Why attend a bridal show? lanning a wedding can be one P of the most stressful events in your life. But it doesn’t need

to be! I star ted GonnaGetWed. com and the GonnaGetWed Bridal Showcases to help relieve stress from Brides! Attending a bridal show and creating a profile on GonnaGetWed.com can help ever y bride save time, meet with wedding industr y exper ts, get ideas, and see the latest wedding trends and fashions. These tips will help you get the most out of the GonnaGetWed Bridal Show.

Pre-register for the Show

Save time by registering before the show. Our lines are long, and pre-registration only takes a few minutes and will save you time in the check-in line. You still need to check into the show to get door prize registrations. Bring your Friends & Family

Bringing your friends and family to the bridal show will help them feel involved and also give you a head-star t on gathering help for your wedding preparations. Many brides bring their maids-ofhonor and their bridesmaids to help them with decisions. Many others will bring their mothers or soon to be mothers-in-law especially since they may be the ones paying for it all. Finally, don’t forget the GROOM! He can register for prizes, too, and should get involved early in the planning. Bring Contact Return Labels

Wedding vendors will often have drawings for prizes at their 4

booths throughout the show. You will save a ton of time and energy by bringing return labels. We recommend including the following info: your name, address, phone number, wedding date, wedding city and email address. Take Notes

Or bring your tablet. Just be sure to take notes of vendors you talked to and tr y to rate them or keep some sor t of record of who you liked best. You can also keep notes on ideas, thoughts, and dates of appointments made that day with vendors. Take Pictures

Many exhibitors have neat displays and you may get some new ideas. Be sure to get permission from the exhibitor before you take photos. It is also fun to get photos of you and your friends and family attending the show for your wedding album. Set a Budget

Setting your wedding budget and discussing who will be covering the different costs will help you focus on what to look for at the show. Come prepared with lists of questions to help determine if a vendor is right for you and also fits into your budget. Bring your Checkbook

Many wedding vendors will offer a special discount during the show. Bridal shows draw in hundreds of brides and many with the same wedding date.

Some dates fill up quickly so being able to place a deposit with a vendor you find that you want to book will allow you to secure those professionals. Prepare

Bring your questions for the different industr y professionals. Tr y to review the vendors ahead of time that will be at the show. This will allow you to seek out and spend time talking to those you are really interested in. Register for Prizes

The GonnaGetWed bridal shows are known for offering the best prizes! These are given away throughout the day with bigger grand prize drawings at the end. Ever y bride and Ever y groom can register so attend the show together to double your chances. Wear Comfy Shoes

The bridal show is generally 4 hours long so making sure your feet don’t hur t so you can focus on the tasks at hand is impor tant. So wear comfy shoes! Stay All Day

Come early and leave late. This will allow you to visit all the vendors and find ever ything you need. After all, if you tried to go and visit each of the exhibitor’s locations it would take weeks! So take advantage of having them all in one place for the day. ~ Kari Black, Founder GonnaGetWed.com

Trends

2015 Trends Trends come and go, but one the thing remains consistent from year to year: your wedding is about you, your groom and your life together! Having fun and including some of the amazing things about your life is now one of the hottest wedding trends brides are focused on tailoring their weddings around their personalities or specific interests.

All in the Dress Intricate detail on the top half, especially the back of the dress, with the rest of the gown being very simple and elegant is an admired 2015 wedding dress trend. Lots of rhinestone and beading detail is being seen on the back of dresses creating that personalized and memorable feeling that is desired on the big dayperfect for the vintage or elegant bride.

Love Harry Potter books? What about super heros?

A new trend that is making its way from the runways is the crop top wedding dress with the high-waisted full bottom skirt. Modern-edgy or boho brides are most likely to wear this style and do it in stunning fashion.

Who doesn’t, right? Why not include those elements into your photos or invitations? Highlighting tailored accents highlighting who you are as through personalized accents is a trend that only you can really embrace! -Syndey bartunek, GonnaGetWEd.com

Trending Colors Wedding colors that keep popping up in 2015 are shades of cool blues and greens. In particular, dusty blue and mint green, while not paired together, are two colors that are popular as accent colors throughout wedding schemes from bridesmaids’ dresses to accent leafs in bouquets. Gold accents are trendy for the vintage bride as well as sweeping floral patterns in the skirt of the gown.

Trends

Wedding Party Groom and Groomsmen attire is shifting towards shades of gray rather than traditional black. Gray or even khaki is very popular paired with a more laid back approach which includes suspenders and bow ties rather than ties and vests. When it comes to bridesmaids, it is trendy to allow the bridesmaids to choose the style of their dress as long as it stays in the same color scheme. This is one example where brides enjoy the added personality and flare each bridesmaid can show through unique dress choice.

Lock of Love Three main looks are trending in 2015 when it comes to hairstyles. Up-dos are popular, either as a loose, wispy bun to the side or as a sleek elegant bun – also known as topknots. Both styles are a glamorous way that brides are drawing attention to not only their face but the beautiful beaded details on their dresses. Another popular option for brides is to wear their hair down loose. Bring a photo of your dress along to your hair style consultation appointment – your neckline, dress and jewelry will all contribute to the perfect hairstyle for you wedding.

Wedding Tips! Things to have in mind as the big day approaches! u Pick your date wisely Choosing a day other than Saturday may be less expensive, but it may also require for your guests and wedding par ty to take more time off of work. Depending on the time of year, that may make it challenging for out-of-town guests to attend. Choose your date wisely!

u Don’t make guests wait You shouldn't have more than 2 hours between ceremony and reception. Plan something fun like a cocktail hour, a tour of downtown, or a wedding scavenger hunt for guests before the reception.

u Think the menu through Provide alternatives for people who have allergies, dietar y restrictions, or vegan/vegetarians. Having a kids menu is also a good idea!

u Think about the weather and

plan accordingly

You can look through the last 50 years of the farmers’ almanac tracking weather trends, but you never know what the weather will be like on your wedding day. If you are getting married outside, it could be hot, it could be cold, it could rain. Face it – it could snow! Make sure you have a back-up plan and that your wedding theme corresponds.

u Keep your guests budgets in

mind when registering

You and your groom are star ting out and you probably need ever ything to furnish this new life. But your registr y should have more than 1000 thread Egyptian Cotton Sheets, Cr ystal glassware, and big screen TVs. Most likely, your friends and family have lives of their own they have to pay

10

for and many of them may be traveling to your wedding. Your gift registr y should have a variety of price points. Sure, your co-workers may team up to buy you something special. But your retired aunt and uncle who still have your cousin living in their basement may need to buy you something a little less expensive – ever yone needs new towels!

u To drink or not to drink Whether you like to par ty or not, having a cash bar isn’t ver y inviting to your guest. Having ever yone getting tanked at an open bar isn’t great either. Tr y to find an option that will work, like offering a few drink tickets to people or offering free beer and wine. There is a way to find the happy medium between no drinks and free drinks.

u Anticipate the needs of your guests Leave some extra parking spaces toward the front both at the ceremony and the reception for elderly guests. Make sure you have some extra comfor table chairs for people to sit on if need be.

u Greet each guest personally

The trend has been to greet ever yone at the wedding either in a receiving line at the back of the ceremony location or to greet them as they are exiting their seats. Whichever way you choose to greet your guest, make sure you DO IT. They traveled here, they bought you a gift, they came for your special day – Say “Hello” & “Thank you”!

u Feed the Photographer/DJ/Band etc. They work hard. Feed them. Enough said.

u It is your day. Enjoy it and don't forget to have fun!

WEDDING PLANNING & THE INTERNET CREATING THE CONCEPT PLAN THE WEDDING & THE MARRIAGE WEDDING ETIQUETTE WEDDING BUDGET WORKSHEETS

e M g a T

Wedding Planning And The Internet T

he modern bride can have wedding planning at her finger tips! Every detail of your wedding can travel with you everywhere you go – online! There are a lot of online resources available to help organize your thoughts, attach pictures, write documents, create checklists and stay on top of ALL of the wedding details. Some sites are better than others! GonnaGetWed.com – Okay, we are a bit partial, but we have created GonnaGetWed.com for this exact purpose! There are a lot of details to keep track of and there are a lot of national websites you can use to organize. But the national websites don’t connect you with the local vendors you will need to work with. GonnaGetWed.com is your one-stop for wedding planning and connecting with the photographers, reception sites, florist and more right next door. Pinterest – Who doesn’t love Pinterest?! Pinterest is a wonderful resource to see new trends, unique ideas, and traditional treasures. One of the best features of Pinterest is that you can create your own boards and pin different images to that board, or category. You can create a board called Flowers and as you search for flower arrangements online, you can pin your favorite pictures to that board. The challenge of Pinterest is that many times, the DIY projects you think will save you money don’t always work out the way you want. They either end up being more expensive or are a lot harder and don’t turn out as well. Trello – Trello is a free online collaboration site that has nothing to do with weddings. But it is all about planning and collaborating with other people! It is free, although you can

12

upgrade to paid versions, if you need. You can create checklists, assign tasks, move items from “To-Do”, to “Doing”, to “Done.” For tasks that require Due Dates, you can export the calendar and import them into your email calendar to help stay on task! Planning a wedding is a big task – a really big task! Using a wedding planner (like the VOW) is a great way to stay on track. The internet can help you search for and find great ideas, but those “great ideas” may not be right for you or your budget. Connecting with local talent who can help you is going to be the best thing. Recent Sioux Falls bride Kristin Cooke’s advice for a great wedding is “having competent people helping you out.” Connect with local providers – connect with businesses you can rely on – that is truly the key to a seamless wedding day. Creating the concept how to pick the perfect theme for your wedding

Research. P

Take advantage of all types of online planning tools to help you figure out the tone for your wedding. Start pulling ideas from Pinterest, online wedding magazines, and blogs. This is a great way to get the ball rolling. By far it is the easiest way to find tons of ideas on how to personalize your wedding from real brides from all over the country. Also, don’t be afraid to find other ideas elsewhere besides the Internet. Check out local venues, garden centers, and wedding shows to find ideas. Collecting these ideas is the first step in creating a theme that is truly personal to you.

