Building Great Futures Together

Opening Opportunity Boys & Girls Clubs have been transforming the lives of young people in the Salt Lake Valley for the past 50 years by providing quality afterschool programs in safe, fun, supportive environments. In 2015, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake and South Valley united as one organization dedicated to one great mission: Providing kids with safe places to learn and grow.

A positive Club experience has a profound influence on creating better futures for our youth as they grow towards adulthood. Boys & Girls Clubs link home, schools, and caring adults to create a unique environment that cannot be replicated. Our professionally trained staff is fiercely passionate and enthusiastic about empowering youth to be better adults. Our Clubs provide quality afterschool programs that give kids rich learning experiences that narrow opportunity gaps and put youth on a path toward a great future.

The Kids Who Need Us Most In Utah, nearly 100,000 youth are left unsupervised in afterschool hours and during summer and winter breaks. This time alone is when youth are at the greatest risk to experiment with drugs or alcohol, fall into gang activity, or become victims of or involved in violent crime. In short, too many of our youth are not on a path towards successful outcomes. This is especially true for the kids we serve, who represent some of the most disadvantaged and underserved youth in the state.

Meeting the Need Our vision is that a Club is within reach of all kids who need our services in the Greater Salt Lake area. For every child enrolled in an afterschool program, approximately two more children would be enrolled if a program were available to them.* *Aferschool Alliance, “America After 3PM” October 2014

Capitol West Club: Beyond its Capacity

• With annual membership of more than • 700, the Club has been operating over capacity for a decade • • The Club provides a safe place for youth living in local shelters and • nearby motels • The outdated Club is less than half the size of a typical Club with no room for growth

Murray Club:

Community Demand is High Murray Club serves 150 youth ages 7-12 every day A long waiting list exists for youth in need of afterschool care More than 100 youth were turned away from summer registration in 2016

Operating over capacity adversely affects the quality of programming and the safety of staff and youth.

A Place to Be By expanding these two clubs, you can help create a safe place for kids to grow into better adults. Here, kids will learn and explore new worlds, be safe, develop positive relationships, and have the tools and guidance they need. Your support will help us build great futures together.
