The invites refer to Droupadi Murmu as “President of Bharat” instead of the usual “President of India.”

Think Life Insurance Is Not For You? Consider These Insights

Life insurance can provide protection to loved ones. But experts say that common misconceptions lead many to assume this important aspect of financial planning is not right for them.

“If you think you can’t afford life insurance or are not eligible, keep in mind that there are many different types of life insurance. Everyone has unique needs, so finding a policy that addresses your circumstances is key,” says Kate Long, consumer financial wellness advocate at Assurance IQ.

To help you navigate the complexities of finding and choosing life insurance, the team at Assurance IQ is debunking some of the most common misconceptions:

Myth: It’s impossible to secure life insurance with pre-existing conditions.

Reality: While it’s more difficult to acquire certain kinds of life insurance with pre-existing health

conditions, you have options. If you are denied a policy, consider enrolling in group life insurance through your employer, as pre-existing conditions may not be considered when signing up. Another option could be guaranteed issue life insurance, which can offer lifetime coverage without a medical exam or any health questions.

Myth: Retired people don’t need life insurance.

Reality: Life insurance is often

viewed as a source of income replacement, but depending on your situation, you may still benefit from coverage even after you retire. For example, if you have debt, like a mortgage or medical bills, life insurance could help your family settle it in the event of your passing.

It can also help fund final arrangements, relieving financial stress during a difficult time. The average cost of a funeral with a viewing and burial was $7,848 in 2021,

making final expense insurance worth considering.

Myth: Buying life insurance is too complicated.

Reality: Approximately 106 million adults in the United States are underinsured or have no life insurance coverage. In a recent survey by Assurance IQ, 15% of those who are uninsured cited lack of knowledge about what kind of policy to get and 12% cited lack of knowledge around how much coverage to get as the reason they’ve elected to forgo coverage.

“Unfortunately, a large portion of today’s population remains uninsured because life insurance sales models weren’t designed to serve everyone,” says Long.

Speaking to a licensed insurance agent who sells life insurance from multiple carriers can help simplify the process.

An agent can ask questions to understand your needs and deliver

personalized recommendations for relevant insurance products.

Myth: Life insurance is too expensive.

Reality: Life insurance may be more affordable than you think. Term life insurance could be a great option for budget-conscious consumers who need to protect their income or pay off a debt.

For example, if you have a mortgage, you might purchase a term life insurance policy for the life of the mortgage so that your spouse could stay in your home in the event of your untimely death.

You can get an estimate of what your term life insurance rates might be with Assurance IQ’s calculator at assurance.com/life-insurance/ term-life-insurance-calculator.

Life insurance can be an important part of financial planning. Before you buy a policy, do your research and understand which type of life insurance is right for you. (StatePoint)

Dispelling Common Misconceptions About Hospice Care

Hospice is intended to provide comfort and support to patients at the end of their life so that they can experience their remaining time in the best ways possible. Experts say that unfortunately, misconceptions about hospice often lead people to make uninformed decisions at a critical, complex juncture in their lives.

“There is often an idea that hospice equates to giving up. But hospice is actually about taking control,” says Paul Mastrapa, president and chief executive officer of Interim HealthCare Inc. “It’s the job of the hospice team to understand what a patient’s goals for end-of-life care are, and help them live that last trajectory of their life the way they want to.”

To help patients, their caregivers and family members, and those in the healthcare industry better understand the services and benefits hospice provides, Interim HealthCare is dispelling some of the most common misconceptions:

Myth: Hospice means giving up.

Fact: The primary goal of hospice is delivering comfort, support and specialized medical care to those ready to forgo curative treatment. Research has shown that a person who spends time on hospice has a greater quality of life at the end of their life. And while the goal is not to prolong life, there are statistics that show that hospice gives patients more time compared to patients who had the same disease trajectory and didn’t receive hospice.

Myth: Hospice is only appropriate for the last few days of life.

Fact: Hospice can actually last for months, and entering hospice sooner rather than later translates to fewer hospitalizations, better symptom relief and greater comfort.

Myth: You must give up all your medications.

Fact: While the hospice care team will make recommendations about which medications are still beneficial to a patient at their stage of illness, patients and families get the final say.

Myth: Hospice is a place.

Fact: Hospice can entail in-patient care, but more typically, services are delivered wherever a patient calls home. The nurse, social worker, spiritual care provider, aide and other members of the hospice care team meet the patient where they are, be that in a residential home, an assisted living community or in another institutional setting.

Myth: Hospice is only for patients with specific diseases.

Fact: Anyone with a life-limiting chronic disease, from congestive heart failure to pulmonary disease to Alzheimer’s, can choose hospice.

Myth: Hospice ends when the patient dies.

Fact: Hospice providers often offer support to those who have lost a loved one. In the case of Interim HealthCare, bereavement services are offered for 13 months.

Myth: Hospice work is draining.

Fact: When done right, hospice work can be extremely rewarding. Hospice care workers help patients and families find peace of mind, and reach a place of acceptance during a complicated and emotional time in their lives. Hospice workers believe in the mission of providing compassionate, patient-

centric medical care and support to those at the end of their life, and they’re given a voice in the individualized care they provide.

The hospice market is the secondfastest growing healthcare segment nationwide, according to Bank of America research, which translates to a growing number of job opportunities. Hospice providers are currently recruiting candidates just starting out in their career and those looking to make a change. To learn more, visit careers.interimhealthcare.com.

For more information about hospice care services for yourself or a family member, visit https://www. interimhealthcare.com/services/ hospice/.

“Although people don’t always feel comfortable talking about endof-life care, having these conversations can ensure one’s final days are peaceful and fulfilling,” says Mastrapa. (StatePoint)

How To Help Keep Your Child Safe And Healthy This School Year

As students return to classrooms, doctors say that it’s important to ensure that children are up-to-date with routine childhood vaccinations.

“The evidence around vaccinations is abundantly clear; they’re safe, effective and will help protect you, your loved ones and your community from preventable diseases.

If you have questions about vaccines, their safety, or effectiveness, please speak to your physician. We are here for you, eager to answer your questions, and ensure your family is protected,” says Jesse M. Ehrenfeld, M.D., M.P.H., president of the American Medical Association (AMA).

In an effort to promote a safer, healthier school year for everyone, the AMA is sharing these vaccine facts and insights:

• Vaccines are safe, effective and save lives. Routine childhood immunization is highly effective at

preventing disease over a lifetime, reducing the incidence of all targeted diseases, including measles, mumps, rubella, polio and chickenpox. For the U.S. population in 2019, vaccines prevented more than 24 million cases of disease.

• The benefits of vaccines can be quantified. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), vaccination of children born between 1994 and 2021 will prevent 472 million illnesses, almost 30 million hospital-

izations and more than 1 million deaths, saving nearly $2.2 trillion in total societal costs, including $479 billion in direct costs.

• Vaccination rates have fallen. Even before the rise in vaccine misinformation and disinformation associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccine hesitancy was increasing, elevating the risk of community outbreaks, which put under-and unvaccinated children at risk for serious illnesses, like measles.

According to a mid-January 2023 report from the CDC, vaccination coverage decreased in most states for all vaccines among kindergarteners for the 2021-22 school year when compared with the previous school year, which was already below pre-pandemic levels.

• Speak to your child’s physician. With increased misinformation around vaccinations, it is critical that you seek out reliable, evidence-based sources for information.

These sources may begin with websites like getvaccineanswers. org, but they should also include your child’s physician.

Physicians can also answer questions on the new monoclonal antibody therapy, nirsevimab, avail-

able for infants and children under the age of 19 months, for the prevention of RSV disease.

• Don’t let cost be a barrier. Programs like Vaccines for Children (VFC) are federally funded to provide no-cost vaccinations to children whose families otherwise could not afford them. Parents can learn more by contacting their state or local health department.

“Make an annual well-child visit and immunizations a part of your household’s back-to-school routine,” says Dr. Ehrenfeld.

“Doing so will protect you and your family from a number of preventable illnesses. It’s something I do for my own children, and I urge you to do so, too.” (StatePoint)

Does Your Student Need Internet Access? Here’s What To Know

With students back in the classroom, providing the resources they need to be successful is top of mind for parents and educators.

Yet for the millions of students limited by lack of internet access, their education hangs in the balance.

Today, one in five U.S. households lack this essential resource, highlighting equity disparities for students across the country.

T-Mobile’s Project 10Million, a $10.7 billion nationwide initiative aimed at helping to close the digital divide in education, is offering free internet connectivity and mobile hotspots to up to 10 million eligible K-12 student households.

Coral Almazan knows from her own high school experience the power and importance of having internet access.

Almazan and her family signed up for Proj-

ect 10Million during her sophomore year. She graduated from high school in June with honors and an Associates of Arts degree in cybersecurity, thanks to having internet connectivity that allowed her to also tackle college courses through a local running start

OFFICE OF POLICE OVERSIGHT

program. She credits her success, and the fact she’s now starting a bachelor’s program this fall, to her hard work and dedication and to Project 10Million.

“Having me, my parents and my three siblings all doing our work at the same time, watching videos and online lessons, doing Zoom calls — our internet slowed down to the point where I couldn’t really use it for school,” says Almazan.

The Community Police Review Commission (CPRC) serves as a resource to the community to address concerns regarding the Austin Police Department. CPRC volunteers are appointed by the City Manager.

Involvement in the CPRC requires 10-15 hours per month on review of case investigations, community meetings, and trainings.

If you are interested in joining the Community Police Review Commission, visit austintexas.gov/community-police-review-commission to learn more about eligibility requirements and apply.

“Once I got the T-Mobile hotspot and service, I didn’t struggle as much, and it made doing my classwork so much easier. I don’t think I could have been able to get through high school without the hotspot.”

Today, internet connectivity is a basic need for remote and hybrid learning, allowing students to effectively complete homework assignments, research, collaborate with peers and communicate with teachers.

Fortunately, T-Mobile’s Project 10Million is an ongoing initiative that is offering hotspots and internet connectivity to eligible students.

