It all began when I was 15. I picked up my dad’s film camera and my love affair with photography and capturing the beauty in the world around me began. I studied art and graphic design at Mount St. Mary’s University in Los Angeles and then I went to NYU to do a foreign language studies program. I had no idea that this was where I would find my inspiration. But that’s New York, a visually stirring glimpse of global diversity that spurred me to travel and take pictures. Whereas New York was my catalyst, Paris became my provocateur. It was there I learned the art of focusing on individual stories through my photography. After a nice long stint of traveling in Europe, I knew it was finally time to come home and work in Los Angeles to pursue my dream. I decided to take the plunge and start my own photography business, The Argus Image, where I've found a passion for shooting weddings. Each couple has such a unique story of who they are individually, and how they came together. I love to capture that narrative and delivering it visually so it can be enjoyed over and over again.
Erin is a professional wedding and portrait photographer from Los Angeles whose greatest photographic hope is to use art as a way to celebrate life and make people happy. She is the proud owner of her own business and has shot commercially both in the US and more recently internationally, while her work has been published both in print and online in the United States. Her first artistic passions were painting and drawing, but she fell in love with photography when she picked up her dad’s old film camera in high school. She has been shooting ever since. She has a degree in Fine Art and has studied at UCLA, Art Center, Otis College of Art and Design, and Santa Monica College. Other things that make Erin happy include: hula dancing, video games, good wine, people who are not afraid to be goofy with her, Dodger games with her Dad, and Almond Joys.
Alyssa views the world in a most unique and beautiful way. She is short on words and quick with her wit, but her eye opens an expanse of beauty where even the subject doesn’t realize its depth of life and character. Somehow, she suspends a moment, even a feeling in time and creates an image that is not just rich in its visual statement but rich in vibrant emotion. Alyssa’s work inspires so much admiration and joy that once viewed, you carry it with you — that perspective, and it becomes that by which all other images are measured and appreciated. Her inner light and faith wordlessly bring a soft and personal touch to every moment she captures. That joy she creates is returned to her in her work because she knows and understands that moment in time is an eternity to you. Alyssa’s keen and yet natural approach to pictures encourages a relaxed and candid atmosphere that even in portraiture conveys an unprecedented honesty to every frame.
Sadi is a hopeless romantic at heart, and that romance has blossomed into a love affair with photography. You can feel in her images the emotion of every moment captured. Her focus throughout the day is to document every last detail, combining both posed and candid moments for a complete memento of the day. Brides and grooms are always taken aback at the feelings captured in her still imagery. She maintains a specialized company geared towards providing high end whimsical wedding photography and videography. How do you know…he’s the one? You may have been asked this question by your parents, your friends, even yourself. The answer isn’t always perfectly clear; he may or may not be ‘ideal’ on paper; you may have known him for only two months or perhaps you’ve been hanging in there a good five years; he may be a cowboy while you were visualizing a business man. The so-called ‘signs’ aren’t always there, but somehow, you just know. At Ceremony, we feel the same way about our Great List of wedding professionals that we recommend and invite to join our family of advertising partners. We take this vendor collective very seriously, which is why we don’t put arbitrary consideration requirements in an antiquated form. We don’t have a scholastic checklist to help us come up with an ‘A’ grade. We don’t even have a job application type form to fill out. You see, when it comes to choosing our Great List of recommended professionals, we believe there is no specific formula for choosing who we invite to join our family. Probably not unlike you, we take a look-see at Facebook, we inquire with their friends and colleagues and, most importantly, we get to know them by social networking the old-fashioned way (in person). In the end, we go with our gut. We just…know. You will find that some of these recommended vendors have refined their businesses over the past twenty years, while others bring fresh ideas after having recently started their own businesses. Many of our recommended venues are on the AAA Five-Diamond Resort list; others include charming private estates and everything in between. Additionally, the esteemed planners on the following pages each approach weddings in their own unique way, and we have interviewed each of them in order to give you an up close and personal look at their backgrounds, their ideas, and their wedding ingenuity. The demand for our delicious, fresh food grew as customers asked for it to be served at their business and social events, so Celebrations by NYFC was born. Ultimately, NYFC was invited to manage two exclusive coastal venues, La Venta Inn in Palos Verdes Estates and Verandas Beach House, Manhattan Beach. In 2005, Chefs with Altitude was created, which caters exclusively to the private jets of celebrities, professional sports teams and dignitaries. The NYFC team continually adapts to the latest trends in cuisine, beverages, service, and event design. “The catering and event production industry never gets old,” claims Jim Wharton, NYFC Managing Partner. “There’s always something new and exciting for our team to learn and incorporate into our events.” OUR FOOD PHILOSOPHY: We always make it fresh and made to order, utilizing the freshest ingredients and sourcing locally as much as possible. We design menus to favor the clients’ tastes, not ours. Our menus are used to start the discussion with our clients, they aren’t meant to limit the offerings. WHAT IS THE BEST APPROACH TO SERVING FOOD FOR SPECIALTY DIETS? We usually have an assigned server and one assigned chef handle the plates to eliminate any confusion or the specialty diet plates being confused with the regular plates. We also like to know the guests’ names and where they are seated. Special menu guest requests receive individual attention.

