lanning a wedding can be one of the most stressful events in your life. But it doesn’t need to be! I started GonnaGetWed.com and the GonnaGetWed Bridal Showcases to help relieve stress from Brides! Attending a bridal show and creating a profile on GonnaGetWed. com can help every bride save time, meet with wedding industry experts, get ideas, and see the latest wedding trends and fashions. These tips will help you get the most out of the GonnaGetWed Bridal Show. PRE-REGISTER FOR THE SHOW Save time by registering before the show. Our lines are long, and pre-registration only takes a few minutes and will save you time in the check-in line. You still need to check into the show to get door prize registrations. BRING YOUR FRIENDS & FAMILY Bringing your friends and family to the bridal show will help them feel involved and also give you a head-start on gathering help for your wedding preparations. Many brides bring their maids-of-honor and their bridesmaids to help them with decisions. Many others will bring their mothers or soon to be mothers-in-law especially since they may be the ones paying for it all. Finally, don’t forget the GROOM! He can register for prizes, too, and should get involved early in the planning.

BRING CONTACT RETURN LABELS Wedding vendors will often have drawings for prizes at their booths throughout the show. You will save a ton of time and energy by bringing return labels. We recommend including the following info: your name, address, phone number, wedding date, wedding city and email address. TAKE NOTES Or bring your tablet. Just be sure to take notes of vendors you talked to and try to rate them or keep some sort of record of who you liked best. You can also keep notes on ideas, thoughts, and dates of appointments made that day with vendors. TAKE PICTURES Many exhibitors have neat displays and you may get some new ideas. Be sure to get permission from the exhibitor before you take photos. It is also fun to get photos of you and your friends and family attending the show for your wedding album. SET A BUDGET Setting your wedding budget and discussing who will be covering the different costs will help you focus on what to look for at the show. Come prepared with lists of questions to help determine if a vendor is right for you and also fits into your budget.

PREPARE Bring your questions for the different industry professionals. Try to review the vendors ahead of time that will be at the show. This will allow you to seek out and spend time talking to those you are really interested in. REGISTER FOR PRIZES The GonnaGetWed bridal shows are known for offering the best prizes! 2016Trends Color + Cakes + Photography + Invitations If you’ve even glanced at Pinterest, it’s hard not to notice the rustic, vintage style that’s sweeping wedding trends.

What really gives the wedding a vintage feel is the color scheme and flowers. The way to achieve this in the spring and summer is with faded pastels, a variety of white shades, and lots of natural colors used through leaves and wood. In the fall and winter, try darker jewel tones like maroon and emerald with accents of rose gold. No matter when the wedding is, have fun with colors and choose more than just one accent color.

Gone are the days of dramatic wedding cakes and multiple fondant accents. Wedding cakes in 2016 are all about simplicity with a rustic feel. The trend we love most is unfrosted cakes! These are decorated with flowers and/or fruit, and without the hours of intense labor, they are just as beautiful. Another trend is brush strokes of water-colors on fondant using edible paint. It creates an effortless yet whimsical feel that’s one of a kind.

Depending on the wedding traditions you want on your big day, many brides are opting out of saving the “first-look” for the ceremony. Having a photographer capture the soon-to-be husband’s first look at the beautiful bride is such a candid and heartfelt shot – this trend also allows for the majority of the photos to be taken before the ceremony starts. After the ceremony, a timeless photo is when the bride and groom take their first steps together as husband and wife. Depending on the venue and time, think about having the guests toss confetti, rice or even holding sparklers if it is a night setting. The interaction between the couple and the friends and family is not one to be missed.

Just like trends of dresses and color schemes, there is now a style trend of typography. Whether it’s your invitations, seating chart, or dessert menu, typography is now playing a huge part in weddings. It is an art form that can tie your whole wedding theme together. If you love the vintage feel, stick to cursive and flowing letters. Or, if the theme is along the lines of glamour such as “the Great Gatsby” having an art deco font is a great way to add more keen detail to your wedding.

There are two major trends emerging for 2016 wedding flowers – cascading bouquets and succulent accents. The cascade can be comprised of the dominant flower, creating a water-fall from the bride’s hands, or may be accents of greenery. Utilizing succulents in the centerpieces as well as the bride’s bouquet is a great way to add an earthy touch to even the more traditional of ceremonies.

2016 bridal gown trends are delicate details and soft shades. Ivory or champagne, blush or beige, wedding gowns come in a variety of colors! Soft sparkles lying just below layers of tulle and lace give gowns a subtle, delicate, feminine elegance. Brides are also choosing multiple gowns for their big day - a ball gown for the ceremony, an A-line for the reception, a cocktail for the dance. Gone are the days of hideous, wear-once bridesmaid dresses! Full length or knee bridesmaid gown in full sequins give your ladies an elegant Hollywood glamour!

Your wedding is all about the vows, but what people remember is the reception! Whether you went for traditional and soft, or modern and dramatic, your reception décor is where your theme truly comes to life. FLORAL DÉCOR You may opt for flower centerpieces on your tables. Many brides are setting a variety of floral arrangements on their tables, from tall on some to small and short on others. You may also look into having your flowers hanging above you! Not all centerpieces have to be flowers – old wine bottles, books, and succulents also create beautiful table displays. TABLESCAPES Be sure to incorporate your color scheme into your reception. Menu cards and table numbers are a great way to bring back the beauty of your invitations to your reception. Utilizing napkins, chargers and placemats with your colors is a beautiful way to make your reception really pop! LIGHTING Lighting gives your reception a true wow factor! Your DJ should be able to provide you with an uplighting package as well as DJ services. In some venues and themes, dramatic lighting is a great way to set your reception apart. Utilizing the dominant colors of your wedding, as well, is a great way to turn the blank palette of your venue into beautiful masterpiece!