Almazan encourages families struggling with internet connectivity to look into Project 10Million. Students and parents can check eligibility and sign up for the program today by visiting www.t-mobile.com/p10m.

According to advocates and educators, having internet access and working to close the digital divide not only opens doors, but also helps create a level playing field for all students. (StatePoint)

How To Prepare Physically And Financially For Severe Weather

Severe weather can have a sizable impact on your home and your savings. Taking steps to prepare can help you maintain peace of mind should a hazard impact you. Freddie Mac offers the following preparation tips for homeowners:

Protect Your Investment

A home insurance policy is an important layer of protection, generally providing you with the funds needed to repair a damaged property to its condition prior to an incident. Here, coverage can vary greatly depending on the company and plan you choose.

To avoid surprises, it’s important to review your policy carefully and make sure you understand what is and is not covered. For example, flooding is not generally covered by homeowner’s insurance, so if you live in an area at risk of flooding, consider a separate flood insurance policy.

Working with your insurance agent or broker can help you determine the types of plans and coverage that make sense for your budget, property and possessions.

Keep in mind that after a disaster strikes, you will need to list your possessions and verify any losses for an insurance claim. Taking a home inventory beforehand will make the process much easier.

Establish a Saving Strategy

Create an emergency fund with a goal of saving enough money for three to six months of regular expenses.

It’s best to keep your emergency fund separate from your regular savings account unless there’s an extreme need.

While this can be challenging for any family, households that have emergency budgets in place tend to be better prepared to face disaster. Any resources you can put away will help you be more resilient if the time comes.

Secure Your Home

Regular home maintenance can help protect against the dangers of natural disasters, such

as flooding and hurricane-force winds. Cleaning gutters and drains, for example, can prevent water from collecting around your home.

You should also be sure you have a sump pump in good working order, and that your foundation and roof are in good condition. If a storm is in the forecast, clear your lawn of items that may be damaged, destroyed, lost, or cause damage to your home.

You should also cover windows and shut off utilities. Many of these precautions can also protect against tornadoes, which can develop quickly and often arrive without warning.

Make Safety Upgrades

Before buying a particular house, you may want to consider the area’s history of natural disasters, and take stock of the home to ensure it’s up to code and has the safety features needed to protect you and your family.

Whether you’re a current or prospective homebuyer, you can reference information provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (known as FEMA) to help

you assess which hazards could impact your home, and identify relevant safety upgrades that can strengthen its defenses.

For example, earthquake damage may be mitigated by installing flexible gas line connections to prevent leaks and fires and by securing exterior structures like decks, porches, garages and carports.

Homes at risk of storm surge could benefit from reinforced garage doors that can withstand water and high winds, storm shutters, high-impact glass windows, and flood-resistant insulation and flooring.

Depending on the scope of renovations, you may consider taking out a loan to cover the costs. There are a variety of refinance products available that allow you to leverage your home’s value to fund renovations. Talk to your lender to find the right financing option for you.

For additional emergency preparation tips, check out Freddie Mac’s collection of homeownership resources found at myhome.freddiemac.com.

Natural disasters are hard to predict. But being prepared can help you weather the storm, both physically and financially. (StatePoint)

Biden Creates Federal Office Of Gun Violence Prevention

President Biden on Friday announced a new office dedicated to gun violence prevention, his latest effort to combat a growing national crisis through executive action instead of the more sweeping reforms that would require congressional approval.

The office will be led by Vice President Kamala Harris, who pursued gun safety measures when she was California’s top prosecutor.

Its focus will be on helping the administration coordinate gun policy and pressing congressional leaders to act on the issue.

“We all want our kids to have the freedom to learn how to read and write instead of duck and cover, for God’s sake,” Mr. Biden said during remarks in the Rose Garden, where survivors of school shootings were among the hundreds of attendees.

The announcement comes as Mr. Biden, who is running for re-election, tries to reenergize the record number of young voters

who turned out in the 2020 election, many of whom say they are motivated by the horrors of gun violence in America.

“We’ve reached that point today, in my view,

where the safety of our kids from gun violence is on the ballot,”

Mr. Biden said.

Mr. Biden was introduced by Representative Maxwell Alejandro Frost, Democrat of Florida and the first Gen Z member of Congress.

He previously was an organizer of the youth advocacy group March for Our Lives, which was started by students who survived the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre in Parkland, Fla.

“As the youngest member of the United States Congress and the first member of Gen Z, I’m often asked what got me involved in this work,” said Mr. Frost, who was 15 when a gunman killed 20 first graders and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School. “And the answer is quite simple. I didn’t want to get shot in school.”

The American political system has been deadlocked for more than a decade on major changes to gun laws, despite a steady drumbeat of horrifying shootings. Gun violence has become the leading cause of death among young children.

Even with majorities in both houses of Congress during Mr. Biden’s first two years in office, Democrats were unable to pass an assault weapons ban, and any effort now is almost certain to fail in the Republicancontrolled House. (Coutresy: https://www. nytimes.com/)

Why Advocates Are Urging For More Protections For The World’s Oceans

A new report has found that expanded industrial fishing, ocean warming, acidification and pollution are having severe impacts on the health of the oceans and, in turn, the health of the planet. Oceans regulate our climate, and make life possible for humanity on this planet.

The Greenpeace International report, “30x30: From Global Ocean Treaty to Protection at Sea,” presents a new global analysis of the threats facing oceans and argues for urgent intervention, setting out a political roadmap to meet the United Nations’ goal of protecting 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030 under the new UN Ocean Treaty.

The launch of the report is just the beginning of a years-long campaign where Greenpeace ships will conduct research around the world. This research will inform a science-based approach to the call on leaders to ratify the Treaty and protect the world’s oceans.

The Treaty, which advocates say is one of the most important international conservation agreements in history and the first focused on conserving marine life on the high seas, opens for signing on September 20 at the United Nations General Assembly.

“This report shows that the threats to marine life pervade nearly every corner of the world’s oceans and makes it clear that immediate action is needed to stem the rising tide of destruction,” says Arlo

Hemphill, Greenpeace USA’s senior ocean campaigner.

Here are some of the report’s key findings:

• Ocean temperature levels broke records in 2023. Heating, coupled with acidification and deoxygenation, is changing the chemistry of the oceans. This has wide-reaching impacts on ocean ecosystems and biodiversity and disrupts the vital role oceans play in regulating Earth’s temperature and climate.

• Using data from Global Fishing Watch, Greenpeace International investigators estimated that high seas fishing hours in areas scientists have recommended for protection increased by a staggering 22.5% between 2018 and 2022. What’s more, much of the most common fishing gear is destructive, hooking anything in its path and putting many additional species at risk.

• Pollution, including plastics, continues to worsen. This is having devastating impacts on marine life and ecosystems. Shipping leads to chronic oil and noise pollution on the high seas, and there is always a risk of accidents and spills.

• Emerging risks threaten ocean health. For example, deep sea mining, an industry that is still in the experimental phase, is particularly harmful to critical and fragile deep sea ecosystems. While many governments support a global ban or a moratorium on deep sea mining,

many more still need to take action to stop the launch of this destructive industry.

• Fully or highly protected ocean sanctuaries, which provide a safe haven for marine life to recover and thrive, are a proven solution

Storm Doors

After extreme weather events, it’s common to evaluate exterior home products and to feel a sense of urgency about replacing them if they’re not providing proper protection. One addition that homeowners should consider is a storm door, however, experts say it’s important not to rush the decision.

“Storm doors provide insulation, curb appeal, and weather protection for the entry door, but they are not one-size-fits-all,” says Brandon Morris, entry and storm door product manager at ProVia, a manufacturer that carries several brands of customizable aluminum storm doors. “Before making a purchase, first determine your needs and style preferences.”

to the ocean crisis.

Currently, less than 1% of the high seas are adequately protected.

Three

sites are presented as case studies for protection under the Global Ocean Treaty: the Sargasso Sea, Emperor Seamounts and South Tasman Sea/Lord Howe Rise, all of which are critically important in terms of biodiversity and their vulnerability to the impacts of climate change and industrial fishing.

This winter, don’t get caught out in the cold when it comes to heating costs. There are things you can do now to help save money

4. The average life of a furnace is 15-20 years, so be prepared when it comes time to replace. Oftentimes, people wait to buy a new furnace

by reducing your energy consumption.

Consider these tips from the experts at Carrier to help you reduce usage and home heating costs this season.

1. One of the easiest ways to save on your heating bill is turning the heat down to the lowest setting you are comfortable with. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, turning the temperature down an additional 10-15 F while you are sleeping or away can help save about 10% a year on energy costs.

2. Installing a programmable thermostat can make turning down the heat automatic. Depending on the model, you can set different temperatures for when you are home, away or asleep. Better yet, a WiFi-connected smart thermostat can make automatic adjustments and is controllable remotely using a smartphone.

3. Keep up with regular maintenance of your home heating system so it runs efficiently. Change your filter as recommended by the manufacturer and have a professional conduct an inspection and tune-up before the weather gets cold and appointments become harder to get.

A dirty or clogged furnace filter can cause your furnace to work harder than needed and waste energy in the process. According to the experts at Carrier, regular, routine maintenance and cleaning can help your furnace

until their current system breaks down and have to resort to buying what’s in stock.

Planning ahead lets you shop for a system that’s right for your home and preferences. Right now may be a good time to consider replacing your aging furnace with available manufacturer promotions, energy company incentives and tax credits associated with the Inflation Reduction Act.

5. If you replace your furnace, consider switching to a high efficiency model. They offer a higher level of comfort and energy cost savings. Many homeowners are opting for higher efficiency heat pumps, units that handle both heating and cooling. They are powered by electricity and a growing choice for consumers who want to use less fossil fuels.

For example, Carrier’s award-winning Infinity line is among the most energy efficient on the market and operates down to -15 F.

6. Check for drafts around doors, windows and other openings. Seal with caulk or weatherstripping. Also ensure your home is insulated properly. Some utility companies offer to check your home’s insulation for free. Having less cold air to heat can yield considerable cost savings.

