“Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s Party!’” ~Robin Williams Tuesday, March 20, is the vernal equinox, the beginning of spring. The dark months are now over, and we are moving into the warmth of the growing sunlight. Just like nature, our own spirits are waking up right about now. Spring’s warm fresh energy fills our souls with inspiration; winter’s cool rest is finally over. Our minds are whirling with thoughts of what to do to make our nests ready for the season of open windows and outdoor parties. It seems to go so fast! Now that I am a little older, a tiny bit wiser; I want to slow it down and embrace this time of new beginnings. But how? “Lose an hour in the morning, and you will be all day hunting for it.” ~Richard Whately Spring is the dawn of a new day. We can embrace this new beginning by setting our alarms early and waking up with the sun. Watching the sun rise is one of the most wonderful things you can do for yourself that doesn’t cost money. Just step out your door and look east. If you must bring your phone for safety, put it on silent and keep it in your pocket. Don’t let that silly little screen steal the majesty of the sun. This is your time; the time robbers can wait a few minutes. “ In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks. “ ~John Muir Take a walk on the wild side! As you walk outside in the fresh air, collect signs of the season—little buds, small flowers, a tiny shiny pebble that is nestled in the new growth. Create a spring alter in your home where you can place your newly found trinkets, so you can enjoy them and be reminded of spring’s bright, beautiful energy. My home has several alters filled with rocks, shells, pieces of driftwood that I picked up along the way through life. A big pinkish rock my step-daughter Beth presented to me when she was 6, a funky piece of coral my Dad found as he was fishing in New Smyrna, a fantastic piece of driftwood that looks like a dragon that I painstakingly dug from the mud in Lake George. My home is filled with these treasures that mean

10

| Yo u r H o m e t o w n e | I s s u e C X I I I

much more to me than anything I could buy. Be respectful as you collect your treasures of natures, never take anything from a National or State Park. Be sure to say a simple thank you to Mother Earth for sharing her bounty. “Journaling is like whispering to one’s self and listening at the same time... “ ~ writing from Bram Stoker’s Dracula (Mina Murray) Start a journal about the new beginnings in your life. The spring equinox is a powerful time to look at the at your life and examine what intentions you want to plant and the ones you achieve (this spring). Writing them down will help you achieve your goals and remember your successes. I started a journal during the holidays, and while I have not written in it every day, not even every week; what I have written brings me a lot of joy. Simple notes, mostly about Ken and myself; our happy moments, our 5 different plans for a 2nd bathroom (yikes). Recording happy moments and plans for the future are important, our memories may fade but our journaling will last our lifetime and beyond.   Balance is the key to everything. What we do, think, say, eat, feel, they all require awareness, and through awareness we can grow. ~ Koi Fresco The Vernal Equinox is the perfect time to actively put your life in balance. What makes you happy, keep. What makes you sad, either let it go or give it a time slot so doesn’t disrupt your entire day. The sun just crossed the celestial equator and entered our northern hemisphere, lift your head to the sky and say thank you! ~Peace,

What Should You Do With an Inheritance? If you were to receive a sizable inheritance, what should you do with it? This money could help you achieve some of your important financial goals – so you’ll want to think carefully about your choices. Of course, everyone’s needs are different, so there’s no one “right” way to handle a large lump sum. But here are a few suggestions that may be useful: Pay off some debts. Depending on the size of your inheritance, you may want to consider paying off some, if not all, of your debts, such as car loans, personal loans and student loans. You might even consider paying off your mortgage, but you may not want to, as you might be able to get a better return on your money by investing it. Also, if all your money is tied up in a house, you’ll typically have less liquidity than you would get from your investments. Contribute more to your retirement accounts. You may now be able to afford to contribute more to your 401(k) or other employersponsored retirement plan, as well as to your IRA. These accounts offer tax benefits plus an array of investment choices, so they are excellent ways to build resources for retirement. Save for college. If you have children, or grandchildren, whom you would like to someday send to college, you might want to put some of your inheritance into a college savings vehicle, such as a 529 plan, which provides tax benefits and gives you great flexibility in distributing the money. Build an emergency fund. If you haven’t already built an emergency fund containing six to 12 months’ worth of living expenses, you may be able to do so now, using part of your inheritance. Keep the money in a liquid, low-risk account, so that it’s readily available to pay for unexpected costs. Without such a fund, you might be forced to tap into your long-term investments. Above all else, you may want to get some help. If you don’t already have one, a financial professional can recommend ways of using the money to help you meet your goals. For one thing, you could further diversify your investments, which is important, because diversification can help reduce the effects of market volatility on your portfolio. (Keep in mind, though, that diversification can’t prevent all losses or guarantee profits.)

