PREFACE

Per natura si intende l’universo considerato nella totalità dei fenomeni e delle forze che in esso si manifestano, da quelli del mondo fisico a quelli della vita in generale.

La natura è la risorsa che permette alla vita stessa di esistere e, se saremo coscienti del fatto che in alcuni casi non sarà eterna, avremo la possibilità di farne uso ancora per molto tempo andando oltre la nostra generazione e quella dei nostri nipoti.

Questo comporta l’utilizzo della nostra personale energia: non possiamo stare con le mani in mano pensando che qualcosa cambierà. Dobbiamo necessariamente fare qualcosa.

UNE S.r.l. è nata proprio così. Era il 2012.

By nature, we mean the universe, considered in terms of all the phenomena and forces manifested within it, from those of the physical world to those of life in general. Nature is the resource that allows life itself to exist, and an awareness that in some cases it will not last forever will enable us to make use of it well beyond our generation and that of our grandchildren. This requires the use of our own personal energy: we cannot sit back in the assumption that something will change; we must be the ones to take action.

This was how UNE S.r.l. came into being, back in 2012.

La spinta di partenza è stata la volontà di creare un’indipendenza energetica alle persone in modo universale naturale energetico, esattamente come previsto nel nostro logo aziendale.

L’intento era quello di cercare di non impattare sull’ambiente e di creare indipendenza anche a livello economico (vediamo cosa sta succedendo da inizio 2022 coi prezzi schizzati alle stelle).

Tutti questi ragionamenti, fatti inizialmente a livello familiare, sono sfociati nella realizzazione di UNE S.r.l.: come racconta il fondatore, Giuliano Scaltriti, «sono partito in principio da solo a cercare dei prodotti che c’erano allora sul mercato per poter creare un nostro prodotto che contenesse al suo interno componenti che avessero tutte queste caratteristiche. Non c’era nulla! L’unica cosa trovata – e che abbiamo iniziato a utilizzare a UNE – è stata questa batteria al sale perché aveva le caratteristiche richieste di non impatto ambientale e di sicurezza. Da lì abbiamo capito come iniziare il percorso dell’azienda. Nel 2010 non esisteva ancora il concetto di “produco energia e la stocco in magazzino per rilasciarla quando ne ho necessità”. Al tempo c’erano pannelli fotovoltaici in un mercato molto “drogato” dagli incentivi dello Stato per far installare impianti fotovoltaici per mettere tutta questa energia in rete».

Nel 2012 abbiamo, quindi, fondato UNE S.r.l.

The initial driver was a desire to create energy independence for people, in a universal, natural way, exactly as envisaged in our company logo.

The intention was to avoid impacting on the environment and to create independence, also in economic terms (we can see what has been happening since the beginning of 2022, with prices skyrocketing).

This thinking, initially developed within the family, led to the creation of UNE S.r.l.. In the words of the founder, Giuliano Scaltriti: ‘I started out on my own, looking for products that were on the market at the time, with a view to creating a product of our own that contained components with all those characteristics. There was nothing! The only thing we found was this salt battery, which we started using at UNE, because it had the required characteristics: it was safe, and with no environmental impact. It was from this that we realised how to proceed. In 2010, the concept of ‘producing energy, storing it and releasing it when I need it’ did not yet exist. At that time, there were photovoltaic panels, in a market that was ‘drugged’ by government incentives for the installation of photovoltaic systems to put all this energy into the grid’.

So in 2012, we founded UNE S.r.l.

Dall’amara constatazione che l’uomo ha sempre mantenuto con l’ambiente un rapporto di sottomissione di quest’ultimo alle sue esigenze, un rapporto unidirezionale – da una parte il diritto allo sfruttamento ma non il dovere della cura dall’altra – e dalla consapevolezza che la visione utilitaristica, produttiva e di profitto ha fatto del depauperamento del pianeta la triste condizione con cui dobbiamo confrontarci, nasce l’idea di un’azienda che possa produrre prodotti in sintonia con l’uomo e con l’ambiente e tra uomo e ambiente.

From the sobering realisation that the relationship between Man and the environment has always been characterised by the submission of the latter to the needs of the former, and that in this one-way relationship, our right to exploit the environment has not been balanced by our duty to take care of it, and from the awareness that this utilitarian, productive and profit-driven vision has led to the impoverishment of the planet we are sadly faced with, came the idea of a company able to manufacture products in harmony with Man and the environment, and between Man and the environment.

