WeddingTRENDS W

hen it comes to planning your wedding you might want to keep in touch with recent trends as they can definitely add an extra spark to your wedding! Trends will keep your wedding modern and will also make it memorable! Here are some recent trends that have been arising in the bridal world:

Mason Jars:

More brides are starting to choose a vintage theme for their wedding. Mason jars can be used for everything from lighting to favors and décor! Try filling them with water and adding a floating candle. To finish it off, tie a ribbon around the outside that matches your wedding colors. You can also use them as a vase.

Shoes: Brides aren’t just sticking to the standard

Family Heirloom Jewelry:

Burlap & Lace: Try adding this country

Paper Lanterns: These can come in many

white heel anymore. Don’t be afraid to wear your favorite blue heels, pink frilly hills to match your bouquet, or even your cowgirl boots and converse tennis shoes! It’s really up to you how far you want to go with this but wearing non-traditional shoes can provide for some great photo opportunities too!

chic look to your wedding decor. The femininity of lace can be combined with a rustic spin of burlap. This makes for a beautiful and trendy combination. Burlap and lace can be integrated to all areas of your wedding—from the bouquets and ring bearer’s pillow to invitations and table decor at the reception!

A Hint of Mint: There are great things that you can do with this year's amazing color trend, the color mint. Try pairing it with gray or tan!

Finished Vision Photography

Don’t just hide these family heirlooms; have them made into one-of-a-kind custom pieces! Jewelers like Gunderson’s Jewelers can re-create your grandmother’s old ring into a custom designed brand new ring! This not only gives you a new piece of jewelry, but it will have extra special meaning.

different colors, sizes and shapes. You can even try making them on your own to save a little money. You can hang them from the ceiling, trees branches or use them to dim any over-head lighting. They can help create a magical setting for your special event.

Luxury Bus: As wedding parties continue to grow in size, so does their mode of transportation! My Driver Limousine offers a 40 passenger luxury bus. This will definitely get your wedding party excited for your big day!

Why Attend a

?

Bridal Showcase M

ost girls grow up dreaming about their wedding day. When that magical moment happens and prince charming slips a ring on your finger, you immediately beam with excitement. It has finally happened… you are getting married! This should be a piece of cake, right? Once reality sets in the stress of planning can get in the way of the excitement. Bridal shows are a great option for any bride-to-be. Whether you know exactly what you are looking for, or need help generating ideas, this is one stop you shouldn't miss! Go ahead and be picky about your wedding plans; you deserve the wedding of your dreams. Whether you are looking to solidify major details such as selecting your ceremony or reception sites, or all those finer details such as decorations and invitations, bridal shows offer you a one-stop shopping experience. The GonnaGetWed Bridal Showcase, held twice annually, is nationally-accredited and offers the area’s largest and finest selection of wedding service providers. You can expect to see all sorts of bridal companies: photographers, DJ’s, reception facilities, caterers, cake makers, dress shops, tuxedo rentals, videographers, limos, hair dressers, makeup artists, jewelry companies, invitation designers, florists, musicians, gift registries, party suppliers, travel agents and more. Make the most of your visit to the bridal show by interviewing possible vendors you still need to book. You will be able to compare prices, products and personalities of the consultants, samples of their work and even make reservations that day. With any luck, you can get some of your wedding plans out of the way. But be aware that most service providers require a deposit upon reservation. Take your time and talk to everyone, and make sure you have your checkbook ready in case you find the perfect fit! Don’t be afraid to ask for referrals or a list of previous customers from the wedding vendors you are considering; then check out those references thoroughly.

If a company refuses to provide a list or indicate that they do not have references available, proceed with caution. Make sure to view several samples of their work, then if you feel completely comfortable, you could still book their services. How better to help get your wedding details underway than by receiving free gifts. Bridal shows offer couples the opportunity to win valuable door prizes worth thousands of dollars. To make registering for those prizes easy, bring along return address stickers so you do not have to fill out numerous entry slips. If you’re lucky you may even win a free honeymoon package. Organizing your wedding can be a huge job, so arm yourself with your most trusty girlfriends and head to the GonnaGetWed Bridal Showcase. Make sure you go with an open mind, don't forget your address labels, and most importantly, have fun! ❤

hen trying to fill the “something old” portion of the traditional saying on your wedding day, vintage is a perfect avenue to turn to. Vintage jewelry and accessories will provide unique accents to your wedding that offer a distinctive look. Vintage accents can be great for your attire or your décor. A good place to start when searching for that perfect necklace, bracelet, hairpiece, veil, ring, centerpiece or decoration is the Benson’s Flea Market. This market offers a wide variety of vintage items, jewelry and accessories. It has a rummage-style set up with unlimited opportunities for finding that perfect piece. Vintage jewelry is also the perfect bridesmaid gift and will accent their gowns wonderfully. Another great place to look for unique vintage wear is your grandma’s attic. Your grandma, great aunts and mother may have years of “stuff ” stored away just waiting for you to rescue it! Other places to look for vintage items are rummage sales, thrift stores, antique shops and online auction sites.

all of your family members in antique frames around the reception. When it comes to vintage the ideas are endless and will showcase your creativity. The more creative your wedding is, the more you’re going to impress your guests. So don’t be afraid to use vintage and other creative ideas to bring your wedding to the next level. Vintage shopping will save you money on jewelry, accessories and décor, allowing you to spend more elsewhere! Happy thrifting! ❤

Vintage cake toppers can be very eye-catching and the perfect way to top your cake. To match the topper, consider buying a vintage cake knife and server. For another great accent, purchase vintage Candelabras. When placed on mirrors with candles they will set a warm, cozy mood for your wedding reception. For the final touch, continue the vintage theme by placing black and white photos of you and your husband and

Wedding Planning and Social Media

W

eddings have always been a social event, but nowadays they are social in a whole new way. Before we had blogs and websites, brides clipped images from magazines and used to place them in folders to show to their vendors. Now, blogs and forums have made it easy to research for a particular topic and you can even meet other people going through the same experience at the same time. Lover.ly & Pinterest: Lover.ly is a new visual search engine and virtual scrapbook for wedding inspiration. It began not very long ago and already has 2.5 million visitors. It is very similar to Pinterest, but while weddings are only one category on Pinterest, Lover.ly is focused only on bridal. Either one could be a great inspirational board for your imagination! Facebook: Since your guests, family members and everneeded bridesmaids are, undoubtedly, spread all over the country, what better way to contact them then through the most visited site on the web—Facebook. Want to get everyone on the same page? Set up a Facebook event for the big day. It’s easy, effortless, and a quick way for guests to find information. Keep them updated on exciting additions you’ve made to the event, post your engagement pictures for all to enjoy, and ask for suggestions or referrals if you’re having trouble finding a photographer, caterer, etc. Don’t be afraid to really dive in and ask for help. Chances are they’ll want to be involved.

Visit the Facebook, Twitter and YouTube sites of businesses you are interested in for your wedding. You can view photos, videos, special offers and sometimes testimonials from other customers. You can post any concerning questions you have too. These sites are great because you can form an objective opinion from the reviews without leaving the comfort of your home.

Taking & Your Husband's Name? Mr. Mrs. W

omen do not automatically change their last name once they get married. In fact, more professional young women are keeping their maiden name. The main reason for opting out of a name change stems from their professional life. Because women are waiting longer to get married, many of them have worked hard to establish a “name” for themselves and do not want to lose that identity once they get married.

Whether you choose to take your husband to be’s last name or not can be a heated topic, so approach it carefully. Consider all the pros and cons of the change. One of the biggest reasons brides take his last name has to do with children. Women do not want to feel like their family is split having different names as their children. In the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s there was a rise in the number of women hyphenating their last name. However in recent years this trend has seemed to lose some steam. Some women who may be the last of the family lineage opt to keep their father's last name to carry on the name of the family. In these cases, it is not uncommon to see the children also named after the bride’s last name. Changing your last name may be a lot of work to file all the papers and change all your accounts, but in the end each bride must decide if changing her last name is right for her.

• Social Security Card: Contact the Social Security

Administration at (800) 772-1213. An automated system will talk you through the name change process. Or just head down to the local office and file paperwork there.

• Driver’s License: Visit the Department of Motor Vehicles, which requires you to make a personal appearance. You will need your new social security card or your certified marriage license. • Fill in the Blanks: Once you have a social security card and driver's license in your married name, other changes should be fairly easy. Some institutions only require a phone call; others may ask for a copy of your marriage certificate or social security card. Be sure to notify: employers, post office, phone company and other utilities, banks/financial institutions, credit card companies, voter registration, schools and alumni associations.

• Don't forget about theses important documents

as well: mortgage or lease, will, insurance policies, financial advisors and passport (Do not do change your passport before the wedding. Your passport name must match the name on your ticket and all other travel documents! It's easier to take your honeymoon with your maiden name.) ❤

- GonnaGetWed.com Resource

If you decide to take your new hubby’s name , you must make it official. Contrary to popular belief, obtaining a marriage license that uses your new last name does not mean you've changed it. Start with your Social Security card and driver's license so that the rest are easy to change. Here's a list of the basic steps to solidify your new name.

• Get Proof: Get your certified marriage license; be sure it has a raised seal to prove it's authentic. Call the office where your license was filed to get copies if they are not automatically mailed.

Cutting Your Wedding Guest List W

hen it comes to weddings, there is one thing that will almost always present difficult, frustrating, or downright awkward situations – The Guest List. Since it’s impossible to please everyone, finalizing your guest list may feel like an impossible task. In theory, “the more the merrier” would be great for a wedding… But, unfortunately, there’s such a thing as the bill. So, if you’d rather not host an extremely expensive event, not everyone will be able to attend. Eventually you’ll have to make some cuts, and when that time comes, here are a few things to consider.

1. Are you issuing the invitation out of obligation? Just

because someone invited you to their wedding does not mean you are required to invite them to yours.

2. Would you spend a great deal of money on this person

and/or want to spend that much time with them?

3. If you no longer speak to this person in 15 years,

would you look back on your wedding day and think “I’m really glad they were there for my wedding?” If you wouldn’t feel this way, chances are they’re not that important to your big day.

4. Are you inviting this person because you really

want them to attend, or just because other guests want them there? Couples will often invite friends

PREPARATION AND PLANNING 18

of friends to their weddings when they are not close to them. Just because their presence may make some of your friends happy is not enough of a reason to invite them. The day is about YOU and if you’re already not that close, could not inviting them really make it worse?

5. Would you care if they didn’t show up? If you don’t think you would notice or mind if they didn’t attend, don’t invite them!

6. And when it all comes down to it, is your wedding (one of the most important days of your life) really something you feel the need to share with this person?

Make sure to really consider these points when deciding who will attend your big day. And when it comes to delivering the news, an honest answer is best – “We would love to invite everyone, but we had to make cuts to our list.” This is always better than using a line like “It’s just family and close friends” or “We’re having a small wedding.” These statements can be hurtful if the person finds out they were not the truth. Just remember that your wedding is about you, and some people will simply have to accept that. Good luck and happy cutting! ❤

Making a Marriage

Doesn't Have to Feel Like a Chore

T

he marriage-saving phenomenon that started it all!... Dr. Gary Chapman uses reallife examples from over thirty years of marriage counseling to illustrate the five distinct languages people use to express love. You’ll understand why you feel the way you do and you’ll acquire indispensable methods for helping your spouse feel loved. The 5 Love Languages can breathe life into your marriage. Dr. Chapman’s book may be the answer for understanding your significant other’s emotions, feelings and overall attitude. Chapman says, “Being sincere is not enough. We must be willing to learn our spouse’s primary love language if we are to be effective communicators in love.” Chapman’s book goes on to explore the five ways that people speak and understand love. Gary believes, “The important thing is to speak the love language of your spouse.” To speak clearly to your spouse, you need to understand his or her love language. This book will help you communicate in an effective manner that will lead you to a successful and satisfying marriage. Seeking guidance during an unhappy marriage is key to conflict resolution and this book will give you the necessary tools to understand and resolve your differences.

