Jaime Thietten

8

This is our purpose here on this earth - to love and serve God and those around us. If we are doing anything other than this, we are wasting valuable time.” - Jaime Thietten Ultimately, the most endearing aspect of Jaime Thietten (pronounced Teet’n) is not so much about what she’s accomplished or her powerful soaring vocal abilities, but more about her heart and soul, her exuberant love of life and her passion for the world around her. Raised in Twin Falls, Idaho, the second of three siblings, with a wide-eyed innocence, and vibrant personality, music quickly became her best outlet for self-expression. She started singing at 2, and performing solos publicly by 13. During her high school years, switching from a small private school to a much larger public school, she struggled with selfesteem issues as most teenagers do, but again found hope and solace in her music. She soon discovered that through song, not only could she find meaning for her own life, but also inspire and encourage others. During her last year of high school she found herself wanting to become an EMT, but a teacher approached her and said "don't forget, I want your first CD when it comes out". Jaime remembers laughing at that comment, but it got her thinking; and later that year she realized that God had other plans for her. She soon began touring regionally (sharing the stage with Jay Leno, The Gaithers, Michael English, Phillips, Craig & Dean, and Avalon to name a few) and the message “...to Love Along The Way” has propelled her career, music and ministry throughout the 2000s. During her career, now spanning over 12 years, Jaime has established an international touring base from New Zealand to Canada and throughout the United States. She has recorded a total of 5 albums as well as a powerful Music Video/DVD and CD package. Her strong faith has carried her through the highs of having a #2 radio single for her cover of Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me” and the lows of slower times between recordings and concerts. Through it all, Jaime has held to her message: “God’s love never fails us and because of that there is hope.” Her earnest desire to share that message in a more comprehensive way than ever before became the motivation to head back into the studio and begin work on her 6th album. The final product, Love Along The Way, produced by Shaun Shankel (Natalie Grant, Plumb, For King & Country), brings together a collection of songs that encompass not only her desire to encourage others, but also a look into the heart of a woman who has experienced her share of pain. Jaime’s voice pulls the listener into the intimacy of struggle in a way that only one who is acquainted with pain can. Her husband’s battle with alcoholism, her parents’ divorce after 37 years of marriage and the struggle to conceive a child of her own, are the experiences that Jaime draws on to weave themes of hope, forgiveness and encouragement into every track on the record. From the anthemic balladry of “Chasing Me”, one of Jaime’s favorite tracks, whose co-write credits include Meredith Andrews and Shankel, to the quiet assurance of “Anxious Heart”, the lyrics speak of an enduring hope that often exceeds our human understanding. Shankel describes Jaime as “one of the best vocalists he has ever worked with” and was particularly impressed with her focus and work ethic: “The wonderful thing about Jaime is that she is an incredibly hard worker; she embraces the growth that happens when you’re trying new things in the studio and goes and does the work.” Her ability to keep things moving helped the recording process move along with ease. Shaun remembers: “Because Jaime is so great at trusting in the team around her to do their job, we had been able to establish a wonderful level of trust early on in the recording process. It was because of that trust we had such synergy and the songs flowed out of us so effortlessly.” “It’s A Good Day”, the lead single off the album is a happy, acoustically driven, piece of ‘ear candy’, as Jaime lovingly calls it. It offers a powerful reminder to live life in the moment: “It’s a good day, a good day to be alive. So let’s do more than just survive” the cheery anthem urges, and that is exactly what happened the day it was recorded. Jaime recalls, “I was so worried when I went to bed the night before knowing we still had a whole song to write and record and only one day left to do it. I prayed that God would bring us the perfect song and He showed up in a huge way. We truly did exactly what the song encourages us to do and lived in the moment. What I assumed would be a filler song for the album ended up being the first song we would be releasing to radio!” 9