L’accento sulla sicurezza

Cosa significa per noi sicurezza? Non è sufficiente pensare a quello che oggi sembra sicuro e senza pericolo: abbiamo abbastanza esperienza e possiamo imparare dagli errori del nostro passato. Idee apparentemente “geniali” in certi momenti storici si sono rivelate con il tempo anacronistiche. Un esempio è la centrale elettrica Montemartini di Roma alimentata da favolosi motori diesel da 7500 hp realizzati dalla Franco Tosi Motori di Legnano. Riuscite ad immaginare le bollette di oggi per alimentare una città utilizzando il Diesel come combustibile?

Sembrava una buona idea. Oggi, invece, è stata trasferita nella centrale elettrica una selezione di sculture e reperti archeologici dei Musei Capitolini: vi sono presenti statue e rovine dell’impero romano, diventati oggi gloriosi reperti archeologici, persi nella notte dei tempi.

Quello che abbiamo immaginato fin dalla fondazione di UNE non è solamente l’indipendenza dalla rete – un off grid sempre funzionale e altamente performante – ma anche la possibilità di creare piccole aree nelle quali sia possibile un interscambio fra le varie strutture.

Era il 2012 e sembrava molto complesso. Era solo un’idea.

Emphasis on safety

What does safety mean for us? It is not enough to consider what seems safe and danger-free today: we have sufficient experience and can learn from the mistakes of our past. Ideas that appeared ‘ingenious’ at certain points in history have subsequently proved anachronistic. One example is the Montemartini power plant in Rome, powered by the fabulous 7500 hp diesel engines made by Franco Tosi Motori of Legnano. Can you imagine what it would cost today to power a city using diesel as fuel?

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Today, however, the power station is home to a selection of sculptures and archaeological artefacts from the Capitoline Museums, including statues and ruins from the Roman Empire, now glorious archaeological finds, lost in the mists of time.

What we have envisioned since the foundation of UNE is not only independence from the grid - a continuously functioning, high-performance off-grid system - but also the possibility to create small areas in which exchange between the various facilities is possible.

Back in 2012, it seemed very complex. It was just an idea.

Una volta avviato il processo per sviluppare un prodotto, è stato necessario reperire tutti gli elementi necessari alla realizzazione del prodotto immaginato.

Abbiamo fatto molta ricerca e smosso mari e monti per trovare quello che ci serviva. Senza sosta abbiamo costruito il futuro che, diventando presente, ci mostrava la strada.

Nel 2014 abbiamo realizzato il primo prototipo di accumulatore e lo abbiamo installato in un’abitazione.

Once the process to develop a product got under way, we had to find all the elements needed to make the product we had imagined.

We did a lot of research, moving heaven and earth to find what we needed.

We worked tirelessly to build the future, which, as it became the present, showed us the way forward.

In 2014, we produced the first accumulator prototype and installed it in a house.

Ricordo quando siamo arrivati in quella casa e abbiamo collegato il primo accumulatore: stavamo iniziando una rivoluzione destinata a cambiare il modo di pensare l’energia; in qualche modo ci stavamo prendendo cura del nostro mondo lasciando un piccolo grande segno nella storia dell’uomo. Non sapevamo ancora dove ci avrebbe portato tutto questo ma la volontà di cambiare il mondo ci ha spinto verso questo obiettivo e accendere quel primo prototipo è stato un po’ come mettere un piede sulla luna, un piccolo importante passo verso l’indipendenza energetica.

I remember when we arrived at the house and plugged in the first accumulator: we were starting a revolution destined to change the way we thought about energy; in a sense, we were taking care of our world, and leaving a small yet important mark on the history of mankind. We didn’t yet know where all this was going to take us, but the desire to change the world drove us towards this goal, and switching on that first prototype was a bit like putting one foot on the moon: a small yet significant step towards energy independence.

Horizon 2020 o H2020 è lo strumento di finanziamento alla ricerca scientifica e all’innovazione della Commissione europea dotato di un budget tra i più alti del mondo: quasi 80 miliardi di euro, per sette anni, dal 2014 al 2020. I fondi stanziati sono a gestione diretta.

Il “Seal of Excellence” è un marchio di qualità assegnato dalla Commissione europea a eccellenti proposte progettuali di Ricerca e Innovazione presentate in risposta ai bandi Horizon 2020, valutate positivamente (punteggio sopra soglia) ma non finanziate per l’esaurimento delle risorse disponibili. L’iniziativa vuole riconoscere il valore delle proposte di alta qualità, sostenendole nella ricerca di finanziamenti alternativi.