Inspiration P

Start gathering certain items that are near and dear to you. They can be anything! Maybe it’s a handbag with intricate beading or a photo of an exotic location; just make sure they are things you love. Once you have selected a few items start figuring out what exactly it is you love about those items. Are they all similar colors? Do they all have a bold pattern? Maybe they are all full of embellishments and intricate details. Once you have figured out the common factors you can use that as a starting point for creating your concept. This will help set the tone for your wedding whether it be bold, bright, soft, or modern. Also don’t be afraid to think outside the box. If you find an item you love that is not traditionally used in wedding décor think of ideas on how you could incorporate it into your day. That idea could become the statement piece of your wedding and create a truly original concept.

Color P

What colors are you drawn to on an everyday basis? A great starting point is taking a look at the colors you surround yourself with. Take a look at your closet and your home décor. Once you have found a color you like pick a hue that compliments it as an accent color. This can be anything from the opposite color on the color wheel to a darker or lighter shade of the original hue you selected. This pallet will then become the color scheme you use throughout your wedding. Make sure to consider your color selections in the season you will be getting married. Also consider colors that may compliment blooms or foliage that are in season for your wedding.

Edit P

Once you have found all of these elements its time to solidify your theme. Come up with a word or phrase to describe your wedding from all of the items you have selected. Keep it short and sweet. This will help you make sure you stick to your original concept when selecting certain items for the big day.

Create P Now that you have your color pallet and a concept it’s time to put it all together into a visual story of what you visualize for your day. Gather all your magazine clippings, photos, color swatches, and other items and create a small storyboard or scrapbook. Creating this will allow you to show a visual representation of what your vision is to family, friends, and most important of all your vendors. Make sure to make it small enough that it can easily be taken with you when selecting items such as bridesmaid dresses and your cake for the big day. The most important thing to remember through this process is no idea is too corky or crazy. Make sure it is what you want and that it is a true reflection of you and your groom as a couple. The more personal you make it, the more special the day becomes. If you remember those few things you will have created a wedding your guests will never forget. - Lucy Henglefelt, Redefined Design & Events

Plan the Ceremony & the marriage

“ I now pronounce you husband and wife…”

T

his announcement marks the end of the marriage ceremony and the beginning of married life. Without a doubt, one of the most important things to realize is that marriage is a covenant relationship in which God is a part of the union. He created man and woman and instituted the marriage union. God no longer sees you as two individuals, He sees you as one with two individual personalities.

“A man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joinedto his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” (Ephesians 5:31) One of the most important strengths in your marriage will be cultivating open and strong communication. The most powerful force on earth is a husband and wife who understand each other, and are in agreement concerning their home, life, and future plans together. Jesus said, “If two of you agree on earth concerning anything you ask, it will be done for you by My Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 18:19). Always remember that in making decisions, you will be each other’s best counsel. Every decision will affect you both, so agreement is vital. The goal in your marriage relationship is to move into a level of conversation where you are open to share about anything and everything. At this level there are no areas that you have to hide or cover up, no areas where you are limited, no touchy subjects you can’t talk about. In other words, there is nothing hidden and you can enjoy transparency and openness. You can avoid many challenges in your marriage if you learn to listen, and give opportunity for both parties to speak. Communication breaks down when one is afraid that what they have to say will be rejected or put down, or maybe they will be embarrassed or criticized. Don’t let that be a barrier in your relationship. Sometimes one spouse won’t talk, because anything they say they feel put down. Learn to break through these fears and communicate with openness and willingness to listen. Set your goals on agreement, loving understanding, and be willing to compromise. One of your greatest joys in your relationship will be deep, intimate, heart to heart talks on a daily basis. So set aside time regularly whether over coffee in the morning, during lunch or in the evening on the deck. Identify some place and time where you can open up and share freely together. It will strengthen every other area of your life, home, and family you are building together. I’d like to suggest one book that will help start you off on the right foot: “His Needs, Her Needs” by Willard Harley. May your marriage reflect the love and kindness of God! - Vicky & Michael Bang, Faith Family Church

Who pays for what?

Wedding P

lanning a wedding can be both stressful and expensive. Here is a list of who traditionally pays for what items in the wedding:

Bride’s Family

• Engagement Party (optional) • Stationary – Save-the-dates, Invitations, etc. • Bridal Consultant • Wedding Gown/Accessories • Flowers for Ceremony & Reception • Bridesmaid’s Bouquets • Reception • Music • Photography • Videography • Ceremony • Transportation to Reception • Family’s Wedding Attire (Mother of the Bride dress, Father of the Bride’s suit or Tux, etc.)

Etiquette

Bride

• Grooms Ring • Wedding gift for Groom • Bridesmaid’s luncheon • Gifts for Bridesmaids

Groom’s Family

• Rehearsal Dinner • Engagement Party (optional) • Wedding Attire

Groom

• Bride’s Rings • Marriage License • Officiants Fee • Grooms formalwear • Brides Bouquet, Boutineers for family • Gifts for groomsmen • Gift for the bride • Gift for parents • Honeymoon • Transportation to the honeymoon

Attendants

• Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties • Gifts for the Bride and Groom • Their own wedding attire (i.e. suit/ tux rental & dresses, shoes, etc.) • Their own transportation to the wedding (airfare, etc.) Of course, remember this is just a guideline, not a rule! Every wedding is different, every family is different and everyone has a different situation, so each bride and groom will have to work out the details of who pays for what themselves. In the last few years it has been in fashion for the couple to pay for everything and the families help with what they can, the key is always a budget! So start yours today, and happy planning! -Emily Sorenson, GonnaGetWed.com

Your Wedding Budget Figuring out how much to spend on your wedding can be tough – there are a lot of things to consider! How many guests? What type of venue for the reception? A destination wedding or a wedding down the street? Outdoor or indoor? Are you going to pay for it all yourself or are your parents going to help? Every wedding is different and every budget should be different. Here is a little guide to help you determine approximately how much you should be spending on each area of your wedding.

45% 8% 10% 8% 10% 2% 2% 2% 2% 2% 9%

• Establish a solid budget • Determine the type of wedding you would like • Look for venues • Everything else can fall in line

Reception Dress/Accesories Photography Flowers Ceremony/Music Invitations/Stationery

Wedding rings Gifts Wedding cake Hair/Make-up/Nails Miscehllenous

Be an educated consumer! Look for deals. Booking a venue during their off season may yield in a discounted rate. Renting decorations may be more affordable than buying. Explore your options – there is always another option. Look at them and choose what is best for you and your groom. The most important thing to think about when planning a budget is the big picture! Yes – this is the most important day of your life, but the point to getting married is to build a life with your spouse. Starting out $20,000 in debt isn’t the best idea. Nor is spending your parent’s retirement savings! Maybe your ideal wedding is a small personal affair with close friends and family. Or maybe you will invite everyone who follows you on Pinterest! Decide what type of wedding you will have before you start making purchases and paying deposits. Remember, this is his wedding also. Make sure you are planning something you both will really love.

Vendor Information QUESTIONS TO ASK ALL VENDORS YOU HIRE... u Do you have liability insurance? u Is there a deposit due and when? u When is the balance due? u What is the cancellation policy? u Do you accept credit cards? uHow do you handle unforeseen issues? u Do you have a backup plan if something goes wrong on our wedding day?

GENERAL VENDOR HIRING HINTS u Ask friends and family to recommend service providers and venues that were satisfactory. u Talk to your friends who were recently married. They are an excellent source of knowledge. u The first question to ask potential service providers: Do you have my date open? This will save

you time and energy if they do not. u Meet with several vendors in each category before you hire any particular one, even if you really loved the first one you met. u Be sure to conduct an interview with a potential vendor, regardless if you have several great referrals for him or her.Your personalities might clash, indicating a wrong fit for you. u Ask for a tour, samples, demos, previews, pictures and referrals from all your vendors before they are hired. Don’t just take their word for it. u Once you find a vendor you want… don’t wait, book them!

GENERAL CONTRACT GUIDELINES u Look over the entire contract. If you don’t understand something, ask them! If you have an

attorney, you may want them to review the larger contracts. u Make sure your contracts all have the date, time, location and a detailed description of all services and items to be provided by the vendor. u Make sure the contract includes ALL fees and how they apply: late fees, overtime charges, gratuities, open-ended charges, etc. Also make sure they include times, if time sensitive, and try to put a cap on prices if they could get out of control. u Contracts must stipulate the deposit amount, due date and all payments and amounts due. u Do not sign if you do not agree with any part of the contract. Instead, negotiate the details and have a new contract drafted that you feel comfortable signing. u Make sure you get a copy of the contract before you leave with both signatures and the date singed.

