The story of The Lion King was first told on film in a Walt Disney animated feature. It, like most Walt Disney animated movies, became an instant hit. It was just a matter of time before it was developed for the stage. The Lion King opened on July 8, 1997,in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Orpheum Theatre, and was an instant hit even before premiering on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theater on November 13, 1997. With elements of Hamlet and Biblical tales, Simba follows his destiny, and makes the choice to face his fear. In true heroic fashion, retakes his rightful place on the throne by driving out his uncle and making his father’s spirit proud. The Lion King is a wonderful story for the whole family. It has great costumes and songs with a story that is timeless! You should not miss your chance to see it!


Since it’s opening in 1997, The Lion King has brought huge crowds to Broadway. In the history of Broadway, it is the seventh longest-running play. On June 13, 2006, the Broadway show moved to the Minskoff Theatre. The cast of the London production gave a command performance at the London Palladium on December 11, 2008, to senior members of the British Royal Family. A Canadian production has been staged in Toronto. A Los Angeles production has performed at the Pantages Theatre. The production performed at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney, Australia and at the Regent Theater in Melbourne. It has also played in Johannesburg, South Africa and Paris, France.
