Mr Mike Nkuna of the Masingita Group of Companies recently splashed more than R300 000 to spoil the community of Nkuzana in the Makhado Municipality. He organised food and drinks for the community. Nkuna also gave food parcels to 100 vulnerable children in the area at a cost of R250 each. He had also paid for musicians such as the internationally recognised group Khanghela and Sunnyboy Mhlengwe to entertain them. This is not the first time he had ploughed back into his community. Last year, he gave food parcels to 50 children. The event has excited the
community since Nkuna is not a resident of the area as he is staying at Shitlhelani Village in Malamulele. The event was attended by the political leadership of three municipalities,Thulamela, Greater Giyani and Makhado. Addressing the crowd, Nkuna said his parents were warmly welcomed by the community when they started a shop and settled in the village in 1972. “Since it was our first family business, I can say my business life started at Nkuzana and we must learn to give credit where credit is due,” he said. Nkuna said because of the scourge of Aids, some families were faced with the harsh reality
of poverty, to the extent that some could not afford a loaf of bread. “Those of us who have made it must make destitute youths enjoy the fruits of our labours as a way of inspiring them to succeed,” said Nkuna. He said he was given a piece of land by the traditional leadership and would build a mall in the community this year as a way of providing jobs to the community. “We must change focus; rather than giving the community fish, we will be teaching them how to fish,” he said. “If my parents were turned away from Nkuzana, I would probably not be a successful man,” he said.
Motivational speaker Mr Mpfunzeni Vele urged parents to look after their children if they would like to see development in their area. Vele said children, if not well looked after, would be a lost generation and that the country would not have solid leadership. He was speaking during a function to say goodbye to children who will be leaving the crèche for school in 2013. Here, happy children at Muledane Community Crèche and their guardians pose for a photo during a Businessman Mike Masingita Nkuna, handing over groceries to disadvantaged people at his home village of Nkuzana as a goodwill gesture. ceremony to bid them farewell. Battle of the stars CALL FOR PUBLIC REVIEW For Provincial Nature Reserves PROTECTED AREA MANAGEMENT PLAN/S The Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment & Tourism (LEDET) is the designated Management Authority for all Provincial Nature Reserves and is responsible for the compilation of a Protected Area Management Plan (PAMP) for each reserve in accordance with the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, No. 57 of 2003. Each PAMP is comprised of one Five-year Strategic Management Plan (SMP) and five consecutive Annual Plans of Operation (APO’s). The SMP provides an overarching mangement framework and zonation plan for the protected area and informs the subsequent management activities on the reserve through five consecutive APO’s. It is a requirement of the Act that the Designated Management Authority (LEDET) engage with interested and affected parties in the compilation of these Plans. X NCC Environmental Services (NCC) is the service provider appointed to compile these plans. Significant consultation has already taken place in the development of the Draft Strategic Management Plans, including consultation with Reserve Managers, LEDET & LTA officials, the respective Reserve Planning Teams (which include key local stakeholders), and broader stakeholders at stakeholder engagement workshops (26 November - 05 December 2012). x Stakeholders are hereby invited to contribute to the further development of the SMPs by providing comment on the SMPs within the provided timeframe: 07 January - 08 February 2013. x A downloadable SMP and Comment Form per nature reserve (PDF version) are now available for your review and comment - http://www.ncc-group.co.za/blog.