Questions to Ask! Questions for Wedding Consultant/Planner u Do you have a portfolio with photos of

weddings you’ve planned? u Do you have a business license? u How long have you been in business? u Are you certified? By what association? u What is your fee? Do you charge hourly, a flat fee or a percentage of the total wedding budget? u If the fee is hourly or based on a percentage, are you willing to put a cap on the total fee? u Can we hire you to plan the entire event? u Can we hire you to help with just some of the planning? u Can we hire you to help on the wedding day only? u What details do you handle? u What details won’t you handle? u How many meetings should we plan to have? u Can we conduct business by phone, fax or e-mail? u If site has been selected: Do you know the catering manager/events planner at our site? u Do you have vendors you’ve worked with in the past? u Are there a few you like for each service or just one vendor for each? u Do these service providers offer your clients discounts?

28

u Do these service providers give you a personal financial incentive to work with them, aside from any discount that we may receive? u What would the process be for selecting and hiring vendors for our wedding? u Do you like to take complete control or do you welcome our ideas and participation?

u Will you be on hand the day of the wedding? u How many other events will you be organizing that day? u How many people on your staff will be at the wedding? u How long has your staff worked with you? u How will you (and your staff) be dressed? u Do you have liability insurance? u How does the payment schedule work? u What is your cancellation policy? u Do you have references? If hiring consultant to be at wedding: u What happens if you are ill on our wedding day? u Do you require meals? u Will you travel if necessary? u Will there be additional expenses for parking and travel?

Styled Makeup for your wedding day

Once you know what bridal style you gravitate most towards, picking your wedding day make-up will be an easy task. The modern bride lives to make an impression, and her wedding day style is no exception. Modern brides, go for a high impact eye shadow, choosing one color for your orbital bone and lid, and a contrasting color for your crease. Balance out this look with a neutral lip color. The vintage bride embodies nostalgia like no other. She can effortlessly channel Marilyn Monroe and her iconic red lip. Choose this huge wisely. For brides with cool undertones, look for berries and crimsons. For brides with warm undertones, find rouge with an orange tint. But don’t forget about your cheeks! Blushed dimples will complete your vintage look for your wedding day. The traditional bride’s look is centered on her classic beauty. Accent your features naturally with gold or champagne colored eye shadow and a soft pink lip. Choose a lip liner just one shade darker than your lipstick for contrast. Finish off your lips with a sheer gloss and give to your maid of honor for reapplication throughout the day. The elegant bride loves all things sophisticated. Her timeless make up style is made easy with a wine colored smoky eye for her big day. With a neutral base brush the claret shade on your lid and finish the look with a liquid eyeliner. On the inside corners of your eyes, tap your neutral eye shadow to brighten your eyes. No matter which style you choose for your wedding day look, remember to own it. Your confidence will make you more beautiful than the makeup on your face ever will! -Kristin Cooke GonnaGetWed.com

The

Skinny on Vitamins

Y

ou're engaged; Congratulations! You may be like all the other brides who want amazing photos of her with her life mate, after all, it's going to be posted to Facebook, it's going to hang in not only your home, but in the homes of your parents and grandparents.Yes, everyone will see if you had great hair and skin, how you fit into your wedding dress, and how relaxed (or stressed) you were during the photo shoot. You will want to look your best, but where do you start? Studies say Vitamin A (also known as retinoids) can aid in reducing wrinkles, fading brown spots, and smooth skin texture.Vitamin A is available in lotions, creams, capsules and some prescriptions. Vitamin C is similar to Vitamin A in that it also helps smooth skin and fade brown spots by inhibiting free radicals that trigger wrinkling, sagging, and other aging changes. Rather than searching

for the perfect, most likely expensive, potion or lotion, consider turning to produce instead. Pomegranate fruit contains both Vitamin A and Vitamin C and may be enjoyed as a delicious whole fruit snack. Other fresh fruit, like lemon or papaya, can be used on the skin topically straight from the grocery store too! After washing your face clean, you can actually use the flesh side of a papaya skin to apply as a peel.Yes, rub the flesh side of a papaya on clean skin (chunks and all) and let it dry before you rinse it clean with cold water for a great enzymatic peel for improved skin texture and a beautiful glow! If you are concerned about pigmentation or acne, lemon can be applied directly to clean skin. The citric acid in lemons acts as a natural bleaching component. Add 2 Tsp of lemon juice to 3 Tbsp of water and apply to affected area with

cotton pad. Allow to sit on skin for up to 30 minutes and rinse clean with cold water. You may repeat this as often as necessary. If you experience any skin irritation, you can add organic honey to mixture for a calming, hydrating effect. Regular use of pure, fresh lemon juice applied to skin can also heal acne. Simply dilute and apply to the skin the same way as discussed, leave on for up to 15 minutes, and rinse clean with cold water. Lemons are full of Vitamin C, Vitamin B, Phosphorous, and Carbohydrates. The fruit acids are amazing as a beauty enhancer, and if you regularly consume water with fresh squeezed lemons, add organic honey if you'd like for taste, you can clean you system internally and attain acne-free skin. Lemons are a beauty must! -Nicole Muilenburg RN-BAN, CHT, Biofeedback Trainer, Health Coach

rides are changing. Today’s trends are contemporary and urban, and that is why smokey eyes are such a beautiful, modern bridal look. The days when brides had to choose between two looks for their wedding are gone. Now, brides can be more adventurous and start having fun with their make up! Smokey eyes are not just a nighttime look anymore. With this universal look, it doesn’t matter what skin tone or eye color you have, there’s a smokey look for everyone. So here are a few tips to achieve the perfect smokey eye on your wedding day: 1. Prepare the lid The key to keeping eyeshadow from melting into your eyelid crease as the day goes on is to keep eyelids oil-free. To do this, start with an eyeshadow base or primer. Swipe it across the eye and let it dry before you continue to the next step.

2. Apply eyeliner If you’re going for a typical black, brown or gray smoky eye, apply liner in one of those colors above the upper lash line, drawing the line thicker in the middle of eye. If you’re opting for a jewel-toned eye, line eyes with a purple, blue or deep green eye liner. 3. Blend in color on bottom lashes For color on the bottom of your eyes, use an eyeliner pencil, because they’re easiest to smudge. Once the line is drawn, run your finger over it to smudge the line. You can also apply a bit of shadow to get full smudge effect. 4. Apply light base color Sweep a light, shimmery shadow over the lids to your brow bone. 5. Blend the darker color Be sure to keep the dark color below the crease. Using an eyeshadow brush, blend in color starting at your lash line, blending up. Make sure to blend color into the lash line so the eye liner disappears. Stop the deep color your at crease. The key here is to blend, blend, blend! 6. Double-check your work Make sure both eyes match, and blend the colors with a Q-tip if needed. 7. Top it off with mascara You’ll want to finish the look by applying a few coats of mascara so lashes are thick and dark. 34

PROTIEN builds and maintains muscles. Protein also breaks down more slowly than carbs and fat, which burns even more calories and helps you feel fuller longer.

CARBS / STARCHES are the preferred fuel source for your muscles and organs, and they come in healthy versions (vegetables, fruits, grains, and legumes), and not-so-healthy versions (cakes, cookies, soda, doughnuts, candy, and many processed foods). Healthy carbs are also crucial for burning calories, and since they break down more slowly than those not-sohealthy carbs, they keep your blood sugar and energy levels steady, and they also keep your calorie-burning furnace hot so it burns more calories!

HEALTHY FATS Healthy fats (unsaturated fats) eaten in moderation help the development and function of your eyes and brain and help prevent heart disease, stroke, depression, and arthritis. Healthy fats also help keep your energy levels steady and keep you from feeling hungry. - Contributed by CR Results 38

• You’ll feel better and have more energy.

Peppers, celery, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes – cut up and placed in zip-lock bags so they are easy to grab

• You’ll eat the foods you love.

Reduce coffee, soda, energy drinks with artificial sweeteners

• You’ll be empowered physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Cheese sticks – part skim, low fat Hard Boiled Eggs Unsalted almonds or nuts

• You’ll build lean, strong muscles.

SO WHY DO WE ALTERNATE HIGH-CARB & LOW-CARB DAYS IN CARB CYLCING? Advice at a Glance! u

Choose a hairstyle you are comfortable with. You want to look like yourself on your wedding day.

u

Plan a practice for your hair and makeup to make sure you like the style and colors. Once completed, take photos of the final look so you can refer to them on your day.

u

u The morning of your wedding, wear a button-down shirt or a dress that can be slipped down over your hips. Do not wear clothing that you will have to pull over your head. You don’t want to mess up your hair and makeup.

u 40

Take it easy on the tan. Don’t try to cram in two months of tanning in one week. For spray on tanning have your last treatment at least one week prior to the wedding.

u

Don’t make drastic changes to your body right before your wedding. Don’t starve yourself or resort to crash dieting. Instead opt for a 4-6 month exercise routine.

u

Prepare a reasonable weight loss plan and stick to it! (A pound a week is the healthiest.)

u

Ask friends to work out with you. This will keep you motivated and on track.

Don’t get a brand new haircut before your wedding; just get a trim a few weeks before.

u Don’t have a facial or any other skin treatments within two weeks of your wedding. You want to have time for your skin to recover and you don’t want red blotchy skin.

u

u

u

Do not resort to drastic measures. Taking a dietary supplement may help you lose weight quickly but results will not be permanent.

u

If you are having your makeup professionally done, purchase or ask for samples so that you’ll be able to do touch ups throughout the day.

Eat smaller portions and incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet to keep you satisfied.

u

Zit Zapper: use a concealer one shade lighter than your skin tone under foundation.

