The most impactful way to deliver our message is through education. We reach out through television, radio and print to keep the public informed. In the Fall of 2016 the BBB Foundation was incorporated for the purpose of education. Through partnership with the BBB in Denver/Boulder we are delivering a program for ethics and personal brand for students. The program called LIFT (not an acronym) was developed to help students understand the importance of ethics and personal brand. It focuses on how these areas play an important role in all aspects of their lives. LIFT gives them the tools they need to make decisions. These can often be difficult and in some cases, life changing decisions.

This multi-week program teaches youth the importance of integrity and ethics and how both of those concepts affect them right now and in their futures. The workshop and project based learning curriculum offers an introduction to business ethics as well as personal character lessons. These lessons focus on topics like responsibility, character, values, and development. The program concludes with each student presenting their project and signing the LIFT Commitment to Conduct. The LIFT Certification is offered to individual students who complete all aspects of the LIFT program, demonstrate knowledge of ethical standards for the workplace and have signed the LIFT Commitment to Conduct.

HOW TO HANDLE A COMPLAINT Have you ever needed to complain to a business and were unsure how best to handle it? Miscommunication or misunderstanding can often result in confl ict, and itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s not always easy to deal with. Before seeking outside assistance or alternative routes, the BBB offers some starting points and general reminders below:

Understand your responsibilities.

It is up to you to learn company policies before you buy, and to comparison shop and read contracts. Be sure your complaint is reasonable.

Contact the business.

Visit them in person and discuss your concerns in a polite and courteous manner. Start with the individual you were dealing with and give them the chance to resolve the situation. If they cannot, speak with a supervisor or manager.

Treat them right.

Remember that business owners and their employees are human beings. Treat them as you would like to be treated.

Send a letter.

You may wish to send a letter to the business outlining your concerns and expectations, requesting they respond in writing or call you to discuss options to resolve the matter.

Stay organized.

Keep important information such as receipts, contracts, and warranties to help explain your perspective.

Be reasonable.

Always be truthful and open-minded, and be prepared to negotiate fairly and realistically.

Should the parties be unable to resolve the matter directly, the BBB can offer a dispute resolution service. We will act as a neutral third-party in an attempt to help with the communication, in the hopes that a mutual agreement can be found.