Per quanto riguarda lo SME Instrument – lo schema di finanziamento di Horizon 2020 dedicato esclusivamente alle Piccole e Medie Imprese – la soglia di qualità è complessivamente di almeno 13 punti su 15; inoltre, le proposte devono anche aver superato la soglia di ogni singolo criterio di valutazione: impatto, eccellenza, implementazione.

Horizon 2020 or H2020 is the European Commission’s scientific research and innovation funding instrument. It had one of the highest budgets in the world: almost € 80 billion, for seven years, from 2014 to 2020. The funds allocated were managed directly.

The ‘Seal of Excellence’ was a quality label awarded by the European Commission to outstanding Research and Innovation project proposals submitted in response to Horizon 2020 calls, evaluated positively (with a score above the threshold) but not funded because the resources available had been used up. The Seal sought to acknowledge the value of high-quality proposals by supporting them in their search for alternative funding.

For the SME Instrument - the Horizon 2020 funding scheme dedicated exclusively to Small and Medium Enterprisesthe quality threshold is a total of at least 13 points out of 15. In addition, proposals must also have obtained a score above the threshold for each individual evaluation criterion: impact, excellence and implementation.

La tecnologia di accumulo di energia al sale

Rispetto alle normali batterie contenenti litio e piombo, questa rivoluzionaria tecnologia per l’immagazzinamento dell’energia è molto più sicura, in quanto elimina il pericolo di combustione, e molto più rispettosa dell’ambiente, grazie allo sfruttamento di una sostanza naturale come il sale.

La tecnologia al sale garantisce una performance di maggiore qualità e durata (20 anni) e può rimanere inutilizzata per molto tempo, anche a temperature critiche (-20°C/+60°C), senza danneggiarsi. Ma vi è anche di più: una delle funzionalità che rende unico il sistema che la batteria al sale alimenta è il suo esclusivo sistema di backup. Il flusso energetico stoccato e mantenuto può infatti essere utilizzato nei momenti di blackout, quando il prelievo di energia dalla rete pubblica risulterebbe impossibile. Questa tecnologia è amica dell’ambiente perché la batteria al sale utilizza semplice sale da cucina, ha un peso notevolmente ridotto (anche rispetto a sistemi al litio), non richiede manutenzione, ha grande autonomia, è insensibile alle temperature esterne e i suoi componenti sono completamente riciclabili (non rientra neppure nella categoria dei rifiuti speciali).

Salt energy storage technology

Compared to normal batteries containing lithium and lead, this revolutionary energy storage technology is much safer, because it eliminates the risk of combustion, and much more environmentally friendly, thanks to the exploitation of a natural substance such as salt.

Salt technology guarantees a higher-quality, more durable performance (20 years) and can remain unused for a long time, even at critical temperatures (-20°C/+60°C), without being damaged. But it offers even more: one of the features that makes the salt battery system unique is its exclusive backup system: the energy flow stored and maintained can be used during blackouts, when it would be impossible to draw energy from the public grid. This technology is environmentally friendly, because the salt battery uses simple table salt, has a significantly reduced weight (even compared to lithium systems), requires no maintenance, has lengthy autonomy, is unaffected by outside temperatures, and its components are completely recyclable (it does not even fall into the special waste category).

InteGRIDy è l’unico progetto europeo nato nell’ambito di Horizon 2020 con l’obiettivo di progettare e sviluppare piattaforme innovative finalizzate all’ammodernamento e all’efficientamento della rete elettrica europea.

ZHERO® Engineered by UNE è stato scelto per il progetto pilota su larga scala di San Severino Marche, fra le prestigiose entità del consortium: Politecnico di Milano, Università degli Studi di Roma La Sapienza, University of Newcastle Upon Tyne.

InteGRIDy is the only European project created within the framework of Horizon 2020 with the objective of designing and developing innovative platforms for modernising and improving the efficiency of the European electricity grid.

ZHERO® Engineered by UNE was chosen for the largescale pilot project in San Severino Marche. Among the prestigious entities of the consortium are the Polytechnic University of Milan, La Sapienza University of Rome, and the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne.

After studying the electronic components necessary for its production (we were aware that the product would have to be a symbol of UNE, and thus utilise the natural energy present in the universe without negatively impacting it, but simply using it as effectively as possible and then releasing it without negative consequences), we considered five key points:

The ZHERO® Accumulator Engineered by UNE is like a rechargeable super battery. It can be used to power an entire house or even an entire company. It is produced entirely in Italy and is completely ecological.