Being prepared for cold weather can help save money in the long run. Find more tips at Carrier.com/Residential. (Family Features)

Playtime Ideas For Creative Kids

Playtime is more than just a way to pass the time. For creative kids, it’s an opportunity to build things, express themselves and imagine new worlds and ideas.

Here are some fun playtime ideas you can try at home:

Make Board Games

Break out the poster board and craft supplies and encourage kids to design their own board games, complete with tokens, pieces, cards and whatever other elements their game calls for.

Whether they construct a game of skill, chance or both, they’ll have fun drafting the rules for their very own game concept. Don’t forget to name and then play the finished creation!

Build a Race Track

For kids who love racing vehicles and building things, a unique new line of track sets lets them make

a fun stunt track set right out of the box. They can then add to the fun by upcycling household items

shipping boxes and everyday objects to build out epic, prehistoric courses.

playset.

Build a Fort

On rainy days, there’s nothing cozier than building a fort using chairs, blankets and pillows.

Once the fort is complete, use the space to play pretend, craft, draw, paint or simply bring in a stack of books and use it as a reading nook.

Stage a Talent Show

All the world’s a stage, includ-

ing the living room or backyard! Transform the space into a theater by setting out chairs and creating a backdrop for the stage using a curtain or mural created by the kids on repurposed fabric or butcher paper.

Pick an emcee and encourage everyone to demonstrate a special skill or talent for the audience.

Be it yo-yoing, juggling or dancing, make sure everyone who wants one gets a turn.

By infusing creativity into playtime, you can make these experiences more engaging, while having a whole lot of fun. (StatePoint)

Tips To Stay Connected During Natural Disasters

Natural disasters can occur anywhere, at any time. Having a plan to stay connected during emergencies is essential. In the midst of a natural disaster, you’ll want to stay informed of local conditions and recommendations, be able to alert loved ones of your safety status, and have the peace of mind that comes with knowing you have a way to reach emergency personnel.

September is National Preparedness Month and to help ensure you stay connected during natural disasters, T-Mobile is offering the following tips to follow before and during a disaster:

Before a Disaster

• Check NOAA’s National Weather Service and the National Hurricane Center to get tips and track storms.

• Ensure your disaster kit or go bag includes a list of emergency numbers, chargers and waterproof, resealable bags.

• Stay abreast of current conditions and forecasts by downloading the

Red Cross and FEMA apps and by subscribing to local authorities’ text alerts and social media channels.

• Enable Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on your phone. WEA is a public safety notification system that enables authorized agencies to send messages to those with capable wireless devices alerting them of emergencies in their area.

• Check the T-Mobile Newsroom

for the latest information on the wireless service provider’s emergency response. Companies like TMobile have emergency response teams working to ensure they are ready to keep communities, first responders and individuals connected when it’s needed most.

During a Disaster

• Be ready for power outages and other interruptions. Keep your mo-

bile devices fully charged and enable your phone’s battery-saving mode and dark mode to conserve charge.

• Keep calls (and all device usage) to a minimum and make conversations as brief as possible. Or, consider sending text messages instead. During times of congestion, texts are more likely to go through than calls.

• Have a charged portable power bank for your phone handy as back-up.

• Ensure you have a way to make important calls should regular cellular coverage be limited or unavailable. For example, if you are a T-Mobile customer, you can set up

Wi-Fi Calling to do so. If you call 911 using Wi-Fi Calling, give the operator your address. Natural disasters are on the rise in the United States and globally, making it important to be prepared.

As part of your planning, be proactive about ensuring you have a way to stay connected, informed and in touch with those who matter most to you, come what may. (StatePoint)

What Every Parent Or Caregiver With Kids In Childcare Needs To Know

Childcare is essential for families across the United States. Millions of children attend childcare every day, and millions of parents and caregivers rely on it.

While advocates and many Americans agree that care should be accessible and affordable to all who need it, there’s a fast-approaching deadline that could put that at risk.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, childcare providers were under enormous strain.

The federal government responded with a nearly $24 billion investment to support providers.

This investment enabled them to pay workers, buy cleaning supplies, pay mortgages and respond to rising food costs. But those additional investments are ending on September 30.

According to recent research, this

so-called “childcare cliff” could mean 70,000 childcare programs close, and approximately 3.2 million children lose their care spots.

The country could lose 232,000 childcare jobs. In short, a collapse of a system that families across the country rely on daily.

This near-term cliff is consistent with longer-term lack of investment.

More than half of the U.S. population lives in a childcare desert.

Working families with the lowest wages spend up to one-third of

their income on childcare, a significantly higher percentage than families at other income levels.

The median wage for a childcare worker is less than $12 an hour, consigning many to poverty and food insecurity.

Even before the pandemic, the childcare system was falling short, despite the best efforts of many workers, providers and advocates.

But childcare has a huge positive impact. Childcare can set children up for success: improved physical, mental, social and emotional health and wellbeing as well as stronger academic performance.

It can also ensure stability for families. Few supports have such a pro-

found impact on families’ ability to thrive.

If you are a parent or guardian with a child in a care setting, talk to your provider.

Ask them if they are aware of the September 30 deadline, and how they think it might impact them as a provider or participating families.

If you want to advocate for change, visit ChildCareForEveryFamily.org to see how you can get involved.

They’re a network convening families, organizations and providers locally, in states and nationally, to develop shared strategies to fundamentally transform childcare. (StatePoint)

How To Handle Furniture Spills, Stains And Dents

Furniture is what makes a house a home, however new research shows daily life leaves fixtures and fittings vulnerable to damage.

In its “Furniture Damage Survey,” Allstate Protection Plans found that more than 242 million Americans have damaged furniture, and 37% of damaged items were less than a year old. Here are some of the survey’s top findings, along with advice for saving time and money on repairs and replacements:

• The Financial Hit: An estimated $23.5 billion has been spent by 82 million Americans replacing and repairing damaged items. The average cost of furniture repairs runs at $287. Almost half (49%) of damaged furniture originally cost more than $500 and nearly a quarter (21%) cost more than $1,000. The majority of people who damaged furniture (51%) say they spent additional money repairing or replacing it.

• Hot Seats: Sofas are by far the most damaged item (34%), followed by dining room tables or chairs (11%), kitchen tables or

chairs (9%), and recliners or other living room seating (8%). Most furniture (57%) was damaged in the living room, with 15% of incidents happening in the dining room, 9% in the master bedroom and 6% in the kitchen.

• No Thrills from Spills. The leading cause of damage is spills, accounting for 54% of furniture damage. Other top causes are breaks

(20%), dents and scratches (18%), rips or tears (17%) and burns (6%). Beverages are the dominant offenders for spills (48%) followed by ink/paint/ marker (16%) and food (10%).

• The Cover-Up: Almost half (46%) of people who have damaged furniture reported that they tried to fix or clean the items themselves. However, only 56% of those who took a DIY approach say their efforts were successful. Sixty-one percent of Americans have tried to hide or cover up damage.

• Don’t Blame the Kids or Cat:

Adults in the household are the most likely to cause damage, with children only accounting for 26% of incidents. When it comes to four-legged friends, dogs are 2.4 times more likely to have damaged furniture than cats.

• Prevention and Cure: To prevent damage, Americans apply prestain treatments (37%), put towels or sheets over furniture (36%), and place slipcovers or plastic sheeting on furniture (28%). When the worst occurs, the majority of people say they are most likely to turn to their homeowners or renters insurance for help.

Only 16% of respondents said their furniture was covered by a protection plan and fewer than half (48%) were aware such plans were available for furniture.

“People are used to investing in protection plans for their appliances and electronics, but they don’t give as much thought to protecting their furniture,” said Jason Siciliano, vice president and global creative director at Allstate Protection Plans.

“This is surprising given the data behind how frequently people must repair furniture and how costly it is to do so. Investing in a protection plan at the point of purchase is only a fraction of the cost of a new couch.”

Furniture protection plans cover repairs or replacements without claims negatively impacting homeowners or renters insurance premiums.

Beyond purchasing protection plans, Siciliano also recommends extending the life of furniture with such measures as pet-proofing and using the right cleaning solution for each type of upholstery or material. For more information on protecting prized possessions, visit: allstateprotectionplans.com.

Rips, spills and stains are part of life, but spending a fortune repairing and replacing furniture doesn’t have to be. With advance planning, those inevitable incidents and accidents won’t break the bank. (StatePoint)

5 Facts About NTM Lung Disease

Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) lung disease is a serious condition that can cause permanent lung damage, even if you have no symptoms.

More than 86,000 people are likely living with NTM lung disease in the United States, and rates appear to be increasing, especially among women and older age groups.

The American Lung Association, with support from Insmed, is sharing five fast facts to help you better understand this progressive disease:

1. Treatments vary. How NTM is treated depends on the type of organism causing the infection, the severity of symptoms and your health history.

Treatment of NTM lung disease varies from person to person and can last for a prolonged period of time.

2. Current guidelines. The progress

of treatment will be monitored by collecting sputum samples. Once achieving a negative sputum culture, the 2020 NTM Guidelines recommend continuing your treatment regimen for 12 months post culture conversion.

Because NTM lung disease can be

challenging to clear from the body, it’s a good idea to seek care from a pulmonologist or infectious disease specialist that specializes in NTM lung disease.

3. Side effects. Some of the medications you may be prescribed may cause side effects. It is important

to talk to your healthcare provider about possible side effects and how to manage them.

4. Clinical trials. There are clinical trials available for those living with NTM lung disease.

Participating in a clinical trial supports medical advances and can help you access treatments. See if one is right for you.

5. Finding support. Having the right support while treating your NTM lung disease may help you follow your treatment plan.

The Lung Association recommends patients and caregivers join

the Living with Lung Disease Support Community to connect with others facing this disease.

You can also ask your healthcare provider about lung disease support groups in your area, or look online for a Better Breathers Club near you.

To talk to a trained respiratory professional who can help answer your questions and connect you with support, call the Lung Association’s Lung Helpline at 1-800-LUNGUSA.

For more information about NTM and lung health, visit lung.org.

Everyone inhales NTM into their lungs as part of daily life. Unfortunately for some, this exposure can result in infection.

