ASTRUPTUNET

Nikolai Astrup produced some iconic portraits of his native village. When visiting Astruptunet, you can stand at the very place where he had his easel, and discover how these surroundings affect you.

The beautiful artist home of Engel (1892 - 1966) and Nikolai Astrup (1880 - 1928) is idyllically located by Jølstravatnet. Nikolai Astrup is one of Norway’s most famous painters, and just in the last five years, his work has been exhibited in England, Germany, USA and Sweden. Engel Astrup’s textile art has in recent years been brought to light through exhibitions, and her central role at Astruptunet has become an important part of the story of the residence.

The on-going restoration work in the garden will help revive Nikolai Astrup’s art, and will allow you to walk among both rhubarb and fruit trees that he himself used as a motif again and again. In the newly renovated café you can enjoy svele and coffee with a view of Jølstravatnet.
