out of the woods Utilizing Local Forest Resources for Responsibly Produced Lumber Products One year during a visit to South Carolina, northeastern-native Gary Norton observed that there was an abundance of under-utilized sources of local forest and forest products in the area. The notion stuck with him and so, convinced there was a market for these products, he decided to create a company rooted in the love of timber framing. The Timber Shop was soon born, and Gary set forth convincing local mills to custom cut timber packages geared towards the timber framer. While the company offers virtually any species of wood, Gary continues to promote the sustainable resources of the South with an emphasis on such species as Southern yellow pine, cypress, and dense long leaf pine. In addition to lumber,
the Timber Shop offers wood siding, paneling, flooring, moulding, millwork, and timbers. Since their products are milled locally using a 40,000 board foot dry kiln, a resaw, and a timber sizer that can plane a 16-inch by 20-inch timber to size, consumers can enjoy both a high quality product and the peace of mind that comes from knowing the product was produced responsibly.
