right now The smells of spring lingering in the breeze, people watching intently from the stands in crisp white shirts, linen dresses, and sweaters draped loosely over their shoulders, and a competitive charge in the air as some of the tennis arena's greatest stars take the court... it's time for Family Circle Cup! Since moving to Daniel Island in 2001 after 28 years in Hilton Head, the Family Circle Cup tournament has cemented its rightful place as a must-attend event in the Charleston area. One of twenty Premier Events on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, the FCC has turned out champions with such notable names as Steffi Graf, Venus and Serena Williams, Jennifer Capriati, and Martina Navratilova. This year, the tournament will be held April 10-18, 2010, with over fifty players competing for a piece of the $700,000 prize money purse. For more information on this quintessential Lowcountry experience, call (800) 677-2293. While at the tournament, stop by the Charleston Home + Design magazine tent to say hello to our staff!

Caroline Wozinacki

In our constant quest to provide you—our readers—with the best the Lowcountry home and design scene has to offer, we've realized the need for growth in our small company. To help us in our efforts, we've added two friendly new faces to our team. Joining the production staff is graphic designer and photographer Matt Bolt. Matt is fluent in French (he even spent a year in France teaching English!), enjoys drawing and painting, and is a self-proclaimed nature lover. Our new addition to the sales team is Karly Cortes, previously of Charleston Lighting and Interiors. Karly loves the color pink, has a knack for people, and lights up whenever she talks about her daughter Faith, 5. Welcome to the family Matt and Karly!

NEWS

With the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner plant and Carnival Cruise Lines both settling in the Holy City, it looks as though the rest of the world is finally catching on to what we Charlestonians knew all along—there's no place like our hometown. With a two percent annual population growth over the last five years, Charleston is climbing the ranks of the 100 largest housing markets in the country and is the fastest growing city in South Carolina.