Carry a supply of blotting tissues so you can keep the shine off your nose and forehead.

u

For sexy legs, soak in a bath for several minutes to soften hair. Then use a moisturizing shaving gel and shave in the opposite direction of hair growth.

Bridal Shower

Etiquette

A bridal shower is one of those parties that are fun and practical at the same time. Whether your shower is being hosted by your Maid of Honor, your female (distant) relatives, or your future in-laws, bridal shower etiquette can never be overlooked. 1. Let the Hostess Host - You have a say in EVERY aspect of your big day, but not your shower. Your shower is being hosted by someone who loves you, let them host. They may ask for a guests list, but beyond that, your input should be limited.

Bridal Showers & Gift Registries

2. Arrive early - Yes, it's your party. But by arriving earlier than your guests, you will have the opportunity to greet everyone as they enter. Your guests are there to see and spoil YOU, after all. 3. Keep a List - Appoint someone with nice handwriting to keep the list of all your gifts and their givers. Advice at a Glance! u Gifts for your bridesmaids may be presented at the bridesmaids’ luncheon, the rehearsal dinner or before the wedding as everyone is getting ready.

u The groom gives presents to his groomsmen at the bachelor party or rehearsal dinner.

u Gifts for attendants may be the same or different. However, if they are all the same you might want to consider personalizing them.

u Gifts for child attendants are either taken care of by the bride or given by the bride and groom as a couple. These gifts can either be given before the ceremony or at the rehearsal dinner.

u Give your parents their gifts at a time when you are alone together so it is more personal and special.

u If you and your groom wish to exchange gifts, you can do so the night before the wedding or on your wedding night. Consider doing this alone as it will feel more intimate.

u The earlier you register, the better.Your close friends and family may want to purchase engagement gifts for you. Be sure to check your registry often for discontinued items.

u Call before going to a store to register because some stores may require an appointment.

u Give yourself plenty of time when registering because it can be time-consuming.

Choosing an invitation style. While a panel card (or single rectangle sheet) invitation is the most popular style, there are many options when it comes to choosing your invitation. Pocket-style designs keep all of your information cards, like the accommodations, reception and rsvp cards, tidy and organized for your guests. Shapes are also popular, including circles and cards with decorative corner cuts. Many of these styles don’t require extra postage, so feel free to break from the mold and make your invitation unique.

It’s all in the details. A fresh and very popular detail is to print a simple design or pattern that matches your theme on the back of your invitation. This gives a thoughtful, “finished” look to the invitation.

Envelope liners, personalized stamps and the use of textured materials also help to create a unique invitation. Use ribbon, twine and various paper textures to craft the perfect look.

Choosing the right font. First, make sure you can read it! If you can’t, your guests won’t be able to, either. Script fonts are perfect for formal invitations, but be sure to see a proof with your names and information in the selected font, to be sure it’s legible. When choosing a script font, look at how the loops on the letters overlay one another. Many times, just a little bit of spacing between the letters allows the font to be read more easily. Sans Serif fonts are great for modern invitations, and a combination of script and serif fonts is perfect for vintage-inspired invitations. 49

Don’t forget the "Day-of" details.

Items like menu cards, place cards, table numbers and favors continue the theme of your wedding from the ceremony to the reception. It’s easy to extend the design elements you have chosen for your invitation and ceremony program onto other items your guests will see.

The PerfectWedding Style

Everything you need to know on picking the perfect wedding day jewels!

Now that you’ve said YES to that dress, it’s time to talk sparkly things. Finding the perfect jewelry can sometimes feel like an overwhelming task, but if you follow these 4 simple rules you’ll be checking that item off your VOW Wedding List in no time! 1- Gold, Silver, Pearls? Oh my! If you have embellishments on your dress in gold, stick to gold based jewelry, and vice versa with silver, pearls, or rose gold. If your dress does not have embellishments, refer to the following: White Gown- Pearls and platinum based jewels will adorn a crisp white dress best. Slightly Off-White Gown- Gold, silver, rose gold, and pearl all work well. Ivory/Champagne Gown-Gold jewelry will look best with this creamy tint of fabric.

2- Play up that Decolletage

Sweetheart or Strapless- Most dresses of this style have embellishments outlining the neckline. Skip the necklace to avoid too much jewels on your neck, and add in a great pair of chandelier earrings instead. If your dress is more on the plain side, opt for a bold statement necklace. V-Neck- Drop down earrings or a long pendant necklace work great with this universally flattering neckline. Halter- Adding a necklace to this type of dress will take away from the beauty of it. Stick to dangling or chandelier earrings and a bold cuff bracelet. Illusion- If you have delicate lace or mesh adorning the top of your dress, opt for small, studded earrings or a fun headpiece. Choose from a crystal headband, birdcage veil, or a ring of flowers. Off the Shoulders- With this neckline, you really can’t go wrong with any style of necklace. From drop downs, to statement pieces, or single and double stands - they all work!

3- Don’t forget the Maids

4- Stay True to Yourself

When it comes to finding the perfect jewelry for your bridesmaids, don’t over think it. If your maids are all wearing the same dress, mix it up by getting them all different necklaces or earrings. If they are wearing different dresses, use the guidelines above to choose the right pieces for each of their unique necklines. Just remember, if you have silver, pearls, or rose gold for your dress, carry that same color palette over to their jewels as well. This will create a wonderfully balanced look between you and all of your favorite women.

The most important thing to remember when choosing the perfect trinkets for your special day is that they should reflect you, and your style. If you’re not comfortable with large, chandelier earrings, stick to small studs. Love a bold statement necklace? Go for it! If you're comfortable in what you’re rocking, you’re guaranteed to sparkle! - Chelsea Tracy, Personal Stylist

Perfect Dress

for your body type!

To make sure you are looking your best on your big day, it's important to identify which dress fits your body shape best. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world where every dress looks the same on every woman. We are different, and we can celebrate this difference in the bridal fashions we choose for ourselves. Following the rules for your body shape will give you the freedom to look and feel amazing on your wedding day. Identify your body shape. This is the critical first step of finding the dress that will look best on you.

Straight physique - One Shoulder

Which best defines you: Straight: Little definition between bust, waist and hip measurements. Pear: Fuller at the hips and rear, and smaller on top. Hourglass: Curvaceous, with full bust, defined waist and full hips. Apple: Narrowest point is above the natural waist, at the ribs. Full bust: Bust measurement is fuller than hips and rear. After you have identified your body shape, you can start trying dresses that will most flatter your shape: Straight: By wearing an A-line or empire waist dress, you will create some curves. Also one-shoulder styles will flatter your figure by creating a dramatic silhouette.

Pear: Empire waist dress will extenuate your smallest part and bring attention to your waist. Strapless dresses will also be flattering on a pear-shaped bride bringing the attention to her upper body. Hourglass: An A-line dress is most flattering on an hourglass figure as it draws attention to her classic feminine form. Wrap dresses also create this effect. Apple: A wedding dress featuring an empire waist will draw the eye up, taking attention away from the middle and allowing a looser fit. Neck details also bring the focus up. Full bust: Classic V-neck dresses draw the eye downward for a slimming effect. A full skirt and details at the hem help balance out the btottom half.

The perfect Color Scheme

for the most important day

Although the wedding is all about the Bridal Gown, Bridesmaid fashions are just as important! Bridesmaids dresses may be long or short, although the knee length provides the ‘maids an opportunity to wear the dress again after the wedding. Other trends include hi-low hem lines and raised necklines for a feminine and flattering, more modest look. Chiffon and Lace are the two main fabric trends for 2014. Both of these fabrics create soft, vintage looks many brides are leaning toward. Everyone is different – sometimes trying to find a dress style and color that will be flattering on all of your Photo by studiofotographie

66

bridesmaids may be difficult. Allowing the bridesmaids to choose their own dress style and color may help all of your bridesmaids look their best! Choose a couple different styles and colors for the ‘maids to choose from to help everyone look their best, while still matching the theme and color scheme for your wedding day. Popular wedding colors for this year include charcoal or platinum gray, and shades of purple, coral, and turquoise.

Honor the T

here was a time when etiquette would strongly dictate a certain tuxedo for a certain time of day – or that you weren’t allowed to bend the rules on how formal the tuxedo should be for the venue where your wedding would be held. The only hard fast rule that applies today is that the groom needs to honor your gown by matching the style and formality. Everything centers around your gown. Here’s a few tips to ensure that your groom is truly honoring your gown – and honoring the importance of the moment when you both say, “I do”.

