Create a Crossing
Road Sign Hunt
Create a pedestrian crossing using tape or chalk on the floor.
In a safe environment, set up a road sign scavenger hunt.
Use toy cars, or create your own cardboard cut-out vehicles, and allow your students to practice stopping at the crossing and looking both ways before proceeding.
Students can then discuss what each road sign means and why they help us stay safe.
Community Walk
Get Crafty!
Organise a walk around the local area.
Allow your students to use art supplies to create road signs or road safety items (traffic cones, lights etc).
On the walk, point out various road signs and safety practices, explaining their importance and reinforcing what your students’ have learnt.
Safety Bean Bag Toss
Simon Says
Set up a game using pictures of road safety signs or signs your students have created.
Using ‘Simon Says’, allow your students to act out different road safety scenarios.
Call out a sign and allow your students to throw their bean bag at the road sign target. Ask your students why the sign is important.
For example: “Simon says, look left and right before crossing a road”.

Journey to School
Traffic Light Game
Provide various costumes and props and allow your students to act out their journey to school.
Use coloured paper to create a set of traffic lights and discuss the meaning of each colour.
How do they stay safe on their journey? Do they walk or cycle? Or are they driven?
Allow your students to mimic the actions of each one - stopping, slowing down, and going - either as themselves or using toy cars.