AUTONOMIA ENERGETICA

Come avevamo immaginato nel 2012, abbiamo perseguito il nostro scopo: raggiungere l’autonomia energetica e dare la possibilità, a persone non raggiunte dalla rete, di poter avere un sostegno energetico che potesse rendere loro la vita più agevole, in modo sostenibile.

Nel 2019 abbiamo portato i nostri ZHERO® in luoghi complicati da questo punto di vista, progettato sistemi per moduli abitativi autonomi e acceso le luci e i frigoriferi in un villaggio di pescatori in Burundi. I nostri sistemi di accumulo sono stati utilizzati anche per diversi mezzi di trasporto come autobus e treni di collegamento, ricevendo premi per diverse di queste attività.

ENERGY INDEPENDENCE

As we had envisioned in 2012, we pursued our goal: to achieve energy independence and offer people reached by the grid the opportunity to obtain sustainable energy support that could make their lives easier.

In 2019, we took our ZHERO® to places that presented challenges in this sense, designed systems for independent housing modules and switched on lights and refrigerators in a fishing village in Burundi. Our storage systems have also been used for various means of transport, such as buses and connecting trains, receiving awards for several of these activities.

L’AZIENDA

Il complesso aziendale, completamente bianco – il primo tra i colori, che rappresenta libertà, pace, purificazione, nuovi inizi, e che evoca sensazioni che rimandano all’ordine, alla chiarezza, alla leggerezza – si trova a Correggio, a 10 km dall’avveniristica stazione dell’AV di Reggio Emilia.

Dopo aver valutato la visuale libera verso il paesaggio rurale posto a sud e lo “sfondato” verso le montagne, l’orientamento e il soleggiamento durante la giornata, è nata l’idea di un Campus aperto verso il paesaggio, con una grande corte centrale esposta a sud.

Il complesso è distinto funzionalmente in due parti autonome: il volume regolare e “cartesiano” dell’edificio produttivo è stato posizionato nel lato nord-est, mentre gli uffici e le altre funzioni sono stati raccolti in volumi posti nel lato sud, concepiti come un’architettura organica e irregolare, costituita da diversi volumi con altezze variabili e organizzata attorno alla piazza.

Dall’ingresso si accede all’ala sinistra del complesso, dove sono ospitati gli uffici disposti su tre piani, e una zona per la formazione, workshop e conferenze, quest’ultima sviluppata solo al piano terra.

Fedele allo scopo di preservare l’ambiente, UNE S.r.l. è auto alimentata all’80% per mezzo dei suoi Accumulatori.

La nostra sede è stata inoltre progettata per resistere alle particolari sollecitazioni che si sviluppano durante un terremoto: sono state adottate particolari tecnologie progettuali innovative e utilizzati materiali specifici per salvaguardare la sicurezza di chi occupa l’edificio, assicurando al contempo la massima solidità dello stesso.

THE COMPANY

The company complex, which is completely white - the first among colours, representing freedom, peace, purification and new beginnings, and evoking a sense of order, clarity and lightness - is located in Correggio, 10 km from the futuristic Reggio Emilia high-speed rail station.

After evaluating the unobstructed view towards the rural landscape to the south and the “breakthrough” towards the mountains, the orientation and the sunshine during the day, came the idea of a campus opening out towards the landscape, with a large central courtyard facing south.

The complex is functionally divided into two independent parts: the regular, ‘Cartesian’ volume of the factory building has been positioned on the north-east side, while the offices and other departments are located in buildings on the south side, conceived as an organic and irregular architecture, consisting of several volumes with varying heights and organised around the square.

The entrance leads to the left wing of the complex, which houses the offices on three floors, and a ground-floor area for training, workshops and conferences.

In keeping with the aim of preserving the environment, its Accumulators provide UNE S.r.l. with 80 per cent of the energy the complex requires.

Our premises have also been designed to withstand the particular stresses that develop during an earthquake: special innovative design technologies have been adopted and specific materials used to protect the safety of the building’s occupants, while ensuring maximum solidity.

ENERGY INDEPENDENCE IN THE SOCIAL SPHERE

The answer to the energy independence we all aspire to has always been right there staring us in the face, and all we need to do is effectively manage the wonderful resource that is the sun.

With roughly 1% of the energy transmitted from the sun to the earth by radiation, mankind could satisfy all its energy needs: just as all other life forms have always done.

Prompted by this awareness, we have vowed from the outset to bring energy independence to particularly ‘unfortunate’ places on the planet, such as Burundi, which conflict and famine have made one of the ten poorest in the world. An off-grid photovoltaic system was installed in the municipal market of Gitaza, 30 km from Bujumbura.