Although the beauty of life and the blessing of hope are the essence of this record, these themes become even more compelling when they shine their light into the darkest places of the human soul. “My Chance” came to Jaime back in 2008, after a time of serious prayer asking God for direction in her career. “I very clearly heard God say ‘I want you to be a voice for the unborn’, and I was floored. I wasn’t even sure I knew how to go about that until a few days later a friend who had no idea God had spoken that to me, sent the lyrics for ‘My Chance’…on my birthday! It was at that point I knew this was supposed to be a part of my ministry.” The powerful message that ‘there is no such thing as an unwanted child’ is central to the narrative of Jaime’s life and “I Would Die For That” is the piece of the record that tells that very story. Originally written by Kellie Coffee (When You Lie Next To Me) as an autobiographical account of Coffee’s own struggle to conceive, the song was intimidating for Jaime at first. “I didn’t know if I could record it and if I did, I didn’t know if I could sing it live. It is painful and hard to share that piece of myself with a lot of people, but I have slowly begun to incorporate it into performances at adoption conferences and benefits and I’ve been able to see how the song has blessed those travelling this road.” Other album highlights include a cover of Peter Cetera’s “One Clear Voice” and “Yesterday’s News”; a song written by Jaime’s husband based on an encounter with a homeless man that they had several years ago. “We were headed to a Halloween party on a bitter cold night when we saw a man who had newspaper tied to his feet for shoes. We were in such a hurry that we allowed him to walk right past us and we didn’t do a thing to help him. That image haunted us for weeks and since there was no way for us to go back, I asked my husband to help me write a song about it in hopes that it would inspire others to be courageous and not shy away from offering help in the face of great need.” “You Are” and “Surrendering” round out the album’s offerings with the simple reminder that God is in control and because of that, we can surrender and allow his love to lead us to something beautiful. “My hope for this record is that it brings joy, peace and motivates people to let love be what drives them to meet the needs of those that are hurting…the title of the album is exactly what I want this record to convey.” As Jaime shares her heart and her story through this compelling collection of songs, we are reminded by her music and her message, that only in true surrender can we experience Love Along The Way.

Father Michael Joly is grateful to be first and foremost a son with a spiritual core making his way through a material and temporary world. This realization impacts how he thinks, believes, lives works and writes songs. He came into this world in 1966 and was born into a large New England family. Life growing up was colorful to say the least. At six years-of-age Mike lost his eyesight due to a brain tumor. Hospitalized over a prolonged period of time, he had to readjust to the world he once could see, even needing to crawl around for awhile, so atrophied were his legs from being immobile. He was mainstreamed into public school (unprecedented at the time). Handicapped kids were expected to attend specialized schools. He was a typical child, though blind: attended scouts, worked hard to excel in school, got involved in music in high school, wrestled on the high school team (baseball didn’t work). He obtained a bachelors of Science degree in Human Resource Management and wondered if this was all there was in this world. Raised Catholic, he was typical of many, not quite aware of the transformative grace, power and love offered from the Lord in His Body, the Church. In his late teen years Mike experienced a life-changing retreat and his faith came alive in him in a way that would not accept spiritual lukewarmness any longer. His musical interests turned to sacred music. He worked as choir director for six years while advancing through undergrad work. The Lord’s mercy would not permit this longing heart to be left unaware of the source of its fulfillment, the Lord Himself. On a dreary, rainy day, while standing at the front entrance of a college auditorium, waiting for a ride home, Mike asked himself, “is this all there is?” “I had many things moving in the right direction as the world would prescribe for one’s success, but I was empty. It would be awful if this was all there was. So I asked that question, and the answer was immediate. I instantly sensed a real ‘burning’ from my fingers through my whole body. Along with this sensation a nonspoken voice left this impression, ‘Check out the seminary.’ My whole world opened up with my seminary formation which I loved. The Lord was working overtime on this broken man. Ordained in November of 1994, I continue to be amazed at how God’s mercy transforms my life and reveals the power of His Kingdom around me.” 14

Father Mike Joly has worked in parish ministry, college and high school campus ministry, served as retreat director for a large retreat center, and he conducts parish missions, rallies, concerts, and offers presentations on a variety of topics, both within the spiritual realm and in secular venues when asked to bring his insights. “Are not our hearts burning inside as He walks by our side?

“Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of - throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself." -C.S. Lewis

Twenty-three years ago, Noel McLeary was born into a music-loving Christian family in a small town just east of Pittsburgh, PA. Her name-sake has nothing to do with Christmas (her grandfather’s name was “Leon”hers is Leon spelled backwards), her small stature deceives most about her age and her vocals, and though you’ve probably never heard of her hometown (Ligonier, PA), growing up in a small town has never stopped her from dreaming big. Noel McLeary began wowing crowds as the “little girl with the big voice” from the first time she stepped onstage to sing in her second grade Christmas concert. Recognizing the potential in her 20

voice, Noel’s elementary school music teacher quickly got her involved with a local children’s choir. Being a part of the children’s choir allowed Noel the opportunity to perform on local TV and radio stations, in large venues such as Pittsburgh’s Benedum Center and PPG Place, and her first experience in a recording studio (to record a benefit song for Children’s Hospital)⎯ all by the young age of ten. With a powerful voice that has an easier time sticking out than blending in, Noel quickly fell in love with performing and began to step out on her own, taking the lead in several school concerts, performing special music in churches, and singing the national anthem at local sporting events. At the age of 15, Noel decided that it was time to own her own faith, instead of resting on her family’s influence, and began to intentionally seek and develop her own personal relationship with Christ. As a result of God’s calling and the love of music that had been instilled in her from a young age, by the age of 16 she had decided to forego college plans and pursue a career in Christian music. It was then that she made her first trip to Music City⎯ Nashville, Tennessee, and began working on her first recording. After releasing an independent EP, Noel started traveling to perform as a solo artist at various venues and events including Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Creation West, and even to Honduras for a benefit to support El Hogar de Niños Emanuel (a children’s home). Noel’s career began to pick up steady momentum as her schedule filled. The next chapter though, was one that she never would’ve guessed would be written into her life’s story. “By the summer of 2009, I was playing at least 2, sometimes 3, shows a weekend, had never experienced any real family issues or personal tragedy, and was happily engaged. I never would have pictured God’s stretching me to look quite like it did… and I never would have expected that by January of 2010 I would be in the complete opposite position. Within a few short weeks of each other my fiance left me, my grandmother had an unexpected stroke (leaving my family preoccupied and unable to support me through the broken engagement), and booking slowed to a near stop (in hindsight, a God-built-in protection). I was at what felt like a stand-still in every area of my life in what seemed like within only moments. Even though deep down I knew that God was faithful, I really struggled to pick myself up out of bed every day. I wondered if it was really true, that God would never leave me, because a lot of days it felt like He already had. I just couldn’t see any way out of the helplessness that I felt. The amazing part though, is that God is always writing His story in our lives, even if we can’t see it in the moment.” Through these struggles, Noel began to question the depths of her faith in a way that she never had before, and as a result has grown into a 21

young woman with a strong heart for mentoring young girls and sharing authenticity through music⎯ both things that she had felt called to before, but had never felt equipped for. “God has stretched me in so many ways that I never would’ve expected that it’s incredible. I can honestly say that I’m thankful for even the most horrifically painful days of my life, because in some way or another they have drawn me closer to the heart that God has for me and the love that He has for me. I’m a totally different person now, in so many ways. I feel like God has reinvented who I am. And I’m so excited to be able to have a chance to share what God has done in my life with the world through my heart and my music.” In 2011, Noel teamed up with Dove Award- winning producer, Rusty Varenkamp and began writing songs that explore this new side of her heart. The result is the Can’t Escape Your Love EP, consisting of 3 songs that speak volumes to where Noel has traveled both spiritually and musically. “I feel like my new music is more mature and a much stronger reflection of who I am and where I stand in my relationship with God than anything I’ve done before. I’m very proud to have created something that I would listen to and I’m very excited that God has continued to call me on this journey of discovering Him and sharing what I find. I’ve always strived to live my life in a way that when God says ‘go’ I’m able to jump on board and follow. I feel like in music, that time is now. And I can’t wait to enjoy the ride.”

