how do you know?
How do you know…he’s the one? You may have been asked this question by your parents, your friends, even yourself. The answer isn’t always perfectly clear; he may or may not be ‘ideal’ on paper; you may have known him for only two months or perhaps you’ve been hanging in there a good five years; he may be a cowboy while you were visualizing a business man. The so-called ‘signs’ aren’t always there, but somehow, you just know. At Ceremony, we feel the same way about our Great List of wedding professionals that we recommend and invite to join our family of advertising partners. We take this vendor collective very seriously, which is why we don’t put arbitrary consideration requirements in an antiquated form. We don’t have a scholastic checklist to help us come up with an ‘A’ grade. We don’t even have a job application type form to fill out. You see, when it comes to choosing our Great List of recommended professionals, we believe there is no specific formula for choosing who we invite to join our family. Probably not unlike you, we take a look-see at Facebook, we inquire with their friends and colleagues and, most importantly, we get to know them by social networking the old-fashioned way (in person). In the end, we go with our gut. We just…know. You will find that some of these recommended vendors have refined their businesses over the past twenty years, while others bring fresh ideas after having recently started their own businesses. Many of our recommended venues are on the AAA Five-Diamond Resort list; others include charming private estates and everything in between. Additionally, the esteemed planners on the following pages each approach weddings in their own unique way, and we have interviewed each of them in order to give you an up close and personal look at their backgrounds, their ideas, and their wedding ingenuity. We hope that you will find this varied Great List vendor collective to be helpful in finding your wedding day professionals. There is no single vendor that is perfect for everyone, but there are vendors that are perfect for you. And when you meet them, you will just know.

Crystal was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and grew up in the Bay Area. She graduated from Santa Clara University with a bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems. When she realized her love for planning events and passion for design, she took her business savvy and management skills to create Amazae Special Events in 2005. Amazáe’s top priority is to fulfill the clients’ desires.
Amrit has been creating art in one form or another since age five (doodling instead of eating at the dinner table, much to her family’s dismay). With advanced degrees in Graphic Design and Business Management, She has been able to pair her organizational skills with an artistic background, love for travel, creativity and passion for design to develop unique solutions that are a perfect fit for her clients!
Crystal makes this happen by understanding clients’ event vision, learning about their values and personality, and designing an event that is one-of-a-kind. “Seeing clients smile because we’ve turned their vision to reality is the best part of my job,”expressed Crystal. “I am thrilled when clients can’t stop talking about the event we created together.”

Jutta, born and raised in Germany, is a physician by training and worked in her own office until relocating to San Francisco with her family. She decided against going back to medical school and starting over, but instead followed her second passion: design! Jutta lives on the SF Peninsula with her husband, and when she is not designing weddings, you’ll find her outdoors, walking her beloved dog, or in the kitchen, whipping up a meal or baking a cake for her family, all the while listening to classical music.
Crystal collaborates with her team and brings in top-notch event industry vendors to ensure that all events are flawless. When she is away from work, Crystal loves spending time with her two beautiful daughters and her husband, dances, and plans to visit all of the continents. My design aesthetic: Detailed, lots of attention to use of space for both functional and dreamy things, and always something different that incorporates our couples. My favorite part of a wedding is: The walk down the aisle. The most adventurous thing I’ve done: Backpacked 3 weeks going from hostel to hostel in France and Italy. Culinary craftsmanship and wedding celebration collide in the form of the tuna cutting ceremony. Michi Catering, a family business run by a father and his two sons, is one of the only caterers in the Bay Area that can still perform this tuna cutting ceremony and break down every bit of the whole tuna. With this art diminishing in the commercialized fishing industry, Michi Catering is keeping this tradition alive and well. In keeping with their standard of excellence, Michi flies in their tuna from the Tsukiji Market in Japan. This market is the standard when it comes to exceptional tuna, and fish from Tsukiji are in high demand. Michi selects the size of the tuna based on the event’s guest count, but the tuna typically range from 200 pounds to 600 pounds. As with the conventional cake cutting ceremony, the bride and groom are often invited to make the first slice. This cut serves as a symbol of their first married act of work. Then, once the fish is ceremoniously and expertly cut by a Michi chef, the guests get to enjoy the fresh fish and continue their celebration of the newlyweds!

Laura met Belall when there was a mishap in her internet and tv installation process. Belall (Billy) was the kind and gracious representative who fixed the whole situation (on New Year’s Eve, no less), and Laura’s friend urged her to invite the cute cable guy to their New Year’s party. Billy proposed to Laura on her birthday, following a day of pampering that included massages and a manicure and pedicure for Laura. He told Laura that they were eating dinner at a steakhouse, so she went home to get ready and then met Billy at his house. Billy concocted a story about his niece baking a cake for Laura and wanting to surprise her, so she entered the home with her eyes closed. After running late for dinner to be followed by a Jason Aldean concert with friends, Kristin’s friends decided to switch dinner plans to a restaurant closer to the concert venue. As they were heading out, Kristin locked eyes with Chris, who was there with a friend. Once in the parking lot, Kristin asked her friends if they had seen that guy and if she should go back and give him her number. Serendipitously, Chris came running out of the restaurant to get Kristin’s number! Their first date was four days later, and they have been inseparable ever since.

She figured their upcoming trip to London and Paris would be the perfect time, so before the plane took off, she called her dad and tried to find out if Damoon had asked for his blessing yet. Knowing Sahar as well as he did, Damoon knew to wait until after her plane was in the sky to call her dad and ask for her hand. Damoon met her in Europe, and after affixing their lock onto a bridge in Paris, Damoon led Sahar to a private spot and asked her to marry him.

Jennifer and Caleb were dating long distance when they got engaged. Jennifer was in Phoenix, and Caleb flew in for a Sunday halfmarathon that he was running. When Jennifer arrived at work on Friday though, she found flowers at her desk and a note from Caleb that read: “Dress nice, don’t be late, and follow the red-petaled road.” A chauffer picked Jennifer up from her apartment and dropped her off at the Boulders Resort. She saw the path of rose petals and followed it up to a boulder called Promise Rock. Caleb proposed at the boulder, and Jennifer’s best friends jumped out from the area where they were secretly taking pictures! Later that evening, an engagement party was thrown for them!

Jennifer and Nate decided to write down memories from their first year of dating and store them in a memory jar. They planned to open it at the end of the year, but the holidays got hectic and they didn’t get much time alone together. They decided to remedy that with a quick trip to Austin for the night and sat together in the hotel taking turns reading out the memoires they had shared and written down. After spending some time reminiscing, Nate handed Jennifer a card, and she was confused, thinking they were done with all the notes. The card said, “One more thing...” and Jennifer looked up to find Nate on bended knee, holding her ring.

Jennifer thought he was really cute, and coworkers at a conference ditched Nate and he didn’t want to go to an after-party by himself. When he was ready to propose, Zi planned a trip for the two of them from Chicago to San Diego, with scenic stops along the way. He attempted to propose at a few different locations, including during sunrise at Death Valley, but he ultimately proposed at Coronado Beach at sunset.