Thanks to ESI’s photovoltaic system and the use of totally environmentally friendly, sustainable ZHERO® accumulators using salt technology, since 2021, the Gitaza market in Burundi – with a totally independent electricity supply - has been able to switch on lights and refrigerators for the storage of perishable foodstuffs such as fish from Lake Tanganyika. Per noi l’energia è quella che abbiamo “creato” al di là dell’energia reale, perché Il mercato può rimanere in tal modo aperto anche di notte e la gente può frequentarlo, i bambini possono cominciare ad avere i primi cellulari con la relativa ricarica. Cose che prima erano per loro mera utopia.

L’energia che si è creata, quindi, non è solamente quella elettrica, ma è proprio l’energia “tutta”.

We have brought energy, and this energy has produced civilisation, and an increase in the quality of life in an area where the ‘law of the fittest’ generally used to apply. Access to light, and to the schooling that allowed for, have brought well-being, distributed in complete safety, as was also pointed out by the President of Burundi, who has already sent us a request for cost estimates for 11 other projects like this one. For us, energy is what we have ‘created’ over and above real energy, because the market can stay open at night and people can visit it, and children can start getting their first mobile phones and charging them. These were things they could once only dream about.

The energy created, therefore, is not just electrical energy, but ‘all’ energy.

L’Airbus A320 di Germanwings precipita sulle Alpi francesi con 150 persone a bordo. L’allarme viene lanciato alle 10 e mezza dalla direzione generale del controllo aereo francese. Il contatto radio con l’Airbus A320 di Germanwings (la compagnia low cost della tedesca Lufthansa) in viaggio tra Barcellona (da dov’era partito alle 10) e Düsseldorf (dove avrebbe dovuto arrivare alle 11.55) si interrompe improvvisamente. Alcuni minuti più tardi, tra 8 e 12, l’aereo si schianta, a 1.500 metri di altitudine, contro una delle pareti della Tête de l’Estrop, montagna di 2.961 metri che fa parte della catena dei Trois-Evêchés, nelle Alpi dell’Alta Provenza, non lontano dal confine con l’Italia.

La causa? Tra le ipotesi anche l’esplosione delle batterie al litio. Perlomeno è quello che ha sostenuto il consulente aeronautico Bernard Chabbert, intervistato dalla televisione francese Europe 1.

The Airbus A320 of Germanwings crashed in the French Alps, with 150 people on board. The alarm was raised at 10.30 a.m. by the French air traffic control directorate-general. Radio contact with the Airbus A320 of Germanwings (the low-cost company of the German flagship airline Lufthansa) travelling between Barcelona (from where it had left at 10.00 a.m.) and Düsseldorf (where it was supposed to arrive at 11.55 a.m.) suddenly broke down. Somewhere between 8 and 12 minutes later, the plane crashed, at an altitude of 1,500 metres, into one of the walls of the Tête de l’Estrop, a 2,961-metre mountain in the Trois-Evêchés chain, in the Alpes de Haute-Provence, not far from the Italian border.

One of the possible causes was the explosion of lithium batteries, or so claimed aviation consultant Bernard Chabbert when interviewed by the French television channel Europe 1.

«Le batterie al litio degli smartphone o nei computer portatili possono esplodere», ha affermato Chabbert che non ha escluso che in cabina di pilotaggio la batteria di bordo possa aver preso fuoco. Quando le batterie bruciano, ha dichiarato, «vengono emessi fumi altamente tossici in grado di uccidere in circa 10 secondi», ricordando come una decina di anni prima esplosero su un volo di linea 170 pile.

Sul traghetto elettrico norvegese che collega Oslofjord con la contea di Troms, nella Norvegia settentrionale, si verifica un’esplosione.

La barca Ytterøyningen, in mare da oltre 12 anni e riconvertita recentemente in ibrida, prende fuoco.

Le fiamme partono dalla sala batterie per cause non precisate dove si trovavano i pacchi batterie Li-NMC. Fortunatamente non ci sono feriti perché il traghetto elettrico riesce a raggiungere il porto e a trarre in salvo le persone che sono a bordo.

‘Lithium batteries in smartphones or laptops can explode,’ said Chabbert, who did not rule out the possibility that the on-board battery might have caught fire in the cockpit. When batteries burn, he said, ‘highly toxic fumes are emitted that can kill in about 10 seconds’, recalling how 170 batteries had exploded on a scheduled flight a decade earlier.

October 2019

On the Norwegian electric ferry connecting Oslofjord with Troms County in northern Norway, an explosion occurred.

