEptember SEptember 2011 2011 || 29 29

Okay, so you’re still set on getting a dog. That’s great. With dog ownership comes countless benefits, including companionship, devotion, unconditional love, as well as improved owner health (in the form of lower blood pressure). Now there are even more questions to ask yourself, like:

1. Will this dog be kept mostly inside or outside? 2. Is my yard large enough for a larger dog to get exercise? 3. Is my yard fenced, in case I choose to keep my dog outside? 4. Will my neighbors be compatible with this dog? Will my fence keep my dog out of their yard? 5. And when you have children in the house, there are more things to consider, like: 6. For the easiest transition, you should wait until your child is at least 7 or 8 years old before getting a dog. 7. Be prepared to include and involve your child in researching and selecting a dog. 8. Give the child limited responsibilities for care of the dog. 9. Select a breed that gets along well with children. 10. Most importantly, never get a dog “just for the kids” because it never works out that way. 11. Are you getting a dog for the right reasons?

metro

If you are considering getting a pet to teach your children responsibility, you should reconsider your motivation. More often than not, pet care falls on the shoulders of the parents. Teaching a lesson isn’t the only wrong reason for getting a dog. Other reasons people get a dog include:

For the children To give as a gift To raise puppies and make money Just for protection Because you feel sorry for it On impulse

When you bring a pet into your life, you want to maximize the probability of it staying in your life. Make sure you are getting a dog for the right reasons.

The responsibilities of pet ownership At the very minimum, dogs require food and water. But no family pet deserves to live with the bare minimum. A good, loving home provides their dog with:

Food, including meals, treats, and sometimes special diets. A crate or other confined area indoors, including a mat or bed. A fenced yard or kennel run outdoors, including a sheltered spot. Fresh water. Exercise, including a minimum of two walks or romps in the yard daily. Don’t forget to bring a leash and pooper-scooper. Training. House-training, as well as good manners and obedience training. Health care, including regular checkups, vaccinations and dental care. And also emergency care due to illness or injury. Grooming, at home or professional. Play and toys that he can play with by himself.

CITY TIMES | SEptember 2011 | 30

Companionship, including lots of attention when you’re home and a secure place to stay when you’re out. A good boarding kennel is needed for extended periods of travel. Forgiveness for housetraining accidents, for digging and barking and chewing or for just being a dog. If you aim to be a responsible pet owner and teach your children the same, here’s why you need to provide your dog with the characteristics of a good home: Obedience training not only makes your dog a more enjoyable companion, but may one day save his life. Regular grooming not only helps your dog look his best, it can affect how he feels. A well-groomed dog feels better. Let a pet be a pet. If your dog isn’t being bred, have it spayed or neutered by six months of age.

pregnant and deliver a litter. Parents who want to teach a child to be responsible should have pets neutered before sexual maturity. Your child can learn about reproduction from other appropriate sources

Dogs that are allowed to bark incessantly disturb the neighborhood and often prevent people from investigating a disturbance in the event that something goes wrong. Cleaning up after your pet is your responsibility. Be prepared for accidents in public places by carrying plastic

bags or a pooper scooper to clean up and dispose of your pet’s waste. Make sure your dog always wears a collar and ID tag with your telephone number. Your veterinarian can even implant microchip identification under your dog’s skin. Make safe arrangements for the care of your pet while you are absent from home. Dogs deserve a safe, enjoyable holiday as much as you do. Always supervise interaction between your child and your pet until your child is at least 12 years of age. A side note on spaying and neutering: some adults consider it educational for their child to watch pets mate, become metro metro CITY CITY TIMES TIMES || SEptember SEptember 2011 2011 || 31 31

Ten Tips To Travel abroad A

far away destination can be an incredible experience. You will be exposed to different cultures, climates and ways of life. You get to see the world in a whole new way and meet exciting people in their home environment. However, traveling those long distances can take its toll. Here are a few key pointers to help you make the most of your destination.

