ASKVOLL

Askvoll offers impressive nature experiences, from the fjord itself to islands far out where the fjord meets the open sea. The municipality is a paradise for keen hikers, boasting several of the best summit hikes in the region, including Alden (481 m) and Blegja (1304 m). Nipebu, a self-service cabin operated by the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT), makes an excellent base for both day hikes and fishing. Hiking maps can be bought at the town hall in Askvoll and selected shops in the municipality.

A visit to the knife factory Helle Knivfabrikk will be of interest to history and culture buffs. In Rivedal, you’ll find a statue of Ingólfr Arnarson, the first Norwegian settler in Iceland.

Visit the charming islands of Bulandet and Værlandet, located far out west by the open sea. The islands here are like a string of pearls, beautifully linked by six bridges and a 5.24 km road. These islands are a popular holiday destination for those who enjoy cycling, paddling, fishing or hiking.

The Askvoll community center is a great base for experiencing one bustling crowds in the summer, and for day trips to Bulandet, Værlandet and Atløy. Rent a bike for an easy ride along the fjord and sea, or take a walk on the cultural hiking trail that starts in the harbor.
