ANNUAL REVIEW

2020-2021

LETTER FROM THE CHAIR Pat Seng, Cushman & Wakefield

I have sincerely appreciated the opportunity to serve as the Board Chair for BOMA Greater Minneapolis. BOMA members have some of the best designed, built, and operated real estate in any city in the country. This past year proved that point time and time again. We faithfully executed our duties during a pandemic, social discord, and an economic meltdown. I strongly believe that BOMA plays an active role in that success. I don't want to attempt to prove BOMA's collective worth with specific bullet points on advocacy, education, and networking. The numbers and stats are all impressive, but you have seen them many times before. What I would like to offer are a few thoughts on one event that BOMA held this year that really symbolized what we are all about. As the 2020 challenges played out, yet another "un-fun" decision point came upon us. Best of BOMA Gala 2021 or not? The Gala certainly falls within our mission of advocacy, education, and networking, but is it appropriate during the current environment? Could we get sponsors? Will anyone sign up for the TOBY competition? A virtual gala...really?! The collective answer was a rather nervous 'yes'. After we picked Deb Kolar, Steve Herron, and Anna Scheetz up off the floor, it was time to get sponsors for an event that has been completely changed to a rather undefined format and was untested. No problem! What was so impressive was how a group of volunteers and the BOMA staff managed to totally recreate a complex event, with no road map in about 90 days. A true testament to creativity and resiliency. I received many comments about enjoying the event and the "normalcy" that it represented. Even more noteworthy was how many mentioned that the event reminded them of how much they really miss in-person events and the camaraderie that those events provide. So, thank you for allowing me to be a member of a creative and resilient group that enjoys getting together once in a while to support each other and to celebrate some of life's little successes. Here's to 2021. You are certainly in good hands with Ms. Kolar.