• If your gown is formal, full length and elegant with a long train and a mid to long veil Groom: Black or navy tuxedo with a

Gown

bow tie (preferably white / ivory to match gown). • If your gown is elegant and full length with a mid to short train and a mid to short veil Groom: Black or colored tuxedo with a bow tie or a Windsor knot tie . • If your gown is simple and full length with no train and a short veil or no veil at all Groom: A tuxedo or a dark suit. • If your gown is short with no train and no veil Groom:A suit or possibly dress pants and a vest and tie or even a shirt with rolled up sleeves for a more casual look. Another great way to spice up the day if you’ve picked a more formal

theme, but want to have some fun with the tuxedos, is to add some accessories that will only come out when you want them to – or at the reception – try these ideas! 1. Add colored socks and suspenders. 2. Choose a second vest to change into at the reception. 3. Bring a second tuxedo to change into at the reception. Honor the importance of this day, this moment and your gown by dressing your groom in something that truly shows he’s special and he cared enough to dress for the occasion.

f possible, start your wedding gown shopping 9 – 12 months before your wedding. Start looking through styles and trends while you’re planning the theme and feel of your wedding. Once you have a feel for the style of gown you may like, make your appointment at a bridal salon. Make your appointment count! Plan to spend a couple of hours and try on several different styles – you may arrive thinking a sweetheart neckline with a trumpet skirt is the dress for you and then hate it once it’s on! Your bridal consultant will chat with you about your price range and the styles you like. She will pull dresses for you to try on that fit into your budget and your style. If there is something you don’t like – be sure to let her know! Once your gown has been selected, the bridal shop will take all of your measurements. Your information will be sent to the gown designers so they can start to make your dress. Your wedding gown may be the one thing you wear in your life that is made just for you! Once your gown has arrived, they bridal shop will set up a fitting. The day of your fitting, bring the shoes and undergarments you plan on wearing the day of your wedding. The seamstress will help you get your dress on and see where adjustments will need to be made to make sure your dress fit you best. Your final fitting will be scheduled a few weeks out from your wedding day. This is a good time to bring in the jewelry you plan on wearing, as well as your shoes and lingerie so you may see how the entire ensemble looks!

trends!

hat will brides be wearing this year? Depending on who you talk to, the trends are either playing it safe, or throwing out the rulebook. As always, it comes down to the wearer. How you accessorize and finish a dress – and whether it really fits with your personal tastes – are what help create its presence. Ring designers clued us into the hottest new engagement ring styles. A simple solitaire may be a classic (and safe) choice, but 2015 is a year full of trends, specially in jewelry!

Rose, Yellow and White Gold -

No longer are brides looking for just white metal settings. The modern bride is keen on the two-tone luxury of white gold mixed with yellow or rose gold. Lush and posh are the key terms for these settings.

Unique Diamond Shapes - Round and Princess shaped diamonds are still the front runners, but unique shapes are becoming a more popular option. With celebrities favoring shapes like cushion, oval, pear and emerald, our local brides are taking notice!

The Traditional Metals for Grooms - Alternative metals continue

to be popular for many of our grooms. The bravado and durability of metals like Damascus steel, titanium, chrome and black zirconium meet the needs of the contemporary groom.

Stackable Wedding Bands - Who

says you can’t have it all? Brides are selecting more than one wedding band to perfectly stack with their engagement rings or simply with each other. It lends a more personalized and individual look for the fashionista!

Wedding Day Jewelry Remember! don't pick jewelry for the sake of wearing jewelry. The style of your dress is the best indicator as to whether you need jewelry. Enhance the beauty of your dress with jewelry, don't ruin or hide it when selecting bridal jewelry. This is why you should allow your dress to decide what is needed as far as jewelry. Do you have a lower neckline that a necklace and earrings would complement? Are your sleeves short enough for a bracelet to be added gracefully? Reflect the type of jewelry with various features of your dress. In some cases if the gems are liberal on a dress, then balance is created by selecting jewelry that is simpler. Allow your hairstyle to dictate wedding jewelry 74

selection. If you are wearing your hair up, then earrings that hang may be appropriate. But, again, every item of jewelry you choose needs to complement your dress as a whole, and your final look needs to show you off, not camouflage you. Choose jewelry that reflects your personality and who you are.You want to feel comfortable in what you are wearing. You have presumably selected a dress that matches your personality, so do the same with your jewelry. If you feel more comfortable with simpler jewelry, then select items that match your dress and your personal style. -PHOTOS & ARTICLE BY THE DIAMOND ROOM, SIOUX FALLS, SD

RING

KEEPING

YOUR SPARKLING SAFE& CLEAN

K

nowing the fundamentals of ring care is a great way to ensure ever-lasting beauty. Sparkling and Shiny – Scheduling maintenance appointments with your jeweler at least once a year is important to ensure the prongs are tights, the diamond isn’t loose and there no hairline cracks in the shank. There is also usually a professional “shine-up” included too. In addition, always remove your ring when cleaning or touching harsh chemicals as bleach or other cleaning agents can dull the finish of a ring – which means less sparkle for you! Safe and Sound – Purchasing insurance is a necessity to protect your financial investment in the

event that something gets lost, stolen or damaged. You may also strongly consider getting your jewelry appraised every five years as the cost of diamonds and precious metals go up. If you were to lose a ring that was appraised 10 years ago, the insured value would be far less than the actual replacement cost. Also, follow the rule to not remove your ring in public. Since washing your hands in a public restroom is a must, you will need to resist the temptation to remove your ring while you’re lathering up so you don’t have to worry about leaving it at the sink, or dropping it down the drain. Clean and Polished – Make sure to handle your diamond sparingly since your fingers provide enough oil from

your skin to alter the way your diamond looks and always clean your diamond regularly. One simple way to easily clean your ring is to soak the diamond in an ammonia-based household cleaner overnight, once or twice weekly. In the morning, simply remove the diamond form the cleaner and brush it off with a soft, clean toothbrush to remove any leftover dirt. Finally, rinse the ring and diamond with water and wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth. -SYDNEY BARTUNEK GONNAGETWED.com

teardrop jewel earrings in the wedding color palette are a great way to adorn your ‘Maids.

When setting your girls up for their style, point them in the direction you would like. If you want the ‘Maids to wear a particular style of jewelry, it may be best to find them yourself and gift them to the girls during the Rehearsal Dinner.

Another popular trend is delicate, asymmetrical necklaces. The length of the necklaces will vary based on the neckline of the dresses, but 2015 is showing trends of delicate metal strands with small pearl or gem pendants in any length.

The"IN" with the Ring Your wedding rings lasts longer than the one day; you get enjoyment every day wearing them as they represents the commitment you made to each other. Here are some tips I have from my 20 years of helping couples select the perfect ring to represent their marriage. Educate Yourself Start with the American Gem Society (ags.org), a fantastic nonprofit, non bias educational source you can trust. Keep in mind, diamonds are one of the most intensely graded items on the planet, there is a lot to know, and the more prepared you are, the more confident you will be to select the perfect diamond. Get the inside scoop Listen up guys….one of the most important things you can do is get the inside scoop on the ring style she has been dreaming of. One thing I hear on a regular basis working in a jewelry store are women telling me they would never have chosen the ring they received and how much they would have preferred a different style. Be creative and observant, asks her friends for help, even take her shopping with you! just figure out the ring of her dreams and do what you and your budget allows to get it. If you really want everything to be a surprise and you are not sure of the style preferred, choose the diamond and propose with a solitaire; then allow her to come with you to choose the setting she would love to wear. Your opinion doesn’t matter It’s not about you; your opinion does not matter when choosing the ring for your soon to be bride or groom. Each of us has our own individual taste, and each of us have to look at the ring on our finger every day for the rest of our life. The best answer, when asked what you think, is always say “I like what you like.” Another Sale… Really? The jewelry industry is notorious for sales, just like the car industry. Don’t get sucked into the hype. Take your time; this is a very important purchase! Shop around, forget about the retail price it originally was, instead look at the bottom dollar price presented and compare your options to find out where you will get the most for your dollar. Avoid extended warranties and service plans Consumer reports says it best; “An expensive gamble, the majority of buyers never use the coverage.” Many jewelry stores offer extended warranties and service plans for your engagement ring purchases, they are expensive, and usually have an abundance of fine print, restrictions, exclusions and expiration dates. They are a profit powerhouse for the jewelry stores that sell them. It is better to skip the extended warranty or service plan; purchase a quality ring, take care of it, have it cleaned and inspected regularly. Understand that service work or repairs will be needed over the years; a ring will not last forever, just don’t prepay for work you may never need. Steel, is that all your worth? A new trend in the jewelry industry is alternative metals, especially in men’s wedding bands. While these rings are very cool, inexpensive, and seem like a great place to save money in the wedding budget, you may end up disappointed in a few years. Customers who have selected and worn these steel wedding bands over the years and are now coming back to select something new because of the drawbacks of steel bands. Most cannot be refinished, cannot be sized, some cannot be exposed to certain chemicals like chlorine, and some have alloys in them that some people are allergic to. Stick with a precious metal for your wedding bands, they may be a bit more expensive, but they can be sized, refinished, you will always have the original ring blessed at your ceremony, it is something of value you can pass on, because you and your marriage are worth it. -PHOTOS & ARTICLE BY GUNDERSONS, SIOUX FALLS, SD

Questions to Ask! u How long does it take to order rings or do you have them ready to take home?

u

Do you have loose diamonds to choose from?

u

Can a ring be resized later or does the decoration on it prevent this?

u

Do you engrave?

u

Is there an additional charge to have a ring resized once it comes in?

u

If so, what is the cost and how long does it take?

u

If not, can you recommend a jeweler who engraves?

u

Once we’ve decided what we want, will you show us sample arrangements?

u

What are the prices of the bands? Hers?/His?

u How much is the item(s) we like?

Advice at a Glance! u Many couples choose to have their rings engraved on the inside with their initials, wedding date, a short phrase or something else that is meaningful to them.

u Machine engraving is cheaper than hand engraving; however, the person that does the hand engraving makes a deeper cut which is a longer-lasting inscription.

u Brides shouldn’t wear a ton of jewelry on their wedding day; less is often more! Items to choose from include bracelets, earrings, necklaces and other rings. At most, pair only two of these items along with your wedding rings. If you choose to wear a necklace, it should be small and discreet, no longer than 14-16 inches and never low enough to emphasize cleavage. In addition, pearls shouldn’t be larger than the largest pearl on the wedding dress.

u Make sure to put in writing exactly what you want your inscription to say. Keep a copy for your records.