Wedding Tips Things to bare in mind as the big day approaches!

• PICK YOUR DATE WISELY Choosing a day other than Saturday may be less expensive, but it may also require for your guests and wedding party to take more time off of work. Depending on the time of year, that may make it challenging for out-of-town guests to attend. Choose your date wisely!

• TO DRINK OR NOT TO DRINK Whether you like to party or not, having a cash bar isn’t very inviting to your guest. Having everyone getting tanked at an open bar isn’t great either. Try to find an option that will work, like offering a few drink tickets to people or offering free beer and wine. There is a way to find the happy medium between no drinks and free drinks.

• DON’T MAKE GUESTS WAIT You shouldn't have more than 2 hours between ceremony and reception. Plan something fun like a cocktail hour, a tour of downtown, or a wedding scavenger hunt for guests before the reception.

• ANTICIPATE THE NEEDS OF YOUR GUESTS Leave some extra parking spaces toward the front both at the ceremony and the reception for elderly guests. Make sure you have some extra comfortable chairs for people to sit on if need be.

• THINK THE MENU THROUGH Provide alternatives for people who have allergies, dietary restrictions, or are vegan/vegetarians. Having a kids menu is also a good idea! • THINK ABOUT THE WEATHER AND PLAN ACCORDINGLY You can look through the last 50 years of the farmers’ almanac tracking weather trends, but you never know what the weather will be like on your wedding day. If you are getting married outside, it could be hot, it could be cold, it could rain. Face it – it could snow! Make sure you have a back-up plan and that your wedding theme corresponds. • KEEP YOUR GUESTS BUDGETS IN MIND WHEN REGISTERING You and your groom are starting out and you probably need everything to furnish this new life. But your registry should have more than 1000 thread Egyptian cotton sheets, crystal glassware, and big screen TVs. Most likely, your friends and family have lives of their own they have to pay for and many of them may be traveling to your wedding. Your gift registry should have a variety of price points. Sure, your co-workers may team up to buy you something special. But your retired aunt and uncle who still have your cousin living in their basement may need to buy you something a little less expensive – everyone needs new towels!

• GREET EACH GUEST PERSONALLY The trend has been to greet everyone at the wedding either in a receiving line at the back of the ceremony location or to greet them as they are exiting their seats. Whichever way you choose to greet your guest, make sure you DO IT. Pinterest is an infinite well of new trends, unique ideas, and traditional treasures. However… you don’t want your wedding day centerpieces to be an epic Pinterest FAIL worthy of Buzzfeed! Generate ideas, try them out, but be ready to shift your plans and hire a professional if you need to. INSTAGRAM – See something you love? Snap a pic and # it! Gather all of your ideas together with your #soontobemrs. Also, be sure to share your personal # at your wedding with your guests – you know they will be taking a ton of pictures! Have your guests tag them for double tapping later when you have time!

I DO: THE KEY TO A SUCCESSFUL UNION The unknowns of stepping into this union called marriage far exceed the knowns for most couples. We “tie the knot” hoping that it doesn’t come loose before death parts us! And yet before long that relationship will begin to unravel without a clear understanding of what the foundation of that union is. The origin of marriage goes all the way back to the Garden of Eden, when God said, “It is not good for man to be alone; I will make him a companion” (Genesis 2:18). We know from the Scriptures that God formed woman from Adam’s side to be a help and be a blessing to him. God, who is Love, brought love to its fullness when he blessed Adam with his wife. And because God is Love (John 4:24), His love is the foundation and strength of the marriage union. The Apostle Paul gives us an awesome definition of the God kind of love. 1 Corinthians 13:48 says, “Love is very patient and kind, never

If both parties within the marriage union will practice this kind of love on a daily basis, what God has ordained will not fail!

jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. His love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out. If you love someone, you will be loyal to him [and her] no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him. All the special gifts and powers from God will someday come to an end, but love [God’s love] goes on forever.” If both parties within the marriage union will practice this kind of love on a daily basis, what God has ordained will not fail! In the marriage vows, there are two words that we’re all familiar with: “I do”. In Luke 6:4, Jesus is telling the story of two men who built a house

[a family]. He called one of them wise, the other unwise. The wise man accepted his role of “I do” by taking the lead in exercising love within his household, and when the storms of life came against that union (and they will come), God’s love that never fails kept that house together. Booking a venue during their off season may yield a discounted rate. Renting decorations may be more affordable than buying. Explore your options – there is always another option. Look at them and choose what is best for you and your groom. The most important thing to think about when planning a budget is the big picture! Yes – this is the most important day of your life, but the point to getting married is to build a life with your spouse. Starting out $20,000 in debt isn’t the best idea. Nor is spending your parent’s retirement savings!

GENERAL CONTRACT GUIDELINES

• Do you have liability insurance?

• Look over the entire contract. If you don’t understand something, ask them! If you have an attorney, you may want them to review the larger contracts.

• Is there a deposit due and when? • When is the balance due? • What is the cancellation policy? • Do you accept credit cards? • How do you handle unforeseen issues? • Do you have a backup plan if something goes wrong on our wedding day?

GENERAL VENDOR HIRING HINTS • Ask friends and family to recommend service providers and venues that were satisfactory. • Talk to your friends who were recently married. They are an excellent source of knowledge. • The first question to ask potential service providers: Do you have my date open? This will save you time and energy if they do not.