Wedding Insurance P

urchasing wedding insurance is not a sign that you have cold feet. Instead it could be a sensible investment to protect the details you have planned since childhood. The insurance will cover some or all of the fees if your wedding venue closes, a vendor cancels or bad weather hits, depending on the coverage you choose. Before purchasing insurance, be sure to check to see if your ceremony and reception site is insured and if your wedding vendors are already well covered. Wedding insurance may also include sickness or injury to the bride, groom or anyone essential to the wedding. Depending on the policy, wedding insurance could pay for postponing your wedding including those non-refundable deposits. Wedding liability insurance might be a wise investment, if your wedding party tends to be a little wild. From broken tables and damaged carpet

PREPARATION & PLANNING

to smashed DJ equipment, you will pay if your guests caused the damage. Whether you have insurance or not, read your contracts carefully and walk through the event before it is decorated. Make a note (and camera phone photos) of any damage. Liability insurance will pay for any damage caused by your wedding reception. Insurance can be expensive, but so is your wedding. There is a balance between the cost and the return that is different for each bride. It costs you nothing to price out insurance policies. Contact your favorite insurance agent and do independent research. Together, with your fiancĂŠ and your parents (if they are paying), you can decide if there is a policy that is right for your wedding. Just remember, wedding insurance will not cover cold feet or a change of heart. â?¤

Vendor Information Questions to ask all vendors you hire for your wedding, big or small! ❤ Do you have liability insurance? ❤ Is there a deposit due and when? ❤ When is the balance due? ❤ What is the cancellation policy? ❤ Do you accept credit cards? ❤ How do you handle unforeseen issues? ❤ Do you have a backup plan if something goes wrong on our wedding day?

General Vendor Hiring Hints ❤ Ask friends and family to recommend service providers and venues that were satisfactory. ❤ Talk to your friends who were recently married. They are an excellent source of knowledge. ❤ The first question to ask potential service providers: Do you have my date open? This will save you time and energy if they do not. ❤ Meet with several vendors in each category before you hire any particular one, even if you really loved the first one you met. ❤ Be sure to conduct an interview with a potential vendor, regardless if you have several great referrals for him or her. Your personalities might clash, indicating a wrong fit for you. ❤ Ask for a tour, samples, demos, previews, pictures and referrals from all your vendors before they are hired. Don’t just take their word for it. ❤ Once you find a vendor you want… don’t wait, book them!

General Contract Guidelines ❤ Look over the entire contract. If you don’t understand something, ask them! If you have an

attorney, you may want them to review the larger contracts. ❤ Make sure your contracts all have the date, time, location and a detailed description of all services and items to be provided by the vendor. ❤ Make sure the contract includes ALL fees and how they apply: late fees, overtime charges, gratuities, open-ended charges, etc. Also make sure they include times, if time sensitive, and try to put a cap on prices if they could get out of control. ❤ Contracts must stipulate the deposit amount, due date and all payments and amounts due. ❤ Do not sign if you do not agree with any part of the contract. Instead, negotiate the details and have a new contract drafted that you feel comfortable signing. ❤ Make sure you get a copy of the contract before you leave with both signatures and the date singed.

The finishing touches...

Your Hair & Makeup! O

n your wedding day your hair and makeup are the finishing touches that will make you sparkle. Leaving those details for the last minute may end up in disaster. Set up a consultation with the person styling your hair several months before your wedding. Ask your stylist what they recommend for treatments that add strength and/or shine for the wedding day, such as protein treatments so your hair can hold curl all day. If you want softness or shine, a moisture treatment might be recommended. Consider the overall look and feel you are going for when deciding on your hair and makeup. They should match the tone of the wedding; romantic, trendy, natural or formal. Always bring a photo of your gown to your consultation. This will allow the stylist to compliment the style of your dress. Believe it or not, your hair can accentuate or make your gown look out of place! Smooth textured gowns call for a soft smooth hair style; while more romantic dresses with lace go better with medium texture and soft movement.

The trend for specialty styling seems to be wearing hair down to show off the length, texture and health of your hair. The wedding location is another important factor to consider when choosing your hairstyle. Hair for an outdoor wedding is best with natural movement. You may not want to worry about your hair being out of place if a breeze comes up. If your hair moves with the breeze, it can look great in photos! Hair for an indoor, evening wedding can have more structure and elegance without the worry.

Be sure to bring photos of your headpiece, veil and any hair accessories you plan to incorporate into your hairstyle. If you have the actual pieces, those are best! The Studio I Do

28

During your pre-wedding consultation, perform a trial-run on the hairstyle itself. It is a great idea to take a few photos of yourself in the dress with your trial-run hairstyle. Do the textures compliment? Do you like the style of your dress with your hair up or left down? The volume and elegance of your hair may seem too big or too much until you try your dress on. Take photos of your hair. You may use the photos on the big day to show your stylist any changes you want to make. Photos by

Doing one pre-wedding makeup consultation is also recommended. Wedding day makeup is a must for every bride, even if you don’t like regularly wearing much makeup. Whether you plan to book a professional makeup artist or do your own makeup for your wedding, consider the style of your day, the colors chosen as accents and most importantly, your skin tone. Choose colors that compliment your skin.

Your makeup should enhance your beauty but not change your appearance. Focus on either your eyes or on your lips and underplay the other with more neutral tones. Don’t overdo it; keep it soft and natural. Be sure to prepare your skin in advance by exfoliating and moisturizing regularly.

SMOKE

your look!

B

rides are changing. Today’s trends are contemporary and urban, and that is why smokey eyes are such a beautiful, modern bridal look. The days when brides had to choose between two looks for their wedding are gone. Now, brides can be more adventurous and start having fun with their make up! Smokey eyes are not just a nighttime look anymore. With this universal look, it doesn’t matter what skin tone or eye color you have, there’s a smokey look for everyone. So here are a few tips to achieve the perfect smokey eye on your wedding day:

1. Prepare the lid

The key to keeping eyeshadow from melting into your eyelid crease as the day goes on is to keep eyelids oil-free. To do this, start with an eyeshadow base or primer. Swipe it across the eye and let it dry before you continue to the next step.

2. Apply eyeliner

If you’re going for a typical black, brown or gray smoky eye, apply liner in one of those colors above the upper lash line, drawing the line thicker in the middle of eye. If you’re opting for a jewel-toned eye, line eyes with a purple, blue or deep green eye liner.

3. Blend in color on bottom lashes

For color on the bottom of your eyes, use an eyeliner pencil, because they’re easiest to smudge. Once the line is drawn, run your finger over it to smudge the line. You can also apply a bit of shadow to get full smudge effect.

4. Apply light base color

Sweep a light, shimmery shadow over the lids to your brow bone.

30

The Studio I Do

5. Blend the darker color

Be sure to keep the dark color below the crease. Using an eyeshadow brush, blend in color starting at your lash line, blending up. Make sure to blend color into the lash line so the eye liner disappears. Stop the deep color your at crease. The key here is to blend, blend, blend!

6. Double-check your work

Make sure both eyes match, and blend the colors with a Q-tip if needed.

7. Top it off with mascara

You’ll want to finish the look by applying a few coats of mascara so lashes are thick and dark. ❤ - GonnaGetWed.com Resource

Smart Tips for Wedding Weight Loss

W

ith all eyes on you, there’s no better time to look your best than on your wedding day. For the busy bride, the process of planning and organizing every wedding detail can make staying fit and healthy seem impossible. If you are having trouble getting motivated, or if you’re just not getting the results you’d like, try these simple health and fitness tips. Along with the proper exercise and diet, they’ll jump start your wedding weight loss before you know it. However, it is important to remember that weight loss not only takes time, but patience too. So start dieting and exercising months before your wedding to ensure healthy, stable results!

Set Smart Goals – Make

sure your goals are specific, measurable, and realistic. Having a structured weight loss plan will keep you much more consistent, but don’t aim for unrealistic goals. Trying to lose too much weight too quickly can also be a health hazard if your body is not able to get its essential nutrients.

Get Good Peer Pressure – Friends are crucial

during this time and can make or break your fitness plan. Make sure that they are supportive of your goals and recruit a few pals to take on the challenge with you. Since you’re preparing for the same event, your goals will be aligned. It might not be a bad idea to get your future husband on board with you too!

Drink Lots of Water – Your recommended daily water intake is half your body weight in ounces (if

you weigh 140 pounds you should drink 70 ounces a day). Staying hydrated keeps your metabolism up and gives you the necessary fuel for workouts.

Sneak in a Workout – Getting an effective

workout to fit into your schedule is easier than you think. You can burn extra calories all the time, regardless of what you’re doing. Try working out your abs while you watch TV. Another thing to try is alternating between contracting your abs and glutes for 60 seconds while you’re in the car, sitting at your desk or even standing in line.

Get Enough Sleep – One of the biggest reasons people gain or fail to lose weight is because of lack of sleep – think college years! When you’re not rested, hormones that regulate how full you feel become unbalanced and tell you that you’re hungry. To keep them in check, aim for seven to eight hours of undisturbed sleep each night. Keep a Food Journal – Simply jot down when

you’re finding it hard to get to the gym or resist a craving. Writing down these feelings will help you move past them and get back on track. Also, write down what you eat if you’re trying to shed a few pounds. Studies show people have more success with weight loss if they track their meals and snacks. The big thing to remember is that sticking to a healthy lifestyle takes the moral support of both you and your new partner. You both need to encourage and motivate each other so you both can look your best on your special day! ❤

Bridal BOOT CAMP O

nce you find the dress of your dreams, be sure you put forth the effort necessary to ensure you will look your very best in it. You will want to focus on and play up the assets that your dress will show off. In addition to your regular healthy diet and cardio program, try adding these specific exercises to your regimen. Each exercise should be done 3 times a week in sets of 10 reps and 4 sets per day.

Halter, strapless and open back dresses will feature your upper back. Tone those muscles including lats, traps, rhomboids and deltoids by trying the dumbbell raise. Grasp the dumbbells with your arms in front of you, palms facing your body. Slowly raise the dumbbells up until your arms are straight out in front of your chin. Lower slowly and repeat. (Fig. 1) Gowns with straps or plunging or sweetheart necklines will draw attention to your chest. Those muscles include your pecs and deltoids. Try doing a dumbbell chest press. Lie flat on the floor with your arms forming an “L” shape. Extend arms upward until arms are straight over your head and elbows are straight. Then lower using a controlled motion. (Fig. 2) Spaghetti straps, halter and strapless dresses all feature the arms and shoulders, including your biceps and triceps. The dumbbell shoulder raise will allow you to tone those areas. (Fig. 3) Hold the dumbbells with your arms bent at a 90 degree angle and palms facing your body. Lift your arms over your head until fully extended. Lower and raise again. Form-fitted, sheath, column, hourglass, mermaid and trumpet style dresses cling to the body, emphasizing the belly, butt and thighs. Your abs, obliques, quads, glutes and hamstrings are the focal points. (Fig. 4) The dumbbell lunge can work most of those areas. Holding the dumbbells straight at your sides, take a large step forward. Keep the back leg straight and bend the front leg as you descend as far as you can. Then step forward with the back foot now making this the front bent leg. For more exercise options, be sure to enlist the help of your local gym trainer and fitness experts. After all, if you are serious, nothing is better than having your very own bootie kicker coaching you all the way to your wedding day! ❤

Creating a H

Personal Tan Plan

ow many times do you wish you had a beautiful tan as you do your last minute preparations for a vacation, wedding or special event? A natural bronze glow makes you look good and feel great. Everyone wants a beautiful tan, but they often don’t know the best way to get that tan. Do you go for a natural tan or a spray tan? How long does it take to build a tan? Just as proper preparation is essential to running a successful 5k race, determining a tan plan based on your tanning goals and skin type is necessary to achieve the natural, radiant results you’re looking for. Let us help you discover your tan plan and get you ready to look good and feel great!

a beet extract in their solution; therefore, your spray tan looks natural and not orange. Spray tans typically last between five and seven days so it’s best to spray tan one to two days before your event. For best results, shower and exfoliate your skin prior to going to the tanning salon. The Versa Spa offers three different bronzing levels so that you can achieve the most natural looking tan for your skin type. Double bronzer is recommended for blonde hair, blue eyes and triple bronzer is recommended for dark hair, brown eyes. Double dip is the darkest bronzing level as you do two spray tans back to back. It is great for someone who already is naturally tan and desires more color.

I’m getting married in less than 60 days and then heading off to a tropical paradise for my honeymoon. Do I still have enough time to get a natural tan? Not only will a natural tan help you look great in your swimsuit but it will also help prevent major sunburn on your honeymoon vacation. Sixty days is the perfect amount of time to build and maximize a natural tan. Depending on your skin type it is going to take 6 - 12 tanning sessions to build a base tan and 1 - 3 sessions per week to maintain your tan. Using a good indoor tanning lotion will also make a huge difference in your tanning results. Tanning lotion prevents dry skin, helps you tan 40-60% faster and extends the life of your tan.