Having the facts and tools you need to understand NTM lung disease can help you get the support you need. (StatePoint)

Radiation Exposure Benefits Could Soon Help More Americans

The blockbuster movie “Oppenheimer” put the spotlight on America’s efforts to build up its nuclear capabilities during the Manhattan Project and the Cold War era.

“This is the closest we’ve ever been to getting uranium workers who worked after 1971, and Downwinders, the compensation and benefits they deserve,” said Tim Lerew,

Nuclear weapons testing, such as the Trinity test featured in the film, created radioactive fallout that drifted downwind across the United States and is linked to cancers and other illnesses.

The mining and processing of uranium created health risks as well. Now, Congress is considering bipartisan legislation to expand compensation and benefits to more people who got sick from these exposures.

The Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) already provides compensation and benefits to some uranium workers and a limited number of individuals who lived downwind of the atomic testing sites, but new bipartisan legislation would expand the coverage to a wider geographic area. When it was first passed, RECA covered Downwinders from parts of Utah, Nevada and Arizona, but the legislation now being considered would expand the coverage area to then-residents of New Mexico, Colorado, Idaho, Montana and Guam and previously excluded areas of Nevada, Utah and Arizona, as well as to Missouri where Manhattan Project waste was stored.

It would also make coverage available to more uranium industry workers and extend the program for 19 more years.

The updated RECA legislation is part of the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act, expected to be finalized and voted on by the end of the year.

Efforts to extend RECA benefits to more Downwinders have been ongoing for years, but advocates are hopeful that, this time, they may finally gain support.

chairman of the national advocacy organization, Cold War Patriots.

Cold War Patriots is a division of Professional Case Management, a leading home healthcare provider for nuclear weapons and uranium workers.

“We’ve been down this road before but have never gotten this far.

Today, we have cause for optimism since we now have support from both sides of the aisle to do right by these dedicated uranium workers, as well as the Downwinders who were unknowingly exposed to radiation from nuclear testing.”

As part of its advocacy efforts to strengthen RECA benefits, Cold War Patriots has created a number of educational resources that can be accessed at coldwarpatriots.org/ strengthening-reca. These materials provide more information about the program, including contact information for members of Congress.

“The nearly $900 billion Defense Bill, of which the updated RECA amendment would be a part, is a must-pass piece of legislation that will receive priority attention by Congress this fall,” said Lerew.

“So it’s important that Congress be aware of the groundswell of support for the strengthened RECA legislation.

This is the time to act. We need people to contact their Congressional leaders before Congress votes and let them know how strongly they support this life-changing legislation.” (StatePoint)

6 Ways Parents Can Prep Little Ones For Child Care

Long days of school, first trips to day care or even a return from a period of at-home care can be difficult or downright nerve-wracking for parents and children alike. This new adventure can bring challenges from keeping children healthy to supporting their nutrition and more. Sending a little one to day care can even result in maternal separation anxiety. To help alleviate some of the anxiety and parental concerns, the childhood nutrition experts at Gerber teamed up with Dr. Whitney Casares – a board-certified practicing pediatrician and creator of “Modern Mommy Doc” – to share these tips for families preparing their little ones for child care.

Keep Important Factors Top of Mind

As part of appreciating the milestone of the first time at day care, Casares encourages parents to remember that, while daunting, day care means new experiences, new friends and opportunities for growth, fun and healthy develop-

ment. As part of the transition, she suggests paying attention to critical factors like sleep, nutrition, illness prevention and emotional development.

Support Their Immune Systems

Offer little ones a diverse array of nutritious foods during the transition to day care. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains is essential for building immune

systems. Additionally, iron-rich foods like iron-fortified baby cereals, eggs, beans and meat are critical for a strong body. Caregivers should frequently wash hands and focus on good sleep hygiene.

Put Nutrition on the Menu

When packing lunch boxes for a day of care, it’s important to keep nutrition in mind. Once children transition to finger foods, Casares

recommends snacks from Gerber like Peach Puffs, Fruit and Veggie Melts and Wonderfoods Superfood Hearts, which come in a variety of flavors and include vital nutrients to optimize health.

Be Prepared for Separation Anxiety

Not all infants and toddlers experience separation anxiety, but many can, so it’s good to be prepared. Casares encourages parents to pack a familiar swaddle blanket in infants’ diaper bags to help ease those anxieties. Some toddlers benefit from having a beloved stuffed animal or blanket with them. Try introducing these transitional objects to little ones early so they smell and feel familiar when dropoff comes around.

Pack the Essentials

While nutritious foods, like Gerber Fruit and Veggie Pouch Blends, are certainly near the top of the list, there are plenty of other essentials to pack for each day. Don’t for-

get to add breast milk or formula, bottles and extra nipples alongside snacks and meals. Also remember to pack extra sets of clothes, diapers, wipes and those anxietysoothing must-haves like blankets and stuffed animals.

Prepare for Appetite Changes

It’s common for children’s appetites to decrease during their first few days of child care as they may eat a little less while growing accustomed to their new environment and surroundings. There’s no need to worry – parents can adapt to these changes by understanding they’re often a natural part of the transition. While you may find little ones are hungrier before and after day care, this behavior should ease over time. If it doesn’t, schedule an appointment with your pediatrician to be sure babies stay on track. To find more childhood nutrition advice, visit Gerber.com.

Making The Connection Between AFib And Stroke

For many people, the heart naturally contracts and relaxes to a regular beat. However, those living with atrial fibrillation (AFib) experience a quivering or irregular heartbeat that can lead to further health issues including stroke, heart attack, heart failure or sudden cardiac arrest.

In fact, people with AFib are up to five times more likely to have a stroke, yet many people are unaware that AFib is a serious condition. Managing your AFib is important to reducing your stroke risk.

Consider this important information from the American Heart Association’s Getting to the Heart of Stroke, an initiative sponsored nationally by the HCA Healthcare Foundation, to understand if you may be at higher risk of a stroke.

Symptoms

While some people with AFib don’t have symptoms, those who do may experience a racing heartbeat or irregular heart rate. Other

common symptoms include heart palpitations (rapid “flopping” or

Treatment Options

It’s important to talk to your doctor if you think you may have symptoms of AFib or be at risk for AFib. Diagnosis of AFib starts with an in-depth examination from a doctor. Work with your doctor to identify a treatment plan and goals to help manage your AFib and reduce your risk of stroke.

During AFib, some blood may not be pumped efficiently from the atria (the heart’s two small upper chambers) into the ventricles.

The clot may block blood flow to the brain, causing a stroke.

Risk Factors

Anyone can develop AFib. The risk factors for AFib are broken into two categories: heart-health factors and behavioral factors. Heart-health factors may include advancing age (especially over age

Rupee Set To Rally On India’s Inclusion In JPMorgan Bond Index

MUMBAI, Sept 22 (Reuters) - The Indian rupee is expected to climb at the open on Friday as India’s inclusion in JPMorgan’s widely followed emerging market bond index is expected to lead to inflows of billions of dollars.

Non-deliverable forwards indicate the rupee will open at around 82.80-82.82 to the U.S. dollar, compared with 83.09 in the previous session.

“We would probably have been much higher if global cues were supportive,” a forex dealer at a Mumbai-based bank said.

“No doubt that this (inclusion) is a big positive, but keep in mind, from the near-term perspective, that inflows will happen months down the line.”

Indian government bonds will be included in the Government Bond Index-Emerging Markets index and the index suite, JPMorgan said on Friday.

Inclusion will start on June 28, 2024, and extend over 10 months with 1% increments on its index weighting. India is expected to reach the maximum weighting of 10%, JPMorgan said.

The index inclusion could result in inflows of about $24 billion into eligible government bonds from the start of next year to May 2025, IDFC First Bank said in a note.

India’s inclusion in the JPMorgan index increases the probability of inclusion into the Bloomberg Global Aggregate Bonds Index, which, IDFC First Bank estimates, could lead to additional inflows of $15 billion to $20 billion.

However, on the day, the rupee will have to contend with another move higher on long-maturity U.S. Treasury yields.

The 10-year yield climbed to 4.50%, the highest since 2007, on expectations that the U.S. Federal Reserve will hold rates higher for longer.

The hawkish hold from the Fed is pushing the U.S. yield curve high-

Samudrayaan: Matsya 6000, ‘Blue Economy’ And More; What We Know So Far About India’s Deep Sea Mission

India, in a span of mere weeks, has conquered not only the skies but also set its sights on the depths of the ocean.

Following the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon’s South Pole, the nation is now prepping for a groundbreaking journey to explore 6-kilometre deep ocean waters with its ‘Samudrayaan’ mission.

Kiren Rijiju, the Ministry of Earth Sciences, recently revealed that ‘MATSYA 6000’, a cutting-edge submersible, would be the vehicle for this underwater endeavour.

Developed at Chennai’s National Institute of Ocean Technology, the machine is designed to carry a trio of humans.

The expedition’s primary focus will be on conducting a comprehensive study of deep-sea resources and the assessment of marine

biodiversity.

While the lunar landing focused on geographical exploration, ‘Samudrayaan’ has an additional economic aspect.

As per the minister, the mission aims to support the ‘Blue Economy’, an initiative endorsed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The mission envisages the sustainable extraction of ocean resources to bolster India’s economic growth, and job creation. It will also ensure the health of marine ecosystems.

“India’s first manned Deep Ocean Mission ‘Samudrayaan’ plans to send 3 humans in 6-km ocean depth in a submersible, to study the deep sea resources and biodiversity assessment.

The project will not disturb the ocean ecosystem,” Rijiju earlier posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Just two weeks ago, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched the country’s inaugural solar mission, Aditya-L1, from Sriharikota’s Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

The Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft is also continuing its lunar work, now stationed near the Moon’s South

Pole.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju recently undertook an inspection of ‘MATSYA 6000’.

He expressed the government’s commitment to this underwater mission, assuring that it would not disrupt the delicate oceanic ecosystem.

The series of ambitious projects underscore India’s accelerated pace in space and oceanic research. The successful soft landing on the Moon helped India shrug off the disappointment of the Chandrayaan-2 mission’s crash landing four years ago.

