Coming Soon To “The Bench” Near You Every team will be offered a space every edition of the Newsletter to submit something funny... write about their game... whatever...and since we’re doing a newsletter every Wednesday of every week, you have plenty of time to come up with something! If your team doesn’t submit anything, and isn’t in the newsletter, talk to your captain!

Ideas for Team Submissions Then email them to me at backyardsportsclub@gmail.com

When I say, submit something for your team, here are some ideas: • Have a single teammate? Submit him/her for “The Hookup” • Document the debauchery at the bar - i.e. describing someone’s amazing acting skills hobbling across the bar with a “sprained ankle” just to Ice a teammate. ] • Draw pictures!!!!! • Favorite quotes, poems, song lyrics, movie scripts, YouTube video, or motivational speeches! • Email chains from the morning after . • Funny pictures of you, your team, or something random on the internet • Give your team member awards - drunkest, loudest, person with the least shame, best off the face catch, etc.! • Anything. Really. Someone on your team is creative.

Submissions are due EVERY Tuesday by 11 am.

Double Pitcher Contests

Backyard Sports Club’s email is backyardsportsclub@gmail.com. I look forward to working with all of you! DISCLAIMER: if you have problems with keeping your language in check, not bashing refs, being overly nasty to other teams, and other no-no’s, the Editor does have the right to not include your write up in the newsletter if the content is deemed inappropriate or out of line. We will try to screen write ups as they are received, will try to let teams know so that they have time to resubmit, but there is no guarantee. The easiest thing to do is to keep it clean, be nice, and remember this is all in good fun.

RIP Christopher The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit – Psalm 34:18

Many of you know Bernie Lofton. He’s not only our Ref/Umpire, he is our friend, our family. It saddens me to bring this news. His son, Christopher, has passed away…far too soon. Let’s all pray for healing for Bernie and his family. Backyard Sports Club will be holding a raffle this Friday at TVA to help cover funeral expenses. $1 per ticket or $5 for 6 tickets. Backyard Sports Club will match the money raised up to $1000. Jessica Floyd will have a couple cards at Dodgeball this Friday for everyone to sign. We will also need 1-2 volunteers to handle the raffle tickets, if you’re interested please contact Charm Wright, James Salgado, Jon Reyes or Joe Equitan. If you’re unable to be at TVA, Bernie’s family has set up a gofundme page

Week 2 Ref Schedule & Reminders REMINDERS: • • • • •

Start times have been adjusted to 7:15pm, 8:15pm and 9:15pm If Ref ejects a player, the captain is also ejected Start and End of games will be signaled by an air horn Don’t leave your trash behind And most importantly….DON’T WEAR OTHER LEAGUE SHIRTS!

Rule Clarification Section: Outs & Blocking Rule #8 & Rule #3 8. If you block/deflect a ball and lose control of the ball in your hands, your are OUT. The minute you lose control of the ball off of a deflection, even if that means you bobble the ball and catch it, you are OUT. • If the player that drops/bobbles the ball catches the thrown ball, it is not a fair catch. • If a teammate catches the thrower’s ball after it is deflected off of a bobbled/dropped ball, the thrower is out.

Section: 1 vs 1 & Outs Rule #2 & Rule #13 2. If a player catches the ball INBOUNDS (only 1 foot in is required, i.e. College Football catch rule) and then steps out of bounds in the process, the thrower is out, as well as the player who steps out of bounds. Both players are out if this happens. If this happens in a 1 vs 1 situation, whatever occurs first will be the out. If a player catches their opponents ball while in bounds, the thrower is out and the player who caught the ball wins the match.

College Football Catch - 1 foot needs to be INBOUNDS. If other foot is in the air out of bounds and has not touched the ground yet, it is a fair catch.

NEW RULE Section: Outs Rule # 14 14. If you are clearly falling out of bounds and use a ball to assist with staying inbounds, you are OUT. Player falling out of bounds can’t use ball on floor or ball with a player (who is out) to push themselves back in. The only assistance a player can have, if falling out of bounds, is a teammate who is still in the game.

The Hookup Jessica Floyd The one, the only, Jessica Floyd – a blonde hair, blue eyed ODU Alumn. Yes, that’s right…beauty and brains. Jessica (better known as Jess), was born and raised right here in Chesapeake, Virginia, has a degree in Business Management, and works in private banking at Towne Bank. She is an Aunt to 4, an obsessed dog mom to 2 (Lola & Cooley), and a kick ass friend to many. Jess is an experienced Backyardigan, from wiffleball and volleyball to dodgeball and kickball. Let’s just say competitive is in her nature. Speaking of nature, did I mention she’s outdoorsy? In the sense that she likes to get drunk on patios. She’s an avid Redskins fan, Bud Light enthusiast, and a Taco Bell connoisseur. You can find this feisty babe on Friday nights either teaching you how to dodgy at TVA or doing the Copperhead Road at Eagles Nest. Boys, don’t be shy, go say hi!

The FUnnies Anyone want to guess what she’s saying?!? I’m gonna say it’s a 4 letter word starting with an “F” with an “uck” in the middle. Maybe “F her”?

I get first look at what goes into the newsletter, and get to poke fun of others, so it’s only fair I poke fun of myself as well.

Beautiful Faces of Dodgeball Dodgeball faces are THE BEST faces! It’s like a sneeze…nobody has control over what your face looks like when you throw, get hit or dodge. If you think you’re safe from our camera’s…think again!