Is it okay if I mix tanning in a bed and spray tanning? Of course! In fact, many people call it their tanning cocktail! Try using a stand-up bed after doing a spray tan. The stand-up bed will help your body absorb the bronzing solution and increase your tan for optimal results. Mixing a spray tan into your normal tanning routine is also a great way for an extra shot of color.

I’m going to be in a wedding this weekend and I’m white as a ghost! How can I get a tan quickly? A spray tan is a perfect way to achieve a natural looking tan in just a few minutes. Versa Spa is the number one rated spray tan booth. Why? Because they use

What are the benefits of UV exposure? The most obvious benefit of UV exposure whether it be from the sun or indoors is that a tan is the body’s natural protection against sunburn. UV exposure also helps improve skin disorders such as acne and psoriasis. Many of us also unknowingly suffer from SAD, or seasonal affective disorder. SAD is an episode of depression that occurs at a certain time of year, usually during winter. Small amounts of UV exposure can help lift your mood and also increase the vitamin D levels in your body. ❤ Will you travel? Are there additional fees? ❤ Will you stay to help me with my hair, veil, headpiece and make-up touch-ups after the ceremony? At what additional cost?

❤ How long will it take and what is the fee? ❤ If you are not at the wedding, can you provide me with hair products and makeup for quick fixes?

❤ Do you bring your own equipment and hair products?

Advice at a Glance! ❤

Choose a hairstyle you are comfortable with. You want to look like yourself on your wedding day.

Plan a practice for your hair and makeup to make sure you like the style and colors. Once completed, take photos of the final look so you can refer to them on your day.

Take it easy on the tan. Don’t try to cram in two months of tanning in one week. For spray on tanning have your last treatment at least one week prior to the wedding.

Don’t make drastic changes to your body right before your wedding. Don’t starve yourself or resort to crash dieting. Instead opt for a 4-6 month exercise routine.

Don’t get a brand new haircut before your wedding; just get a trim a few weeks before.

Prepare a reasonable weight loss plan and stick to it! (A pound a week is the healthiest.)

Don’t have a facial or any other skin treatments within two weeks of your wedding. You want to have time for your skin to recover and you don’t want red blotchy skin.

Ask friends to work out with you. This will keep you motivated and on track.

Do not resort to drastic measures. Taking a dietary supplement may help you lose weight quickly but results will not be permanent.

Eat smaller portions and incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet to keep you satisfied.

Zit Zapper: use a concealer one shade lighter than your skin tone under foundation.

For sexy legs, soak in a bath for several minutes to soften hair. Then use a moisturizing shaving gel and shave in the opposite direction of hair growth.

❤ 38

The morning of your wedding, wear a button-down shirt or a dress that can be slipped down over your hips. Do not wear clothing that you will have to pull over your head. You don’t want to mess up your hair and makeup. If you are having your makeup professionally done, purchase or ask for samples so that you’ll be able to do touch ups throughout the day. Carry a supply of blotting tissues so you can keep the shine off your nose and forehead.

Unique Ideas for A

Bridal Showers

bridal shower is one of those parties that are fun and practical at the same time. The Maid of Honor normally hosts the party so, if you have that privilege and still don’t have any clue of what you are going to do, here are some ideas that might save your day (and the bride’s!)

1. Get fun bridal shower invites - Get original! There are thousands of modern invites that you can use for this kind of party. If you want to see some really good options for this, we have a lot of local vendors that will be more than happy to help you!! Just visit GonnaGetWed.com and start planning! 2. Create your own perfume bar - It is known

that humans can remember more things through smells than through other senses. You can set up a bar of oils and pretty perfume bottles so your guests can create their very own scent! There are DIY perfume kits that you can buy with customizable scent options to make your party unforgettable!

3. Frozen yogurt buffet - You can rent a frozen yogurt machine and set out a buffet of toppings, from candies and cereal to fresh chopped fruit, and have a dessert that’s delicious to eat and fun to create. 4. Colorful juice stand - A whole bar of cocktails is a treat for the eyes and the taste buds. Set up a bevy of colorful beverages in vintage glasses. Stock them with fresh fruit and decorate it with hanging signs to label each flavor. Don’t forget to use the bride’s colors!! 5. Give out useful gifts - Give your girls a

gift they’ll actually use! Canvas totes are stylish and practical -- stuff them with extras that fit the party theme (bottles of wine, flower seed packets, perfume, beach towels…). You can even have them monogrammed and personalized! Just remember that a bridal shower is about having fun and building excitement for the wedding, so don’t worry about what’s proper or popular. If you enjoy the theme, so will everyone else. ❤

Tips forYour Wedding Gift Registry

Don’t Register Too Early

Stores change inventory sometimes every quarter, so by registering too early, means some items will no longer be available. Most guests will buy your gift a few weeks prior. If you don’t need anything…ask for money!

Register Together

Take an inventory of what you both have and what you will still need. Register together, and if one of you has a sticky finger, pass the scanner to your partner. Only register for those must haves.

Keep It Small

Try to avoid filling your list with things you’re never going to use. By keeping your list smaller, you will get the things you really want. Or when the items are all purchased, you will most likely get cash!

Opt For Gift Cards

Cash is great, but for those not sure how to go about asking for it, consider the more etiquette-friendly option… gift cards! Many stores allow you to register for them. This is a great alternative for those that are not sure what to register for.

Show Your Thanks

Being gracious goes a long way. Always let your guests know their gifts have arrived within a few days. A quick email or phone call is good but you still want to send a thank-you note within two weeks of their arrival. Other thank-you’s for gifts, assistance, etc. should be sent within a month after your wedding day. ❤

- GonnaGetWed.com resource

What’s The Return Policy?

Always ask about the store's exchange/return policies. You don’t want to be stuck after the wedding with 5 sets of the same glasses. There are generally time lines as to when exchanges can be made, so get those returns done as soon after the wedding as possible.

Register With A Range Of Prices

Every guest will have a different budget to spend on your wedding gift. Try to find an assortment of items that start at $25. If you hit all the price points $50, $75, $100, $200 and above, your guests will all have options.

Make Them Available Online

At least one (and preferably all) of your gift registries should be available online. Guests will love to see the items and make purchase from stores that are not available to them.

Update Your List

When a guest buys a gift for you, your registry should automatically update, allowing other guests to see what’s been purchased. That is, if they turn in the registry sheet upon checkout. After your showers, you should login and remove those items that you have already received. PARTIES, GIFTS & MORE

Cooking-Themed Bridal Shower

Y

ou have been busy planning all of the details for your wedding day, but what about once the wedding is over? One thing that might be a shock for new brides is cooking no longer solely for one, but preparing meals for your new husband as well!

.com Established in 1993

For those rookie chefs, this can be intimidating. You want to be able to cook meals for him that will be just as good as mom’s, if not better! A great way to prepare for this is to hold a cooking themed bridal shower! Not only will you get the skills you need to create some delicious meals for your husband, but you will also have fun with all of your bridal party! There are many different ways to create a cooking themed bridal shower, but consider the following: • If you have a friend/family member that is a great chef, ask them if they wouldn’t mind hosting. This would be comfortable and personable, as well as cost efficient! • Consider booking a party at your local cooking store. Many offer a variety of courses to suit your skill level and provide you the formal tips and tricks you are looking for! You can have fun with the party favors as well! Think about giving food favors with flavor infused sugars and salts that your guests can use in their own kitchen. It would also be fun to have homemade packaged spices and seasoning that you decorate with your wedding colors and tie ribbons with homemade labels on them for a personal touch. Plum’s Cooking Co. offers wedding-shower cooking classes that are fun and gives everyone an opportunity to see what is on the bride’s registry! ❤ - GonnaGetWed.com resource

Be practical Y

Be personal

our go-to girls have helped you with every last little detail: It’s your brother, your mom... and maybe even your dad. How could you ever say thank you enough? When choosing the right gift, remember the most thoughtful and appreciative gifts are always personalized. At Personal Stitch we see a lot of unique gift ideas from brides just like you that we thought we’d share.

For the Bridesmaids: Garment bags can

be monogrammed for bridesmaids’ dresses, and brides can give wristlets with bridesmaids’ initials along with a free drink ticket and lip gloss inside personalized makeup bags. Brides can also choose from “Team Bride” hoodies and tote bags for all their ‘stuff ’ on the big day, as well as personalized beach towels that are great for destination weddings. They can also choose from soft or satin personalized robes.

PARTIES, GIFTS & MORE

For the Groomsmen: There are camping

chairs with nicknames and coolers filled with their favorite beverages, and golf towels with a fake golf tournament name like Smith/Olsen Golf Classic 2013. Other options include personalized hunting vests and personalized hats of their favorite major league team. There are gun cases, initialed toiletry bags, and monogrammed Duffle bags with a gym membership included.

For Others: You could give handkerchiefs with

a personalized message, or a piano bag for your pianist, kid‘s pillowcases with a cute message (i.e. “Princess of the Petals” or “King of the Bling”). You could create a children’s goody bag filled with crackers, crayons & Cheerios to keep them busy during pictures. You could also get boxers for your groom that say, “Bride’s Property.”

And for You: You can also get gifts for yourself, like a new zip-up hoodie that will help preserve your hairdo. You could also update your grandmother’s old hankie by monogramming it with your new initials (in blue of course).

Advice at a Glance! ❤

Gifts for your bridesmaids may be presented at the bridesmaids’ luncheon, the rehearsal dinner or before the wedding as everyone is getting ready.

The groom gives presents to his groomsmen at the bachelor party or rehearsal dinner.

Gifts for attendants may be the same or different. However, if they are all the same you might want to consider personalizing them.

46

Gifts for child attendants are either taken care of by the bride or given by the bride and groom as a couple. These gifts can either be given before the ceremony or at the rehearsal dinner. Give your parents their gifts at a time when you are alone together so it is more personal and special.

If you and your groom wish to exchange gifts, you can do so the night before the wedding or on your wedding night. Consider doing this alone as it will feel more intimate.

The earlier you register, the better. Your close friends and family may want to purchase engagement gifts for you. Be sure to check your registry often for discontinued items.

Call before going to a store to register because some stores may require an appointment.

Give yourself plenty of time when registering because it can be time-consuming.

Don't Forget

the

Photo Provided by BBB Lodge

W

ith all of the chaos finally being over, it’s easy to enjoy having your free time back and getting caught up in your new life as a married couple. However, you absolutely cannot forget to thank your guests for all of their generosity! Don’t think that you were the only one who was stressed out with the wedding planning! Here are a few tips to writing thank you notes that are appropriate and appreciative. Timing is everything! - Don’t wait too long to send the thank you note! You should be writing thank you notes within the same month as the wedding. For gifts you received at other times like your bridal shower, you should send a note within two weeks. Electronic thank you’s are not appropriate NEVER send an email or a text saying thank you for your wedding gifts. All of your thank you’s need to be hand written and personalized. The reader needs to know the note was intended just for them. Be creative with your stationery - You may want to choose stationery that went along with the

50

theme of your wedding. Use your wedding colors to re-create your wedding in your thank you notes. Don’t be afraid to use colored envelopes either! Do not specify dollar amounts - If you received money from some of your guests don’t ever put the amount in the card. Simply say the thank you for their gift and also mention what you plan on doing with it. Maybe you are re-modeling your new house or plan on buying new furniture, etc. Don’t forget to thank people for their time! - Your best friend may have been just as stressed as you throughout the wedding planning process. Don’t forget to thank her for not only her gift but for all of her time and hard work… and for putting up with all of the crazy moments. Saying thank you is very simple but it is also very important! You must remember to be appreciative for all the gifts, and time people gave you to help you with your big day! ❤

Invitations: nature inspiration C

olor trends for 2013 are very diverse! Continuing in popularity this year is honeysuckle and all variations of pink. Other bright bold colors continuing to gain popularity are orange, green and yellow. It might seem drab on its own, but gray is becoming a popular choice for brides to use as a complimentary color. It is a great compliment to a wide variety of other color choices. In contrast, pastels, including Tiffany Blue, sage, and shades of lilac are also expected to be in high demand. Natural earthy tones, such as beige, driftwood and cool blues are becoming even more fashionable as well. Also, mint green is a classic color that can be mixed with a wide variety of hues to create weddings that are suitable for multiple seasons. Mint green and blush make a beautiful combination for a light and bright spring wedding.