Now, with ‘Samudrayaan’, the nation looks set to make another historical mark, this time in the depths of the Earth’s oceans. (Courtesy: https://www.livemint.com/)

Gaganyaan: ISRO Ahmedabad To Play Leading Role In India’s First Manned Space Mission

Gaganyaan Mission Update: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Ahmedabad is set to play a pivotal role in India’s Gaganyaan mission, which aims to send astronauts into the space.

India’s first manned space mission aims to send three astronauts into an orbit of 400 kilometres above the Earth’s surface.

The Gaganyaan mission is aimed at developing a human-habitable space capsule that will carry a three-member crew into an orbit of 400 km (250 miles) for three days, before returning to safety in a planned splashdown in the Indian Ocean.

While the rocket itself will be constructed elsewhere, all internal systems for Gaganyaan will be developed in Ahmedabad, as reported by news agency ANI.

The Ahmedabad facility will be responsible for building two critical systems for the Gaganyaan mission- the cabin systems and communication systems.

The cabin will house three seats for

astronauts, along with a lighting system and two display screens to monitor various parameters inside the cabin. One of the significant features of the Gaganyaan cabin will be its camera sensors, which will track oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, ensuring the safety and well-being of the astronauts during their mission.

Additionally, a fire extinguisher will be on board to address any potential emergencies.

To support communication during the mission, ISRO plans to launch two communication satellites into

Geostationary Orbit before Gaganyaan’s launch. These satellites will provide continuous connectivity, allowing for communication between Gaganyaan and the ground.

The mission is expected to have internet facilities, cameras throughout the cabin and two TV monitors to keep astronauts connected and informed.

Nilesh Desai, Director of the Space Applications Center (SAC) at ISRO Ahmedabad said that a test vehicle, known as Test Vehicle D1 (TV D1) is scheduled for launch by October end.

“Test vehicle D1 (TV D1) will be launched by the end of October; it will be similar to a test flight of Gaganyaan in that only a crew module—a cabin where astronauts can travel—will be present.

It will be promulgated, launched into space, and from there the crew escape sequence will be tested.

When a problem with getting the crew off the ground or from the water develops, the Crew Escape System (CES) is designing an escape route”, Desaid said as quoted by ANI. This test vehicle will serve as a precursor to the Gaganyaan mission, featuring a crew module for astronauts to fly in.

The primary objective is to test the crew escape sequence, which is vital for ensuring astronaut safety during any unforeseen contingencies.

Earlier in 2018, PM Modi had announced the Gaganyaan Mission during his Independence Day speech, with the target of achieving the mission by 2022.

However, due to the Covid pandemic the speed of the project was hampered and now the space agency aims to launch the project by the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025.

The mission entails sending a crew of three individuals into a 400 km orbit for a three-day mission, followed by their secure return to Earth, as stated on the ISRO’s official website.

The crew will conclude their journey by landing in the waters of the Indian Ocean. (With inputs from ANI) (Courtesy: https://www.livemint.com/)

5 Tips To Keep Your Pets Safe From Warm Weather Hazards

Enjoying the great outdoors is a common pastime for many when temperatures warm, and that includes those with furry companions. However, warmer weather also comes with a variety of hazards to those four-legged friends.

To help keep your pets safe and enjoy all the season has to offer, consider these tips from the experts at VCA Animal Hospitals, which has more than 1,000 locations across North America and cared for more than 4 million pets last year.

Heat

Leaving pets in the yard for extended periods without access to shade or water on hot days, vigorous exercise or leaving them in vehicles even with windows rolled down can lead to heat stroke, a term commonly used for hyperthermia, or elevated body temperature.

Pets suffering from heat stroke (temperature higher than 106 F) can have elevated breathing rates,

dry or sticky gums, abnormal gum color, bruising in the gums, may appear lethargic or disoriented and can have seizures. Safe, controlled reduction of body temperature is an immediate priority. Cool water may be poured over the head, stomach, armpits and feet, or cool cloths may be applied to these areas and continually replaced.

Allergy-Causing Pests

Allergies are common in both dogs and cats, and warmer weather

brings out fleas and ticks that can cause allergic reactions. Bites may cause intense itching, leading pets to scratch or chew on themselves, potentially causing hair loss. An effective, year-round flea and tick preventative regimen is key to keeping dogs and cats pest free and limiting allergic reactions. In cases of severe itching, antihistamines or corticosteroids (steroids) may be prescribed to provide immediate relief.

Human Food

Cookouts may mean barbecue chicken, ribs, steak, corn on the cob and fresh fruit like watermelon. Be wary of bones, which are not digestible and can pose a choking hazard, cause intestinal blockage or break into shards and cause irritations or infections. Similarly, corn cobs are not digestible and can get stuck in the stomach or intestinal tract, causing an obstruction. Watermelon rind and seeds can also block the GI tract, so be sure to remove the rind and seeds.

Party Decorations

Warm weather means festivals and parties. However, these outdoor gatherings often include items that are dangerous to pets:

• Glow sticks contain an oily liquid called dibutyl phthalate (DBP). While non-toxic in small amounts, DBP can cause gagging, drooling and irritation of the eyes, mouth and skin if pets bite glow sticks. If

your pet chews a glow stick, offer water or a treat to tame the bitter taste. Turn off the lights and wash any glowing areas.

• Citronella candles work well as a deterrent for flying insects but open flames can burn whiskers and noses. The fumes may also cause breathing issues when inhaled and consuming the wax can cause GI and nervous system issues.

• Popped or non-inflated balloons can pose choking risks. String for anchoring them can also cause intestinal issues if swallowed and pets could become entangled in the string, posing tripping and strangulation risks.

Swimming Pools

While cats naturally shy away from water, both dogs and cats can fall into swimming pools accidentally. Dogs can sometimes struggle with getting out of the water even if they’re capable swimmers, so be sure to teach them to navigate the swim-out area and keep an eye on pets in the water – even good swimmers can tire of treading water and drown. well into the 20th. Many men were brought from England to assist in the administration of India.

The offspring of these men and local Indian women were generally known as Eurasian, or half-caste, until they were subsumed under the broader Anglo-Indian rubric in the early 20th century.

When India achieved independence in 1947, the Anglo-Indian population was about 300,000.

After independence, however, the

social status of Anglo-Indians declined sharply, and, as a result, many families migrated abroad, especially to the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, and the United States.

Because the group is geographically, socially, and politically fragmented, estimates of the size of the Anglo-Indian community vary—as widely as from 30,000 to 150,000—in India in the 21st century. (Courtesy: https://www. britannica.com/)

cifically to British people working in India.

The meaning of the term Anglo-Indian has to some degree been in a state of flux throughout its history.

It was not until the Indian census of 1911 that the term was used as a category denoting persons of mixed ethnicity.

In the Government of India Act of 1935, an Anglo-Indian was formally identified as “a person whose father or any of whose other male progenitors in the male line is or was of European descent but who is a native of India.”

The key points of that definition were retained when Anglo-Indians were listed as an official minority group in India’s constitution in 1950.

With the diaspora of the community since that time, however, it has become ever more difficult to identify Anglo-Indians, much less to estimate the size of their population.

The Anglo-Indian community in India is mostly urban and Christian and traces its origin to the earliest contact between Europe and India, ultimately to 1498, when Portu-

and administration of the surrounding area by the Portuguese, Governor Alfonso de Albuquerque, who conquered the city of Goa in 1510, encouraged his countrymen to marry Indian women to help establish Portuguese authority.

The offspring of those marriages were known as Luso-Indians. As

Especially in the larger cities, such as Mumbai, Madras (now Chennai), and Calcutta (now Kolkata), the Goans and other Luso-Indians retained much of their European cultural heritage and amalgamated with the local community of mixed British and Indian descent—those for whom the Anglo-Indian ethnic category would ultimately be named.

The British gained control of the greater portion of the Indian subcontinent starting in the 17th century and retained significant power

The Foolish Weaver

A weaver and his wife lived in a village. He went to the forest to get the wood that he needed to repair his loom.

As he began to chop the tree, a djinn appeared and asked him not to cut his abode. In return, the genie offered to give anything that the weaver wanted.

The weaver left the forest to discuss this with his wife. The greedy and dimwitted wife told the weaver to ask the genie for an extra head and two extra hands so he can think more and work more.

The stupid weaver agreed and went back to the djinn, which immediately granted the wish. The weaver happily walked back to the village, where people thought him to be a monster and beat him to death.

Border Crossings By Migrant Families Hits Record High

August brought another overwhelming wave of migration at the U.S.-Mexico border — including a record number of family members crossing illegally, according to government data released.

Why it matters: After initial optimism that President Biden’s new policies were working, immigration officials are again scrambling. Fellow Democrats are raising alarms as their cities struggle to provide shelter for the thousands of foreigners arriving from the border. What’s happening: 233,000 migrants and asylum seekers attempted to cross the U.S.-Mexico border last month without proper visas.

181,000 people crossed the border illegally last month — the highest monthly number since before pandemic policies were replaced by new carrot-and-stick measures in May. A record 93,000 family members crossed illegally. Driving the news: Things haven’t slowed down since August.

For the first time since a historic wave leading up to the end of restrictive COVID policies, border crossings surpassed 10,000 in a single day on Wednesday, according to internal data obtained by Axios.

The number includes migrants and

asylum seekers crossing illegally as well as at legal entry points. The daily average for the past three weeks is now nearing 9,000 a day, according to the data. Customs and Border Protection “remains vigilant in the face of ruthless smugglers and transnational criminal organizations who exploit vulnerable migrants,” Troy Miller, a senior official serving as CBP commissioner, said in a statement.

“Our operational tempo along the border has increased in response to increased encounters,” he added. Between the lines: The higher numbers have been driven in part by a surge in Venezuelan migrants and asylum seekers fleeing a severely unstable economy and government at home.

More than 31,000 Venezuelans crossed into the U.S. in August, with 70% choosing to do so illegally despite Biden’s legal parole program specifically created for them.

Many are risking the dangerous jungles of the Darién Gap separating Colombia and Panama. A startling 82,000 migrants took the often-deadly journey through the Darién last month. Nearly 63,000 of them were Venezuelans, according to Panamanian data.