The Ytterøyningen boat, at sea for over 12 years and recently converted to a hybrid, caught fire. The flames started, due to unspecified causes, in the battery room, where the Li-NMC battery packs were located.

Fortunately, there were no injuries, because the electric ferry managed to reach the port, and the people on board were rescued.

Le cause non sono chiare perché l’esplosione ha creato un accumulo di gas tossico ed esplosivo che ostacola le prime indagini.

Dopo l’incidente l’Autorità marittima norvegese (NMA) raccomanda agli altri operatori del settore di tenere sotto controllo le batterie dei propri traghetti elettrici e di usare alcune precauzioni: in particolare, gli operatori dei traghetti non devono navigare con la comunicazione disattivata tra il sistema di gestione dell’energia e il sistema di gestione della batteria. È molto probabile che sia stata proprio questa la causa dell’esplosione delle batterie.

Giugno 2021

Durante la notte c’è una grossa esplosione all’interno di una ex cartiera nel nord dello stato americano dell’Illinois, ritenuta da tempo abbandonata da parte delle forze dell’ordine del posto.

L’incendio successivo diviene talmente violento e instabile da scoraggiare l’intervento dei vigili del fuoco locali, in quanto un’azione esterna potrebbe persino provocare ulteriori esplosioni. Il motivo di tanta cautela risiede nella presenza, all’interno dell’edificio, di almeno 100 tonnellate

The causes were unclear, because the explosion created a build-up of toxic and explosive gas, which hindered initial investigations.

After the accident, the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) recommended that other ferry operators keep an eye on the batteries of their electric ferries and take certain precautions: specifically, ferry operators should not sail with communication disabled between the energy management system and the battery management system. It is very likely that this was the cause of the battery explosion.

June 2021

During the night, in the northern US state of Illinois, there was a large explosion inside a former paper mill that had long since been considered abandoned by local law enforcement.

The fire that followed became so violent and unstable that it discouraged the local fire brigade from intervening, since an external action might even cause further explosions. This caution was exercised due to the presence of at least 100 tonnes of lithium ion batteries

Il capo dei vigili del fuoco fa sapere, in seguito alla raccolta di quante più informazioni possibili, che tutte queste batterie rappresentano la somma di piccole unità per smartphone ma anche grossi pacchi batteria per autovetture.

Questi esempi stanno a dimostrare che le batterie al litio possono essere pericolose, prendere fuoco ed esplodere, sia perché sono particolarmente soggette al surriscaldamento, sia perché potrebbe danneggiarsi lo strato protettivo (separatore) interposto tra le diverse pellicole metalliche che le compongono. Se questo strato protettivo viene lacerato, infatti, l’energia accumulata potrebbe sprigionarsi all’improvviso.

Nel rapporto “Rischi connessi con lo stoccaggio di sistemi di accumulo litio-ione”, pubblicato dal Corpo Nazionale dei Vigili del Fuoco (Cnvvf) e dall’Ente per le nuove tecnologie, l’energia e l’ambiente (Enea) per il 2021, vengono segnalati incidenti di varia gravità su determinati dispositivi.

These examples show that lithium batteries can be dangerous, catch fire and explode, both because they are particularly prone to overheating and because the protective layer (separator) between the different metal films they are composed of could be damaged. If this protective layer is torn, the energy stored could suddenly be released.

In the report ‘Risks associated with lithium-ion storage systems’, published by the Italian National Fire Brigade (CNVVF) and the Italian Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA) for 2021, incidents of varying severity on certain devices were reported.

Tra i casi più recenti, l’esplosione di una delle berline elettriche californiane in Russia, avvenuta non molto tempo dopo lo scontro con un carro attrezzi proprio agli inizi di giugno 2022.

Oltre ai problemi dovuti a surriscaldamento e urti, la batteria – se danneggiata – può anche rilasciare gas tossici; inoltre gli incendi provocati da questi accumulatori sono ad ampia e rapida diffusione e difficili da contenere utilizzando i metodi tradizionali. Insomma, in questo caso l’acqua non spegne l’incendio, ma piuttosto peggiora la situazione.

Un cambio di direzione si rende necessario.

There are also numerous cases of vehicles made by Tesla, Elon Musk’s famous electric car company, exploding as a result of overheating or collisions. Among the most recent cases is the explosion of one of the Californian electric saloon cars in Russia, which occurred not long after it collided with a tow truck in early June 2022.

In addition to the problems caused by overheating and collisions, the battery - if damaged - can also release toxic gases, and fires caused by these accumulators spread widely and quickly, and are difficult to contain using traditional methods. In short, in this case, water does not put out the fire, but indeed makes it worse.

