WELCOME

This Spring marks one year since we formally launched the St Paul’s Community programme with the aim of creating an active and thriving community. We are grateful to all those who have organised, supported and advised so far, which has helped us to improve and refine a programme to engage as many OPs, parents (current and former), staff and friends of St Paul’s as possible. This Spring we will be launching our widening access campaign with the aim of restoring John Colet’s vision to educate able boys regardless of their means or background. We look forward to sharing more information about how you might wish to become involved in the coming months. Best wishes for 2019. Professor Mark Bailey High Master

A warm welcome to our Spring 2019 Community Programme. Over the past year, over 3,500 of you have joined us at events at School, in London or around the world and I have enjoyed meeting you, hearing your stories and understanding each of your connections to the School. Whether you are fascinated by Van Gogh, would like to cheer along the tow path at the Head of the River, are interested in creating your own clay art or simply want to join us for an evening of good wine, we hope 2019 brings even more opportunities for you to participate in the activity of our community and to share in the future of St Paul’s. Monday 11 March 7.30pm Wathen Hall, St Paul’s School Dr Carol Jacobi will give a special introduction to the forthcoming Tate Britain EY Exhibition: Van Gogh and Britain. Her talk will elaborate how Van Gogh was inspired by British art, literature and culture throughout his career and how he in turn inspired British artists. “Vincent van Gogh is without a doubt one of the greatest and most influential artists of all time. His stay in Britain changed his vision of the world and himself, encouraging him to become an artist. This is an exciting opportunity for us to reveal the impact Britain had on Van Gogh as well as the enormous influence he had on British artists. 6.30pm Alternating venues Continuing this pilot event series from the autumn term, we invite OPs from across the generations to join us on the Third Thursday of each month in January, February and March. This event series is an opportunity for OPs to meet and reconnect in venues across London and to share good conversation over a drink or two.

7.00pm Wathen Hall, St Paul’s School As part of the Barnes Music Festival 2019, St Paul’s School is proud to partner with local primary schools and the Rodolfus Choir to present a programme of music inspired by flight and of Leonardo da Vinci’s flying machines in particular. The programme will include the world premiere of a new commission by St Paul’s School’s Director of Music, Mark Wilderspin.