Traveling in comfort One of the tasks you need to prepare for is that excruciatingly long flight or road trip. There are things you can do though to make the time go by more quickly. First, if you are flying try to purchase the best seat you possibly can. If you are driving ensure there is enough room for everyone. Second, take along a book, comfy travel pillow and eye covers. Third, think about taking extra time at your stops or layovers. It might take you a day or two longer to reach your final destination but traveling along the way can help break up a long trip.

Documentation Each country has different entry requirements. Some allow you to stay for 90 days while others limit it to one week. Ensure that you have understood the requirements and get started on your documentation as soon as possible. Things can get lost in the mail and workers do go on vacation. Give yourself as much time as you can your nerves will thank you.

Make sure your shots are up to date Just as each country has different entry requirements, they may also have different immunization suggestions. This may also depend where you travel within a given country. Also, if you are planning on backpacking into the great unknown it is definitely a good idea to get the right shots. True, they can be expensive but most of them last a long time. Get it done the first time you go and you just might be ready for any other future travels you may have on your agenda.

What can you bring home with you One of the greatest joys when traveling those long distances is being able to bring home a reminder of your time away. However, you do have a long distance to get back home. It is wise to choose items that can either be brought on as a carryon or can be packed nice and snug in your suitcase. The other option is to ship it. It can get a little pricey but if the item is a must have it can be worth it.

Make sure you have a reserve You might be able to travel in the USA or Canada with your ATM card but when you travel far away those letters just might not mean a whole lot. It is essential that you have a credit card on hand, if only to have for emergency purposes. Make sure you also check around to get the most bang for your exchange. Airports are notorious for charging extra fees so it is best to go to a bank or a business that specializes in currency exchange.

Is eating fish eyes the norm? Do you have a stomach of steel? Do your hands tremble at nothing? Then skip to number nine. If eating something different tends to make you a little nervous though read on. The best defense is a good offense so read up before you come. What are the cultural norms here? What do they call it and how do they spell it? Knowing a little beforehand can prevent you from an embarrassing situation. Remember, although something might be different it doesnt mean that it is going to be bad all the time.

What are the cultural expectations? The best thing a foreign visitor can do when traveling to a new culture is to show respect. Though sometimes you might not know if you have offended someone. There are cultures where showing the bottom of your foot is a huge no no. So is shaking with the wrong hand or speaking out of turn. Again, read before you go. If you want to feel comfortable in your new surroundings make sure you understand what is expected of you. It is the polite thing to do.

Adaptors

Learn the language

There are travelers that cannot live without their shavers, straighteners or blow dryers. Buy your adaptor before you go. Chances of you finding one at your destination will be slim. I mean really, why would they have an adaptor for their own country? And if you do happen to find one you just know the price is going to be way beyond average.

If you really want to impress the locals, learn a few key phrases. Beyond just making an impression though, knowing these can definitely be a good thing. Finding out where a bathroom/restroom/ water closet might be or knowing how to ask for directions will allow you to feel more in control

Not to worry, you’ll shine & possibly save the day, making you the as a Hero. Once again, I caution you about over indulging your desires & appetites. You’ll be facing the holidays with the attitude to make this the best one ever. You may have a tendency to over spend or over decorate the homestead for the season. You’ll also be gaining massive support Virgo (8/23 – 9/22): while on the job this month. Matters and plans at hand will surprise you. The tried-and-true meets the innovation of the future to please you & your higher-ups. This plays giving you the credit you deserve for being so forward thinking. You could also receive over the entire month words and letters from those that warm, and at times overwhelm you with affection. Take the time to reciprocate. This could be a record-breaking effort in the holiday card department for you this month. You could wind-up making the postal service very happy with the out- going and incoming amount Libra (9/23 – 10/22) : of mail. The phone will be ringing off the hook. And don’t forget to check that email on a twice a day basis. There are going to be surprises there as well. There is also an interesting aspect for you this month. Someone you care about may be giving you signals that your relationship is coming to a close. Be mindful, but not spiteful about it. By the holidays, life should be back to a happy rhythm and go smoothly without incident. Bring those close to you even closer. Spend as much time together as possible.

