Minerals and Vitamins for Healthy Hair The health of hair is a sign of inside health. Diet should hold equal importance as the selections of ingredients in the collection of hair care. This will do two things: promote healthy stem cell growth back into your skin, hair and nails—the integumentary system, and increase your overall internal health for energy to use. What is hair? It’s made up of three major components: the follicle, root and the shaft. The follicle of the hair regenerates new stems cells by exiting underneath the skin (keratinocyte) which is rudimentary to what nutrients are in your diet. Maintaining a rich diet in vitamins and Minerals allows for the regeneration of new healthy stem cells to form healthy roots, which results in the follicle to exit the keratinocyte layer and grow a healthy hair shaft. What are the essential foods necessary to eat for achieving healthy roots? Proteins: Eat Proteins to grow healthy roots. Proteins are available for any type of diet restriction you follow, whether you’re a vegan, vegetarian or you eat meat; quality proteins will maintain strong and healthy hair from becoming dry and brittle. Without proteins, one may risk hair loss. The best proteins are available in poultry, fish, eggs, dairy, nuts and some vegetables.

Biotin: It is a B complex vitamin, a biotin deficiency often is the result of hair loss, dry hair and breakage. A direct source of biotin can come from your diet, include halibut, wheat products, carrots, vegetables, fruits, beans and mushrooms into your balanced diet.

Vitamin E: A layer of protection to your hair, think of sunblock to protect your skin. It’s the same concept. By consuming vitamin E rich foods; such as, almonds, spinach, sunflower seeds, and avocado just to name a few vitamin E rich foods this will prevent sun damage to your hair. Vitamin A: What is sebum (pronunciation: SEE-bum)? It is derived from vitamin A, the body naturally produces it from the sebaceous gland; a secretion to keep the skin and hair moisturized, it is an oily fluid that comes from consuming carrots, sweet potato, dark leafy greens and dried apricots. After a certain age, usually around 20-years of age the body produces less of the oily fluid. This vital vitamin is essential in the hair follicle to spread moisture throughout the hair shaft for luster and shine. Follow @ATAMIANHair | Instagram | Facebook | Twitter