• Make sure your contracts all have the date, time, location and a detailed description of all services and items to be provided by the vendor. • Make sure the contract includes ALL fees and how they apply: late fees, overtime charges, gratuities, open-ended charges, etc. Also make sure they include times, if time sensitive, and try to put a cap on prices if they could get out of control. • Contracts must stipulate the deposit amount, due date and all payments and amounts due. • Do not sign if you do not agree with any part of the contract. Instead, negotiate the details and have a new contract drafted that you feel comfortable signing. • Make sure you get a copy of the contract before you leave with both signatures and the date singed.

• Meet with several vendors in each category before you hire any particular one, even if you really loved the first one you met. • Be sure to conduct an interview with a potential vendor, regardless if you have several great referrals for him or her. Your personalities might clash, indicating a wrong fit for you. • Ask for a tour, samples, demos, previews, pictures and referrals from all your vendors before they are hired. Don’t just take their word for it. • Once you find a vendor you want… don’t wait, book them!

Go Strapless! Exercise is a great way for brides to take out their stresses as they approach wedding day. For women looking to have their arms, back and shoulders to have that strong toned look by their BIG Day I suggest giving yourself six to eight weeks to tone up, the sooner the better. Be sure to follow a well rounded fitness plan that includes cardio and strength training with an added focus on the upper body. For your bicep and back muscles, focus on “pulling” exercises such as different types of curls, pull-ups and rowing. Your tricep will be engaged by many “pushing” type movements like presses and dips. Burn up your shoulders with various shoulder raise and “pressing” type movements. In general, perform 8-15 repetitions for 3-4 sets at least 3 times per week. Brides should also keep in mind they can’t out work poor nutrition. If you want that great body on your wedding day, you need to eat right AND work out! Once you find the dress of your dreams, be sure you put forth the effort necessary to ensure you will look your very best in it. You will want to focus on and play up the assets that your dress will show off. In addition to your regular healthy diet and cardio program, try adding these specific exercises to your regimen. Each exercise should be done 3 times a week in sets of 10 reps and 4 sets per day. Halter, strapless and open back dresses will feature your upper back. Tone those muscles including lats, traps, rhomboids and deltoids by trying the dumbbell raise. Grasp the dumbbells with your arms in front of you, palms facing your body. Slowly raise the dumbbells up until your arms are straight out in front of your chin. Lower slowly and repeat. (Fig. 1) Gowns with straps or plunging or sweetheart necklines will draw attention to your chest. Those muscles include your pecs and deltoids. Try doing a dumbbell chest press. Lie flat on the floor with your arms forming an “L” shape. Extend arms upward until arms are straight over your head and elbows are straight. Then lower using a controlled motion. (Fig. 2) Spaghetti straps, halter and strapless dresses all feature the arms and shoulders, including your biceps and triceps. The dumbbell shoulder raise will allow you to tone those areas. (Fig. 3) Hold the dumbbells with your arms bent at a 90 degree angle and palms facing your body. Lift your arms over your head until fully extended. Lower and raise again.

Holding the dumbbells straight at your sides, take a large step forward. Keep the back leg straight and bend the front leg as you descend as far as you can. Then step forward with the back foot now making this the front bent leg. For more exercise options, be sure to enlist the help of your local gym trainer and fitness experts. our wedding day will be the most important day of the year, and what’s the last thing you want? That’s right, a bad hair day. Your chosen locks should compliment, not compete, with the rest of your attire, so it’s important to do a trial and error with a stylist to determine the right “do” for when you say “I do.” First, like any other booking for the big day, do your research for the right hairstylist for you. Although you may love how your hair dresser colors your hair, they may not be an expert in bridal hairstyles. Come prepared with photos from Pinterest or magazines to show he or she to give them a sense of the idea you would

like. One tip we love is to wear white to your consultation to give you a better idea what you will look like on the big day. Next, time how long it will take to achieve your chosen style and add 30 minutes. Wedding days always have hidden dilemmas, so plan ahead. Try a few different styles, and photograph them at different angles to see if you truly love the hairstyle on you. And lastly, discuss with the hair stylist if they will come to you or if you will go to the salon on the big day. If they are able to come to your location, are they able to stay for touch ups throughout the day?

Choose a hairstyle you are comfortable with. You want to look like yourself on your wedding day.

Plan a practice for your hair and makeup to make sure you like the style and colors. Once completed, take photos of the final look so you can refer to them on your day.

Don’t make drastic changes to your body right before your wedding. Don’t starve yourself or resort to crash dieting. Instead opt for a 4-6 month exercise routine.

Don’t get a brand new haircut before your wedding; just get a trim a few weeks before.

Prepare a reasonable weight loss plan and stick to it!

Don’t have a facial or any other skin treatments within two weeks of your wedding. You want to have time for your skin to recover and you don’t want red blotchy skin.

Eat smaller portions and incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet to keep you satisfied.

For sexy legs, soak in a bath for several minutes to soften hair. Then use a moisturizing shaving gel and shave in the opposite direction of hair growth.

If you are having your makeup professionally done, purchase or ask for samples so that you’ll be able to do touch ups throughout the day.

Carry a supply of blotting tissues so you can keep the shine off your nose and forehead.