yourhometowne@gmail.com

And a financial professional can help you determine how much your plans could change due to the inheritance. To name just one possibility, you might be able to move up your retirement date. If so, you’d need to adjust many aspects of your financial strategy, such as when to take Social Security, how much to withdraw each year from your retirement accounts, and so on. You’ll also need to consult with your tax advisor, because some inherited assets, such as an IRA, could have tax implications. Your loved ones worked hard, and probably invested for many years, to leave a legacy for you. So, to honor their memory, do whatever you can to handle your inheritance wisely. Ask the Coach: Helene Verdile, Success, Life Transition & Spiritual Coach Q: Why do I feel so overwhelmed when I am surrounded by a lot of people? A: You might be an Empath. I was recently talking to my friend Sue and she explained to that she was recently at a fun-filled, high energy event that she had been looking forward to for months. She had chosen the perfect dress and she had a great date. She looked forward to seeing many long time friends that evening. To her dismay, when she arrived, she soon felt overwhelmed and out -of-place. She felt like her body was buzzing and she was having a hard time paying attention to the person right in front of her. She could hear and feel all the other conversations that were taking place all around her. She went home halfway through the event feeling disappointed. At home, she went right to her bedroom feeling anxious and had a hard time falling asleep. This is the story of the Empath, a complex and amazing person, who lives and feels at extremes. She is strong and capable, but also buzzing with energy or crashing from the lack of it. Empaths benefit from learning a completely different way to show up in this world so that they can protect their highly sensitive selves from the chaos they feel from others’ energy. They are the 20% of the world that are emotional sponges, walking around exposed and raw. We need to make a conscious effort to put an end to the intensity. It is possible to live a much more intentional and joyous life. To protect energy, start by identifying the sources that

drain your battery and those that recharge it. When we gain clarity around our emotional strengths and weaknesses, we are able to steer our lives in a more purposeful, value-driven direction and create longlasting emotional stability. The more we act and react from that solid foundation the less we feel pummeled by the emotions and intensity of others. There are many gifts of being an empath, many powerful exercises and techniques to learn, all of which lead us to a life that is full of joy and peace. Calling All Empaths 4-week group coaching program online or inperson at The Center For Clarity, Compassion and Contentment in Spring, date to be announced, price per person $150. What to Look for When Looking For a Home from Christopher Haddon, Licensed Associate Real Estate Broker Howard Hanna Real Estate Services

A home is one of the largest purchases most people will ever make, and a commitment of that magnitude can feel overwhelming. What if you decide after the transaction has closed that the house you picked isn’t right for you after all, and you’ve made a horrible mistake? Not to worry! Even though all homebuyers have different needs and wants, we can help anyone identify what to look for when buying a home. The best way to ensure that you’ll still love the current home of your dreams months or even years from now is to have a solid plan in place when you begin your home search. Specifically, you need to take some time to think about how long you plan to own the home, and what kind of life you see yourself living while you are there. It sounds simple, but you’d be surprised how many buyers start the process without having considered these questions. By choosing a home whose attributes are well-aligned with your plans and goals, you can ensure that it will remain the perfect place for you to live well into the future. We will be delving into this issue more deeply in future blog entries, but here are a few examples of things to think about when determining what kind of home will be best for you: • How long do you plan to live there? This is the most important question, because its answer will affect the answers to all of the other ones. • How many people will be living there with you? If the you-of-the future is in a relationship, you will need a home with enough room for that significant other. Children may also be a consideration, or older relatives who might move in with you during their later years. • How far away are the places you will be going? Nobody likes a long commute to work. Easy access to other places you visit regularly, like shops or the homes of family members, will also greatly simplify your life.

yourhometowne@gmail.com

• How well does the home fit your preferred lifestyle? If you have a bad knee, you probably don’t want to spend the next twenty years unnecessarily climbing extra flights of stairs, and if you hate yard work, you might prefer a condominium unit or a maintenance-free community. Once you know how you feel about these kinds of basic questions, you can focus your home search and identify homes that you’ll love even more ten or twenty years from now than you do today. Since the closing of 2 of our local retaurants this winter we all have been seeking out new places to go. We travelled up to Ballston Spa, which is only 15 minutes from Lakehill and 50 and the home of Henry’s Tavern, an eclectic, comfortable, fun place that you should absolutely give a try. As muchas I wanted to keep it as my secret hideout I decided it is only fair to share with you what a great place it is, good food, friendly service and a comfrotable atmosphere. Dave, the owner gave me a little background information to share with you so you will know what to expect if you head their way: “Henrys was opened in March 2015 by owner Matt Hickey and manager Dave Foster. Their downtown Ballston Spa location at 19 Front St is known for the variety of delicious and reasonably priced comfort foods. Appetizers such as Jumbo Chicken Wings, Irish Nachos and Guiness Poutine.