INVITATIONS & STATIONERY

You can also choose your wedding colors from nature. There are so many beautiful colors in nature and they will definitely brighten up your big day! One way you can do this is by using the colors from your favorite fruit! There are so many amazing fruity colors from plum purple to cherry red to choose from, and they can also be great inspiration for your dĂŠcor. Adding texture to invitations is becoming all the rage. Invitations are being embellished with anything from ribbons, feathers, crystals, to dried flowers. In addition, layered invitations make the invitation colors more striking and add another dimension. The most important thing to remember is to be true to yourself when choosing colors and styles for your wedding. Colors and styles should be designed around your desires. â?¤

Questions to Ask! ❤ What are our options regarding the different pieces that make up the wedding invitation and how do they affect the cost?

❤ Can you print additional pieces to include with the invitations, such as a maps/direction cards and accommodation cards? ❤ What are our printing and paper options and how do they affect the cost?

❤ Can we see samples of different printing techniques, paper styles and type styles?

❤ When do we need to place an order? ❤ When would the invitations be ready?

❤ Is there an extra fee for addressing envelopes? ❤ Do we assemble the invitations and stuff envelopes ourselves?

❤ What is the difference in cost, if any, between ordering extra invitations up front or after the initial order has been placed?

❤ Will we be able to see a proof before any pieces are

printed? Do you do calligraphy? If you don’t, do you work with someone who does? Does he/she give discounts to your customers?

❤ If you do calligraphy: What are your fees? What do they include?

Advice at a Glance ❤ Try to order all stationery items at the same time. ❤ When ordering invitations, be sure to order extras for keepsakes, guests who get added to your list later and extra invitations needed because of mistakes made while addressing them.

❤ If you will be inviting a friend or family member to

bring a date but you do not know the date’s name, address the outer envelope to your friend only. On the inner envelope you can include the words “and Guest” after your friend’s or relative’s name.

❤ Registry information should be noted on the invitation or included in the envelope.

❤ The words “request the honor of your presence” are

traditionally reserved for religions ceremonies. Phrases like “request the pleasure of your company” or "would be delighted for you to attend” are typically used for a civil ceremony or reception.

❤ If you are unsure about the proper etiquette on

invitation wording, consult with your local invitation specialist for his/her recommendations especially where divorced families apply.

Finding the Perfect Dress!

A

s a newly engaged woman, one of the first things you’re probably thinking about is finding that perfect dress! You’ve dreamed of how you would look on this day forever and won’t settle for anything less than perfect. Here are some tips to help you find that dress you’ve been imagining for years: First and Foremost, Set a Budget! – Splurging on the dress is ok to do as long as you can afford it! You don’t want to have to cut back on other things down the road because you spent too much on your dress. Set a limit for the maximum amount you’re willing to spend on your dress and stick to it! Make Sure You’re Comfortable – There are hundreds of bridal gowns available, be sure you choose one that you’re comfortable in.

Photo Provided by Bridal Gallery

54

The dress may be absolutely stunning, but if you’re miserable in it you’ll be hating it by the end of the night. Keep in mind that gowns with lots of layers and beads tend to be very heavy! Don’t Overwhelm Yourself – If you go to 20 different bridal shops you won’t remember which dress was where or what you liked or didn’t like about each place. Start with visiting at least 3 bridal shops and see how that goes. If you haven’t found anything you like then try a few more. You don’t have to hit every shop in town! Choose Your Helpers Wisely – Not everyone has to love your dress as much as you do. Be sure you pick the people who are coming with you wisely. Everyone is going to have his or her own opinion but remember yours is the only one that matters! If allowed in the bridal store, it might not be a bad idea to bring a camera so you can look back at them later when you’re alone. Start Early! – Be sure to start early when shopping for your dress. You don’t want to wait too long and settle on the first dress that you find. You want to give yourself enough time to look at all your options. Also, don’t be afraid to try on styles you’ve never really been that fond of. You might be surprised how different styles look on you!

It is important to understand that a wedding dress should not always be trendy. It should be timeless and make you feel gorgeous. Don’t be afraid to try on different styles. It’s important so you can find the best fit. Ball Gown & Full Skirt - This style is your classic fairy tale princess gown. The bodice is tight and the skirt full. This style is great for taller brides and will successfully hide larger-sized hips. If you are a short or smaller figured bride, steer clear of this style as you can easily disappear in this full gown.

Ball Gown & Full Skirt

Pinup

Convertible

Convertible

Pinup – The execution of this look varies greatly with tight gathers at points, loose tucks or draped fabric. This skirt may be attached to almost any style of bodice. Shorter brides may not always achieve the desired impact of this look. Convertible – Many brides are now opting for a two-dress look on their big day. The convertible wedding gown is a traditional full ball gown with a cleverly placed detachable skirt transforming your full gown into a fun, party dress. Trumpet – This style is fitted through the hips. It flairs into a fuller skirt just above the knees. It is great for showcasing curves, but does not offer camouflage for someone who wants to hide their hips. Dropped – This dress sits below your natural waist and rests on your hips. Brides with an hourglass figure might consider this a great option.

Trumpet

Dropped

A-Line

Side Wrap

A-Line – A forgiving wedding dress silhouette, this style flairs out at your waist which will make shorter brides appear taller and help larger brides appear smaller. Side Wrap - A figure flattering gown, similar to the A-Line style that wraps a detail fabric overlay across the waist and/or bust creating a slim look through the waist and minimizing the bust line. ❤

Goodbye Traditional Veils...

Hello Headpieces!

C

lose your eyes and imagine a beautiful bride on her wedding day. Though everyone sees a different dress, and a different bouquet, it is hard to imagine a bride without her veil. It is the ultimate bridal accessory. Even in casual clothing, a woman can put on a veil, and instantaneously become a bride! Veils can be gorgeous, elegant, and classy, but they are also very typical. They are a very traditional bridal stamp that is slowly disappearing from the runways. If you are not the traditional bride, there are numerous alternatives to veils that allow you to let your personality shine through on your big day. New styles include unique and original headpieces! From vibrant florals to quirky bows, any bride can find a veil alternative that suits her personality best. Even if you want to wear a veil for the ceremony, you can consider finding something different to wear for the reception. Switching up your attire for the reception allows you to show more of your personality, and have two different and amazing looks on the best day of your life! Even top designers agree that it is important to not let trends dictate your veil or headpiece. After all, every bride is a princess and there are many options for veil alternatives to fit your personality and style the most. â?¤ - GonnaGetWed.com Resource

2013 Trends

Bridal Trends

2013 runway bridal trends see the continue of portrait back, more color, lace, return of the peplum, and convertible gowns. Every bride wants to feel sexy, romantic, and beautiful as she walks down the aisle. The portrait backs show bare skin with sheer tulle, lace appliquĂŠs, and keyhole accent.

Photo Provided by The French Door

Bridesmaid Trends The 2013 trends for bridesmaids still favor the wear-again dress. Interesting backs, necklines, varying hemlines and sash waistlines are being featured by the top manufacturers. Individuality is what today's bride is all about. They are choosing to have their maids select their own styles of the same color or different colors of the same style. The most popular colors for 2013 are teal, coral, navy, silver and, as always, black. - The French Door, Sioux Falls, SD

American brides are strong individuals of their own and the "must wear white" days are gone. New red and black gowns are being introduced thanks to Hollywood weddings. Diamond white and ivory with touches of color in flowers or sashes have been popular for the past few years. The fabric of choice has been lace and this trend will be even stronger in 2013. Slim, a-line, or mermaid silhouettes, plain or beaded lace are the top sought after styles. High fashion peplums are returning with some of the more forward designers. A peplum of the right proportion can give the bride a smaller looking waist.

The Perfect

Groom's Attire! W

ith all the hustle and bustle surrounding the choice of the wedding dress, veil, shoes, and makeup, it’s easy to overlook an equally important detail—what will the groom wear?

The groom may have a tuxedo or suit of choice he likes, but it is important that it matches the style of the wedding ceremony. Even if the bride and groom agree on the groom’s outfit, it is likely that neither one of them is especially knowledgeable about the specifics of wedding menswear. For this reason, it is extremely important to consult an expert. They can answer any questions, as well as bring to light whatever concerns have not yet surfaced. However, blindly obeying every suggestion is not advised either. It’s best to consider every opinion objectively, and the groom’s likes and dislikes should be the deciding factor. Regardless of the style, color or fit, it is recommended that the groom stand out from his groomsmen. This can be easily achieved by having the groomsmen wear ties that match the bridesmaid’s dresses while the groom wears one that corresponds with the bride. Having the groom wear a brighter or different color than the groomsmen in general will also do the trick. You could also vary the lapels, with the groom sporting satin lapels instead of the standard version on the groomsmen. With the right research, the perfect groom’s attire is right around the corner. ❤

Bridesmaids Dresses!

very bride has her own personal wedding vision. This vision starts with wearing a gorgeous gown while surrounded by the groom, father, mother, family and friends. After the initial snapshot vision, then the actual details of the attire gets a little blurry. Traditionally, brides have dressed their bridesmaids in the same style and color dress and their groomsmen in the tuxedo of her choice. However, this bridal vision has evolved into having the bridal party individually put together their own outfit while staying within guidelines set by the bride. This is done with the intent of making the bridal party feel comfortable, helping them save money, or allowing them the option to re-wear their outfit. Because they have earned their place in the bridal party, they deserve to be set apart from the guests. Coordinating their look will distinguish them. Here are some visions and how the bride harmonized her party.

These different dress styles stand out but the matching color completes a bridal feel. Matching silver shoes gave them an extra touch of coordinating style. Coordinating the groomsmen’s ties with aqua and ushers with purple brought the whole group together and distinguished everyone’s individual part of the wedding.

Gown

Honor the T

here was a time when etiquette would strongly dictate a certain tuxedo for a certain time of day – or that you weren’t allowed to bend the rules on how formal the tuxedo should be for the venue where your wedding would be held.

The only hard fast rule that applies today is that the groom needs to honor your gown by matching the style and formality. Everything centers around your gown. Here’s a few tips to ensure that your groom is truly honoring your gown – and honoring the importance of the moment when you both say, “I do”.

• If your gown is formal, full length and elegant with a long train and a mid to long veil Groom: Black or navy tuxedo with a bow tie (preferably white / ivory to match gown).

with no train and a short veil or no veil at all Groom: A tuxedo or a dark suit. • If your gown is short with no train and no veil Groom: A suit or possibly dress pants and a vest and tie or even a shirt with rolled up sleeves for a more casual look. Another great way to spice up the day if you’ve picked a more formal theme, but want to have some fun with the tuxedos, is to add some accessories that will only come out when you want them to – or at the reception – try these ideas! 1. Add colored socks and suspenders. 2. Choose a second vest to change into at the reception. 3. Bring a second tuxedo to change into at the reception.

• If your gown is elegant and full length with a mid to short train and a mid to short veil Groom: Black or colored tuxedo with a bow tie or a Windsor knot tie .

Honor the importance of this day, this moment and your gown by dressing your groom in something that truly shows he’s special and he cared enough to dress for the occasion.

• If your gown is simple and full length

TRASH

My Gown? T

his phenomenon involves one last photo shoot in your wedding gown after your big day. But instead of posing for proper photos, brides dress up to swim in their gowns, splash in mud, roll on the beach, blast them with paintballs and even burn them. Advocates say that it can add an artistic element to your wedding album, and it's also potentially therapeutic and can finally free you from pent up stress left over from planning your wedding. Many brides today do not feel retiring their wedding gowns to the closet or attic for eternity is a fitting tribute. Because most mother's do not understand this, many brides are opting not to share the details until after the fact. Instead these brides breathe new life into their gowns freeing their spirits and creating art in the process then ask for forgiveness later. The philosophy follows the adage, "Ask for forgiveness rather than permission." â?¤

Getting engaged is an exciting time in your life, and it is the beginning of a world of decisions to be made. When shopping for rings, couples today have some seemingly daunting choices before them. Whether your signature flair is modern-sleek or delicate-antique, there is also the practical decision of which metal is best for you. And gentlemen, it's not all about HER ring anymore. Grooms-to-be have more choices than ever before!

Tungsten is probably the most talked about alternative metal, with its hardness on the Mohs scale being a 9 out of 10. It is virtually scratch resistant and retains its finish indefinitely. Titanium is a light-weight choice for grooms.

Titanium rings, like tungsten, sport a masculine white-gray color and are available in a wide variety of designs and finishes.