Take it easy on the tan. Don’t try to cram in two months

Be sure to let your MOH know what kind of party you would like to have and what you’re hoping to get out of it – gifts or quality time! BRIDAL PARTY FIELD DAY What better way for your bridesmaids & groomsmen to meet than a field day! Channel your inner-child with a little fun competition with sack races, obstacle courses, and other fun contests. This will help any awkward first-time meetings and really bonds your wedding party. NEWLY-WED GAME Before the bridal shower, have the Maid of Honor ask the Groom a series of questions about your relationship, fun facts or interests. Invitation etiquette

T

he guest list is set, but how exactly do you address the envelopes? Who comes first, and what is this “and guest” business? Follow these simple guidelines to get your invitations to the post office in no time.

• Check your guest list to ensure guest names and addresses are correct. • Be sure to use formal names; no nicknames or initials. Always spell out titles or degrees, like Doctor. • Always use Mr. and Mrs. for married couples with the same last name. If the married couple have different last names, then use Mr. and Ms. and place the names on the same line in alphabetical order • If a couple is not married but living together, use Mr. and Ms. and place the names in alphabetical order on separate lines. • Children's names should go on the inner envelope. If you're not using an inner envelope, be sure the children's names go on a separate line under the parents' names. (If children's names are left off of an invitation, it implies they are not invited.) Children over the age of 18 who are living with their parents should receive their own invitation. • Women who are widowed should be addressed using their late husband's name with Mrs. as the title. • When inviting single persons who are welcome to bring a guest, use Mr., Ms. or Miss, followed by their name and "and Guest" on the inner envelope. If you’re not using an inner envelope, put the guest on a separate line. If you know whom he or she will be bringing, feel free to include that person's name on a separate line on the envelope • All words in the address should be spelled out, including street names and other identifiers, like Apartment or Post Office Box. The names of the city and state should also be spelled out. • The return address should go on the back flap of the envelope. FONT PAIRINGS to talk to your designer about

Modern A mixture of Sans Serif typefaces are becoming a popular choice for modern looking invitations for their bold look and high contrast. This invitations uses a large x-height font thats size contrasts well with the same font at a much smaller point size. The range in sizes that this font is displayed in make it a successful invitation design.

Vintage Multiple decorative fonts are used in this invitation design. The contrast between the two is enough of a difference to distinguish hierarchy between the fonts. A condensed font and extended font are also used. These two are used sparingly and on a small scale. Without the use of such different font sizes for this invitation, these four fonts would definitely not go well together. But, by varying the use and size, enough contrast is created to make this invitation clear and communicate well.

A detail that should not be overlooked, your wedding invitations are the very first impression to your guests of the style and tone of your wedding. A successful font pairing can communicate your theme and can be carried over through out all of your wedding stationery.

Traditional A script and serif font pairing are the classic choice when it comes to wedding invitations. Depending on which script you choose, most serif fonts make a good contrast to the curved edges of a script. Even though these typefaces are similar in weight, the contrast between their letter-forms make them pair well together.

Retro This retro-style invitation has a lot of characteristics of a clean, modern design, but uses a few more decorative fonts. A script is paired with a sans serif typeface that uses an outlined version and a regular version. The pairing of the outlined and filled in font is successful because they have such a contrast, and are used in different sizes. This invite is clear and easy to read because of the organization of the list of items. The same font is used for each heading as well as subhead, making it easy for the reader to quickly glance over it and understand the message.

Script fonts work great to add a flourish of elegance to your invitation, but don’t get carried away. The same script font can be used multiple times in your invite, just make sure it is the only script you are using. Many script fonts are similar, so if you use multiple scripts their will not be enough contrast between the two to communicate your message.

t00 many It is easy to get carried away with using too many typefaces in your invitation. Stick to two or three versatile fonts that can carry your wedding theme across all of your stationery. Multiple fonts that are very similar just create confusion and draw attention away from the information.

These two serif font’s may seem similar enough to look the same, but their lack of contrast and similarity make them too alike to communicate well. Always make sure that their is a clear difference in each of the typefaces you are using.

Advice at a Glance • Try to order all stationery items at the same time. • When ordering invitations, be sure to order extras for keepsakes, guests who get added to your list later and extra invitations needed because of mistakes made while addressing them. • If you will be inviting a friend or family member to bring a date but you do not know the date’s name, address the outer envelope to your friend only. On the inner envelope you can include the words “and Guest” after your friend’s or relatives name. • Registry information should be noted on the invitation or included in the envelope.

• The words “request the honor of your presence” are traditionally reserved for religious ceremonies. Phrases like “request the pleasure of your company” or “would be delighted for you to attend” are typically used for a civil ceremony or reception. • If you are unsure about the proper etiquette on invitation wording, consult with your local invitation specialist for his/her recommendations, especially where divorced families apply.

LOOKING FOR dress that de-emphasize lower half and brings width to your upper half. A portrait neckline helps widen your shoulders, as do capped, pouf, balloon, melon, or Juliet sleeves. You may also add a little more to your bodice with an applique, beading, or lace overlay. Look for a plain skirt with high waist line such as an empire waist.

LOOKING FOR dresses that will create curves for you! An A-Line skirt is a great option to accentuate a slender frame which will also give a gentle curve to your frame. A Bateau neckline coupled with a Ball Gown skirt will also help create the illusion of an hourglass shape.

AVOID dresses that will call attention to your

shape, such as the clingy sheath or mermaid styles, and necklines that cut inward such as halters. Also, steer clear of full skirts with heavy folds, ruffles, bows, beading, and bustles. FULL-FIGURED – You have a fuller bust, hips and waistline. LOOKING FOR dresses that create an elongating

The empire waistline sits just below the bust from which the dress cascades down to the floor. Usually made with a lighter fabric, the empire waist helps hide the lower half as well as enhance the bust. This style also helps elongate petite brides!

