Payments Parents are reminded that all payments should be made by direct deposit, Bpay or through the EFTPOS facility at AZC. The reason for this procedure is twofold: - AZC does not want to handle or hold cash on the premises; and - AZC wants to minimise any bank charges for parents who are withdrawing cash from ATMs to make a fees payment. AZC appreciates your cooperation in this matter. PAGE 2

The Olympic Games The Olympics is an event that occurs every 4 years. It consists of summer and winter sports. Over 1000 athletes participate in a variety of competitions. It is so popular that over 200 nations and/or countries participate in it. The recent Olympic Games were held in London, England where USA came first, China came second and London’s own Great Britain came third. Unfortunately, Australia came eleventh which isn’t that bad since we only sent 400 people to the Olympics. The Olympics began in Olympia, Greece by a guy named Pierre de Coubertin. The next Olympic Games will be held in Rio De Janero in 2016. The Olympics is an interesting competition known all around the world. Almost 11,000 athletes participate in 26 sports with 306 events.

NUT FREE ZONE Mohamed Soummaka, who is in Year 1 in 2012, has a severe nut allergy. To prevent a medical emergency, there can be no nuts or foods containing nuts in the school. This includes, especially Nutella and hazelnut products, and anything containing tree nuts. Al Zahra College and the Soummaka family appreciate your assistance in making our College a nut free zone. Thank you in advance for your complete support.

COLLEGE UNIFORM Parents are reminded that they must purchase available uniform items from AZC and missing/out-of-stock items from Yeronga School Uniforms (900 Canterbury Rd, Roselands). There is concern that some families are substituting College uniform items by purchasing items from unapproved suppliers. Specific concerns are boys’ trousers, school shirts, AZC caps and tracksuit pants. Parents can save themselves a lot of money by ensuring their child’s name is marked clearly on all pieces of clothing.

The award has existed since 1980, but has only been adopted as the official award for the Player of the Year in the NRL since 1998. Prior to that the official Player of the Year, in both the New South Wales and the Brisbane Rugby Leagues, received the Rothmans Medal whilst the Dally M Medal was awarded by the Daily Mirror newspaper. The International Baccalaureate

PYP Authorization

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who will help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

On December 22nd 2011, AZC was officially authorized as an IB world school for the Primary Years Programme. IB authorization means that AZC has fulfilled the requirements for program implementation including curriculum and policy development. The requirements for authorization are the same in each IB region with the process designed to ensure that schools are well prepared to implement the programme successfully.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. IB programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right The most significant and distinctive feature of the IB Primary Years Program is the six transdisciplinary themes.