Bridesmaids Jewelry Choosing Your Wedding A

s a bride, you may want include jewelry for your entire bridal party for the big day. One way to ensure that you’re bridal party’s overall look is a good fit for the day is to gift them their jewelry. When choosing bridal party accessories there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, the jewelry should complement the theme of the day. We all know that the right accessories can make an outfit, and you want it to help enhance the overall theme of the day. This can mean choosing more or less formal jewelry for your bridesmaids. Also, if you plan on giving jewelry to your bridesmaids as gifts, you might want to consider what will look good on each person individually. Maybe a necklace for one bridesmaid and earrings for another! It’s always important to remember that what might be flattering on one woman might be overwhelming on another.

72

Lastly, it is also important to make sure the jewelry is a good fit for the bridesmaid dresses. In other words, do the necklaces flatter the necklines of the dresses and is the overall look balanced? If a bridesmaid’s dress is simpler the jewelry can be a little bit flashier and if the dress is more detailed it is best to stick with simple jewelry. What About the Bride? The wedding band’s circular shape symbolizes never-ending love and it represents commitment to the bride. So, here are answers to some common questions that might come up as a bride chooses her wedding band. Should the wedding band match the engagement ring? It doesn’t have to! You can decide which style you like best and go with it! If they don’t match, you can always wear your engagement ring for special occasions or on your right hand as often as you like. How do you decide which style of ring is right for you? Your wedding band should match your personal style, and your lifestyle. It should be as comfortable as you need it to be. If you actively use your hands all day at work, make sure your ring won’t be in the way! Make sure to choose something more simple. How do you find a more unique wedding band? There are quite a few jewelers that are willing to help you design your own wedding band. Many of them are even online! You could also try personalizing your wedding band by engraving it with a personalized message. How will my ring fit into my budget? You want to have a stylish ring, but you also want it to fit into your budget. If this is the case, you might want to consider using less expensive metals for your wedding band. These include 14k yellow or white gold. How do I find the right jeweler? Get references and recommendations for jewelers near you, and visit the store to “window” shop for rings before you purchase anything. There is a lot to consider when choosing the perfect wedding band because you want to love this ring for the rest of your life! Let these questions steer you in the right direction and you cannot go wrong. ❤

Engraving your

Wedding Bands

W

hat is more romantic than looking inside your wedding band and seeing a personalized engraving with special meaning for you and your spouse? Your jeweler will be able to recommend the engraving process that will best meet your needs. There are a few methods currently being used in the marketplace. First, there is hand engraving done by an artisan engraver using a hand tool called a graver. It is not a perfect process and the results will depend on the quality and skill of the craftsman doing the work. Also, commonly used is machine engraving which is much more precise but usually limited to one row of words using up to 20 characters.

JEWELRY

Finally, a specialty process adapted to a not so new technology, called laser engraving, has opened up a whole new realm of possibilities for couples who are thinking of engraving their rings. Wedding bands are now being created with entire messages that are clearly readable and up to 225 characters long. This allows the ability to write whole passages on the inside of wedding bands. Currently, bridal couples are engraving civil vows, religious vows, love poetry, even Shakespearean sonnets. This sentimental and romantic addition to your wedding bands can forever be a reminder of the commitments made and adds a special touch to your wedding day. â?¤ - GonnaGetWed.com resource

Let's talk metal:

The most practical side of ring shopping

E

verybody has heard the sayings “diamonds are a girl’s best friend” and “a diamond lasts forever,” but have you ever thought about the metal into which the diamonds are set? Or how the style of ring that is chosen may affect the lifespan of a ring? Often times, the practical side of choosing one’s “forever ring” is overlooked, resulting in recurring problems, costly repairs and dissatisfied customers. Just like in every industry, jewelry also goes through trends and fads. From the newest designer engagement rings and wedding bands to the hottest trends in colored metals and colored diamond fashions, the possibilities seem almost endless! Knowing what styles you can see yourself wearing for a long time and the pros and cons of different metals can help to make your decision a little easier. The comparison chart below introduces some of the most commonly used metals and provides a

comparison to consider when purchasing your ring. The latest trend in engagement rings has been a micropavé vintage design usually set in either platinum or white gold. Micropavé is a type of setting where several small diamonds are set close together and held in by several small prongs. Though the look is exceptional, customers often fail to notice the future maintenance the ring is likely to need, which can become very costly. Though white gold still seems to be the favorite, yellow gold and two-tone combinations are making a huge comeback! The best advice – stick to what you like and feel most comfortable wearing, but be informed about your purchase and the possible maintenance the ring could require within the years to come. - The Diamond Room, Sioux Falls, SD

Tips for the

Groom

1. Choose a ring to fit your lifestyle: If you are very active and work with your hands make sure to choose a more durable band such as platinum. This will hold up better than other metals. Also, try to avoid a matte finish, which shows scratches.

Christina Kjar Photography

M

en are becoming less afraid of taking chances with their choice of men’s rings. New metals such as titanium and chrome are now being used more and more frequently to express personal style. Not only are these industrial metals a fun new look for guys, they are also a lot less expensive than gold and platinum. Diamonds have become popular with the men. No more shying away from the subtle sparkle! Generally the diamonds in men’s bands are much more understated than those in the women’s. They tend to be smaller in size and flush with the band creating a smooth exterior. While it is always great to have more options available, it can become overwhelming. Here are a few tips to remember when picking out your men’s ring:

Your Style Bands That Represent

www.Gundersons.com 76

2. Comfort is key: Make sure the ring you select is comfortable. Consider the shape of the ring and the ring width. Make sure the edges are smooth and not sharp. 3. Reflect your personal style: Make sure you have a ring that you love and reflects your personality. If you are a simple “no fuss” guy, a traditional gold band might work perfectly. If you want to stand out with a little something different, there are many options available to add a little flare. 4. Measurements: You will most likely be measured by the jeweler that you plan to purchase your ring from. If you plan on ordering your ring from an online site, there are reputable jewelers that have measuring guides you can print out to make sure that you order the proper size. 5. Timing: When should you buy your ring? Experts recommend that you should purchase your wedding band at least two months ahead of the wedding to allow for time to get the band fitted. So, take these five tips into consideration when choosing a men's wedding band, and you will be sure to end up with exactly what's right for him! ❤

Questions to Ask! ❤

How long does it take to order rings or do you have them ready to take home?

Can a ring be resized later or does the decoration on it prevent this?

Is there an additional charge to have a ring resized once it comes in?

Once we’ve decided what we want, will you show us sample arrangements?

What are the prices of the bands? Hers?/His?

Do you have loose diamonds to choose from?

Do you engrave?

If so, what is the cost and how long does it take?

If not, can you recommend a jeweler who engraves?

How much is the item(s) we like?

Advice at a Glance! ❤

Many couples choose to have their rings engraved on the inside with their initials, wedding date, a short phrase or something else that is meaningful to them.

Machine engraving is cheaper than hand engraving; however, the person that does the hand engraving makes a deeper cut which is a longer-lasting inscription.

Make sure to put in writing exactly what you want your inscription to say. Keep a copy for your records.

Brides shouldn’t wear a ton of jewelry on their wedding day; less is often more! Items to choose from include bracelets, earrings, necklaces and other rings. At most, pair only two of these items along with your wedding rings. If you choose to wear a necklace, it should be small and discreet, no longer than 14-16 inches and never low enough to emphasize cleavage. In addition, pearls shouldn’t be larger than the largest pearl on the wedding dress.

Rehearsal Made Easy! H

ere are a few tips to prepare you for your wedding ceremony rehearsal:

Start the rehearsal by lining the wedding party up where they will stand at the altar for the ceremony. • You can place markers on the floor so that everyone can find their exact point during the ceremony. Next, practice the recessional. • The bride and groom will leave first followed by the maid of honor with the best man, then the bridesmaids with the groomsmen. The parents of the bride exit immediately after the bridal party followed by the groom's parents. Make sure to keep everyone in line so you can come back in to practice the processional.

Finally, the bride walks down the aisle! • When the bride nears the front of the altar, the groom may take several steps toward her and offer his arm to escort her the rest of the way. • The bride’s escort will then be seated. The officiant will then run through the order of the ceremony followed by the recessional. Tip: To enhance your ceremony, go against the norm and switch the guest sides so the bride’s friends and family are seated opposite her, and vice versa with the groom’s side. This allows everyone to see the face of his or her loved one throughout the ceremony! ❤

- GonnaGetWed.com Resource

Run though the processional. • The immediate family members are seated before the processional. First, the groom’s grandparents enter, followed by the bride’s grandparents, groom’s parents, and the bride’s mother. The groom would typically be at the front of the church before the seating of family members begins. • Next, the bridal party will walk down the aisle. It’s up to you to decide the order that your bridal party will be in. You can have the bridesmaids walk down the aisle first, followed by the groomsmen, or the party walking as couples. • Have everyone spaced at least 20 feet away from the next person, and remind them to walk slowly!

edding favors are small gifts that are tokens of appreciation to the guests from the bride and groom; it’s a thank you for attending the wedding ceremony. Choosing your wedding favors for your big day may be a bit overwhelming, but keep in mind that there’s no right or wrong way to go.

Choose a budget First, decide how much you are able to spend on favors. Some are more expensive than others, especially if you’re ordering personalized gifts. If you do not have a large budget for favors consider making your own!

Guest Book Alternatives T

he traditional signing of a guest book is great but it doesn’t allow for much creativity or sentimental writings. Here are some creative ideas for you to go beyond the guest book and help you preserve the memory of your wedding for years to come!

Non-Traditional Guest Book: If you like the idea of having a guest book, just not the “sign on the line type” you can buy a blank book and insert a photo of you and your husband on every page. Each guest can then sign around the photo and leave little notes and comments for you too! Guest Book Ad Libs: You can create a homemade Ad Lib, where your guests can fill in adjectives, adverbs, nouns etc. to create an interesting and unique guest book entry.

the wall of your new home to have a meaningful reminder of your wedding day all the time. Guest Book Tree: Ask guests to write not just their signatures, but words of good wishes, a piece of advice or even just a congratulation on personalized cards. Place a small tree on a table near the area guests will be arriving. Have the cards available with ribbon strung through them. Then each guest is able to write a wish for the couple and hang it on the tree! This is a simple yet creative idea that’s really easy to do! After the wedding, arrange the cards in a journal or scrapbook. ❤ - GonnaGetWed.com Resource

Clothesline Photos: Create a clothesline of photos of friends and family that have attended the wedding. They can sign and write messages on either the bottom or the back of the picture to make it more personal. Signature Canvas: Instead of a book buy a big plain piece of canvas. Your guests will be able to sign it and write as much as they want to. After the wedding is over you can hang the canvas on Christina Kjar Photography

Involving Kids

Wedding

in the

A

wedding is a big social event where everyone is invited, children included. If you plan to have kids at your wedding reception, it is a good idea to plan to keep them entertained. Kids can easily get bored, and the last thing parents want to hear is “I want to go home.” So planning to entertain the kids will allow all the guests to have a great time. At the reception, you may want to give children options of entertainment. One popular idea is creating a craft table. Kids can decorate some pink and white paper hearts to display in your reception venue. Another idea is to provide a few books or a gift bag for each child with items such as crayons and coloring books, puzzles, card games, etc. These are great forms of entertainment to keep the children occupied. You can also put together a treasure hunt or stock up on brain-teasing trivia boxes… anything works if they are having fun! ❤

The MAN CAVE T o accommodate the growing number of men who are starting to feel a little left out, the Man Cave offers a place to feel at ease in a sometimes uncomfortable situation. Wedding planners have started to include elaborate casino or poker corners at wedding receptions, catering towards the men who would otherwise be posted up by the bar desperately trying to avoid standard wedding small talk. After all, they deserve some fun too. The Man Cave is a man’s dream in wedding additions—consisting of countless testosterone-favored activities: blackjack tables, brandy bars, Playstations, stogies, etc.