Samuel Wilson

When a three year old Samuel Wilson started singing before congregations, he had no idea that his musical talent would take him across the United States. “I can’t remember a time when music has not been a part of my life”, Samuel recalls. “ I was the “ham” that everyone wanted to see perform and mimic the sounds of Motown and Gospel Music”. Raised by his single mother, Samuel was always encouraged to sing. “You can do anything you set your mind to do”, she said. And that’s what Samuel sought to do. Samuel’s Christian heritage began from his summer visits to Alabama to see his grandparents. Both sets of grandparents were church goers but his grandma Dollie was the catalyst for his conversion. She recognized his “God given talent” to sing and always said, ”Baby sing for the Lord”. Samuel had another encourager of his singing in his Uncle David Sea, who was a professional singer himself, and later became a member of the group, The Temptations. Samuel would then go on to become a part of the top choral groups in his school and to win various awards. Samuel further developed his vocal skills by taking private and master classes at some of the countries prestigious colleges and music conservatories. Being raised in a Christian home one would think life was perfect. As an evangelist, teacher, and motivational speaker, Samuel’s mother would have him travel with her to minister in song before she spoke. Yes, all seemed perfect and to the outside world. But Samuel is not a stranger to the pain of the human condition. “I think any child that has to grow up in a home with only one parent is awful. I wandered around wearing many masks appearing to be just fine. Secretly, I was dying on the inside. Lost, rejected, wondering who I 25

was. Having suffered from sexual abuse, I carried shame, anger, and bitterness. “But, if not for God...I think those have to be the best words in the bible. Now a life that was broken relationally, emotionally, and sexually, has purpose and meaning. God through his Son truly is the restorer of broken dreams and lives. I am amazed daily by God’s love for me.” Samuel above all is a worshipper. Currently, Samuel resides in the Dallas area and is part of the worship team of Prestonwood Baptist Church. In 2009, Samuel met with producer Eric Copeland of Creative Soul Records in Nashville, TN. Copeland urged Samuel to pursue his singing professionally, and now Samuel is proud to release his first full CD “Secret of Life”. The new album is filled with powerful and triumphant songs about God’s love and the power of the Cross.

ToddO is an Orange County singer/songwriter and a follower of Jesus. Having embarked on a lifetime journey of discovery that has seen him follow many paths, ToddO shares his physical, emotional and spiritual experiences in songs like any other artist: He has to. ToddO has had a host of career arcs in his life, but music has always been his raison d`etre. ToddO stepped into a friend`s home studio in 2010 and began recording some demos. The experience convinced him that he needed a studio of his own. “I first took guitar lessons at the age of eight and learned the basics of chords. I`ve never learned musical theory or studied anywhere except in listening to music. When a song moves me in some way, I try to figure out what about it is so powerful. There is a craft to songwriting as well as an art. And the real inspiration is balancing the two. I`ve been in several bands where I lead and also where I didn`t lead. Sometimes I`ve even taken a back seat role and just played bass guitar. (Truth be told the bass is the most powerful instrument in any band!) At different times of my journey, I`ve even put down music for years-long stretches at a time. During those music sabbaticals, I focused on other pursuits including seemingly non-creative outlets like business. Still, music has never been far from my horizon. I began recording some songs with my friend John Mole who had a studio in his garage in 2010. That lead to my putting together my own home studio in 2011. I record everything myself and edit on a laptop.” “I live in Orange County which is just south of Los Angeles, California, USA. I have two great kids and a wonderful wife. I am a follower of Jesus. I hope you enjoy my music even a fraction as much as I do in putting it together.”

"Her rich voice captivates the listening audience. The boldness and brilliancy of each word she sings combined with the relaxed, low vocal tones of her unique voice can elicit smiles or tears."

Karla's music is a lot like her personality – not shy. The passion she expresses as a vocalist and songwriter are equal to her desire to bring her music and her message to the world. Her CD collection includes "When Your Eyes Open" and “Hope is Alive ~ A Time for Christmas". The inspiring lyrics are the most important detail of her music drawing you in with a powerful message that no one but Karl a can deliver. She continues to redefine the boundaries as an independent music artist being featured on Pandora and on the play lists of many radio stations world-wide. Traditionally it's difficult for independent music artists to get into major retail stores like Mardel, Best Buy, Hastings Entertainment, and Barnes and Noble.
