Originally written as a children’s book by Michael Morpurgo, War Horse was adapted for stage by Nick Stafford. The horses are portrayed by puppets developed by the Handspring Puppet Company, and have captivated audiences in both London’s west end, where the show originally opened, and Broadway. The Adventures of a Horse of War War Horse follows the story of a boy, Albert, from Devon, England and his beloved horse, Joey. Joey is sold to the British cavalry at the start of World War I, and he befriends another horse, Topthorn, as he travels the battlefields of Europe, serving both sides and getting entangled in barbed wire before finding himself left in no‐man’s land. Albert, who hasn’t been able to forget Joey, follows him to Europe in an attempt to find his friend and return him home.