Siamo consapevoli del fatto che la civiltà, come la conosciamo, potrebbe mutare. Ma sappiamo anche che l’energia delle persone, tra le persone e tra l’uomo e l’ambiente rimarrà per sempre.

Del resto, l’esistenza dell’Energia Vitale e la sua influenza sulla salute del corpo umano erano note in India fin dal 5.000 a.C. Questa energia universale era denominata Prona ed era considerata la fonte di tutte le forme di vita.

Gli yogi praticavano e praticano il controllo di quest’energia mediante tecniche respiratorie, posture specifiche e soprattutto con la meditazione; questi metodi conducono a uno stato di coscienza superiore che mette l’uomo in armonia con l’universo tanto che consentono il protrarsi di uno stato di efficienza del corpo, quasi di giovinezza, molto a lungo.

I cinesi conoscono l’esistenza del Chi, energia vitale, fin dal 3.000 a.C. In base alla loro concezione tutta la materia dell’Universo, animata o non, è costituita e impregnata di questa energia. Il Chi contiene due forze polari, lo Yin (maschile) e lo Yang (femminile), attraverso cui si esprime l’energia universale e il cui equilibrio dona piena salute fisica e psicologica.

We are aware that civilisation, as we know it, may change. But we also know that the energy of people, between people and between people and the environment will remain forever.

As stated by Elizabeth Maruma Mrema of the Secretariat of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), ‘this landmark report emphasises that humanity is at a crossroads in terms of the legacy we wish to leave to future generations.’ To use an evocative image (‘Prometheus has been unleashed’), our confidence in the wonders of technology has never been higher. But at the same time, we have demonstrated limitations in our ability to exist in harmony with the Earth and with Nature, reduced to an enclave of Man.

As emphasised above, we are at a crossroads: we can either go against the universal energy of nature, or work in harmony with it. We are certain that the latter will be beneficial for human health, as well as for the environment.

After all, Vital Energy and its influence on the health of the human body were known to exist in India as far back as 5,000 BC. This universal energy was called Prona, and was considered the source of all forms of life.

Yogis practised - and continue to practise - the control of this energy through breathing techniques, specific postures and, above all, through meditation; these methods lead to a higher state of consciousness that places mankind in harmony with the universe to such an extent that they allow a state of efficiency of the body, almost of youthfulness, to continue for a very long time.

The Chinese have known of the existence of Chi, or vital energy, since 3,000 BC. According to their conception, all matter in the Universe, animate or not, is constituted by and impregnated with this energy. Chi contains two polar forces: Yin (masculine) and Yang (feminine), through which universal energy is expressed and whose balance results in full physical and mental health.

In Giappone l’energia viene chiamata Ki, termine che designa quell’energia dinamica sottile che è presente in tutte le cose. Tutto è dotato di Ki, che si tratti di minerali, di vegetali, di animali o di esseri umani, ma il ritmo e la qualità della vibrazione energetica variano a seconda dei casi: quando un individuo è sano il ritmo e la qualità delle sue vibrazioni sono in armonia con quelle dell’ambiente circostante.

Nella cultura cristiana, invece, la presenza di quest’energia è riconosciuta dall’aura di luce che viene disegnata attorno ai santi e a Gesù.

Nella letteratura occidentale l’esistenza dell’Energia Vitale fu studiata per la prima volta attorno al 500 a.C. dai Pitagorici. Essa era percepita come un corpo illuminato. Questa luce poteva produrre effetti differenti sull’organismo umano, compresa la cura di diverse malattie.

Paracelso, celebre medico del XVI secolo, considerava l’Energia Vitale come un’entità composta da forza e materia

vitale, un’essenza irradiante che mediante l’immaginazione poteva produrre effetti benefici o causare malattie. Egli attribuiva grande importanza all’immaginazione, in quanto motore di questa forza vitale.

Mesmer nel XIX secolo, studiando altre proprietà dei fenomeni legati all’Energia Universale, concluse che gli oggetti animati o inanimati sono avvolti da un flusso atmosferico che può essere proiettato a distanza e che quindi è in grado di influenzare altri corpi.

Questo flusso atmosferico è quello che oggi viene chiamato Aura e corpo aurico grazie al dott. William Kilner che all’inizio del secolo scorso studiò il campo energetico umano per mezzo di schermi e filtri colorati, constatando che attorno al corpo umano c’erano degli “strati di luce” che denominò appunto Aura. Proseguendo poi le ricerche osservò che questi strati di luce differivano da un soggetto all’altro, a seconda dell’età, del sesso, dello stato di salute sia fisico sia mentale e che certe malattie corrispondevano a macchie o irregolarità dell’aura stessa.

