Sport News Cross Country

Becky Straw and Hannah Trow represented Hereford and Worcestershire in the English Schools’ Cross Country Championships. Hannah ran well against girls in an older age group but pride of place went to Becky who finished 6th and was subsequently selected to run for England at the Home Nations Championships in Ireland.

Boys Win National Medley Swimming Relay

The Bromsgrove School boys’ medley relay team swam their way to a close victory at the Bath and Otter Swimming Relays. Both the boys and girls swimming squads participated in swimming relays at Crystal Palace and the performance of the day was awarded to the boys’ medley team consisting of Dan Ruckwood, Jack Slattery, Jan Carius and Stefan Squire who qualified for the final as the second fastest team in the heats but in the final shaved a crucial two seconds from their time to be crowned champions.

Netball National Finals Mercian League Champions

Bromsgrove School Football 1st XI topped off an undefeated season as champions of the Mercian North Football League. An exciting 2-2 draw with Welbeck was enough to keep Bromsgrove top of the league and become league champions for the first time in the School’s history.

Tony Windo

Tony Windo has been appointed as Director of Rugby. Tony’s role will see him developing links with local clubs and schools, especially Worcester Warriors and promoting Bromsgrove as a centre of excellence for youngsters keen to further their skills and participation at all levels of rugby. Tony’s most recent role at Warriors was as Skills Development and Scrum Coach, a position that saw him work closely with all the club’s front row forwards in both the Warriors and Academy squads.

The U16 girls’ netball team defended the title they won last year. Playing brilliantly across the court with sweeping end to end movement they won the admiration of many, and in the semi-final they comfortably eased past Truro School 148. In the final they faced Hulme, a team they had beaten by one point in the semi-finals in 2009. It was the tensest of National Finals and at the end scores were level. In a two minute each way extra time Hulme won 16-15.

Congratulations: In Hockey;

Zachary Morris, James Ross, Thomas Stokes have all been selected for the Midlands’ Regional Hockey Team; Rachel Clare played Goalkeeper for the Wales U16 team against Scotland; Ellen Lockhart has been selected to represent England against Germany in July.

In Rugby;

Hugh McBride, Damon Poole and Hugh Lockhart have been selected to play for the England U18 squad.

In Athletics;

Lauren Brown, is now ranked 5th in the UK after running 12 seconds dead at Midland Premier Young Athletes competition in June.

In Badminton;

Jack Thornley has secured a place in the U13 Warwickshire County Badminton Squad.