Rustic weddings are not just in the country! The rustic wedding offers brides with lots of creativity and love of natural earth tones the ability to create unique and fun features for the ceremony and reception. This is also a great theme for couples that are earth friendly. Many of the elements used recently in rustic weddings are reused or repurposed items such as tin cans, mason jars, burlap bags, and metal and tin pieces such as wagon wheels. Often the muted colors of the natural elements allow the wedding accent color to really give a pop of color and create a dramatic affect! With the rustic theme, rust is definitely a plus!

TRADITIONAL CELEBRATION Photo by Greg & LaRae Photography

Brides that value tradition often go for the traditional wedding venue – the Church! These brides also tend to plan their wedding by the book. This means elements such as “the Grand Entrance,” “Welcome Toasts,” “Cutting the Cake,” and so on. Traditional weddings often appeal to older generations who feel the wedding is more about the two families merging than just the couple. Often times, traditional weddings are easier to plan because there are hundreds of planners and guides to help you create the perfect day!

UNIQUE /MODERN There is no definition of a Modern Wedding; however here are a few words that can start to describe things that are found in a modern style: Clean, Crisp, and Bling. Modern brides prefer gray scale and monochromatic colors, with pops of color that offer a bold contrast. Receptions center around lean crisp shapes, and simple designs with a less is more attitude. Modern brides opt for soaring ceilings and loft like atmospheres that include even a few retro like accents!

Tips from the experts! “When it comes to finding your perfect reception venue, narrow it down to your top 5 locations. Then schedule your tours back to back and take lots of photos (if allowed). Be sure to ask the same questions at each venue and find out about every inclusion and add on. After going over all the prices, contracts and details, look through your photos. Tip from the experts! HELP…I don’t know if I should do a Plated Meal or Buffet?

What is most popular? What should we do? What is the best choice? These are all typical questions discussed between a bride and groom. I always advise couples to do what makes the most sense for them. It is important to consider the demographics of any group that you are serving food and beverage to. However, for an event as personal and important as your wedding reception, I like to say the customary “rules” do not, or at least should not, completely apply. Your wedding reception venue should be available and happy to offer advice on choices that characteristically go over better, and will meet the needs of your event. Thinking about what style you would like is the first step. Plated meals give the event a more formal feel with servers attending each table and presenting a plate in front of each guest. A buffet or reception style (stations or appetizers) allow for a more social and casual environment for your guests.

What about doing something a little out of the ordinary? Is there something in between? I have great news for you - there is! If this sounds like an attractive option to you, “Family Style” is the way to go! Family style requires the proper setup, which happens to be a trendy new look of long tables. I like the “feel” of the atmosphere this arrangement creates, and it definitely generates buzz among your guests. The setup literally mirrors a family dinner, allowing for a very natural way to get your guests talking. Now for the foodservice! The food is delivered to each table in separate dishes, and placed in the center of the table. Naturally, your guests will grab for the dishes and pass them around the table to the other guests. Some of the best choices for this style of service might be Italian, Mexican, or Indian cuisines; however other options could also be accommodated successfully. Sioux Falls Convention Center 97 101

After months of planning your special day, sitting down to a great meal is one of the best ways to share the excitement with your family and friends.“Comfort” foods, such as melt in your mouth roast beef, baked chicken and charbroiled pork loin are satisfying and give your guests energy to dance through the night. If you wish to go a bit more non-traditional consider a menu of smokehouse products like beef brisket, pulled pork, ribs and chicken. One local company specializing in these is called Crazy Bob’s and is provided through MarketPlace Catering.

Often when you book a caterer all you get is the food! At MarketPlace Catering, you get so much more than that! Real plates and silverware are always included at NO extra cost, a staff of servers to set up the buffet and even bus off the tables when the meal is completed. If the venue that you select does not already offer linens and napkins, those can be provided as well, and with a possibility of no cost to you.

MarketPlace Catering also offers a complimentary tasting session for up to 4 people. This is the perfect time to discuss any food allergies or special dietary requirements (like gluten free or vegetarian) so chef "Crazy Bob" Larsen can adjust the ingredients to meet your needs. With everything made from scratch your guests will have a delicious meal! - The MarketPlace Catering

Wedding Cake Trends 2015 Trends

With all of the cake design possibilities, you might be easily overwhelmed. Many brides have a love hate relationship with Pinterest and like sights. You can view wonderful and fresh ideas but tend to second-guess yourself on the next click of the mouse.

Metallic The metallic cake trend is quickly rising. Using edible 24 kt gold leaf , sliver griller or even bronze metallic air brush can give you that old Hollywood glam or art deco feel.

Consider the theme and feel of your wedding reception. Is it casual, elegant, rustic or just a fun party.

NAKED This design is wonderful for those looking for a rustic, natural concept. Using wild flowers, succulents and berries to decorate is most popular.

- The Cake Lady

Textures Many cakes are being designed with different types of textures. Lace, ruffles, piping and different techniques in frosting for cakes can add and play on the elegant classical style.

Photos By The Cake Lady

Hand Painted Hand painted wedding cakes are also growing popularity. The cake becomes a canvas to be painted with the details that tie in all your wedding elements and is a “one of a kind” piece of art on display for your wedding day.

Simple & Elegant There is a lot to be said for a simple– clean look. Whether you prefer buttercream or fondant, you can get a crisp pure look. Photos By The Cake Lady

Grooms Cake The wedding cake is generally a representation of the theme and feel of the wedding with ruffles, lace and flowers, probably not his favorite things. It is becoming popular to also have a grooms cake that represents his likes. From sports, hunting, fishing and even favorite video games can be represented. Grooms cakes are generally presented at the rehearsal dinner or at the wedding reception. If the cake is a surprise, you might want to consider creating a gift box without a bottom to place over the cake.

T

he kind of music you pick for your wedding dance will have a huge impact on the entire atmosphere of the evening! So, there is a lot to consider before you begin choosing your songs. First of all, what is the overall theme or feel of the day. Is it soft and romantic, or vibrant and colorful? You should try to match your music with the theme for the day. How are you bringing you and your fiancé’s personality into the day? The music you choose should not only entertain your guests, but it should also reflect on your personality as a couple. Learn a simple, choreographed group dance to surprise your guests and rock your reception. Or, take lessons to make your first dance memorable (in a good way)! A few examples of songs:

TOP 10 RECEPTION SONGS:

1.

Just a Kiss – Lady Antebellum

2.

Get Up Ouffa That Thing – James Brown A Thousand Years – Christina Perri God gave me you – Blake Shelton Your Song – Ellie Goulding I Want to Dance with Somebody – Whitney Houston Everybody – Ingrid Michaelson I Saw Her Standing There – The Beatles This is How We Do It – Montell Jordan Celebration – Kool & The Gang

3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.

TOP ACTIVITES & GAMES TO PLAY 1. The Shoe Game – This comical game is a great way for guests to get to know the bride and groom better. You can also get your guests in on the fun by letting them vote on bride vs. groom. 2. Wedding I Spy – This is a wonderful way to get extra photos from your wedding. Ask your guests to use their digital cameras or smartphones to capture the moments even the best photographers sometimes miss. 3. Table Games – Keep your guests entertained with some table games: wedding guest bingo, Mad Libs or Booklets (tcome up with a question for each table and put a mini booklet and pens for guests to add their ideas). 4.Yard Games – Beanbag Toss, Ring toss, Oversized Jenga,

How Much Should You Spend? W

hen couples start to plan their budget their biggest mistake is often setting a budget without understanding how far that budget will go; especially when it comes to the DJ and Dance! When brides are surveyed after their wedding year after year the number one thing that brides wished they would have spent more on it is their wedding dance! In fact 100% of brides surveyed said they would have spent more money on the entertainment if they could do it all over again. The Dance or reception is the defining memory for most of the guests. If the dance was lame and boring that is what they will remember. But if the dance ROCKED, they remember what a fantastic wedding it was. Beware of inexpensive entertainment! Of course a DJ who has a 10 year old set of worn out speakers and pirated list of songs who only DJ’s part-time as a hobby is going to cost far less than a DJ who devotes a large amount of time and

money to have the best equipment and offer high end amazing event! Think of your wedding dance like a wedding ring. What would you get for $500 vs. $2500? Would you be excited to show off the $500 ring like you would a $2500 ring? No of course not. The more experienced and better DJ’s cost more…period! So as you plan your wedding dance, instead of setting a budget first, interview your top 3 DJ choices and then evaluate what they offer and what the cost is. From there set your budget according to how big of a wow factor you want to create for your guests. One thing you will not regret is having the dance of your life! - Kari Black, GONNAGETWED.COM

Entertaining your guests

at the dance!

The “Shoe Game” is a great ice breaker, and gets a lot of laughs! Set two chairs back to back in the middle of the dance floor and ask the bride and groom to take a seat. Have the maid of honor remove both the groom’s shoes and the Best man remove the brides; then give them each a shoe of theirs and one of their spouse. Then the DJ announces “This game is to show how much the new Mr./Mrs. John and Jane Doe really know about each other… I will ask you a question and you raise the shoe that you think best fits the answer to the question…his show for him and her shoe for her.” Sometimes the bride will put up her shoe, and the groom will put up his, and the guests will roar. This can also be done with parents of the bride or groom or other guests. The trick is, do not let the couple know the questions ahead of time.