Before you start worrying that the Man Cave will just draw everyone away from the actual wedding festivities, think twice about the nature of man. The addition gives the groom and his buddies a part of the wedding that is “theirs” making them feel more connected to the wedding in general. If allowed the opportunity to have their own fun for a while, they’re likely to be more enthusiastic, understanding and enjoyable when it comes to the general activities (and less likely to resent their required participation). Plus, the Man Cave gives the groom his own portion of the night to plan without the bride. Clearly men are finally asserting their independence within the wedding planning process, leaping to new heights on the participant ladder than we ever thought possible. It’s as if they’re proving “No, It ISN’T always about the bride.” Then again, maybe the Man Cave concept is just a clever plot to get the men out of the bride’s spotlight for a while. ❤

The Best Kept Secret in Weddings T

he outdoor wedding venue is becoming increasingly popular with bridal couples, and at Penny Tree at BBB Lodge, nature provides the basics. Mature trees, the open prairie and the big blue South Dakota sky await the couple. Nestled in those trees is a meticulously maintained landscape and patio, accented by a waterfall and a stunning new rustic pavilion that holds up to 350 guests. The lawn begs you to walk in your bare feet. Penny Tree at BBB Lodge, near Parker, started 2 years ago when a couple requested to hold their wedding on the two-acre fresh-trimmed lawn. The wedding ceremony was held on the 2,000 sq. ft. paver-patio in front of the lodge. The minister stood Beautiful country in front of the location only waterfall which 30 min from is fed by a stream Sioux Falls that meanders through barberry itpennytree.c bushes, Colorado om w.vis w w Spruce trees and Unique sett the native grasses for your ing special in the landscape. day! CEREMONY & RECEPTION

A recent addition of a 3,200 sq. ft. three-season rustic

pavilion provides future couples with shelter against the beating sun and inclement weather. An additional 2,000 sq. ft. of patio, along with 100 ft. of meandering sidewalks through the landscape complete the new venue. Two acres of irrigated and professionally maintained lawn create the perfect setting for the wedding ceremony! As the night moves in, and guests retreat to the Pavilion, specialized lighting integrated into the tree-lined setting and landscape create a surreal setting. Penny Tree has a story behind its name, and a fun ritual for guests of the wedding. “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a lucky penny in your shoe." The practice of a father placing a sixpence (now a penny) in his daughter’s left shoe on her wedding day is to wish the newlywed couple a lifetime of health, happiness and wealth. With that thought, Penny Tree guests are encouraged to put a penny into the special tree just off the patio to signify their wish of happiness for the couple while attending the event. Penny Tree offers free parking, access to the facility for up to 44 hours to include decorating time, the rehearsal dinner, and even the gift opening on Sunday morning. Catering, bar hosting and entertainment are the choice of the couple, making Penny Tree one of the most flexible venues in the region. Lodging is available and privacy is guaranteed.

Catering Tips T

here are an endless number of questions that a bride can ask herself when it comes to choosing the appropriate caterer for her wedding reception. Brides need to consider the style or theme of the day, the types of ingredients used, and all of those “special touches that make the day absolutely perfect. There are countless ways to make your reception about you.

Finished Vision Photography

100

What is the overall "theme" of the day?

•If your reception will be outdoors in July, you could consider a picnic style reception.

• Or maybe your event will be more formal, and you would prefer to have table service for your guests.

What do you like?

• If you and your spouse have a favorite food,

like tacos, set up a fun taco bar with as many different toppings as you see fit. Think outside the box to create a unique day that is tailored to you.

It is important to consider all of these questions when determining your dining needs at your wedding reception. No one wants frustrated hungry guests ruining the day, and the food you serve can make a big impact. In Sioux Falls, The Marketplace Catering can help you create the reception of your dreams. With over 20 years of catering experience, they will take your special requests and use the freshest ingredients to make sure you and your guests are satisfied, and that you stay on mark with your wedding day budget. They want to help you create the perfect evening that is tailored exactly to your needs. ❤ -GonnaGetWed.com Resource

• Also, do you or your guests have allergies or

special dietary needs? Make sure you choose a caterer who is willing to accommodate.

How would you like the food displayed?

• Consider these options: tiered display, platter style, and elegant decorative touches.

The food presentation should match the style of wedding you will be having. An outdoor wedding in the woods will have a different background than a wedding inside a fancy restaurant will have. Also, keep in mind the size of reception space you will be working with.

Do you have specific special requests?

• Maybe you want a whole hog roast, pasta bar, or sirloin sundae with as many condiments as you can think of.

•Or, perhaps you have a groom who is determined to have strawberry Jello for dessert.

here are a million different ways to serve cake to your guests at your wedding other than a traditional tiered cake with plain frosting. Be creative and have fun planning a memorable dessert for your wedding reception! Here are a few ideas to get you to start thinking outside of the wedding cake box:

• Mini cakes on each table: You can serve a small

cake on each table at your wedding reception on beautiful cake stands. You can get creative with each cake decorated differently and have different flavors and fillings.

• A cupcake tower: You can have a cupcake tower complete with colorful frosting and decorations. This is also an easy way to have multiple flavors to satisfy all of the guests, and it is a perfect way to make a beautiful statement.

Cake pops: Cake pops are fun mini-sized alternative to having a large cake at your wedding. They are small round cakes that resemble a lollipop! Finished Vision Photography

They can be multiple colors and flavors, and they are a fun way to have your cake and eat it too!

• Individual wedding cakes: Mini tiered cakes can

be beautiful and fun to serve to each of your guests. They can be elegantly decorated with fondant and are a classy dessert for your big day!

• Alternatives

to cake: Maybe you don’t even like cake. You could have a giant rice crispy cake, or a macaron tower! Maybe even a donut tower or whoopie pies! The list can really go on forever. Make sure to have fun incorporating your wedding color scheme and theme of the day into your dessert. You can decorate with flowers, lace, “bling,” and colorful frosting and fondant to enhance your personal style. Remember, choose what you like and have fun with it, and your wedding day dessert will be a great success that all of your guests will be sure to enjoy! ❤

Wedding Spirits I

f you plan on serving alcohol at your reception, there are a few helpful tips that you should remember to prepare for the night. If you want to provide alcohol for your guests you should consider taking these steps to insure the safety of your guests after the reception ends.

You want to share only the good memories of a fun night with all of your closest family and friends, but if you are serving alcohol, you should take extra precautions keep everyone safe. ❤ -GonnaGetWed.com Resource

Make sure to have snacks throughout the night that guests can munch on. Food helps slow the rate of alcohol absorption!

• Provide water to your guests throughout the night. Water will help keep your guests hydrated!

• Provide a safe ride or designated driver to help guests get back to their hotel rooms at the end of the night. You can have your DJ or entertainer make an announcement so people will know it is available!

Catering Tips A

lthough every bride wants to get the best price, what's even more important is getting what you are looking for. Often times, guests will talk about what a beautiful wedding it was. More often, they will discuss (in detail) how good the food was or wasn't. When it comes to choosing the catering company for your special day. Decide on your budget and try to look within your price range. In other words, if you want "cheap" - you have to expect that you'll only get what you pay for. If "oofy" is what you are looking for - understand that you are going to need to pay for that and most likely narrow down your choices for selecting the right team. Every caterer has it's own comfort zone. And, in general, you are looking at 3 classes (or categories) of catering vendors being available. For example: Subway and Jimmy John's both offer catering - and if you are looking for sub sandwiches - chances are one of these two vendors will (and should) be getting your business. But on the other hand, if you are looking for the elegance that you've seen created by Chef Dominique, that's what you will have to pay for. You will want to work within the chosen caterer's "comfort zone" to get your desired results. Looking for great flavor without breaking the bank‌.a company like MarketPlace Catering could be the right answer. Flexibility, but within reason. Most events are using our fresh made family recipes (like mom used to make). To assure that you get exactly what you are looking for, if we believe that another company might be better suited to fill your request, you will be informed. If you have a special request or recipe that you wish to be a part of your reception meal, ask! Recently a groom, who was raised on a hog farm, requested a full (head-on) hog roast. Find out if your caterer is able to set up outside or if they must have access to electricity.

any couples underestimate the importance of the entertainment for their reception. Below are the top 10 things you should consider before selecting your entertainer:

6. Is backup equipment provided? As you know, all electronics are man-made and can fail. So it’s important that your entertainer have not only backup equipment but also a backup plan.

1. How much of your budget are you willing to commit to your reception? Price shopping is the biggest mistake couples make while selecting their entertainer. You should book your entertainer based on their value and ability to create a night that expresses your vision. Higher-end entertainers will have the experience to customize your reception to you and your budget; don’t be afraid to ask for payment plans!

7. What happens if the entertainer is ill or otherwise cannot attend your event? These details should be laid out in a written contract form with EVERY service provider.

2. How much experience do you want your entertainer to have? Consider getting a list of references from previous clients.

9. Are there any hidden additional charges or expected necessities from your entertainer? For example, are you required to pay a service charge for stairs at the reception hall? Or are you required to pay for their dinner? How much is mileage if your reception is out of town?

3. Who will actually be the entertainer at your event? Often times, with larger multi-operational companies, you won’t actually know who your entertainer is until that night. Always make sure the actual entertainer is laid out clearly in your contract. 4. What type of equipment do you deserve to have at your event? Not being able to understand announcements, hearing a hiss or buzz during your event, or having part of your beautifully decorated event contain an eyesore of wires and beat up equipment can all be avoided by getting a picture of their setup before you hire them! 5. What additional services are included? Will you need a master of ceremonies (emcee) at your event, a coordinator or even someone to interact and participate with your crowd?

MUSIC

8. Is your entertainer insured? Every legitimate business has insurance. Ask your entertainer for his proof of property AND liability insurance.

10. How much input will you be able to give on your music selection? Everyone has their own tastes and preferences when it comes to music. Will your entertainer be able to cater to those tastes? You want your reception to reflect you and your guests, not that of the dozens of couples before you! With so much riding on the success of your reception, your entertainment should never be over looked. Really evaluate the options when shopping for your wedding entertainment. Don’t ever be afraid to ask questions as the entertainment will have a direct impact on the entire success of your reception.

How to Pick T

he kind of music you pick for your wedding dance will have a huge impact on the entire atmosphere of the evening! So, there is a lot to consider before you begin choosing your songs. First of all, what is the overall theme or feel of the day that you are going for? Is it soft and romantic, or vibrant and colorful? You should try to match your music with the theme for the day. How are you bringing you and your fiancé’s personality into the day? The music you choose should not only be to entertain your guests, but to also reflect on your personality as a couple. Dance Ballroom & Studio offers fun, private or group dance lessons for the whole wedding party. Learn a simple, choreographed group dance to surprise your guests and rock your reception. Or, take lessons to make your first dance memorable (in a good way)! A few examples of songs: FIRST DANCE: Everything- Michael Buble In Your Eyes- Peter Gabriel Better Together- Jack Johnson Brighter Than the Sun- Colbie Caillat The Way You Look Tonight- Frank Sinatra At Last- Etta James Marry Me- Train FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE: My Wish- Rascal Flatts Stand By Me- Ben E. King And Then They Do- Trace Adkins Unforgettable- Natalie Cole I Hope You Dance- Lee Ann Womack Isn’t She Lovely- Stevie Wonder

A

fter both first dances have passed you’ll want a song that will get your guests out of their seats and dancing. You can go with some old time classics or spice things up with some fast-paced contemporary styles, whichever suits your tastes best. Here is a list of party songs that are sure to get your guests dancing to their beats: WEDDING DANCE PARTY SONGS: YMCA – Village People We are Family – Sister Sledge Celebration – Kool and the Gang Shout - Otis Day & The Night Mony Mony - Billy Idol You Shook Me All Night Long - ACDC Just Dance - Lady Gaga Sexy Back - Justin Timberlake Electric Slide - Grandmaster Let’s Get It Started - Black Eyed Peas Old Time Rock & Roll - Bob Seger - GonnaGetWed.com Resource

he Dollar Dance has been a tradition at weddings for years, but recently, more brides have been looking for alternatives to this timeconsuming wedding day activity. So here’s a list of dollar dance alternatives for your big day! Raffle off small items for your guests to bet money on! Have your entertainer announce it during the dance to get everyone excited.

2 3

“Get arrested!” Have your guests help you reach bail so that you can rejoin them at the party!

Create a money tree or giving box! Guests can add money to it throughout the night without feeling overly obligated.

Dollar Dash! Have the DJ play an upbeat song while the bride and groom “dash” around the guests to see who can collect the most money before the song ends. OR just skip the dollar dance altogether! It’s your day and you should feel free to make it exactly what you want. There are countless dollar dance alternatives that you could possibly come up with, so have fun with it! If you are creative and bring your style to the event, it is sure to be a success. ❤

Choosing Your

Wedding Entertainment Y

our Wedding Day Entertainment is extremely important in creating your ultimate day. If your reception is great, your wedding will be remembered as great, just as bad reception entertainment will leave your guests with poor memories. It is important to remember this when setting a proper budget and picking the right entertainer to create an amazing evening. Here’s what you’ll need to keep in mind:

Pricing vs. Value:

It is important to consider the overall vision you would like to have when you choose an entertainer for your wedding reception. Would you rather have your guests entertained all evening or let the music do the talking? Just remember, you will seldom get the best price, best service, and highest quality from your entertainer. Music Selection:

Your DJ should know which audio components are the best, and which will provide quality sound for your guests. It is also important to have a back-up plan if something were to fail.