The Mermaid style is characterized by a fitted skirt through the hips with a dramatic flare at the knee. This style highlights natural curves and is ideal for curvy confident brides! The Mermaid can be very constricting, so if you’re looking for a fun night on the dance floor - a different dress may be better.

The A-Line is recognized by the narrow cut through the bodice with the skirt extending out along the body in the shape of an A. The A-Line is a classic style which fits many brides, but if you are looking for something a little more unique and attention getting, the A-Line may not be right for you.

The Trumpet, often confused with the Mermaid, is a flattering style for curvy brides looking for a little bit more movement in their dress. The Trumpet has more of an A line fit, with a slight flare at the knee through to the hem. It is less dramatic than the Mermaid, but offers brides a little more panache than the A-Line

The Ball Gown is one of the most traditional skirts for wedding dresses. The bodice is fitted with the ball gown skirt flowing from either the natural waist or a drop waist (aligned more with the hip bones). This skirt style is very forgiving of full hips and legs. Look out for the weight of the skirt - that may inhibit your dance moves at the reception!

Knowing the fundamentals of ring care is a great way to ensure ever-lasting beauty. SPARKLING AND SHINY scheduling maintenance appointments with your jeweler at least once a year is important to ensure the prongs are tight, the diamond isn’t loose and there are no hairline cracks in the shank. There is also usually a professional “shine-up” included too. In addition, always remove your ring when cleaning or touching harsh chemicals as bleach or other cleaning agents can dull the finish of a ring – which means less sparkle for you! SAFE AND SOUND Purchasing insurance is a necessity to protect your financial investment in the event that something gets lost, stolen or damaged. You may also strongly consider getting your jewelry appraised every five years as the cost of diamonds and precious metals go up. If you were to lose a ring that was appraised 10 years ago, the insured value would be far less than the actual replacement cost. Also, follow the rule to not remove your ring in public. Since washing your hands in a public restroom is a must, you will need to resist the temptation to remove your ring while you’re lathering up so you don’t have to worry about leaving it at the sink, or dropping it down the drain. CLEAN AND POLISHED Make sure to handle your diamond sparingly since your fingers provide enough oil from your skin to alter the way your diamond looks and always clean your diamond regularly. One simple way to easily clean your ring is to soak the diamond in an ammonia-based household cleaner overnight, once or twice weekly. In the morning, simply remove the diamond form the cleaner and brush it off with a soft, clean toothbrush to remove any leftover dirt. Finally, rinse the ring and diamond with water and wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Not only do you want the tables to look appealing for your guest but, tablescapes should also help capture the overall feel of a wedding. Creating the perfect tablescape can be broke down into these few elements: COLOR Choosing neutrals such as taupe, white, or ivory work great to use as your base table linen color. Then, add in touches of your accent colors. Perhaps add your accent colors with a table runner or overlay. Or use these colors as accents in your flower arrangements. TEXTURE A luxurious table scape always has texture. Whether it be a satin tablecloth or a variety of different floral, make sure to use a variety of texture to add depth and intrigue to your tablescape. AMBIANCE Lighting can impact the feeling of your tablescape dramatically. Add a variety of candle light to set a softer tone for your tablescape. Or perhaps highlight your centerpieces with pin spotted lighting design for a more dramatic feel. No one wants to look at their wedding photos ten years from now and hate their colors. Open your closet – what colors do you tend to wear? What colors have you used to decorate your home? Personal MAKING IT

• You both need to be into it. If only one of you wants to write vows, maybe what you should do instead is write private letters to each other. That way you can still share your heart with each other.

Writing your own vows is a great opportunity to share your commitment to your future spouse with your friends and family during your ceremony. There are some things you need to take into consideration before the big day!

• Check with the officiant. Sometimes they can help you. Sometimes they aren’t allowed. Check first and you will be in the clear!

• Schedule the time to do it. Again… Do not even try to wing it! Your wedding day is a chaotic mess of love and flowers. Don’t leave something as important as writing our own vows to the last minute. Take the time to sit down weeks before hand and think about your relationship, what it means to you, and why you are making this commitment to each other.

• Plan early. You do not want to “wing it” – that only goes well in movies (where someone memorized the script pretending to wing it!)

• Practice OUT LOUD. You will feel silly. Do it while you’re driving. Everyone talks to themselves in the car. You’ll look like all the other crazies driving around.

• Create an outline. Every great speech begins with an outline.

• Don’t forgot to talk about your future together. Your vows are about you as a couple. You may be writing your own vows to back away from the traditional “in sickness and in health…” but remember, those vows are written for a life time.

• Keep it SHORT and sweet. Yes, we are all there for your big day. But please, keep it short, there is a party to get to. • Remember your audience. If you first met because he threw beads at you during Mardi Gras… that may not be the best story to recite during your vows. Saying you were at a parade and your eyes connected through a mass of people and you knew there was something special about him… a much better version of the same story.

PHOTO DISPLAY A photo display may be the easiest. Utilize some beautiful frames which compliment your theme and have them set up at both the reception and ceremony. Displaying pictures of your grandparents’ wedding, if you have them, is also a great way to honor family. Your extended family will love to see these old photos and there is something magi-

cal and timeless about wedding photos from previous generations! If you have the photos displayed at both the ceremony and reception, be sure to assign someone to deliver and set up the display between the ceremony and the reception! JEWELRY Wearing jewelry your grandmother gave you is another great way to honor the matriarchal women of your life. Pendants with family member’s photos or initials also photograph very well and may be a great memory for your wedding photo album for years to come! CANDLES Lighting candles at the altar to remember loved ones is a very common and traditional way to honor loved ones. Just make sure someone remembers to light them prior to the ceremony starting. CEREMONY PROGRAM A simple tribute in the ceremony program is a thoughtful way to acknowledge the loved ones lost in your life.