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER:

6 Who wakes up first in the morning?

6 Who has the wackiest family?

6 Who takes the longer shower?

6 Who’s the better driver?

6 Who spends the most time getting ready to go out?

6 Who spends more money?

6 Now that you’re married,Who will be the first to say… “not tonight”.

6 Who is in control of the checkbook?

6 Who steals the cover’s more ?

6 Who wears the pants in the family?

6 Who’s most likely to get lost?

6 Who is always right?

6 Who’s the most likely to wake up grumpy in the morning ?

6 Who is more into their looks? 6 Who is the biggest flirt? 6 Who is the more serious person? 6 Who is more likely to get injured? 6 Who made the first move?

6 Who is in charge of the remote? 6 Who is the better kisser?

6 Who said “I LOVE YOU” first?

6 Who is more likely to kill a spider in the house?

6 Who’s the better cook?

The Perfect Flower Photography by Studiofatographie

ust like in fashion, the growing trend of color blocking is becoming very popular in floral

arrangements and you will definitely be seeing more of it at weddings. Color blocking is when a color is chosen and different kinds of flowers are picked to match that specific color palette, creating a dramatic grouping effect. The intense concentration of each strategicallyplaced color will draw attention to the flowers while the assorted textures will create depth. Stick to two or three colors, anymore than that and you might end up losing the bold effect. To keep your flowers beautiful for the full wedding day, be sure to put flowers back into water between the pictures and cermony and reception. Even 20 -

photographer, there may be time or location limitations. If you have the opportunity, change into another outfit half way through. Then you have more options in photos to print!

The first thing you are going to need to consider is the season in which your photos are being taken. It's importan to platn your pictures at least six months before your wedding in order to use your photos for save-the-dates and wedding website. Every season has the opportunity to take beautiful pictures, but your outfits should correspond accordingly.

• Choose solids--By choosing to wear solid colors in your engagement pictures, you are ensuring the attention and camera focus will be on you and your fiance the entire time.

• Keep accessories simple--Besides your engagement ring, chose only one other accessory for each outfit.

Once the season is decided and booked with your photographer, the next step is to pick YOUR outfit. Here are some things to keep in mind: • Consider the season--This one's easy. If you're taking pictures in the fall, kneehigh boots,

• Choose classic styles--You don't want to have to look back on your engagement pictures five years from now and think "What was I thinking?" You're Not A Videographer !

Y

es, yes, everyone has an HD video camera these days, but that does not mean they can capture your wedding day in a meaningful way. There is so much more to a wedding video than just some footage. If you decide to save money and just have Uncle James shoot your wedding, be prepared to be disappointed!

There are a few things to consider when deciding whether or not to hire a videographer or go it alone:

• Pay the extra to have a second camera and cameraman! This allows for a better ability to get more footage and from different angels which will deliver a much more inclusive video. • Sound is essential! Have someone experienced in capturing the right sounds will make for a neat video. The couple will appreciate not only being able to see the ceremony but hear the VOW they spoke that day! • Editing allows for a movie like feel! During the editing process things such as, special effects, highlight reels, etc., will create a smooth wedding video. Simple cuts here and there will take hours of video and create a sleek final video. • Fun extras that can be added include: thehowwe-fell-love story, engagement story, and special stories from friends and family, which can really make the video a true treasure for the couple. If you hire an experienced videographer there are other things they will do to prepare for shooting your wedding that you may never think of. Here are a few of those things: • Research the Church and Reception venue to know ahead of the best placements of the cameras so they don’t miss anything. •

Provide lapel mics that are wireless.

Be unobtrusive but still get the best shots.

Provide additional lighting if needed.

Interview guests.

So while this article does not provide all the great reasons to hire a videographer, hopefully it has given you something to think about!

Just Be

in LOVE

Just “Be in Love!” Sound like a crazy thing for someone to tell you on your wedding day? Maybe so, but I can not tell you how many bride and grooms I tell that to. Why? Keep reading! Candid, relaxed, spontaneous looking, sweet and playful photos are in right now. I can promise you that a huge percentage of those photos did not happen because a photographer was standing in front of them, posing them and giving instructions on how to whisper in each other's ear.The photos found on pinterest that everyone wants to duplicate happened because a man and a woman were so in love and so into each other that those poses and looks came naturally. Now, I'm sure most of you are thinking, “duh, it's my wedding day, of course I'm going to be in love.” But think about it, you have been planning this day for months, sometimes years. You have last minutes details dancing in your head, worries of people being where they need to be when they need to be, and hopes that the day runs as smoothly as 132

you have dreamed it would. Don't let yourself be distracted for your photos by all those thoughts and worries. Before your photos begin, take that time during your 'first look' of each other, to take a deep breath, forget the craziness of the day, and settle in for an hour or so of just the two of you and a crazy person with a camera.

change who you are and please don't try to do something that you know will make you uncomfortable. Here is a list of things to think about before you get to the wedding day photos.

I tell my couples, “I'm going to set you up, do a couple posed shots and then step back and that is when you do your thing”. Forget about me, stare into each others eyes, whisper secrets, and tickle each other if you want to. I do this with almost every pose I set a couple up in. Allowing yourself to be in the moment with the person you love makes a world of difference. That comes across in your photos more than you will ever know.

2. Talk with each other about your photos. As a bride searching pinterest for ideas, don't leave your groom out.

Now, not everyone is comfortable enough to just settle in and share kisses and be all sweet and intimate with others around, and that is totally fine. You can't

1. Do an engagement session with your photographer. This makes a huge difference when it comes to the big day.

3. Be yourself!! You fell in love with each other, you know each other, you make each other feel comfortable. The overall thing to remember is to be yourself and let your love for each other shine through! - VanDyke Studios, sioux falls, sd

o you are in the midst of planning your wedding and you are going through the checklist...venue, gown, caterer... when you come across the topic of video. Some couples know from the beginning that they want a video, others wait until the last minute and still others ask, 'Why would I ever need a video? After all, we have a photographer right?' Why then do you need a video? The answer lies in the fact that video has an inherently different affect on couples than any other medium available. Photos are great and are definitely recommended, but there is something to be said about how a video camera, while in the hands of a professional, captures the emotion of your day...the day. A bride said that when she and her 6 foot 3 inch tall, 240 pound husband watched their video together, he cried recalling all the memories and emotions of seeing his new wife come down the aisle. Another bride watched her video again after her father passed away, and said that the Father Daughter dance was the way she wanted to remember him.Video, well done, has the power to capture these memories unlike anything else. Perhaps reliving these moments through video is starting to appeal to you. But, how do you decide who to hire? If you are like a lot of brides, you think of someone in your family who owns a video camera. Unless your family member is a professional, this is definitely not advisable. Besides, wouldn't you want your family member to enjoy your day with you, instead of worrying about manning a camera? The latest trend is to hire a production company that focuses on weddings and has a portfolio of actual weddings they have done. This way you can see their finished work and decide if their visual style is right for you and your spouse. This option generally ranges in price from around $1500 to $5500, and produces the highest quality video to highlight your day. Wherever you are in the planning stage, consider hiring a professional to help capture your day. It can make all the difference.

your wedding photography Boudoir photography is a new sexy trend for brides to give to their grooms as a gift on their wedding day. The photos are usually taken with very few, if any, clothes on, but the style is more of an implied nude. The bride may be positioned on her stomach or the photo taken from the back, so even though she may not be wearing anything, she also isn’t showing anything. The photos should be classy sexy – not R rated! Where should pictures?

we

take

the

You and your photographer can talk over the details of the location. Sometimes your photographer will rent a hotel room or a private B&B to allow you the opportunity to get ready and take your photos in private.

What should I wear? Wear something that makes you feel sexy – that can be a simple as a white collared men’s dress shirt, black lingerie, or a lace robe. Be sure to bring a variety of items for you to change into (and out of), but also bring a pair of sexy high heels and some necklaces as props. How to get comfortable? Posing half naked in front of someone you may not know very well might not be the easiest thing to do. Consider bringing a friend to make you feel more relaxed (maybe some champagne too…). The shoot may take a couple of hours and the first few photos may be pretty stiff. But after a little bit of joking around and getting more relaxed, it will be easier to be comfortable in front of the camera. What should I do with the photos after? Many photographers can help you make a mini photo book to give to your groom as part of his wedding present. You can also give a photo to your husband as gifts throughout your marriage like a seductive trail of breadcrumbs. - Emily Sorenson GonnaGetWed.com

Advice at a Glance u Scout out your ceremony and reception sites with your photographer before your wedding day to choose the best settings for your formal photographs.

u Consider taking formal portraits before the ceremony so you and the wedding party can enjoy the cocktail hour. If you are superstitious and don’t want to take shots with your groom before the ceremony, just take all the formal shots that don’t include him ahead of time.

u Serve non-alcoholic drinks and hors d’oeuvres to those who will be posing for pictures prior to arriving at the reception site to keep your bridal party lively for the pictures. Take any photos immediately upon arrival before party members begin drinking or are distracted.