Venezuelans have long been a particularly challenging demographic. The country’s authoritarian regime doesn’t cooperate with U.S. efforts to deport Venezuelans — leaving U.S. officials few options once migrants arrive.

What to watch: The administration on Wednesday extended and redesignated Venezuela for Temporary Protected Status.

That will allow Venezuelans who were already in the U.S. before the end of July to legally live and work in the U.S. for at least the next year and a half.

The Biden administration has already expanded a program nationwide that allows officials to more rapidly deport families who do not qualify for asylum.

It is also deploying 800 active duty military personnel to assist border officials — on top of the 2,500 National Guard troops already there. The intrigue: For months, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) has blocked Biden from using funds to assist other countries in deporting Venezuelans before they reach the U.S.

Menendez is now “temporarily” stepping down from the committee in the face of federal bribery charges. (Courtesy: https://www. axios.com/)

Will India Be Renamed Bharat? Here’s Why Some Countries Change Their Name

(Continued From Page 01)

While India is the most commonly used name for the country, it is often called Bharat and sometimes Hindustan by Indian officials and the public.

Bharat is a Sanskrit term found in scriptures from around 2,000 years ago.

Modi’s Hindu nationalist BJP government has already renamed several cities linked to the Mughal and colonial periods.

Critics see it as an attempt to erase the Muslim Mughals who ruled the country for 300 years.

The opposition party has also warned against removing the country’s long-established name.

“While there is no constitutional objection to calling India ‘Bharat’, which is one of the country’s two official names, I hope the government will not be so foolish as to completely dispense with ‘India’, which has incalculable brand value built up over centuries,” lawmaker Shashi Tharoor posted on X, the site formerly known as Twitter.

“We should continue to use both words rather than relinquish our claim to a name redolent of history, a name that is recognised around the world,” he added.

Countries often change their names for political, geographic and religious reasons. Here are some other nations that are now known by a different name.

Why is Turkey now called Tür-

Premenstrual Disorders Increase Early Menopause And Vasomotor Symptom Risks

kiye?

In 2022, Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan informed the United Nations that his country should now be termed “Türkiye” in all languages.

“The word ‘Türkiye’ represents and expresses the culture, civilisation, and values of the Turkish nation in the best way,” the president said. He added that it was a better representation of the nation rather than the name of a bird.

Why has the Czech Republic been renamed Czechia?

Although the Czech Republic is still an official name for the central European nation, the government prefers the simpler title Czechia.

Authorities say it makes it easier for the nation to be recognised in international events like sporting competitions and in tourism marketing campaigns. “I use the word Czechia because it sounds nicer and it’s shorter than the cold Czech Republic,” President Miloš Zeman said in 2019.

Why has Holland been rebranded as the Netherlands?

In January 2020, the Netherlands dropped the name Holland as part of a rebranding campaign. The government said the Netherlands better represents the country as open, modern and inclusive.

Why is Macedonia now called North Macedonia?

In 2019, the Republic of Macedonia officially became the Republic of North Macedonia.

The name change occurred during political disputes with Greece and was used to distinguish the country from the Greek region of Macedonia. (Courtesy: https://www.euronews.com/)

According to a recent study published in JAMA Network Open, premenstrual disorders (PMDs) are associated with increased risks of early menopause and moderate to severe menopause-related vasomotor symptoms (VMS).

PMDs are recurrent affective and physical symptoms which occur prior to menstruation.

While PMDs are associated with a decreased quality of life, there is little data on long-term adverse effects.

During menopause transition, patients often experience VMS which impacts quality of life.

Similar risk factors have been reported for PMDs, early menopause, and VMS, indicating they share certain etiologies.

However, the association between PMDs and early menopause has not been evaluated.

Investigators conducted a study to determine the association of PMDs with early menopause and VMS, including participants from the Nurses’ Health Study II (NHSII). The NHSII included 116,429 female nurses aged between 25 and 42 years in 1989, with follow-up occurring until 2017.

The study had a cumulative response rate of 88%. In the matched cohort study of NHSII, there were 4077 women with PMDs and 3202 without PMDs.

PMD was determined by NHSII questionnaires from 1989 to 2005.

Women with menopause or unknown menopause status, oophorectomy, hysterectomy, or cancer were excluded from the study.

Participants reported if they had permanent cessation of menstrual periods during each biennial cycle.

Those who reported yes were asked to report the cause of menopause and their age when periods ceased.

Menopause was determined by 12 consecutive months of amen-

orrhea, Early menopause was determined by being aged under 45 years at onset, normal menopause 45 to 54 years, and late menopause 55 years or older.

The presence of hot flashes or night sweats in the previous 4 weeks was reported by participants in 2009, 2013, and 2017.

Patients experiencing these symptoms were asked to report if they were mild, moderate, or severe.

VMS was determined by a report of VMS in the past 4 weeks or in the first postmenopausal cycle.

VMS duration was categorized as less than 5 years or 5 or more years using self-reported data.

Covariates included age at menarche, race and ethnicity, experiences of childhood abuse, and maternal education level.

There were 1220 women with PMDs and 2415 without PMDs included in the final analysis, aged a median 40.7 and 41.7 years respectively.

Patients with PMDs were more often younger, had a lower education level, obese, used oral contraceptives, and experienced childhood abuse, depression, and anxiety.

Patients with PMDs were aged a mean 51.4 years at menopause onset, while those without PMDs were aged a mean 51.8 years.

While the timing of natural menopause overall was similar between both groups, women with PMDs had an increased risk of early menopause.

PMDs were also positively associated with VMS, with an odds ratio of 1.43. These results indicated increased risks of early menopause and VMS in women with PMDs.

Investigators recommended further research on health risks after menopause in patients with PMDs. (Courtesy: https://www.contemporaryobgyn.net/)

September 2023 Sudoku Answer

Wellness is at the forefront of nearly everyone’s mind, including keeping germs at bay and creating surroundings that promote mental and physical health. Even small, but important, spaces like the bathroom can benefit from changes with wellness in mind.

A bathroom can be one of the easiest rooms in your home to give a little extra TLC toward creating a healthier lifestyle. These cost-effective measures can turn your bathroom into a more practical, functional space that promotes your well-being.

Switch Up Surfaces

The countertops in your bathroom, much like the flooring, must be able to withstand a lot of water. Nonporous vanity tops, such as those made from quartz, hold up to being wet constantly and can help keep germs from breeding. In addition to being easy to clean, a solid-surface option like quartz never needs to be sealed or polished, making it an aesthetically pleasing, long-lasting option.

Clean Green

Bathrooms are often hot and steamy places, and water vapors in the air can carry potentially harmful chemicals from cleaning products. Green cleaning products are made to control the spread of bacteria and viruses using safe and effective means. Not only are they helpful in preventing asthma attacks and other respiratory ailments, but they are a low-cost way to improve overall indoor air quality.

What you use to clean yourself is just as important. Using green or organic personal care items can help reduce toxin exposure and lessen the likelihood of an allergic reaction.

Reduce Humidity

All that steam can affect your health in other ways, too, since it creates a humid environment that encourages mold and mildew. A heated towel rack is an inexpensive way to add a touch of luxury to your space while generating heat that helps reduce humidity and the growth of mold and mildew, therefore benefitting indoor air quality.

Mr.

Mr. Yudhveer

Ms. Kumari Samineni

Heated towel racks like those from Amba Products come in a variety of finishes and styles to coordinate with your decor. For modest accommodations, the Radiant Small is a space-saving choice, and freestanding models are available if wall space is at a premium. Another advantage: Since the racks dry towels, they’ll stay mildew-free longer and don’t need to be washed as often, which helps save valuable natural resources.

Enhance Air Quality

Creating a green, spa-like oasis with plants can bring wellness benefits that don’t break the bank. Indoor plants help rid the environment of pollutants, and the energy and ambiance they add may have mental health benefits, too. Plants like mother-in-law’s tongue or peace lily are popular options to incorporate as natural air purifiers.

Explore Color

A bathroom’s color palette can also play a role in your wellness goals. Warmer shades like red and orange enhance energy while cooler colors like green and blue can be calming. 10 Tips For Starting Yoga After Age 50

(Continued From Page 01) class doesn’t mean it’s the most beneficial thing for us all the time—no matter how old we are. be “relegated” to an age-specific yoga class.

I understand their irritation. For many agile and longtime yoga practitioners, the faster pace and more strenuous asanas are just what they are looking for, especially if they primarily practice yoga for fitness. But the fact that we can “keep up” in the hardest Despite the flak, it turned out to be a popular class. Some who came had practiced for a long time and were curious about how it differed from a regular yoga class. Some were just coming back to asana after a break and didn’t want to get trounced in a class with quick transitions, deep backbends, or arm balances. Others came following surgery or injury. And some were brand new to yoga and came on recommendation from a doctor or a friend. I even had one student in her early 40s who showed up because she likes therapeutic classes.

What the dissenters didn’t understand was that starting yoga later does entail adjustments and that practice itself does change as we age—for the better! Yoga after 50 is a time for moving inward, and that’s a positive thing. And the Vedas, the ancient body of texts that inform much of yoga today, says that, after all the years of proving ourselves in the realms of work, family, academia, etc., that’s what we should be doing.

I know so many who have started a practice not just after 50 but in their 90s and enjoyed more ease in all aspects of their lives. It’s simply never too late to begin. Asana is not less valuable for the older body. Doing a daily practice is vital to being able to sit for meditation and breathe efficiently, as well as for keeping the energy flowing. Plus, people who practice all facets of yoga live longer, giving them a better chance of making it into that fourth quarter-century. If you’re an older newbie to yoga or have been away from your practice for a while, you may be a bit out of touch with your body and energy level and have no idea what to look for in a class or instruction. Do an inventory of your body. Start by circling your ankles and stretching the joints of your feet. Then move up to your knees with gentle squatting and move upward from there. Explore where you feel stuck or open. This will give you a better idea of what kind of class and what type of movements will help you. If you find that you have pain when you twist or fold forward, for instance, find a class that focuses on back care or one led by a teacher with therapeutic training. TIPS

1. Your doctor will probably say yes to starting yoga, because yoga practice can support better sleep habits, more flexibility and energy, less chronic pain, and better movement. But they may not know anything about the classes available, and just showing up at your local fitness center and hoping to find the right class may not be the best idea. If you have diagnoses involving your back, knees, hips, or low bone density, you need a slower paced class with a well-trained teacher or yoga therapist who can provide a variety of options. Not every yoga teacher is trained to address osteoporosis or joint replacement. Same goes for just overall stiffness. So keep it gentle and slow. Pushing yourself in a sweaty vinyasa class may make you so sore that you’ll avoid returning, and consistent practice is what gives long-term benefits.

