STUDENT RECREATION & WELLNESS CENTER

WELCOME

MEMBERSHIPS

Greetings CSULB students and CSULB community,

Students

On behalf of ASI, welcome to the Student Recreation & Wellness Center, otherwise known as the SRWC.

Currently enrolled CSULB students are eligible to use the SRWC, as their membership has already been paid through the University Student union fee. Registration is quick, easy and innovative! Instead of a membership card to gain entry into the SRWC, you will use a process called Biometrics. Biometric hand geometry readers simultaneously analyze a variety of points and instantaneously records separate measurements of an individual’s hand, including length, width, thickness and surface area, to verify that the person using the device is really who he or she claims to be. Simply punch in your student ID and then place your hand on the scanner. Within a few seconds you will be able to enter into the SRWC. No ID card needed!

This facility is the very first recreation center on the CSULB campus that promises to make a strong impact on the lives of its members. The SRWC is not just an ordinary gym by the beach in Southern California. More importantly, it is a place to have fun, a place to meet new friends, a place to learn something new about one’s self, and a place to learn something new about fitness and wellness. The SRWC is also a place that requires input, attention, and suggestions from its members. As the CSULB campus grows, the SRWC will also grow to meet the needs of its members and the campus community. Members’ opinions count and will always play a part in the adjustment of programs, events, hours, and services. This is not your average gym. The SRWC has more than 200 pieces of state-of-the-art strength and cardio equipment with personal viewing screens featured on the cardio machines. The 27-foot custom-made rock wall is a great way to spend your Saturday afternoon, or hang out in the 24-person spa and relax before your midterms. Meet new people and get involved in Intramurals if you are looking for a way to play sports in a competitive and fun way. Try out a new free fitness class and move your body to the Latin rhythms of Zumba or focus on yourself with some Hatha Yoga. The SRWC’s mission is to help you have fun while you meet any fitness and wellness goals you may have. The SRWC will start a new trend on the CSULB campus. CSULB community members are encouraged to stay on campus and fulfill their fitness and wellness needs here. The SRWC is designed to enhance the college experience, the workplace experience, and your personal experience. Welcome to the SRWC family and welcome home!

If an affiliate would like a membership, the associate member must be present in order for the membership to be processed. Fees for affiliates are $420 annually or $39 for a rolling monthly membership. The affiliate needs to provide verification in order to complete the registration process by providing documents that show the same last name, same address (proof through checking, utility bill or state ID), or financial co-dependency (joint checking or savings account, shared lease or mortgage.)

Guest Passes All members are permitted to invite one guest per day into the SRWC for $10. This guest must be accompanied by the SRWC member throughout the time in the facility. All guests may utilize the entire facility, except for participating in Instructional classes and Intramurals.

AQUATICS The SRWC features an outdoor swimming pool with designated lap swimming lanes, as well as a recreational swimming area. A deck with lounge chairs alongside the pool offers members a relaxing and enjoyable setting. The pool is utilized for scheduled programming, lap swimming, and open recreation. Scheduled programming includes activities such as swim lessons, aqua group fitness, and special events. If your club or organization would like to use the pool deck amenities for your special event, please e-mail us at asi-srwc@csulb.edu for more information.

ROCK WALL One of the most interesting features in the SRWC is the custom designed 27-foot rock climbing wall, located at the far-east side of the building. SRWC members are able to climb up and around the large rock, tackling fears, and reaching new heights. Beginning and advanced classes are offered at the rock wall for a small fee, and all rock climbing equipment will be provided at the SRWC check-out desk. All participants are encouraged to try the wall, and the first time is FREE during climb hours. If you are interested in utilizing the rock wall for your own special event, please e-mail us at asi-srwc@csulb.edu.

We offer a wide variety of non-credit fitness classes that allow members to develop and expand skills related to the latest group fitness trends. Available at various times throughout the day, these classes provide a complete workout for both the novice and experienced individual. All classes adhere to the rudiments of proper technique and choreography associated with contemporary exercise programs.
