Lauren Scott enters her eighth season as head coach of Meredith College lacrosse with six consecutive conference tournament championships, four regular season titles, four conference Rookie of the Year awards, five Player of the Year honors, and four Coach of the Year selections to her credit.

One of Scott’s most decorated player’s Carlee Joseph was named the 2018 USA South Don Scalf Female Athlete of the Year. Joseph went on to be named the Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was a 2019 nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year honor.

In addition to Meredith’s impact on the field, five of Scott’s teams were named IWLCA Academic Honor Squads, and 12 players have been named to the IWLCA Division III Academic Honor Roll at least once. Her most recent four teams earned the USA South’s Sportsmanship honor for women’s lacrosse, as voted on by student-athletes from conference opponents.

Scott hails from Danbury (Conn.) High School where she served as the girls’ varsity lacrosse coach. In just five seasons, Scott progressed the lacrosse program from a season record of 2-14 in 2003 to boast a State Championship title in 2008.

MEREDITH MOORE Assistant Lacrosse Coach

Meredith Moore joined the Meredith College athletics staff in August 2018 as the assistant lacrosse coach. A four-year NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse player for the University of Vermont, she brings her leadership, sport skills, and contagious passion to the Avenging Angels championship program. A longtime player and mentor of the sport of women’s lacrosse, Moore began her coaching career as a camp counselor for various lacrosse camps and clinics in 2014. She moved into a co-head coach role with 802 Lacrosse in 2015, all while still competing. In September 2017 Moore joined the premiere club program of Sky Walkers Lacrosse in Maryland as a co-head coach and assisted one season with the Manchester Valley High Mavericks.

Athletic Facilities MEREDITH ATHLETIC FIELD AND TRACK COMPLEX Home to Meredith’s lacrosse team, the field and track complex includes a lighted competition level track, a FieldTurf artificial playing surface, and a storage facility. Future phases of the project will include a grandstand, hospitality areas, support facilities, restrooms, brick arcade, and locker rooms.

LOWERY FITNESS CENTER Meredith’s athletic teams benefit from a new, 6,800 square feet, stateof-the-art fitness center that allows for a high quality strength and conditioning program. The Lowery Fitness Center holds 39 pieces of equipment, including 11 treadmills, eight bikes, eight elliptical cross trainers, four ascent trainers, two rowers, and six power lifting racks. Student-athletes also have access to free weights, kettlebells, resistance machines, physio balls, bands, and accessory equipment.

Meredith College Athletics Program THE DIVISION III EXPERIENCE Meredith athletics teams participate in Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Division III athletics offers student-athletes the opportunity to become well-rounded individuals who successfully integrate athletics and academics while experiencing all aspects of college life. Student-athletes who compete at this level can receive academic and need-based financial assistance. The athletic department is staffed and funded like any other department of the College.

ACADEMICS Meredith College’s commitment to academics is exemplified by its athletics teams. Each year, the USA South Athletic Conference recognizes its student-athletes’ hard work in the classroom by naming an Academic AllConference team. In 2019, 52 Meredith students were named to the team. The Meredith athletics program further recognizes student-athletes who earn a 3.5 cumulative GPA as members of the Athletics Director’s Club and those who earn a perfect 4.0 GPA with the Vice-President’s Scholar-Athlete Award.

MEDICAL SERVICES The athletic training staff provides excellent care for student-athletes. The athletic training support staff consists of Head Athletic Trainer Rebecca Edwards and Assistant Athletic Trainer Elizabeth Knight. Dr. Doug Martini of Cary Orthopedic serves as the program’s team physician. In addition, Meredith College serves as a clinical site for undergraduate athletic training programs. Services and equipment provided include a whirlpool, hydrocollator, ultrasound, injury ice, and electrical stimulation.

COMMUNITY SERVICE Members from each team are elected to the Student Athlete Advisory Committee that organizes support for each sport and also coordinates community service. Past volunteer work includes Special Olympics of Wake County, Habitat for Humanity, Service Raleigh, and the USA South Athletic Conference’s Cans Across the Conference and Pennies for a Purpose.