2. Seek out resources for a home practice, but also attend a class in person if it’s accessible. While books and online classes can help you maintain a regular yoga practice (and they also offer you the benefit of learning from master teachers), for a newcomer, books and videos alone may not provide the feedback you need for your specific body and breath. In a live class, a well-trained teacher can watch for unhealthy knee placement or will notice when you’re holding your breath in a pose. Listening to instruction from a teacher helps you internalize those cues for your home practice.

3. Ask friends over 50 where they take yoga classes. Classes aren’t always billed as “Yoga Over 50” or “Senior” classes. They may be called “Gentle Yoga” or “Yoga Basics,” and you certainly don’t have to be of a certain age to benefit from a deliberate and slower paced approach. If you don’t have friends who attend yoga classes, try calling a nearby YMCA or some local yoga studios

to inquire about classes that involve longer warm-ups (more on why that’s important below) and a lessintense physical practice.

4. Warm-ups are probably the most important part of a practice—especially for an older body, as stiffer joints may take more time to relax, and a fast-paced class is less likely to offer that. Make sure to do warmups as part of your home practice: Simple warm-ups and a few chair sun salutations can help you make headway in consistent practice. For my asana practice, I sometimes just do some warm-ups and some systematic relaxation, and I feel great for the whole day!

5. If you haven’t been super active for a few years, you may want to start with a chair yoga class. Call ahead and ask questions! Keep in mind that even in a chair class you may be asked to get on the floor at the end for the final relaxation pose. If you know that your knees or back make it too difficult to get back up (even with a chair nearby so you can push yourself up), find a class that involves a seated relaxation or just let the teacher know that you’ll be doing final relaxation in your chair. If you just aren’t sure about executing the shift to and from the floor, try experimenting with getting your body down on the floor near a heavy chair or couch so you can use it to help pull yourself back up (maybe even have a buddy nearby). A lot of people have gotten very used to sitting for work, driving, and entertainment. And since the world we inhabit is bed, table, and counter height, they simply may not see any reason for being on the floor—unaware sometimes of what they’re missing: for example, letting the back find a long, supported alignment that lying on the floor can facilitate. A bed or a couch just doesn’t offer the spine the firmness it needs to stack up, which can lead us to become stiff and rounded if they’re all we ever lie on.

6. Look for a class that offers the whole package: movement, breathwork, and meditation. The meditation and breathing parts of the equation are vital for making yoga an integral part of your life. Many of us have developed short, tight breathing habits, and yogic breathing reminds us to keep the breath low and slow. Meditation helps with mental acuity, memory, focus, and overall health benefits, including pain management. Some classes focus entirely on meditation, and they may be great for you in addition to your regular asana practice. But the main reasons for all of that twisting and wriggling

around in an asana class are to prepare you to sit comfortably for extended periods of time, to deepen your breath, and to relax for meditation. Even if meditation is your primary goal or interest, keep in mind that some movement before sitting, even if it’s just a short walk, can benefit your practice overall.

7. A little gear helps. Having your own yoga mat is good for both hygienic reasons and as a reminder to unroll it at home for personal practice. Clothes that are stretchy and comfortable also help to make the class more comfortable. I’ve had people show up for class in tight jeans, shorts that are way too revealing in wider-leg poses, and even skirts—any of which can inhibit you in your practice. Keep in mind when choosing what to wear that many movements in yoga classes require bending forward and lying down.

8. Arrive for class 10 minutes early and let your teacher know if you have special physical needs or injuries. I don’t know how many times I’ve had a new student arrive right at class time and tell me after the class, “Oh, by the way, I have a cervical fusion,” or “It’s hard for me to sit that way because of my hip replacement.” Had I known beforehand, I would have offered them different options during the class. Teachers need to know in order to help.

9. Remember that even a little practice can make a big difference. Try to find 10 to 20 minutes a day, the earlier the better so that your yoga doesn’t get back-shelved when you get busy. You can do a short online class, or even just do a few simple stretches each day. Of course, if you have more time, you could choose a longer class, but keep in mind that even a little bit of yoga can make a big difference when done regularly. Making yourself feel guilty about not practicing for a full hour every day may discourage progress and continuity. Think of your new yoga adventure as a seedling and gently encourage it to flourish.

10. Practice the poses you find challenging, as well as the poses and movements that are easy for you. In home practice, no one’s going to know if you avoid poses that remind you of your tight hamstrings or the weakness in your arms. Make a point of working on at least one pose that you find challenging each week at home.

Finding a yoga practice that’s right for you at this time in your life is well worth the effort. Most importantly, look for a practice that speaks to you, because sticking with it is how we deepen the neural grooves that help us enjoy the vitality and clarity that yoga brings the rest of our lives.

GETTING STARTED
FOR

5 Tips To Create A Comfortable Forever Home

For most homebuyers, their dream homes are not something they’re likely to find already on the market. With a unique vision of your dream home’s look, location and features, building a custom home is generally the easiest way to make that dream a reality.

To keep things moving as smoothly as possible amid what can be a complicated process, consider these tips as you embark on the journey.

Set a Realistic Budget

You’ll need to start by determining how much you can spend on your house. Typically, the cost of building a home is around $100-$200 per square foot, according to research from HomeAdvisor. You’ll also need to account for the lot price as well as design fees, taxes, permits, materials and labor. Materials and labor should make up about 75% of the total amount spent, but it’s wise to build in a buffer for price changes and overages. While building your budget, consider what items and features are “must-haves” and things that should only be included if your budget allows.

Identify the Perfect Location

Think about where you’d like to live and research comparable lots and properties in those areas, which can give you a better idea of costs. Because the features of many dream homes require a wider footprint, you may need to build outside of city limits, which can make natural gas more difficult to access. Consider propane instead, which can do everything natural gas can and go where natural gas cannot or where it is cost prohibitive to run a natural gas line. Propane also reduces dependence on the electrical grid, and a propane standby generator can safeguard your family if there is a power outage.

“As a real estate agent and builder, I have the pleasure of helping families select their dream homes,” said Matt Blashaw, residential contractor, licensed real estate agent and host of HGTV’s “Build it Forward.” “The homes we design and build are frequently in propane country, or off the natural gas grid. Propane makes it possible to build an affordable and comfortable, high-performing indoor living spaces and dynamic outdoor entertaining areas.”

Keep Universal Design Principles in Mind

Many homebuyers want to ensure their space is accessible to family members and guests both now and for decades to come.

As the housing market slows and mortgage

rates rise, buyers may look to incorporate features that allow them to age in place. Incorporating principles of universal design – the ability of a space to be understood, accessed and used by people regardless of their age or ability – can make it possible to still enjoy your home even if mobility, vision or other challenges arise as you age.

For example, the entryway could have a ramp or sloped concrete walkway leading to a front door wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair with a barrier-free threshold. Inside, wider hallways and doorways, strategic lighting and appliances installed at lower heights are mainstays of universal design. Counters of varying heights, drop-down cabinet racks and roll-under sinks in kitchens and zero-entry showers, slip-resistant flooring and grab bars in bathrooms offer enhanced accessibility.

Consider Alternative Energy Sources

With today’s electric grid, more than twothirds of the energy is wasted; it never reaches homes. Unlike electricity, propane is stored in a large tank either above or below ground on the property. A 500-gallon tank can hold enough propane to meet the annual energy needs of an average single-family home – enough to power major systems in a home.

Propane pairs well with other energy sources, including grid electricity and on-site solar, which makes it a viable option for dualenergy homes. Like natural gas, propane can power major appliances such as your furnace, water heater, clothes dryer, fireplace, range and standby generator. Often, propane works more efficiently with fewer greenhouse gas emissions than electricity, meaning your home is cleaner for the environment.

Propane can even power a whole-home standby generator, which is often a big selling point. When a homeowner purchases a standby generator, a licensed electrician installs the unit outside the home and wires it to the home’s circuit breaker. When a power outage occurs, the generator automatically senses the disruption of service and starts the generator’s engine, which then delivers power to the home. From the warm, comfortable heat of a propane furnace to the peace of mind offered by a propane standby generator, many homeowners trust propane to provide a safe, efficient, whole-home energy solution.

Build a Team of Experts

Hiring the right people can make the process of turning your dream into reality go much smoother. Start by researching reputable builders, paying special attention to the types of homes they build to find a style that matches what you’re looking for as well as price ranges for past homes they’ve built. Consider how long the builders have been in business and if they’re licensed and insured.

Depending on your builder’s capabilities, you may also need to hire an architect or designer. In addition to your real estate agent to assist with purchasing the lot and selling your previous home, you may need assistance from other professionals, such as a real estate attorney, landscape architect and propane supplier. A local propane supplier can work with the builder to install a properly sized propane storage tank either above or below ground and connect appliances.

Propane-Powered Appliances

You may be surprised to learn propane can

power major appliances, which can increase the value of a home because of their high performance, efficiency and reduced dependence on the electrical grid.

Furnace

A propane-powered furnace has a 50% longer lifespan than an electric heat pump, reducing its overall lifetime costs. Propanepowered residential furnaces also emit up to 50% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than electric furnaces and 12% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than furnaces running on oilbased fuels.

Boiler

Propane boilers have an expected lifespan of up to 30 years, but many can last longer if serviced and maintained properly. High-efficiency propane boilers offer performance, space savings and versatility as well as a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions compared to those fueled by heating oil.

