Dedicated to Lyra McKee 1990 - 2019

‘Darling, I want my Gay Rights now.” “Rights Now” is the theme for Belfast Pride this year and the inspiration for this comes directly from one of the key figures in the Stonewall uprising, pioneering Trans activist, Marsha P. Johnson who was asked why she was protesting in favour of an Equal Rights bill and answered, matter of factly, “Darling, I want my Gay Rights now.” This year’s Belfast Pride will aim to highlight the rights that are still denied to us a community – Trans Healthcare Rights, Gender Recognition Rights, Fertility Rights, Reproductive Rights, Marriage Equality, the right to inclusive RSE in schools, the right to be free from bullying, discrimination and harassment and the right to improved PREP access and Mental Health Services. Stonewall was a turning point for people who had just had enough and wanted the same basic rights as everyone else in society. The Pride movement grew from Stonewall and we will be marking the 50th anniversary of Stonewall by protesting for the rights denied to us while celebrating the lives and identities of LGBT+ people in Belfast, an important affirmation in an environment where many LGBT+ people state that they feel like second class citizens. Belfast has the most regulated Pride parade in Western Europe even though LGBT+ people here have the fewest rights in Western Europe. Belfast Pride has growing support but remains significantly under funded, Belfast City Council supports Pride but does fund it enough to help the festival grow or develop further and that has to change. We want to see Belfast Pride grow and flourish while staying free and grounded in community. Belfast Pride is about Visibility for LGBT+ people here and we invite the world to join us in protest and celebration. We want our #RightsNow, play your part and show your support. Seán Ó Neill Chair, Belfast Pride

The Belfast Trans Resource Centre is the home for the trans community in Northern Ireland. We’re fundraising to cover our running cost for 2019, which includes paying for the rent, utilities, insurance and other bills. Covering these costs will mean that we’re able to focus on expanding our services to the community - including training, health support services, and educational programs. Currently, the BTRC receives no statutory or other public funding, so your support is vital! (and as a little bonus, there’s a free gift for donors of £10 or more!)

Assemble from 11:30 at Custom House Square Parade leaves at 13:00 sharp ‘Rights Now’ is the theme for Belfast Pride this year inspired by pioneering Trans activist Marsha P. We welcome everyone who supports all LGBT+ people and identities in a spirit of solidarity and mutual support. We want everyone to be safe on Pride Day! Please follow all instructions from Officials and Stewards. Like all parades here, this parade is covered by parading law – you can read the Parades Commission’s Code of Conduct on our website, it applies to everyone taking part.