HOW CAN COUPLES USE FOOD TO WOW THEIR GUESTS AND MAKE THEM FEEL SPECIAL? Interactive food stations are great for entertaining guests, oyster shucking or guacamole made onsite are great examples. Guests can watch the food being prepared while engaging with the chefs or other guests. In addition, interactive stations make guests feel special by creating dishes with the ingredients that they pick and choose like a pasta or omelet station. OUR SPECIALTY IS: Catering to you. Every wedding menu is created in collaboration with the utmost consideration of the tastes, styles, and special requests of our couples. No two menus are ever alike – although we do feature popular dishes that many couples enjoy! NYFC menus feature an eclectic mix of traditional favorites fused with current trends. We are also proud of our professional service team. We offer exquisitely served, plated meals to beautiful yet casual buffets. Some venues offer no kitchen or simply warming capabilities. Sometimes complete “kitchen builds” are required. NYFC can build a kitchen anywhere and create delicious meals. This is where we shine. For those who want to surprise their partner with something extra special, and a little bit sexy, a boudoir photo shoot is the perfect present. Jenny Taylor, owner of Jenny Taylor Boudoir Photography, a popular photography company with studios in Chicago and Los Angeles, has compiled a list of do’s and don’ts for any bride-to-be considering a boudoir photo shoot: DO take the time to do your research. It’s important to find a photographer that not only has a solid reputation, but with whom you feel comfortable. Before booking your session, read through testimonials and online reviews of clients they’ve previously worked with. Ask to see examples of their work and schedule a phone call with them to get a concrete feel for their professionalism and personality, as well as if you feel comfortable in their setting; we don't recommend showing up to someone’s personal home or basement. DON’T spray tan. Tan skin actually counteracts the lighting used for boudoir photos, yielding a less-than-desirable look. Don’t use any self-tanning products at least five days before your shoot. DO steer clear of alcohol the day of your session. Having a few cocktails before you step in front of the camera might seem like a good idea, but don’t do it. Not only can alcohol make your belly bloat and your skin flush, but having it in your system will alter your entire experience. For these reasons, Jenny Taylor says: “We don’t allow any alcohol on set.” DON’T feel like you have to wear lingerie. “One of the biggest misconceptions about boudoir photography is that wearing super-sexy lingerie is a requirement,” says Taylor. While many of her clients do wear teddies, bra & panty sets or negligées, others opt for more playful looks, like a jersey from their guy’s favorite sports team, or even a gorgeous dress. DO put some thought into props. The addition of something simple and romantic like a red rose or bridal veil can make a big impact on camera. DO remember that this experience is as much for you as it is for your groom. Women spend lots of time (and, in some cases, big bucks) on amped-up fitness and beauty routines leading up to their nuptials. “Right before her wedding day is the perfect time for a bride to take a moment and celebrate herself with a boudoir photo shoot,” says Taylor. “Not only are most brides looking and feeling their best in the weeks leading up to their wedding, but the excitement and happiness they’re feeling during that time really shows through in photos.” DO remember to groom yourself pre-shoot. Any bikini or body waxing should be done a week ahead of time. A manicure and/or pedicure can be done the day before.

Lyman originally told Kristen that he arranged for a private tour of a vineyard. Since they both love cats, Eric planned on incorporating their cat into their proposal. Eric trained their cat, Pepper, to bring the ring to Paula once she arrived home to a room decorated in flowers and candles. The training was successful for over a week - until the day of the proposal. On the proposal day, Pepper decided not to cooperate. Eric found himself chasing the cat around for the ring while Paula was standing in the middle of rose petals, but in the end, the proposal happened and she said yes.

Coincidently, Paula and Eric were in the same fourth grade class, and when looking back, found themselves only two people away from each other in their fifth grade class photo. Yet, they didn’t remember each other. It took Paula moving away for middle school and ten years until they met again.

Joseph knew Rachel loved donuts, so he decided to have one of the shops write out the proposal in doughnut letter shapes, saying: “Will You Marry Me?” He even wrapped the gift as a present to throw her off. After opening a few presents, Rachel chose the box of donuts and initially found herself confused because she thought it said “Happy Birthday.” Once she realized it was a proposal, not just a birthday gift, Joseph was there on one knee with the ring in hand.

The idea of getting married at the zoo came when a television show mentioned a couple getting married at a zoo. Joseph remarked off-handedly that that was an interesting idea, but Rachel was immediately interested. Between Rachel’s childhood sentimental value of growing up near the zoo, their shared love of animals, the unique benefit of an animal presentation during cocktail hour, and contributing to the animal conservation, it was an ideal location.