Standby Generator

Propane standby generators supply supplemental electricity in as little as 10 seconds after an outage. Plus, propane doesn’t degrade over time, unlike diesel or gasoline, making it an ideal standby power fuel.

Clothes Dryer

Propane-powered clothes dryers generate up to 42% fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to electric dryers. They also dry clothes faster, which can reduce energy use and cost.

Range

With up to 15% fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to electric ranges, propanepowered ranges also allow for greater control of heat levels. Plus, their instant flame turnoff capabilities help them cool faster.

Tankless Water Heater

Propane tankless water heaters have the lowest annual cost of ownership in mixed and cold United States climates when compared with electric water heaters, heat pump water heaters and oil-fueled water heaters. They also only heat water when it is needed, reducing standby losses that come with storage tank water heaters.

BIGGEST TICKETS SALE ABROAD: CARVAN

(Courtesy: DNA)

This film, not a blockbuster in India, sold over 30 crore tickets overseas, more than RRR, Dangal, Baahubali, and Pathaan combined.

When we talk about overseas success stories from Indian cinema, the mind immediately goes to recent blockbusters like RRR and Dangal that made waves in the United States and China respectively. Some would also point at Shah Rukh Khan’s stellar record with his films in Europe and the Middle East. And yet, even the combined ticket sales of some of these biggies don’t come anywhere close to what one flm achieved back in the 1980s.

India’s biggest overseas hit that sold 30 crore tickets

Jeetendra and Asha Parekh’s Caravan released in India in 1971. The film was a success, earning Rs 3.6 crore at the box office and being labelled a superhit. However, that was just act one fo the Tahir Hussain film. Eight years later, the film was released in China and it became an all-time blockbuster there, obliterating all records and sell-

ing 30 crore tickets in the country. In comparison, Aamir Khan’s Dangal – which set earning records in the country in 2018 – sold 4.5 crore tickets in the country.

With this, Caravan also overtook Raj Kapoor’s Awara as India’s biggest overseas hit. Awara had sold over 20 crore tickets overseas courtesy huge runs in both China and Soviet Union.

How Caravan’s overseas success

dwarfs modern blockbusters

Caravan earned around Rs 31 crore in China in 1979. Adjusted for inflation, this figure would be over Rs 1000 crore in today’s times. If ticket prices are adjusted for today’s rates, the figure may just reach over Rs 3000 crore. In comparison, Dangal earned Rs 1300 crore overseas, while Pathaan and RRR both earned just under Rs 400 crore. Baahubali 2, one of the biggest overseas hits, earned Rs 425 crore overseas. None of these come close to what Caravan achieved.

Caravan’s cultural impact

Funnily enough, Caravan was not a hugely significant film in India. It was only the sixth-highest-grossing Indian film of 1971 and had bigger films like Haathi Mere Saathi, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, and Hare Rama Hare Krishna out-earning it. But in China, the film remains culturally significant. It was directed by Tahir Hussain, the father of Aamir Khan. In 2018, when Aamir was in China to promote Dangal and Secret Superstar, he said that people told him Caravan is still fondly remembered there.

Thalapathy Vijay’s Next To Suffer A Major Box Office Blow - Leo

Thalapathy Vijay is in full preparation mode for the release of Leo. This film, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, signifies their second partnership following the 2021 blockbuster Master. Riding high on the triumph of Vikram in 2022, Vijay’s forthcoming action-packed venture has generated substantial excitement among fans and audiences alike.

Post Baahubali, KGF and Pushpa, the market for south films in North India has opened up in a big way. Many South films are now being released in multiple languages as well. However, the upcoming gangster drama will not follow suit. Scroll down to know more. The latest reports suggest that the Hindi version of Leo may not see a release in the national multiplex chains.

It’s rumoured that PVR, INOX,

and Cinepolis are hesitant to screen the Thalapathy Vijay starrer without an 8-week exclusive theatrical window for the Hindi version. Typically, South Indian movies become available on OTT platforms after a 4-week theatrical run.

In the case of ‘Leo,’ there are unconfirmed reports that Netflix, the official posttheatrical streaming partner, has secured a 4-week streaming deal for all versions.

The three major national multiplex chains have reportedly made it a policy not to exhibit the Hindi version of any Indian film unless there’s an

agreed-upon 8-week gap with the film’s OTT release. Unless the makers of Leo reconsider their decision, it seems the movie won’t hit the screens in Hindi at these multiplexes.

With Leo generating positive anticipation among Hindi audiences, its absence from these multiplexes could significantly impact its box office potential. Under the production of S. S. Lalit Kumar from Seven Screen Studio, the movie features Thalapathy Vijay as the lead, joined by Trisha Krishnan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mansoor Ali Khan, and Mysskin. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music.

The film is set for a global theatrical release in standard and IMAX formats on October 19, 2023. (Courtesy: https://www. koimoi.com/)

Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire Now Expected To Either Clash With Salman Khan’s Tiger 3

On Diwali Or Release On November 24

Speculations began that the much-awaited film, Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, will not release on September 28, as scheduled. As expected, it led to pandemonium in the market. After all, the action entertainer is one of the biggest films of Indian cinema in terms of cost and grandeur.

Its postponement would mean that the release calendar might be affected. The makers didn’t confirm but when Fukrey 3 took the September 28 slot, it became clear that Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire has indeed got pushed. Today, the makers of the film finally admitted to the change of release date. In a press release sent out by the makers, it is stated the probability of the film releasing in November is high. The sources in the industry, however, are confident that Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire is confirmed for a November 2023 release.

#Tiger 3

But yet again, the makers have added to the confusion in the absence of a release date. Meanwhile, many in the industry feel that there’s a high chance that Salaar: Part 1 –Ceasefire will arrive in cinemas on

Diwali 2023 and thus clash with Salman Khan-starrer Tiger 3.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Diwali will be an ideal period for Salaar since the back-to-back holidays will give a boost to the collections of the film all over India. At the same time, it’ll have to co-exist with Tiger 3. In fact, both films are big-scale action films meant for audiences of all kinds. This will be an epic clash on the lines of Dil vs Ghayal and Lagaan vs Gadar.”

The source further said, “We’ll see maara-maari happening for shows like never before. Both studios have a clout and will pressurize exhibitors for maximum showcasing. This is subject to Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire releasing on the Festival of Lights. In the larger interest of the industry, we hope that the makers immediately give out a release date to end speculations.”

Another source says, “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire can also be released on November 24. It’ll be a time when the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will be over. So, it’s either November 10 or November 24. It won’t release on the pre-Diwali Friday of November 3. November 17 is ruled out for sure as the World Cup finals are on Sunday, November 19. Let’s wait for the official announcement.”

Tiger 3 belongs to the YRF Spy Universe. The new poster was unveiled earlier in the day which states that the film follows the events of Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), War (2019) and Pathaan (2023).

Katrina Kaif and Emraan Hashmi also star in this film, which has a cameo by Shah Rukh Khan. Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, meanwhile, is directed by KGF director Prashanth Neel and also features Shruti Haasan. (Courtesy: https://www. bollywoodhungama.com/)

Shah Rukh Khan: JAWAN CROSSES Rs. 1000 CRORES

Renuka Vyavahare

Synopsis: A masked vigilante (Shah Rukh Khan), sets out to accelerate some right societal changes, in his own ways. He along with his army of super heroic women, work towards enabling justice by

King but topping it all, is a heady mix of SRK-Atlee tadka. Only SRK can use the James Bond line and give it his own twist.

“Rathod. Vikram Rathod. Naam toh suna hoga?” Lover boy king Khan’s tough avatar treads a new path. It isn’t devoid of his soft,

taking on a dangerous arms dealer Kali (Vijay Sethupathi).

Review: No one seems to be having more fun than Shah Rukh Khan, in his action hero era. The romantic Raj and Rahuls have finally released SRK from their magnetic spell so he can wholeheartedly embrace the smouldering Pathaan and Jawan. In Atlee’s ambitious action drama, SRK is a jailer moonlighting as a vigilante, but he is also Captain Vikram Rathod, a patriot. What is his story?

Expect ample twists and turns in this tale of desi Robin Hood and his tech-savvy, gun-wielding angels. Jawan is peppered with meta and pop culture references. You will be reminded of Money Heist, Squid Game, The Dark Knight Rises, old Hindi songs and The Lion

sensitive charm despite the vengeance and violence galore. The Bollywood superstar seamlessly slips into South sensation Atlee’s universe, a rather new territory for him. Together, they entertain in this high-octane action thriller that’s rooted in emotions and familial drama.

An ode to fatherhood and female power, Jawan’s biggest victory is its ability to juggle the personal,

political, and social statements. You get the hint when SRK tells his nemesis, “Bete ko haath lagane se pehle, baap se baat kar.” He calling out the politics of religion and voicing his unwavering faith in democracy is the film’s highlight and the part that is bound to get the most claps. Writers Sumit Arora, Atlee and Ramanagirivasan get the dialoguebaazi right even as the story rotates between several moods –humour, tragedy and revenge. While Pathaan was high on style, Jawan raises the stakes with a story and purpose, too. The women get their moment in the sun and aren’t treated secondary to the hero, no matter how many SRKs join the party. Deepika Padukone looks beautiful and is solid in an extended cameo. Clash of words, ethics and wigs between SRK and Vijay Sethupathi is fun to watch. Exuding strange humour and rage, Sethupathi makes for a formidable villain. While the brief romantic track between Nayanthara and SRK doesn’t quite work, the girl squad comprising Nayanthara, Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Girija Oak and Lehar Khan make their presence felt. Promoted as an Anirudh (Ravichander) musical, the film’s background score and songs complement its style and nature. Zinda Banda and Chaleya are the best in the lot, but the latter has the most abrupt placement. While there is nothing that distracts you from the plot that has a dime a dozen twists and turns, at 2 hours 49 mins, the film needed a tighter edit. For action buffs, there is ample adrenaline rush throughout the story. Do not miss the opening sequence. Jawan feeds off SRK’s stardom. It isn’t intimidated by him.Like a paisa vasool desi thaali, it has all kinds of flavour to satiate your taste buds. The reincarnation of ‘action hero SRK’ hits the sweet spot.
