Cbr home visit 101

Page 1

Dear CBR Volunteer, Thank you for dedicating your time to conduct home visits for Carolina Boxer Rescue. Without the help of our world-class volunteers (you), there is no way that we could rescue and place boxers throughout the Carolinas (and Virginia!). In July 2017, we updated our home visit process. This letter and the documents referenced below should get you ready for your next home visit. You should allow 30-60 minutes to conduct a home visit; however, some visits may last longer if the applicant has many questions or is particularly talkative. If you do not have answers to all the questions, don’t sweat it! You have a team of volunteers and Area Coordinators ready to help you. Just ask us! Now for the three most important tools: Adoption / Foster Application You will receive the original application complete with reference check information from one of our Directors. This will have contact information to set up your appointment as well as give you key background information prior to the visit. Please take a moment to read over the application. CBR Home Visit Evaluation This two-page document is an evaluation form that guides you through all aspects of the home visit. There are additional notes and instructions for you within the document. The evaluation form will walk you through key areas of discussion, followed by a walk-around inside and outside the home. This form was revised from earlier versions to ensure that we discuss relevant and important issues to adopting/fostering while improving efficiency, consistency, and ease of the home visit process. Tips:   

Use the boxes to mark ( ) questions that you cover, and to record responses where indicated. Make it easy on yourself and keep the comments brief, but write as much as you feel is appropriate. Feel free to write anywhere on the document if needed. It can be your notepad!

When complete, you will scan and email this document back to CBR directors that contacted you for the home visit. Pro Tip: If you don’t have access to a scanner, take a clear picture of the documents from your cell phone and email those images.

Home Visit Packet

CBR Home Visit Packet This three-page packet should be printed and left with the applicant. During your visit, you will discuss many topics and it may become difficult for the applicant to remember everything. This packet serves as a reminder of next steps, conveys important information about CBR, and facts about the Boxer breed. You may find it helpful to familiarize yourself with the contents ahead of your visit. If you are comfortable doing so, please include your contact information (bottom of 1st page) to the applicant so that they can reach you if they have immediate questions following the home visit. If you do not wish to provide personal contact information, you may refer them to the CBR contact info printed on the page. Privacy After you email the Home Visit Evaluation back to the Directors, please ensure the privacy of our applicants by properly deleting electronic files and destroying (shredding) any printed application forms.

Once again, we thank you for all that you do to support Carolina Boxer Rescue. Please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions to improve our home visit process.

Warm Regards,

Your CBR Directors!
