Parents are reminded that all payments should be made by direct deposit, Bpay or through the EFTPOS facility at AZC. The reason for this procedure is twofold: - AZC does not want to handle or hold cash on the premises; and - AZC wants to minimise any bank charges for parents who are withdrawing cash from ATMs to make a fees payment. AZC appreciates your cooperation in this matter. PAGE 2

NUT FREE ZONE Mohamed Soummaka, who is in Kindergarten in 2011, has a severe nut allergy. To prevent a medical emergency, there can be no nuts or foods containing nuts in the school. This includes, especially Nutella and hazelnut products, and anything containing tree nuts. Al Zahra College and the Soummaka family appreciate your assistance in making our College a nut free zone. Thank you in advance for your complete support.
COLLEGE UNIFORM Parents are reminded that they must purchase available uniform items from AZC and missing/out-of-stock items from Yeronga School Uniforms (900 Canterbury Rd, Roselands).
FRIDAY LUNCH CLUB Not everyone likes a busy playground. Some prefer solitude. Sometimes, friendship issues need to be resolved. Taking action, Amenah Hamdy, AZC Welfare Minister in 2001, established a Friday lunch club. Students are invited to attend and participate in a range of interesting activities, as well as meeting the individual needs of students. The Friday Lunch Club is a popular activity and possibly the best initiative implemented by an AZC student. A report on this project will appear in the July edition of IB Matters. Well done, Amenah. VOLUME 14, ISSUE 5: JUNE 2011!
There is concern that some families are substituting College uniform items by purchasing items from unapproved suppliers. Specific concerns are boys’ trousers, school shirts, AZC caps and tracksuit pants. Parents can save themselves a lot of money by ensuring their child’s name is marked clearly on all pieces of clothing. PAGE 3

JUNE 2011
As part of the Transdisciplinary Theme “How We Express Ourselves”, Year 3 did some “designing and making”. Each student designed a system of communication, wrote a procedure on how to make it and then made it using recycled materials. The last step was to reflect and write any modifications they had made to their original design. Some of the work is in the “Inquiry Centre”.
What lines of inquiry will define the scope of the inquiry into the central idea? •

played Iqra in the final, instead of long-term rival Rissalah.
Assuming that 2011 would be no different to The regional futsal championships were held the last two years, ASISSA West determined that at the end of May with our U10 Boys team it was better if an indoor sport was played in reaching the semi finals. Term 2, instead of having the prospect of games Well done, all players! being cancelled due to wet weather. It was a great decision! The AZC girls played the rounds with only a loss to Arkana who had some talented futsal players and dominated the girls’ competition. AZC and Arkana played off in the final. AZC lost the final 2-0. However, the final saw the girls play their best game of the season and were worthy runners up. The AZC boys dominated their competition, although Rissalah and Arkana provided very stiff competition. In fact, AZC was surprised that they