DJ Equipment: While you may not know which audio components are the best, your DJ should. The equipment used will translate directly into the quality of the sound. It is important that your entertainer has quality gear and a back-up plan if something were to fail.

The Power of Lighting:

Dance floor lighting has long been a staple to most DJ setups to create energy and drama on the dance floor. New trends in lighting include LED technology and up-lighting techniques that coordinate your wedding colors into the dance floor. They are energy efficient and generate almost no heat. These lighting trends are helpful in creating a brand for your entire reception and dance. If a Professional DJ is Not in the Budget... C

ouples are always looking for ways to save money on their wedding expenses, and many think that having an iPod wedding could be the answer. However, when people choose to use an iPod for music at their weddings they run into a long list of problems, including running out of music. They might not even have the proper equipment to play their music at the venue! If you still don’t think a professional DJ is worth the money, consider the Quebbie as a great alternative!

The Quebbie

• The Quebbie is a DJ-in-a-box music system that is a fully programmable, touch screen device with

an awesome speaker system and over 9,000 songs included. It is an excellent cost effective alternative to hiring a DJ or band, and it is more effective than an iPod. • You can check out Carolan Rentals & N- Flatable Fun in Sioux Falls to rent a Quebbie for your event. They’ll even let you take the device for a few days in order to setup your playlist and to familiarize yourself with it before your big day! Consider the Quebbie as the perfect alternative to a DJ for your next bridal occasion! ❤ - GonnaGetWed.com Resource

Flowers for the seasons

Christina Kjar Photography

• Spring Flowers: Fresh Picked Blooms

• Summer Flowers: A Pop of Color

• Fall Flowers: Bold and Dramatic

• Winter Flowers: Modern Design

Try the "just picked from the garden" look. Fill vases or baskets with loose and playful blooms in fresh colors like pinks, greens, lavenders, whites and yellows. Spring picks: peonies, lilacs, daffodils and lilies

Dramatic, bold colors and seasonal branches are particularly appropriate for autumn. Fall for colors such as reds, yellows, oranges and deep purples that will compliment the season. Fall picks: calla lilies, chrysanthemums, dahlias and gladiolas

Summer bouquets can be vibrant and playful, adding a nice pop of color to your wedding. Splashes of yellow, coral and hot pink blend together nicely and make for the ideal summer bouquet. Summer picks: mimosas, dahlias, daises, hydrangeas and zinnias Don’t feel trapped into holiday themes. Pairing pure white and deep purples complements winter weddings nicely. Playing up white tones contrasted with non-floral elements like dramatic feathers makes for striking, high style statements. Winter picks: hyacinths, calla lilies and paperwhites ❤

The Silk Alternative F

lowers are an essential part of any wedding. From the bride's bouquet and the groom’s boutonniere to the wedding ceremony and reception, flowers can appear everywhere! When you imagine your wedding day décor, you should consider using silk flowers as a great alternative to real ones.

by

For most brides, the thought of using artificial flowers at their wedding is not very appealing, but there are many factors you should consider before ruling them out. In fact, many florists use artificial flowers regularly in their arrangements. Some even mix both natural and silk flowers together to create beautiful pieces! The following are examples why silk alternatives are becoming more commonly used.

Silk Flowers:

Come in different shapes and colors and are always in season • Won’t wilt in warm weather or freeze in the winter • Allow you to decorate your ceremony and reception hall days before your wedding • Are more durable and much easier to transport • Can be scented to smell sweet and are great for people with allergies • Will look just as gorgeous after 25 years as they did on your wedding day Whether you chose silk or real flowers, make your choice based on your budget and the location of your wedding. Keep in mind that while silk flowers can be more practical than real flowers, their cost can still add up. Remember to ask for pricing up front. ❤

The perfect bouquet Y

ou want to ensure that you have made the right choice of bouquet for your wedding day. You want a beautiful bouquet, but also need to be careful that your bouquet does not over-shadow your gown. There are three very important things to consider when selecting a bouquet that is right for you... 1) The style of your wedding gown 2) The size of your body 3) The overall look and mood of your wedding Here are a few kinds of bouquets. Which one is the right one for you??

• Nosegays:

Consist of round clusters of flowers. They can vary in levels of sophistication making them a good choice for any style of wedding.

• Cascade Bouquet:

Consist of flowers that come down below the main portion of the bouquet. These bouquets are most often used in traditional and formal weddings.

• Hand-Tied Bouquets: Made by wrapping the stems of the flowers, foliage and other accessories in a secure fashion. The stems of the flowers are often wrapped with a simple ribbon and are very elegant and classy.

• Contemporary Bouquets: These un-

conventional styles of bouquets are inspired by designs and patterns with no exact geometric form.

• Arm Bouquet:

This elegant style of bouquet can be very simple or complex, depending on your preferences, and can be cradled in your arm. ❤

Color blocking J

ust like in fashion, the growing trend of color blocking is becoming very popular in floral arrangements and you will definitely be seeing more of it at weddings. Color blocking is when a color is chosen and different kinds of flowers are picked to match that specific color palette, creating a dramatic grouping effect. The intense concentration of each strategicallyplaced color will draw attention to the flowers while the assorted textures will create depth. Stick to two or three colors, anymore than that and you might end up losing the bold effect.

FLOWERS

If you like the bold look, use contrasting colors to bring attention to the individual flowers. Contrasting, yet complimentary colors are opposite in the color wheel. But even if they’re opposite, when mixed together these colors pop! For a more delicate look, use similar shades of each color. If you like this look, be sure to ask your local wedding florist to show you suggestions on how to incorporate color blocking into your wedding bouquets and reception centerpieces. - GonnaGetWed.com Resource 129

STYLES OF PHOTOGRAPHY TOP TEN QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER AND VIDEOGRAPHER PHOTOBOOTHS

131

10 Questions to Ask Your

Wedding Photographer H

ere are some questions you should be sure to ask your photographer when booking:

1. Will you be the photographer the day of my wedding? Some larger studios have multiple photographers that may vary in style and personality. 2. How would you describe your photography style? Make sure you book a photographer that has a similar sense of style as you do. 3. Will you have a second shooter? A second shooter will allow for multiple angles of the same scene. 4. How long have you been shooting weddings? Experience is always good, but mostly, their experience and price should go together. 5. Do you edit your photos? If you are concerned with blemishes being removed or any editing, make sure the photographer would be willing to do so. 6. Will you provide a CD of high resolution images? Not all photographers give out the copyright to their images on a CD. They all have different packages and some offer prints instead. 7. What do you do in case of camera malfunction or card corruption? Technology is great, but it does fail. Make sure the photographer has back up plans. 8. Can I see your work from a full wedding day? The photographers website showcases their best work (which it should). You want to ask to see a wedding from start to finish, from getting ready to the reception. 9. What is your rate per package? It is always important to make sure your budget can handle what you are booking. 10. Lastly ask YOURSELF, “Do I like them?” Your photographer will work with you closely all day. It is crucial that you get along with them and enjoy their personality! ❤

Get to Know

Your Photographer

P

hotography is an ever changing industry, driven by what is the most unique and trendy. Everyone is looking for a photographer that is going to give them amazing, breathtaking photos. Every bride will expect a photographer to capture stunning formals, tear-jerking candids and the over all feel of the wedding. Photographers are hired for a full day to make sure every detail is captured. Pictures can be a stressful part of a wedding day, so here are a few things that can help ease that stress: • Do an engagement session with your photographer. This gives you the chance to get to know each other and get familiar with how each other acts and works. Some couples are much more comfortable kissing in front of camera then others and it helps your photographer to know these things. An engagement session allows a photographer to get some hints into how they can make their couple feel more relaxed in front of the camera. • Set up a coffee date the week or two before the wedding with your photographer. This gives you both a chance to go over how you would like your hours of pictures to go. Your photographer should know what you are expecting as a bride and you will feel much more comfortable if you know just how things will go and how your photographer will run things.

• Have a checklist of formals for the photographer. This makes sure no one Photos by is getting missed, the VanDyke Studios photos are getting done that the bride has requested and everyone on that list know when they need to be there. This will ensure smooth sailing for photos. • Keep in contact after the wedding. There are many great photo opportunities that can be done after you are married. First year anniversary photos can be a fun way to recap your first year of marriage. Boudoir photography is becoming more popular and can be a fun and creative first year anniversary gift. Of course newborn baby photography can also be something to think about as starting a family could be right around the corner. Your photographer may offer discounts for some of these sessions after photographing your wedding. Your photographer can be one of the most important people you hire for your big day. There are so many different people out there doing photos these days it can be very overwhelming. Asking questions and building a relationship with your photographer can be the best way to feel confident with your decision.

Styles of

Photography

Y

our wedding photography not only serves as a memory source but also as a way to reflect your own personal style. When it comes to choosing your wedding photographer, be sure your photographer shares your same style. What type of bride are you? Classic Elegance You enjoy the more posed, timeless look. Traditional wedding photography consists of mostly portrait posed photographs with the bride and groom, bridal party and the couple’s families. The photographer is really the “director” for your wedding shoot taking time to make sure every detail is in its proper place Candid & Carefree You are a natural, go with the flow bride. Photojournalistic tells a story through the photographs capturing mostly candid moments without intervention. The photographer does not direct and pose individuals. Instead they react to events and create more raw and factual images. Artsy & Unique You are unique and edgy and definitely want something a little different. Fine art wedding photography focuses more on creating wall art that can be hung instead of documenting the day. The photographer will take advantage of any dramatic lighting or settings where they can position the bride and groom. This style also incorporates unique angles and unexpected environments as well as different editing effects and image manipulation. All styles of photography have their advantages and disadvantages. You might find that you enjoy several aspects from each style. Work with your photographer before your wedding and make sure they have a clear understanding of what you are wanting. Many photographers overlap in these different styles of photography and will be able to give you exactly what you are dreaming of for your day! ❤

and Videography Raw Footage This video simply starts whenever you specify and runs uninterrupted. The result is unedited video with no added music or graphics. This is typically the least expensive, and generally done by amateurs. Edited “in-camera” This option also does not offer added graphics. The camera person shuts off the camera at uninteresting moments, and often rewinds and records over boring material. This is moderately priced and is a great option if done by a professional. Post-edited This is the most common and most expensive. It is time consuming because the videographer takes all the footage, cuts out the boring parts, smooths out the transitions in-between scenes and often ads titles & music. Still photos can be added such as baby pictures, other photos from the wedding and reception, and video and pictures from your honeymoon, which can make your video more interesting and give it a truly personal feel. Highlights Some videographers will offer a highlight DVD for an additional fee, which condenses the entire day's events into a short 10-20 minute crisply edited reel set to music. These make great gifts for close family and friends. 137

Choosing the RIGHT

Photo Booth Vendor!

P

hoto booths are a hot trend in weddings! If you have ever attended a wedding with a photo booth, you already know how much fun they really are. The resulting pictures they produce are always fun and sometimes, outright hilarious. With more and more photo booth vendors each year, you need to know the ins and outs of the business before selecting the right photo booth vendor for your reception. Consider the following questions:

How long will the photo booth be up and running? • Is the photo booth staffed or do we have to run it ourselves? • How many prints are included with this price? • Are you able to make multiple copies so that every guest can have one? • Do we get a disk with all the event’s images? • Is a photo guest book provided? • How many people can fit in each photo? Is the photo booth enclosed or open lounge style? • What will we need to provide? (Ex: table, power source, backdrops, props) • What happens if the equipment fails? Do you have a backup? • How many events have you done? Experience is key! Finding the right vendor can add a sense of creativity and flair to your wedding that will help you catch those epic memories!

Advice at a Glance ❤ Scout out your ceremony and reception sites with your photographer before your wedding day to choose the best settings for your formal photographs.

❤ Consider taking formal portraits before the ceremony so you and the wedding party can enjoy the cocktail hour. If you are superstitious and don’t want to take shots with your groom before the ceremony, just take all the formal shots that don’t include him ahead of time.

❤ Serve non-alcoholic drinks and hors d’oeuvres to those who will be posing for pictures prior to arriving at the reception site to keep your bridal party lively for the pictures. Take any photos immediately upon arrival before party members begin drinking or are distracted.

Don’t forget to give the photographer and videographer any special instructions or restrictions by the officiant or the ceremony site ahead of time.

❤ Have your photographer take candid pictures of your parents that you could possibly have framed as gifts for them.

❤ Figure out before the wedding day if you want the videographer to interview your guests.