MOMENT OF SILENCE A moment of silence to remember loved ones is also a great way to incorporate their memory into your wedding, either during the ceremony or before the toasts at the reception. SAVE THEM A SEAT setting aside a chair is also a way to acknowledge the love you have for the person missing. When planning your tribute, be sure to consider the emotional impact it will have on you as well as your guests. If the loved one passing is very recent, emotions may still be sensitive to some of your guests. Be considerate – Honor your loved ones, but remember this day is a celebration of your love and new life together!

10 CATERING TIPS 1. Does price include delivery and setup? Some companies may have a delivery and/or mileage fee. 2. Can I try the food before I decide what I want to order? Most reputable caterers will invite you (and maybe a few guests) to “try” their foods. Be sure to find out - if there are food allergies or dietary restrictions - can the recipes be altered. 3. Are real plates and real silverware included in this price? If not, are they available or will the caterer at least provide disposables? 4. Who is responsible for clean up? Find out if you will need to provide volunteers or if the caterer will take care of bussing off the tables. 5. What kind of service (if any) is included? Will they just set up a self serve line or do they have staff that will actually help serve the meal? 6. Can the head table be served? Some companies may include this service at no extra fee. 7. What if there are more guests than what I paid for? What if there are less guests than what I paid for? Find out in advance if the caterer will have additional food available and how/when the charges will need to be taken care of. planning around dietary restrictions It is very likely you will have guests attend your weddings that are children, vegetarians or have dietary restrictions. The last thing you want to do is not have them feel welcome to eat at your reception. Here are some tips to help you plan your menu so everyone can enjoy your delicious dinner! • Talk to your caterer about different meals they can provide for you at the beginning of the reception planning. Knowing what your options are, and the associated costs, can help you plan accordingly. • Provide options on the RSVP card. This is the first and best opportunity your guests have for making special requests at your reception. If you are already presenting them with an entrée option, make sure to also include a line for children. Also add a line for dietary restrictions. If they are dairy or gluten free, or have if anyone has an allergy, your guests will be able to indicate that on the RSVP card. You can always call and follow up to make sure you know the extent of their restrictions.

• Have a separate serving station. If you are doing a buffet, have the gluten free or vegetarian buffet separate so no one mistakenly fills their plate from the wrong serving tray. Plan for extra as well – there will always be someone who didn’t indicate on their RSVP card they were gluten free who may prefer that option. If you are doing a plated dinner, make sure the servers have a copy of which tables need to receive the different meals. • Don’t let it get to you – if you have guests that choose not to eat, or have the servers bring them a meal different from one indicated on the RSVP card… just let it go. Don’t let this last minute change ruin your evening and fun! It is really hard to plan a meal for 50 – 350 people and have them all happy. Some people will love the food you choose – others won’t! Work with a caterer or venue that is prepared for the inevitable last minute menu changes.

Preserving your

Top tier Weddings bring many traditions, and one of our favorites is to save the top tier of your wedding cake for your first anniversary. To achieve a tasty cake a year from now, you want to preserve it right – so we created a list of steps for you to follow. 1. Remove any decorations or sugar flowers 2. If you have soft icing, you will want to chill the cake so it hardens and will be easier to wrap 3. Wrap the cake in layers of plastic wrap – not tin foil, as this can cause freezer burn 4. Seal the cake in an air tight bag or in an air tight container – we recommend a container so it does not get smashed in the freezer 5. Place in freezer Depending on the cake, some flavors have a longer shelf than others. Be sure to ask your baker their recommendations for preserving the cake or if you should share it after your honeymoon or on your three month anniversary instead.

BEVERAGES • If you plan to serve alcohol, make sure to offer non-alcoholic beverages as well. • If you are having a tasting, be sure that the food will be prepared by the same chef who will cook on the day of your wedding. • It is a common courtesy to offer meals to service providers such as the officiant, musicians, the DJ, the photographer, the videographer as well as their assistants. • It is important to make sure you have an adequate amount of wait staff to serve your guests. If you are having a seated meal, it is best to have one server for every 8-10 person table. If you are having a buffet, it is best to have at least one server for every 25 people.

• It is smart to hire a caterer who carries liability insurance. • If a caterer will not show you an operating license or health permit, don’t hire him or her! • If you are having an outdoor wedding in warm weather, consult with your cake designer about what ingredients will be able to hold up in the heat. • If your cake is going to be topped with fresh fruit, find out when the fruit will be added.You want this to be done as close to the presentation time as possible for the cake to look its best. • Remember that any flowers on or near the cake must be nonpoisonous and free from pesticides.

Choreographed wedding dances We have all seen them lately on social media and the web, mother and son, the couple or the entire wedding party surprising the guests with a dance number! This trend has caught on because it is something out of the ordinary. A choreographed first dance between husband and wife can be ultra romantic! Or on the flip side, it can showcase their goofy side. That is just it, dance can be an expression of their personalities and will create a cherished video they can replay for years to come. If you plan to include a choreographed dance at your wedding do it right! Research videos online and decide what you want to do. Then setup times to get all those participating together to practice. If needed call a local dance studio for assistance. The more you practice the better the dance will turn out. Some DJs will get out into the crowd and do a lot of the entertaining for you! Through songs, a group dance, or a break-dancing contest the DJ you hire can have a big impact on your reception’s success.

