Colleton Career Skills Center Class Schedule- May - June 2012 May ServSafe Starter Certification May 10 9:00a-4:00p $69 Instructor: Marilyn Peters The course is designed for food handlers working in restaurants, schools, grocery stores, day care centers, nursing homes, or anywhere food is served. Topics to be covered include: food safety basics; proper hygiene; purchasing; receiving and storing food; preparing, cooking and serving food; and cleaning and sanitizing. Forklift Certification May 11 7:00a-5:30p $239 Instructor: Xtra Mile During this course the student will learn to correctly operate and care for a forklift. Students will review the OSHA Safety Guidelines for forklift operation. Basic Computer Understanding Certification May 21, 22, & 23 9:00a-4:00p $285 Instructor: Lashonda Scott Students that are new to computers will acquire an understanding of basic computer skills upon completion of this certificate program. Students will learn typing, the basics of Internet and Email, and a general introduction to computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Pre-Employment Manufacturing Training May 21 8:00a-5:00p Class Meets Monday through Friday Instructor: Jim Wolf $2500 This program is designed to provide entry-level job skills to individuals seeking to enter both the general manufacturing and Aeronautical sectors. This course is NCCER certified. The course will cover the following subjects: basic safety, intro to math, intro to hand tools, intro to power tools, intro to blueprints, critical thinking and problem solving, intro to the PC, lean manufacturing-just-in-time production and quality, basic communication skills, basic employability skills, measuring and the use of measurement tools, and manufacturing assembly skills.

Forklift Certification May 25 7:00a-5:30p $239 Instructor: Xtra Mile During this course the student will learn to correctly operate and care for a forklift. Students will review the OSHA Safety Guidelines for forklift operation.

June Soft Skills Boot Camp June 5 and 6 8:30a-5:30p Free Instructor: Rhonda Johns Upon completion of this course, the student will understand an employer’s expectations regarding proper personal behavior within the workplace and general business etiquette. The student will acquire adequate computer skills to send/receive email and to utilize templates to create a professional resume. In addition, he/she will be able to participate in a proper interview with an employer. All students will exit the course with a professional resume that they have created. CDL June 18-July 19 7:00a-4:00p Class Meets Monday through Friday Instructor: Xtra Mile $3895 Xtra Mile Driver Training, Inc. of South Carolina provides quality CDL Class A driver training with an emphasis on safety. Students are provided training in classroom studies, hands-ontraining, range skills, and highway instruction. Xtra Mile offers job placement services to students and graduates. Computer Application Skills Certification June 18-20, & 26-28 9:00a-4:00p Class meets during weekdays Instructor: Lashonda Scott $495 The Computer Applications Skills Certification class is designed to give the student the necessary education, training, and skills to obtain an entry-level position in the secretarial/administrative field. The course will teach the student skills necessary to work effectively in an office environment and in-depth instruction on Microsoft applications such as Word 2010, Excel 2010, and PowerPoint 2010.