Sandwiches and classic burgers and house favorites Fish and Chips, Shepards Pie and Three Cheese Macaroni and Cheese. Henrys has 14 draft lines featuring both local and national craft beers. They also have a complete selection of Red and White wines, bottled beers and liquors. When the weather permits we have outside seating. We are just across the street from Wiswall Park, so you can take in all the sights and sounds of our Village while dining or just having cocktails. Henrys 2nd location, Henrys on the Green is going into their 4th season preparing all food and beverages at the Ballston Spa CC. The restaurant is open year round for lunch and dinner. Our banquet facility is also available year round for parties and events. 19 Front St • Ballston Spa, New York (518) 309-3584

Upstate Connection

Governor Cuomo’s proposal to eliminate unrestricted state aid known as AIM (Aid and Incentives to Municipalities) for most towns and villages will hurt the local taxpayer, threaten core services, and leave upstate in even worse fiscal distress than it is now. Under the governor’s proposal, in Schenectady County alone, our towns and the village will collectively lose well over $500,000 annually in state aid – Glenville will lose $176,000 – yet the city of Schenectady gets to keep all of its over $11 million in that same aid. As a result, the governor has essentially shifted the burden to town and village property taxpayers. By taking $59 million away from local governments, the governor is ensuring property tax increases and/or cuts to core services that are provided by our highway crews, police officers, and other hard working municipal workers. Every dollar he cuts is another dollar that has to come from somewhere else and governments get their revenue from one source: taxes. How does the governor’s cuts impact your community? Well, in Glenville for example, the money he is proposing to take away would pay for 2 police officers or 3 highway workers; it would pave 2.5 miles of roads or cause a 2% tax increase on residents to replace the revenue. Towns and villages have worked hard to cut cost while delivering the most basic services to our residents. We are the closest government to the people, the most efficient and the most responsive. In fact, the governor admits that towns have done a good job with fiscal management when he noted that growth in the reserve funds is the reason for this aid elimination. He unfortunately ignores the fact that these reserved funds should not be used for operations and are often the basis for higher bond ratings, which lead to lower borrowing costs. Simply put, using your fund balance to fund operations is like using your 401K savings to pay credit card bills. That practice will bankrupt you in the end. In my town, Glenville, we are in strong fiscal shape; over the past nine years we have reduced the allocation of fund balance by over $1 million a year, down from allocating $1.4 million annually to just about $340,000 in the 2019 budget – a reduction of 75%. The town has also cut our debt over that same period from $23.1 million to $13 million – or about $10 million dollars. This has saved us a tremendous amount of finance charges. In fact, since 2009, we have reduced our finance costs by 67% resulting in $500,000 per year in savings. Our finance payments have dropped from over $800,000 in 2009 to just about $270,000 in 2018. Thanks to our prudent financial management, we have built up our reserve accounts to protect the residents from the sudden costs of emergencies and/or the ongoing need to invest in our town’s infrastructure and capital assets. None of this was achieved because of the governor, but with his action he can wipe that progress out in one fell swoop. yourhometowne@gmail.com

The governor also suggest that counties are collecting more in sales tax revenue and that increase should offset the need for the towns and villages, but as he should know, towns and villages don’t have a right to that revenue; only the cities and counties do by state law and they are keeping their aid. Worse, in Schenectady County, the county does not fairly share its sales tax revenue with the town. For example, for every new sales tax dollar collected by the county, Glenville cents less than one penny of that dollar. Call your legislator and tell them to protect upstate communities and restore aid to towns and villages. If it’s needed in our cities, then it’s still needed in our towns and villages too. Spring ahead! Happy spring everyone! I know, I know it seems like we are the frozen chosen but each day we draw closer to spring. Imagine a time or place when the earth stands still. Occurring only twice each year. One being the Vernal Equinox or Spring Equinox this month and the second being the Autumn Equinox in September. A time where the entire planet has equal day and equal night. As fleeting as this moment is; imagine a mere glimpse of time shared by everyone. An entire planet suspended for a split second. A delicate transition that cannot be felt nor heard. And yet, the earth feels it, the ground feels it, the trees and animals can surely feel it. I wonder if we can feel it too. A transition deep down inside of us. Giving us a nudge to “Spring ahead!” More sunlight, earlier sun rises AND later sunsets?! Wow, all of that happening and I barely felt anything. Don’t get caught up in being “suspended.” Let those moments move by. Move forward! Look forward! Turn your clock forward! Don’t look back, you’re not going that way. Be like the earth and SPRING AHEAD! Let this be your transition too. Let go of the past, forgive more, open your heart and most of all LOVE yourself and others. Maybe, just maybe if you sit quietly on March 20th at precisely 5:58 pm and listen; clear your mind and simply listen, you might just feel what the earth feels. A moment to spring ahead without fear and with confidence. Bringing with it new beginning and new adventures. As always I wish you peace, joy and many sunlit sunrises!