❤ Ask your photographer for a sample album of an ❤

entire wedding he/she shot to get a realistic idea of their ability. Make sure the photographer/videographer brings extra equipment in case something breaks or malfunctions so you're not left with important moments not photographed or recorded.

❤ Without him knowing, say something special to the groom on tape so he is happily surprised when he sees it. Also consider a special 1 year anniversary message recorded separately for that special night.

❤ The number of photos the photographer guarantees to shoot should be greater than the number you want to include in your album so you have the largest selection possible.

❤ The photographer or videographer you hire should have experience shooting in conditions similar to yours. Be sure to view samples of work done in similar conditions.

❤ The videographer should have a wireless microphone so guests won’t trip over cords.

LIMOUSINES | PARTY BUS OTHER TRANSPORTATION GUEST ACCOMMODATIONS Finished Vision Photography

Trends in Limo

Transportation S

izes of wedding parties continue to grow. This creates an increasing demand for transportation that can handle these types of numbers making limo buses extremely popular. As the size of bridal parties continues to grow, so does the size of the limo bus. It is not uncommon to rent a vehicle that holds 20-30 people or possibly even more. Tom Olson from Stellar Limousine in Sioux Falls points out there are multiple uses for different vehicles, not just for bridal parties to get from the ceremony to the reception.

Some other uses are using a limo to get from the hotel to the church after the bridal party gets ready. It is also not uncommon for the bride and groom to send a car to bring parents, grandparents and other special guests to the church and reception. The wedding day is just as important to them as it is to the couple so why not make it special for them as well. Another popular use for a limo bus is for a “safe ride” program for guests to get to and from the hotel and reception site. Alcohol is often a big part of the reception celebration, and it is a nice perk for guests to not have to worry about driving following the reception. After the ceremony, guests staying at the hotel can meet in the lobby and take the shuttle directly to the reception. This “safe ride” shuttle is also great for guests who are from another town and may not be familiar or comfortable driving to the different locations on your wedding day. Many bridal parties will choose to rent a limo or bus for their bachelor and bachelorette parties. Often times the limo company you are using for your wedding day transportation will offer some sort of discount or package deal on a vehicle for the bachelors party. ❤

Guest

accommodations O

ut-of-town guests coming to your wedding? Offer them hassle-free accommodations by booking a block of rooms through a hotel or bed and breakfast. Not only does this make things easier for you, your out-of-town guests will have less worries, too. They won't have to worry about hotel availability and most hotels will negotiate a group rate, making it easier for guests to afford. Hotels will also try to book your guests in the same area allowing extended family and friends to be together. And, with the amenities offered by most hotels, your guests will feel like they are on vacation. Indoor pools and whirlpools will offer your guests relaxation. A hotel shuttle can ease guests' transportation worries. A complimentary breakfast will eliminate meal-time worries and will be easier on your guests' wallets. Lastly an on-site fitness center offers your healthminded guests an exercise option and in-room payper-view movies can provide hours of entertainment for all ages. Base the number of rooms in your block on your preliminary RSVP count. Once your block is in place, let your guests know what hotel or bed and breakfast to contact and what name the room block is under. Also inform your guests as to how long they have to book the rooms. Adding a personal touch to your out-of-town guests' accommodations will make your guests feel appreciated. Some ideas to consider are gift baskets,

HOTELS & TRANSPORTATION

Planning your

Honeymoon

T

o create an experience you and your new spouse will never forget, plan your honeymoon together. This includes researching, possibly meeting with a travel agent and even making the reservations as a couple. The most important factor is that you’re both in agreement. Choose a locale you’re both comfortable with and that you’ll look back on fondly for years to come. Prior to choosing a destination, budget accordingly. It is important to not only plan for expected costs but unexpected expenditures as well. Consider transportation and lodging first, but be sure to budget for meals, transfers, souvenirs, sight-seeing, excursions, tips, taxes, etc. Don’t go into debt to finance your honeymoon. There are a wide variety of trips you can take that won’t break your bank. You may even get a better deal if you go through a travel agent as opposed to planning everything yourselves. This should be a once in a lifetime event for the two of you, so plan wisely. Make your reservations early to increase your chances of getting exactly what you want. If plans change, you’ll have plenty of time to 148

make alternate arrangements. Don’t forget to give yourself enough time to apply for a passport. This can take up to eight weeks to obtain so prioritize this at the top of your list if you’re traveling abroad. Consider making a list of what you’ll need to accomplish prior to your departure. This includes everything from making sure you’re up to date on any vaccinations you might need to contacting a kennel to board your pet while you're away. It’s not every day that you and your honey get to stroll the beaches of Mexico or visit the awe-inspiring museums in Europe, so don’t be afraid to splurge. Take advantage of all the great extras that may be offered to you: sunset sails, massage packages and extravagant meals. Whatever the indulgence, enjoy it! Pamper yourselves and you’ll be sure to have the time of your life. For inspiration, travel brochures and magazines offer information on popular and exotic honeymoon spots. Find the best times to travel to these locations and where to go while you’re there. ❤

10 Tips For a perfect Honeymoon

Prepare a budget – Figure out how much you have to spend prior to booking anything. Plan your honeymoon TOGETHER! – Take into consideration each others likes and dislikes and travel to a locale you will both enjoy. Pick a smart destination – If you are on a budget, consider traveling to the Caribbean in warmer weather because it’s cheaper. Traveling abroad? Make sure to find a country where the dollar is stronger so you save moola! Take advantage of a travel agent – Someone will make all the arrangements for you and it won’t cost any more!

Contact Giselle: (605) 362-5077 • www.DreamGetaways.net Specializing in Destination Weddings and Honeymoons

Traveling internationally? – Make sure your passport is current and that you have the visas you need. Give yourself a minimum of 2 months to apply for and receive your passport. Share the love! – When you make reservations, let people know you’re honeymooning. You may get a hotel room upgrade, free cocktails on the plane, or a welcome bottle of champagne at your resort. Keep your affair private – A honeymoon is for the two of you, period. No pets, no kids, no company. Take more money than you think you’ll need – This will help cover any extra incidentals. You may consider prepaying for everything or choosing an allinclusive resort so everything is taken care of up front. Relax – Even though resorts and hotels offer a wide variety of activities, take the time to enjoy your trip… and your new spouse! Be considerate of your spouse’s wishes. ❤

Destination

Weddings

I

magine‌ powdery, white sand at your feet, blue waters glistening in the sunlight and a gentle tropical breeze wisps in the air. Excitement builds as all of your closest friends and family anticipate the moment when you exchange your wedding vows. It’s a dream come true! Destination weddings are becoming more popular. Planning a wedding and honeymoon combo is easier than planning the two events separately. With only one location to scout and reserve, and resort coordinators to aide in your final preparations, your work is minimized. When planning your celebration, look at the honeymoon destination first because many allinclusive resorts offer a wedding ceremony. Be aware that all countries have different legal requirements for getting married, including residence or medical requirements.

Typically, destination weddings cost less than having a traditional wedding. On average, most couples spend under $10,000 to get married in the sun and sands of paradise. When figuring your wedding budget, the honeymoon accounts for approximately 14% of the total wedding costs. By combining the two into a destination wedding, you can save money, while creating a memorable event. The great thing about destination weddings is that you have a week or weekend of fun activities with your friends and family. As much as you are looking forward to seeing them, take some time for yourself. To avoid being exhausted on your wedding day, plan your ceremony a day or two after you arrive at your destination. Then to recover from all the fun and activities, plan to stay several days after everyone else has departed. For the extra relaxation, book a spa treatment for the two of you and just relax. After all, this special occasion is all about the two of you!

AVOID Honeymoon Woes... ❤

• Make sure your passport is still current before you travel or allow 2 full months to get one. • Remember to keep all travel documents safe with you on the plane. • Upon arriving to your destination, lock your travel documents and other important items in the safe provided in your hotel room!

154

What is the cancellation policy?

• Don't over pack! Lugging heavy suitcases is not the way to start your honeymoon. Many are in tropical climates so light clothing items are great! • Finally, set realistic expectations of how much you will do and how many sights you will see. The object of a honeymoon is to become even more intimate with your mate… not to see as many tourist traps as possible and return worn out.

Home, Auto & Finance

HOME OWNERSHIP | AUTO PURCHASES FINANCIAL SERVICES

MORTGAGE MYTHS... THE TRUTH BEHIND THEM Mortgage Myth #1 – You need 20% down to purchase a home. Congratulations if you have a 20% down payment! Having a bigger down payment can make the process of purchasing a home easier, but there are many programs out there for people who have 5% or less to put down. FHA financing only requires 3.5% down, which helps the buyer cover closing costs. Conventional loans require 5% down. If you buy a home three miles outside of Sioux Falls, you may qualify for a Rural Development loan; this program requires no down payment. All these programs have some advantages and disadvantages so make sure to investigate which one is right for you. If you are a first-time home buyer, look into the South Dakota Housing Development First-Time Home Buyer Program. They offer down payment assistance and low rate options. Mortgage Myth #2 – My credit score suffers when I shop for a mortgage. Inquiries into your credit can affect your score. Your credit score can have an impact on which programs you qualify for and what rate you receive. However, if several lenders pull credit within a short period of time, it should not affect your score. If you go to a lender every week for a month or two, then yes, your score may take a hit. If you are going to shop for a mortgage, do it by applying at all the lenders in the same week, if possible, to avoid issues that can affect your qualifying rate and terms. Mortgage Myth #3 – A 30-Year Fixed Rate Mortgage is the way to go. Rates on fixed rate loans are historically low. But the consumer has many options including 10year, 15-year, 20-year or even a 25-year fixed rate loan. Rates usually improve the shorter the term

156

of the loan. Also, Adjustable Rate Mortgages are at historic lows as well and for the right situation, can save the borrower thousands in interest. Talking to a mortgage lender will help you determine what loan structure fits your financial needs.

Mortgage Myth #4 – I will have mortgage insurance on my loan forever. If you have a loan that requires mortgage insurance, it will eventually fall off. For example, FHA loans drop the insurance when your loan balance reaches 78% of the original value of the home at the time of financing. Conventional loans will also remove your mortgage insurance at the 78% mark. You can always request it be removed early if you think your home has appreciated enough, but might have to do an appraisal to support the value. Mortgage insurance is a great tool to help you get in to a home, but it won’t be required forever. Under some circumstances, it's even tax deductible.

CONGRATULATIONS You’re ready to start your new life together!

Mortgage Myth #5 – Banks aren’t lending, it's hard and takes too long get approved. While it is true that state income programs have disappeared, people who make their payments and can show their income, can and will get a loan. Some programs have increased their minimum credit score requirements to 620 or higher. If your credit score is under that, start working on it now! One or two 30-day late payments will not normally affect your approval but it may affect the interest rate you qualify for. When you go to the appointment with your mortgage lender, bring your most recent two years of income tax returns, current pay stubs and current bank statements. If you have all the supporting documentation, your lender should be able to tell you what you are approved for that same day, or shortly thereafter.

Getting into the right home is easier with the right mortgage. The best place to start is with one of the market’s most experienced mortgage teams. You’ll be surprised at how fast and simple the loan process can be if it’s done right. Before you know it, you’ll have a mortgage that fits your lifestyle and a great new home to go with it. Give us a call. We’ll get it done!

Mortgage Myth #6 – I can’t refinance my home because the value has declined. There are always new mortgage myths but the important thing is to work with someone knowledgeable who takes the time to answer your questions. We live in a wonderful community where there are incredible opportunities to buy, sell and refinance your home! So get informed and make smart decisions for your financial future. - Nichoelle Waldner First Bank & Trust, Sioux Falls, SD

Big Purchase

P

urchasing a car can be a very difficult decision for a newly married couple. Men and women have very different tastes in vehicles, and this can cause troubles when it comes to making a final decision.

If couples discuss their wants and needs in advance, take the time to do some research, and make the decision together, everybody will be happy on the drive home. ❤ - GonnaGetWed.com Resource

What can newlyweds do to come together on a purchase that both can agree on? Here are some ideas on how couples can successfully get through the car-buying process. Set a budget: First and foremost, discuss a price that is in your budget. Make sure you have a final max number that you are both comfortable with. Do some research: It will be helpful to have some ideas of what you both like before you go in to talk to a dealership. Make your choices based on what features are necessary for your lifestyle and future plans. Looking up the consumer ratings is helpful research as well. Be patient: You don't want to rush into such a large purchase or make an impulse buy you may regret in the future. Take your time and make sure you have talked over any concerns and that all of your questions have been answered. Allow time for both of you to test drive the vehicle.