THE SHOE GAME The “Shoe Game” is a great ice breaker, and gets a lot of laughs! Set two chairs back to back in the middle of the dance floor and ask the bride and groom to take a seat. Have the maid-of-honor remove both the groom’s shoes and the best man remove the bride’s; then give them each a shoe of theirs and one of their spouse. Then the DJ announces “This game is to show how much the new Mr./Mrs. John and Jane Doe really know about each other… I will ask you a question and you raise the shoe that you think best fits the answer to the question…his shoe for him and her shoe for her.” Sometimes the bride will put up her shoe, and the groom will put up his, and the guests will roar. This can also be done with parents of the bride or groom or other guests. The trick is, do not let the couple know the questions ahead of time.

Advice at a Glance • Be sure to purchase the sheet music for the ceremony and have them delivered to the vocalists/musicians in plenty of time before the ceremony to practice!

• Contracts – You must have them! And they must be signed by both parties.This way everyone is on the same page and everyone is paid for their services.

• If you are having an outdoor wedding, be sure to place musicians in a shaded area!

• Ask for a sample CD or videotape of the prospective entertainment prior to signing any contract.This way you know exactly what you’re getting.

• Have the musicians arrive to set up at least one hour before the ceremony begins! • Always have one or two rehearsals with live musicians! • Consider your reception locale, music can sound completely different when heard on the beach than in a grand ballroom. Make sure you take this into consideration when choosing a band or DJ.

• If you think your reception will last longer than the standard 4 hours, simply hire the band or DJ for another hour. If you decide at the last minute to have your entertainment stay late, you are bound to incur overtime fees, which are much more expensive. • Plan ahead and equip the band/DJ with a do-not-play list, as well as all your favorite tracks.

Bouquets for your wedding day CASCADE Cascade bouquets are becoming more and more popular. This is one of the latest trends in wedding flowers. The cascade bouquet is anchored in a handheld base with the flowers and greenery spilling out in a waterfall of flowers. NOSEGAY A very traditional bouquet style, the nosegay s usually characterized as a small round cluster of flowers, all of similar color and length. Here are some tips for the poses you should definitely do, as well as some extra tips to make the moment is captured flawlessly. THE LIFT Channel your "Dirty Dancing" moves and have a shot of the soon to be husband lifting you off the ground. Don’t worry, it doesn’t need to be like the iconic dance move, even a foot off the ground gives a whimsical and fun feel to your shoot. Couples often make this shot fun and romantic, but no matter what, their personalities shine through. FOREHEAD KISS There is something so timeless about the signature "forehead kiss" picture. It really shows the love between the couple, and the reactions always seem the least posed with their true reaction coming through. THE GAZE This one can feel cheesy to do, but it’s a way to forget the camera is there. Sometimes staring at your photographer can feel uncomfortable, especially at first, but staring into the eyes of the person you want to spend the rest of your life with? Easy. FIND YOUR GLAM TEAM Some boudoir packages include hair and make-up. This will help you feel your best and provide excellent photos. However, if you want to do it all yourself, do a little extra - tease your hair a little more, where a little extra makeup, go a little bit more bold! This allows your features to pop more in the photos. LOOSEN UP When heading to the photo shoot avoid wearing a tight bra, socks, jeans, or anything that would leave an indentation on your skin. This detail can easily be overlooked, but is just as important (plus this allows you to be more comfortable!) OPTIONS, OPTIONS, OPTIONS Bring a variety of outfits, lingerie, robes, accessories, etc. Yes, you may not wear them all but your photographer will know what looks great on camera and you never know if something might rip. If you don’t want to smile at first, or even look at the camera, then don’t. Do what you need to do to warm up, but we can promise you, in the end you’ll feel great about yourself!

Creating a checklist with your photographer is a great way to not only try to stay on task, but also to ensure you have all of the photos you want taken at your wedding. The last thing you want is to miss the opportunity to have that special picture because it was forgotten in the chaos. Professional wedding photographers know what photos they need to get and they will have suggestions and input regarding this list. It is common to have bridal party photos done at a different location than where the ceremony is held. If you do choose an off-site location, be sure to have photos taken of the Bride and Groom at both locations. videographer Yes, yes, everyone has an HD video camera these days, but that does not mean they can capture your wedding day in a meaningful way. There is so much more to a wedding video than just some footage. If you decide to save money and just have Uncle James shoot your wedding, be prepared to be disappointed! The first thing you are going to need to consider is the season in which your photos are going to be taken. It's important to plan your pictures at least six months before your wedding in order to use your photos for save-the-dates and wedding website. Every season has the opportunity to take beautiful pictures, but your outfits should correspond accordingly. Once the season is decided and booked with your photographer, the next step is to pick YOUR outfit. Here are some things to keep in mind: • Consider the season--This one's easy. If you're taking pictures in the fall, kneehigh boots, sweaters and warm colors will compliment your surroundings. Conversely, dresses in bright iced colors look beautiful paired with wedge sandals in the spring time. • Choose solids--By choosing to wear solid colors in your engagement pictures, you are ensuring the attention and camera focus will be on you and your fiancé the entire time. • Choose classic styles--You don't want to have to look back on your engagement pictures five years from now and think "What was I thinking?" By choosing classic styles for your outfits, you will be ensuring the longevity of your photos. • Choose two or three different outfit combinations. When you set your shoot with your photographer, there may be time or location limitations. If you have the opportunity, change into another outfit half way through. Then you have more options in photos to print! • Keep accessories simple--Besides your engagement ring, chose only one other accessory for each outfit. Photography will be one of the first things you decide on when planning your wedding and once you start researching, you will be faced with one question: One photographer or two? A lot of Wedding Photographers these days will photograph solo or have an assistant. Keep in mind a second photographer is different then just a photographer with an assistant. A second photographer is there for more than just carrying bags and straightening dresses. A second photographer carries a camera and shoots along with the first. Being equal allows for a completely different experience for the bride and groom. Here are a few pros to consider and why two is better!

