PASSION CHAOS TOLERANCE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS September 22nd-25th 7.30 p.m. Downtown New York is the setting for a tale of good versus evil, where Seymour – a nerdy florist’s assistant – fights for the survival of mankind against a giant plant with a macabre craving. Throw in a love story and some sadistic dentistry and the stage is set for a journey through the lives of the residents of Skid Row in the cult horror-comedy-rock musical, with music by Alan Menken and book and lyrics by Howard Ashman.

FESTIVAL OF DEVISED WORK October 6th - 8th A celebration of original work created by our A’Level and GCSE students. Although the stimulus used is the same, each group has created something very different and always thought provoking. Timings to be confirmed, please see our social media and posters for updates.

COURAGE ENERGY LAUGHTER PETER PAN Summer term An anarchic take on JM Barrie’s iconic story, expect a rollicking soundtrack and some degree of flying as we join Peter, Wendy et al as they take on the vengeful Captain Hook.

POP-UPS & DROP-INS DATES AND TIMES ON SOCIAL MEDIA Throughout the year, look for our pop-up performances and exhibitions and drop-in workshop opportunities- some during term time and others outside of term. Covering a wide range of aspects of the arts, from taster sessions to cross-disciplinary collaborations, there is sure to be something to interest you!

PASSION CHAOS TOLERANCE AND THEN THERE WERE NONE Easter term An adaption of Agatha Christie’s classic tale. Ten strangers are invited to Soldier Island, an isolated rock near the Devon coast in southern England. Cut off from the mainland, with their generous host mysteriously absent, they are each accused of a terrible crime. As members of the party start to die one by one, the survivors realize that one of them is a killer and start to turn on each other.

COURAGE ENERGY LAUGHTER DANCE SHOW October 12th, 7.30 p.m. An opportunity to watch some of Canford’s finest dancers exploring the diversity of many dance forms. They will be performing a variety of dance styles, including Jazz, Lyrical, Showbiz and Contemporary ranging from shows such as ‘Burlesque’, ‘Hairspray’ and ‘Hamilton’.

INTO THE WOODS December 8th – 11th 7.00 pm Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s musical takes the stories of the Brothers Grimm and gives them a dark and humorous twist.The popular tales are interwoven with that of the Baker and his wife and their quest to have a child. However this re-telling goes beyond ‘happily ever after’ as the familiar characters find themselves in unfamiliar circumstances and hopes and dreams are questioned and revisited.

HOUSE DRAMA Easter term

The Canford Pantomime returns with disgruntled characters who failed to make the cut from the previous week’s show!

The annual House Drama Festival provides many students the opportunity to perform on The Layard Stage and showcase the depth of talent here at Canford. With a theme of Heroes and Villains, expect a wide range of short performances from each and every house.

FRIDAY FOYER Dates on school calendar and social media 6.45-7.20 p.m. Throughout the year, there will be pop up performance opportunities in the foyer on a Friday night. A space to experiment, share or to simply watch, Friday Foyer evenings are a chance for any student to “have a go” in a safe, supportive and relaxed atmosphere – alongside refreshments!

ROSE BLANCHE Easter term The Canford Drama Scholars stage an adaptation of Roberto Innocenti’s picture book ‘Rose Blanche’. Set in World War 2, a young German girl watches as the streets of her town fill with soldiers and tanks. Then, one day, she follows a truck into the woods and discovers a terrible secret.
