Barkley enters her fourth year as head coach of the Meredith College volleyball team. During the 2009 season the Meredith volleyball team proved to be a strong competitor in the USA South Athletic Conference and produced the most wins the program has seen since 2003. Formerly an assistant coach at N.C. State University from 2004-2005, Barkley trained defensive systems and serving strategy while assisting with all aspects of this ACC team. In addition, Barkley coordinated team travel, support staff, special events, video scouting systems and summer camps. Barkley’s college coaching career also includes time as assistant coach at Lynn University and recruiting coordinator at her alma mater, Elon University. During her time at Elon, she signed several recruits who went on to earn all-conference honors. She finished up her time at Elon in 2003 as interim head coach. As a four-year collegiate letter winner at Elon University, Barkley was named team captain and MVP. For her performance as an outside hitter, she was named to Elon’s 1,000 Digs and 1,000 Kills Club. Barkley earned a Bachelor of Science in Leisure/Sport Management from Elon in 1999. In addition to running the volleyball program, Barkley is also the advisor for Meredith’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee and the Chair of the annual Athletics Golf Tournament. Outside of her duties at Meredith, Barkley works with local youth volleyball programs including the NC High Performance program. During the summers she has worked volleyball camps with such programs as UNC, NC State, Duke, Elon, Furman and Emory. She also hosts summer volleyball camps at Meredith.