Two photographers can be in two places at once! This is a huge plus. When both photographers are capable of effectively capturing the day, you have the option to split things. This helps when both bride and groom are getting ready at the same time, when you find yourself in a time crunch, or when the bride is walking down the aisle. One

photographer can't capture both the front and back of the bride, but with two photographers carrying the appropriate equipment you can get both of those views. Two photographers means double the artistic views. It is so much easier to capture the little moments between a bride and groom if one photographer is able to stand back and shoot from a distance while the other shooter focuses on posing and the more formal shots. Splitting the work load can really make the day run more smoothly. When time is running out or if pictures are behind schedule, two can split the remaining shots to get them done much more quickly. Two photographers work like an insurance policy. Unfortunately things happen, but double the cameras, double the memory cards and double the back up of photos means if something were to happen chances are you will still come away with a lot of photos from your day.

When shooting together, one can take the lead depending on the situation. All photographers have strengths and weaknesses and working together allows them to fill the gaps that would otherwise be present. It is not at all uncommon for one to set up a couple, focusing on the more formal shots while the second will capture the more candid side of things. TRANSPORTATION TIPS Now that your wedding and reception is all planned, let’s talk about transportation! Here are some helpful tips and things you should know when planning your ride. • How much can you spend? You’re likely to be charged by the hour, which can run around $50-$125 an hour, depending on what you choose. • Who will be riding? You must consider the number of people you want to transport from the wedding to the reception site. Several vehicles may be needed. In this case, you might be able to negotiate a better price for multiple vehicles. • Who should you ask to ride along? Really anyone you want. Arranging transportation for parents, grandparents etc. is a nice gesture.

• Don’t leave too many vehicles behind. Making arrangements for those riding in the reserved vehicles, to get their vehicle to the reception ahead of time, is a great idea. In addition for parents and grandparents, you could ask other family members to drive their cars from the wedding to the reception. • Since you have the vehicle rented, why not see what it would cost to drive home your guests after the reception. This is a great way to ensure that your guests get home safely after the dance. If you arrange this to cut down on costs you could book the transportation company to come back for a 2-3 hour window at the end of the night. Then be sure to let your guests know ahead of time. • Finally don’t forget to ask about gratuity. If it is not included in your rental, be sure to tip your driver!

very country has different legal requirements for marriage and when you are planning your destination wedding, you want to do everything you can to make your dream ceremony meets the requirements … rather than just a really beautiful demonstration requiring a quick elopement upon returning home. Here is a quick list to help get you on the path but make sure to check with your experienced travel agent. They can help you plan every aspect of your destination wedding to ensure you are meeting legal requirements and having the wedding of your dreams!

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

• Certificate of Single Status for each of the parties.

• Passports & Tourist Visas ( they will get them upon your arrival to Mexico)

• All documents must be authenticated by the couples’ nearest Dominican Consulate before they arrive in the country.

• Blood test results (typically performed at your wedding location)

• All documents must be legally translated into Spanish in such consulate or by a legal interpreter in the Dominican Republic.

Whether you decide to take your husband’s last name is up to you. If you do it, there are a lot of different places where you have to change it. This can be a long list and not everything has to be done at once. Many of these organizations can change your name over the phone. Others, Banks and Credit Unions for example, want to see a copy of the Marriage Certificate and your Driver's License before they will change the name on the account.

TO UPDATE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY CARD: These are the items you will need to bring with you to the social security administration offices – allow yourself plenty of time, it could be a long wait. Mondays and Fridays are usually the busiest. • Driver's license • Marriage certificate

PLANNING YOUR WILL: the tough questions Now that you are married, there are a few legal matters you should keep on your horizon, especially if you own property, have children or pets, or own a business. Get a will drawn up. There are a few options out there for getting a will prepared. You can hire a lawyer or fill out a will online. If you have children from a previous relationship, own a business or own multiple properties, hiring a lawyer to draw up your will may be best. If you are just starting out, an online option may be sufficient until you have major life events occur (like having children). The only people who can really give you true legal advice are lawyers – but we have compiled a list of things you and your spouse

should discuss prior to the appointment, so you both know what you would like to happen in the event you both pass.

• PETS – Who would you like to take care of your pets? Do you have life insurance money devoted to their care?

• PROPERTY – If you own a home or property, what do you want to happen to it in the event of your death? Do you want it to be sold? Kept in the family? If it is sold, do you have any person or charity you would want the proceeds to go to?

• SOCIAL MEDIA – It may seem strange to think about, but in all the years of getting MySpace, Facebook, Tumblr, Ello and the next latest and greatest social profile, there is a lot of information about you online. Keep a list of profiles and passwords, as well as, indicating who you would want to resolve those profiles (deactivate them, turn them into memorial pages, etc) in a secure place. This goes for email accounts, too.

• CHILDREN – If you have children, who would you want to care for them? How much life insurance money would you want to be set aside for the children? If they are underage at the time of your death, who would you want to be the trustee of the life insurance money until they are older?

These are important questions to chat over as a couple and decide how you would want a legal will to indicate your wishes.