Transportation

T

here are a variety of options available for transportation on your wedding day. Here are some tips we think can help you plan! 1. Book early! Make sure your reservation is in between 3 – 6 months ahead of your wedding. Depending on the time of year, there may be a lot of other events requiring rented transportation. Book early to help ensure you have exactly what you want lined. 2. Think outside the box – maybe line up something nontraditional! Rent an old car (or just ask the owner to drive you and the groom), line up a horse trailer, or go for the horse drawn carriage. There are a lot of options out there, you just need to think ahead and plan according to your unique bridal style! 3. Think about who all needs transportation. Do you plan on having the bridal party travel with you? What about your parents? Are their children in the wedding? A common trend is to have the bridal party travel in a limo bus and have some drinks along the way. Consider who all will be riding in the bus to best accommodate everyone. Don’t forget to ask your photographer to join you. Also – the bus won’t be staying around to take you back to your car at the ceremony location! Make sure there is a way to get back to cars at the end of the night! 4. Make the reservation in person. You don’t want to be surprised the day of your wedding. Make sure the transportation you have lined up meets your standards by checking it out in person. 5. Plan for delays – every trip will take longer. Whether someone forgot their purse inside and need to run in to get it or you encounter unexpected traffic, there will be delays on the day of your wedding. Add 20 minutes – maybe 30 – just to make sure you have plenty of time for every, “Oh, just let me grab…” 6. Most often you are paying by the hour for transportation with an minimum amount of time required. Be cognizant of how long it takes to get to places, how long the driver is waiting for you and for how many hours you are paying them. 7. Plan your travel style! Have fun with this - make a playlist of your favorite songs, bring a box of fun costumes to wear in your pictures, or choose a unique ride – travel in your style on your big day! - GonnaGetWed.com

Guest Accommodations

F

ooting the bill for out of town wedding guests overnight accommodations and flights isn't your responsibility, however you can make the stay more enjoyable for them. Taking the time to secure a discount on a block of rooms will do 2 things:

1. Saves your guests time money and stress. Booking a hotel in an unfamiliar city takes time to research and causes stress. Reserving a block or rooms with reduce anxiety and generally means your guests receive a discount from the standard price. 2. Allows your friends and relatives to stay close to each other for the duration of the wedding. Weddings are a great chance to spend quality time with people you love and staying in the same hotels allows them to capitalize on every extra minute. Many couples prefer to stay in a hotel on their wedding night. Depending on how many guests book a room, often the couple gets the honeymoon suite at a discounted rate or for free! Here are a few questions to ask when deciding what hotel to recommend to your guests: 1. 2. 3. 4.

How far are you from my reception site? Do you offer any transportation services? Do you have any special accommodations? Do you offer a honeymoon suite with the room block?

In the end your guests will appreciate your willingness to make their trip great! - GonnaGetWed.com

W

hether you decide to take your husband’s last name is up to you. If you do it, there are a lot of different places where you have to change it.

These are the different areas where most people have to change their name: • Social Security Card • Drivers License • Auto Registration • Credit Cards

e

gM Ta

Mrs. Ms. to

South Dakota has very strict guidelines about getting a new Drivers License. The items you will need to bring to get a new Drivers License with your new last name: • Birth Certificate • Your current Drivers License or state issued ID • Your Marriage license • Paystub with your name, address, and social security number • A piece of mail with your new address with your husband • Another piece of mail, a bill preferably, with your name and your new address. The most important thing to remember here is this – It may be challenging and it may be annoying, but all of these companies have hoops for you to jump through when changing your name to protect you! They want to make sure you really are who you say you are so that no one can take your identity and ruin your credit, steal your money, make the first part of your new life together awful.

• Bank accounts • Utilities

- GonnaGetWed.com

• Medical Organizations •Legal Documents (Will, Power of Attorney, etc) • Billed services (phone bill, insurance, etc) This can be a long list and not everything has to be done at once. Many of these organizations can change your name over the phone. Others, Banks and Credit Unions for example, want to see a copy of the Marriage Certificate and your Drivers License before they will change the name on the account. When you are ready to change your Social Security Card, here are the local offices to connect with. You may be able to fill out forms online as well if you are interested. • Sioux Falls Social Security office: 2400 W. 49th Street, Sioux Falls, SD • Yankton Social Security office: 121 W. 3rd St,Yankton, SD • Aberdeen Social Security office: 115 4th Ave SE, Aberdeen, SD • Sioux City, IA Social Security office: 3555 Southern Hills Dr Sioux City, IA For the Social Security Administration, you will need to bring your driver’s license, your marriage certificate, and fill out a name change form. After all of your materials are submitted you should receive your card in the mail in a couple of weeks.

Top 5 Reasons

YOU SHOULD USE A REALTOR!

1. We Know The Market Realtors® pride themselves on knowing specifics on their local real estate market. Using an agent that knows their local market well saves you time and is much more convenient if you are looking to buy or sell your home! If you’re selling, your agent should be able to give you a very good idea of what your home may really be worth by filling you in on what your neighborhood trends are doing, what you can do to save time and money, and how to read an offer when you get one. If you are buying a home, your agent may have access to all of the listings you see on the Multiple Listing Service (as long as they are a part of their local Association of Realtors®). Your agent can also really give you peace of mind to know you’re not paying more than you really should when you find that perfect place to call home. 2. Contracts Can Be Scary Having an agent to walk you through all of the paperwork can be comforting! Making sure you understand all of the terms of the contract is what we do. We also make sure that ALL necessary paperwork is done correctly. Because there is so much that goes into a sale or a purchase of a home, it is important to make sure you have someone on your side, advocating and negotiating on YOUR behalf; don’t take it on alone! 3. Time Is Of The Essence Many agents have very good relationships with other real estate professionals in the area. A contract will specify deadlines for things like home inspections, appraisals, and mortgage loan specifics. Using a Realtor® who is connected will help make sure your offer or sale is being handled in a timely manner and following the contract as it should.

Ready For A Move?

4. You Need Objective Information Sure, the home you want to buy is really pretty… It’s painted well, staged with nice furniture, and it has a great view! BUT, are you seeing the hail damage on the roof and siding, termite damage in the basement, or the moldy trim in the corner? Realtors® provide a due diligence to their clients during home showings and can help you see things that you may have missed. Use an agent that can help you see the BIG picture! 5. After Closing What happens after you move?! Many questions can pop up that were overlooked in the excitement of closing. Your Realtor® should be ready to take your call and assist with answering your questions, even after closing! - MAGGIE MILLER, HEGG REALTORS

Custom Built Cabinets There is a lot of confusion surrounding the words “custom built” when it comes to cabinets. The main difference is craftsmanship! True custom cabinets are made to last. Webster’s Dictionary defines the term custom built in the following manner: built to individual order/specifications. One could assume that means cabinet size, style, finish. This is not so, however. Custom built is made to suit ones budget, taste, but most importantly, made to fit exactly in the space available. The difference between custom built cabinets and prefabricated is that the “prefab” cabinets are made in standard dimensions and anything different becomes “custom” in their eyes. For example, if you have an 11 foot wall, the prefab will come in 18 inch, 24 inch 38 inch, etc. In any event you are left with a void. Something has to fill that void whether it’s a divider, filler or pans leaving unusable space. A custom cabinet on the other hand will be made to specifically fit that area giving you use of the entire space. A cabinet is made of basically a box, face frame, door, drawer and shelves. So when comparing the two, one must take into consideration all of the elements listed below.

Custom

MORTGAGE MYTHS...

CONGRATULATIONS You’re ready to start your new life together!

Mortgage Myth #1 – My credit score suffers when I shop for a mortgage. Inquiries into your credit can affect your score. Your credit score can have an impact on which programs you qualify for and what rate you receive. However, if several lenders pull credit within a short period of time, it should not affect your score. If you go to a lender every week for a month or two, then yes, your score may take a hit. If you are going to shop for a mortgage, do it by applying at all the lenders in the same week, if possible, to avoid issues that can affect your qualifying rate and terms. Mortgage Myth #2 – A 30-Year Fixed Rate Mortgage is the way to go. Rates on fixed rate loans are historically low. But the consumer has many options including 10-year, 15-year, 20-year or even a 25-year fixed rate loan. Rates usually improve the shorter the term of the loan. Also, Adjustable Rate Mortgages are at historic lows as well and for the right situation, can save the borrower thousands in interest. Talking to a mortgage lender will help you determine what loan structure fits your financial needs. Mortgage Myth #3 – I will have mortgage insurance on my loan forever. If you have a loan that requires mortgage insurance, it will eventually fall off. For example, FHA loans drop the insurance when your loan balance reaches 78% of the original value of the home at the time of financing. Conventional loans will also remove your mortgage insurance at the 78% mark. You can always request it be removed early if you think your home has appreciated enough, but might have to do an appraisal to support the value. Mortgage insurance is a great tool to help you get in to a home, but it won’t be required forever. Under some circumstances, it's even tax deductible.

Getting into the right home is easier with the right mortgage. The best place to start is with one of the market’s most experienced mortgage teams. You’ll be surprised at how fast and simple the loan process can be if it’s done right. Before you know it, you’ll have a mortgage that fits your lifestyle and a great new home to go with it. Give us a call. We’ll get it done!

Mortgage Myth #4 – Banks aren’t lending, it's hard and takes too long get approved. While it is true that state income programs have disappeared, people who make their payments and can show their income, can and will get a loan. Some programs have increased their minimum credit score requirements to 620 or higher. If your credit score is under that, start working on it now! One or two 30-day late payments will not normally affect your approval but it may affect the interest rate you qualify for. When you go to the appointment with your mortgage lender, bring your most recent two years of income tax returns, current pay stubs and current bank statements. If you have all the supporting documentation, your lender should be able to tell you what you are approved for that same day, or shortly thereafter. - Nichoelle Waldner First Bank & Trust, Sioux Falls, SD