In Japan, energy is called Ki, a term for the subtle, dynamic energy that is present in all things. Everythingminerals, plants, animals or human beings - is endowed with Ki, but the rhythm and quality of the energy vibration vary: when an individual is healthy, the rhythm and quality of his or her vibrations are in harmony with those of the surrounding environment.

In Christian culture, meanwhile, the presence of this energy is recognised by the aura of light drawn around the saints and Jesus.

In Western literature, the existence of Vital Energy was first studied around 500 BC by the Pythagoreans. It was perceived as an illuminated body. This light could produce different effects on the human body, and could cure various diseases.

Paracelsus, a famous 16th century physician, regarded Vital Energy as an entity composed of vital matter and force, a radiating essence that through imagination

could produce beneficial effects or cause illness. He attached great importance to the imagination as the driver of this vital force.

In the 19th century, Mesmer, when studying other properties of phenomena related to Universal Energy, concluded that animate or inanimate objects are enveloped by an atmospheric flow that can be projected at a distance and is therefore able to influence other bodies.

This atmospheric flow is what is now called the Aura and auric body, thanks to Dr. William Kilner, who, at the beginning of the last century, studied the human energy field using coloured screens and filters, noting that there were ‘layers of light’ around the human body, which he called the Aura. As he continued his research, he observed that these layers of light differed from one subject to the next, depending on age, gender, state of physical and mental health, and that certain illnesses corresponded to blemishes or irregularities in the Aura itself.

Ma lo studio più approfondito dal punto di vista scientifico dell’Energia Vitale Universale fu condotto negli anni ’30 e ’40 da Wilhelm Reich, medico psichiatra e collega di Sigmund Freud, il quale studiò inizialmente l’energia emozionale umana.

Egli studiò l’alterazione del flusso di energia nel corpo umano e il suo rapporto con le malattie fisiche e psichiche.

Sviluppò così una modalità psicoterapeutica che integrava la tecnica analitica freudiana con alcune tecniche fisiche destinate a sbloccare il flusso naturale dell’energia nel corpo.

Reich fu il primo scienziato che poté dimostrare oggettivamente la presenza dell’energia orgonica (come lui chiamò l’energia vitale) costruendo strumenti come l’orgonscopio, con il quale poté rilevare la presenza di orgon nell’aria, il microscopio ottico modificato grazie al quale poteva dimostrare l’esistenza di energia orgonica nelle cellule viventi; e ancora il misuratore del

campo orgono-energetico atto a misurare il campo energetico negli organismi viventi.

Costruì anche un accumulatore energetico per concentrare l’energia cosmica necessaria per caricare diversi oggetti, soprattutto come mezzo di carica energetica in soggetti gravemente malati.

L’accumulatore energetico era una scatola di legno di diverse dimensioni, in cui potevano essere inseriti oggetti e persone, che aveva la caratteristica di concentrare energia al suo interno grazie alla presenza sulle pareti di strati alternati di sostanza organica e di ferro.

Grazie a questa strumentazione diede inizio ad un programma di trattamento di malattie gravi e con l’impiego dell’accumulatore riuscì a documentare dei miglioramenti delle condizioni generali di tanti pazienti.

However, the most in-depth scientific study of Universal Vital Energy was conducted in the 1930s and 1940s by Wilhelm Reich, a psychiatrist and colleague of Sigmund Freud, who initially studied human emotional energy.

He studied the alteration of the energy flow in the human body and its relationship to physical and mental illnesses.

He thus developed a psychotherapeutic modality that integrated the Freudian analytical technique with certain physical techniques designed to unblock the natural flow of energy in the body.

Reich was the first scientist able to objectively demonstrate the presence of orgone energy (as he called vital energy), by building instruments such as the orgonscope, which he used to detect the presence of orgone in the air; the modified optical microscope he used to demonstrate the existence of orgone energy in living cells, and the orgoneenergy field meter, used to measure the energy field in living organisms.

He also built an energy accumulator to concentrate the cosmic energy needed to charge various objects, especially as a means of energy charging in individuals seriously ill.

The energy accumulator was a wooden box of different sizes, in which objects and people could be placed, and which concentrated energy inside thanks to the presence of alternating layers of organic substance and iron on the walls.

With this equipment, he started a programme to treat serious illnesses, and used the accumulator to document improvements in the general condition of many patients.