Scorpio (10/23 – 11/21)

CITY TIMES | SEptember 2011 | 38

Financial concerns dominate this month. There are so many depending on you for your expertise & their happiness is directly tied to the job you do. It will turn out to be the best holiday season you have experienced in sometime, not by what you receive,

but by what you give. You have ample opportunity to break free from a former image that has plagued you unjustly for some time. With Venus & Mars parked the entire month in you First House of Self, you may find that people are drawn to you like a magnet. There will be opportunities to expand your friendship base and make new ones. There is also the possibility of meeting the dream person of your life. With the Sun, Pluto and Mercury in your First House of Self, you start this month feeling dynamic and purposeful. Use this to your advantage on the 10th or 11th. Enlightening Sagittarius (11/22 – 12/21): insights may come from your partner or Committed Other sometime this month. Be ready with an open ear and mind. The holiday season will feel well planned and easy going for you this year. If you’re single, romance could catch up with you around a New Year’s party just when you least expect it. September is your downtime period. You probably won’t feel much like shopping or going out of your way for anything until before the 25th. This is OK, as by that time the batteries will be Capricorn (12/22 – 1/19): recharged and you’ll be on a roll for the holidays. Also try to avoid overworking yourself this month, which could further lower your vitality and leave you open to a cold or flu. Your friends are at your side this month and may introduce you to someone you could lose your heart to. And wouldn’t that be just the worst way to spend the holidays? With the coming holidays, you’re in a party mood. Planning, doing, going. Whatever the occasion, you rush to it. Friends champion you into escapades, but just don’t let the fun surprise you in the Aquarius (1/20 – 2/18): pocketbook area. If you have a partner or Committed Other, you will probably have a wonderful month together, especially through the holidays. You could find a new creative outlet in your career this month. Something you’ve had on the back burner could get the heat turned up high before the New Year and this will be to your advantage.

Pisces (2/19 – 3/20) :

Your career is getting big kudos from the boss and those around you this month. You may be just a bit surprised on the inside by the attention, though you would never show it outwardly. Point-of-pride. At any rate, there is also a chance

for a financial windfall from your labors. If traveling this month, you could meet a new love interest. If not traveling, they may be from a distant land. Exotic and romantic. And as you are such a marshmallow romantically, you could tumble like a felled tree. Merry Christmas!

Love & Sex Yearly Forecast Leo: True, this could be property or environmentrelated. It’s as likely that the wind will be taken from your sails in the nicest of ways by someone who just loves romance - and might even be in love with love. One thing could lead to another with the momentum in this partnership building into something very special by 2nd week. If Cupid’s arrow does make its mark, expect the wound to go deep! So yes, this could be a life-changing when you’re held spell bound by someone’s words - and by the way they move. Virgo: As you well know, you don’t have to tune in if you don’t want to. However, given that those closest to you appear to be changing direction, their reaction to events could hold your interest. Someone just might manage to cast a spell over you. It wouldn’t be surprising if you went out of your way to please most likely by undertaking a fairly long journey. It’s quite probable too that planning for a reunion set to take place weekends will also command some of your attention. Libra: True, your logic can escape many people at the best of times! This month your eccentricity is likely to endear you to many but alienate a few. It might help to be aware that in the run into Monday’s Full Moon, over-reactions are probable - and that things could turn around yet again weekend. With Venus in aspect to Mars, relationship issues may be uppermost in many places - leading to some interesting dalliances which might even turn into something more by next month. Scorpio: Monday’s Full Moon is in your sign. True, there’s one like this every year but this one is part of a complex pattern all of which points to decisions about emotional baggage - what you want to take forward and what really needs to be left behind. You’re right, this might be nothing more than light flirtation. On the other hand, this might be just the experience you need before moving into the emotional fast lane in last week.
