Main Purpose •

Develop, implement and maintain a scheme of work for a rolling programme of training, which effectively addresses the training needs of Learners on all Hairdressing and Barbering programmes with respect to the requirements of the National Standards for their chosen qualification framework.

Develop and maintain effective and innovative lesson plans; teaching resources and methodologies; Study Packs and enjoyable learning activities to achieve the above, in accordance with Learners individual learning styles and additional support requirements.

Ensure teaching and training methods utilise appropriate technological resources and activity, sufficient to stimulate and engage Learner interest, enjoyment and professional aspirations.

Evaluate and assess the effectiveness of teaching and learning consistently and regularly throughout the rolling programme to ascertain Learner feedback in respect of enjoyment of the course/s effectiveness of teaching methods, resources and delivery and the impact these have on retention and achievement.

Importance of This Role The post-holder ensures that Learners engage immediately with effective and enjoyable teaching and learning processes from the commencement of their programme; evidence progression of their learning and achieve the examination requirements of their Individual Learning Plans.

Management The post-holder is responsible to the Programme Manager by means of day-to-day line management.

Principal Responsibilities Strategic Planning. 1. Develop and maintain a thorough and effective knowledge of the occupational qualification and requirements (National Standards). 2. Develop and maintain (through training if required and agreed) appropriate teaching qualification/s and experience; sufficient to deliver the relevant curriculum for Learners and participate in requisite company CPD practices as directed. 3. Positively influence, development of learner retention and achievement, where this relates to effective, enjoyable learning and evidence of timely progression towards qualifications and examination readiness. 4. Positively influence and liaise with staff (leading by example) to ensure staff have a standardised understanding of the key elements of the teaching curricula and requirements. 5. Communication with all staff will be respectful and honest to ensure professionalism, ownership and commitment; this will result in all staff being clear as to exactly what is expected of them in relation to supporting Learner attendance or involvement with Rolling Programme of Training and progress requirements. 6. Support the development and standardisation of occupational ‘Guided Learning Resources’ (Study Packs/OneFile) by direct liaison with Programme Manager and the Quality Director. 7. Liaise directly with the Quality Department to learn the process of Registration for examinations and ensure that all Hairdressing Learners fulfil all of the registration and tracking processes that lead to successful examination outcomes. 8. Effectively manage and control all mock occupational examinations; ensuring these happen at appropriate times within the learning process (Rolling Programme) by means of regular and rigorous liaison and co-ordination with Learners; their Assessors and or employer/placement managers. 9. Utilise and develop standard Company evaluation methods to evidence; ‘Effectiveness of Training’, ‘Learning taking place’, ‘Training is enjoyable’ and ‘Progress towards occupational achievement; reporting results and progress of all Learners to the Programme Manager, the Learners themselves and the Assessors responsible for them. a. One File Tracking b. Unit evaluation 10. Record and collate statistical information year on year, which supports the setting of realistic company targets for quality improvement and learner achievement/success rates. These will be compared to and driven by national regional and local benchmarks.

Learner Training/Teaching 11. To ensure overall that Learners are equipped to achieve occupational and functional skills examinations by: a.

Ensuring the Scheme of work reflects the requirements of the occupational curriculum.

b.

Ensuring that ‘Lesson Plans’ for teaching delivery include logical and progressive learning objectives sufficient to appropriately and adequately motivate and engage Learners on the programme.

c.

Ensuring teaching and activities are enjoyable, relevant and appropriate to the learning outcomes and Learner’s interests, aspirations and National Standards.

Ensure that appropriate and effective methods are utilised to evaluate ‘Learning taking place’ within every teaching session; i.e. quizzes, oral questioning, practical activity, research methods, competence through assessment etc.

Inform all Learners of the resources, support and ‘Learning Aids’ available to them within the business and encourage by appropriate means, their access to and use of these, namely; i. ii. iii. iv. v. vi.

Establish attendance modes of Learners for delivery of the scheme of work ‘in centre’ and where required, alternative workplace delivery of the ‘scheme of work’ for Learners who find it difficult to attend centre (using Study Packs initially where appropriate and approved for use by the Programme Manager.

g.

Actively monitor and record attendance of Learners whether at the training centre or in the workplace and report absence immediately to the Programme Manager and the respective employer or placement manager; keeping documented evidence of attendance and absence.

h.

Actively encourage and improve attendance to the rolling programme by appropriate means; liaising and encouraging employers/placement managers about the benefits to their respective business; thus positively impacting on the company’s retention and achievement rates.

i.

Inform and support ‘Reviews of Learner Progress’ with Assessment staff in accordance with Company and SFA/EFA requirements using standard Company documentation.

j.

Accurately mark Learners ‘work assignments and Study Packs’ providing effective guidance where appropriate in professional feedback and return work promptly to maximise progression, motivation and sustained interest.

k.

Evaluate training and teaching at agreed, regular and strategic points within the scheme of work. i.e. completion of each unit / module; making adjustment or amendments from feedback as appropriate.

l.

Participation in ‘Standardisation’ processes within the business for sharing best practice of curriculum and teaching delivery; making relevant adjustments where and when identified.

m.

Ensure that the dedicated training room allocated to the department is kept in pristine condition; reporting cleaning issues or equipment or resource breakages to the Programme Manager without delay.

12. Problems are effectively identified; decisions and solutions are implemented quickly, based upon objective analysis of the facts and in consultation with Line Management. 13. The post-holder is responsible for implementing effective activities, mentoring, One to One guidance and other methods to ensure that the needs of learners are met. 14. Ensure liaison with all assessment staff through formal weekly team meetings to establish a seamless information exchange about Learner progress and engagement within the teaching process. 15. Compile and report weekly/monthly activity analysis. Produce statistical analysis and objective evaluation of occupational teaching’ initiatives, for SAR purposes.