Imagine the Possibilities

Today’s The Day… Look Better, Feel Better and Live a Better Life. Imagine the possibilities that would happen in your life if you stepped out in faith. Imagine the possibilities if you simply took the first step that led to an open door of opportunity (I have found that open door with Neora). Imagine the possibilities if you stepped out of your comfort zone. You have no idea what is waiting for you on the other side. Is it a new job, better health, a new hobby or something you are passionate about? “On the other side of everything you Don’t want to do, is Everything you Ever Wanted.” – Bo Short Best-selling Author, and President of Neora. What is keeping you stuck in your rut? Is it being in your comfort zone? Are you satisfied in living in mediocrity? Have you thought about what your life would look like if you took just one step toward the open door of opportunity? What is something you were passionate about as a child? What as a child did you “wish you would be when you grew up”? Did you want to be a Doctor or Nurse helping others? A Lawyer fighting for justice? A Farmer surrounded by wide open fields and growing vegetables or raising horses? Did you dream of the spotlight and being a Performer on the stage? If the dream was inside of you, You have the potential to make that dream a reality. It is often said, “If you Dream it, you can Achieve it” but sometimes knowing how to take the first step is the true question. Hearing all of the positive verbiage that comes from motivational speakers is wonderful and can be inspiring but if you do not know how to take that first step, how will you ever get there? I am passionate about helping you to achieve your goals and lead you toward the first step out of your comfort zone to see what is on the other side! When you are in your comfort zone and you are looking at your Big Dream, fear holds you back as the underlying cause of fear is often excitement about the unknown, not because of the unknown. These are some of the steps that I have learned with Neora which will help you to Open the Door of Opportunity to the life You envision: 1. Make a Vision Board and Dream Big! 2. Make your Vision Statement, Read it Daily and Share it with others. 3. Surround Yourself with those who Believe in You. Over the next several months I will be focusing on different products and how they will have a positive impact on your life. I look forward to being on this journey with you, watching you grow, and Yes, Achieving Your Goals and Reaching the Big Dreams that you have Always had within You. Contact me Today to Register for my Limited Seating Session of Golden Nugget Night at Vegas Run Ranch where you will learn how to use the powerful tools within you and the Real steps that will lead to Real change toward the life you always envisioned for yourself. Test Your Soil

Hopefully by the end of March, we’ll be out there raking our lawns and getting some fresh air after a long winter cooped up inside. Raking the lawn will fluff up the blades of grass helping it dry out and warm up so it will start greening up sooner. Once the raking is finished, it is a great time to do a pH test or two on the soil of you lawn and gardens. The benefits of properly adjusting the pH of the soil and the benefits of limestone itself are far reaching. There’s a tendency for soil to gradually become acidic over time. Decomposing organic matter (grass clippings in the case

of your lawn), fertilizer and acid rain all contribute to acidification of the soil. In heavier soils like clay, this happens very slowly. In looser soils like sand, acidification occurs more rapidly. The more fertilizer and organic matter you apply to your lawn or garden, the more often you should check the pH. Different plants prefer different pH levels. Most vegetables grow best in slightly acidic soil (pH 6.5 to 6.8) while your lawn will be healthier if the soil is neutral (pH 7). Every once in a while I run into someone who’s heard that lime is good for the lawn and they’ll ask, “I’ve got an average size lawn and I’ve never limed it. How much lime should I apply?” To the uninformed, this seems like a reasonable question. To me, it’s like asking your mechanic, ”I have a mid-sized sedan. How much oil do I need to add?” There’s no way your mechanic could answer unless you allowed him/her to look at the dipstick. The inexpensive soil pH test kit is your “dipstick” to determine how much lime you need to apply for healthy plant growth. If I’m asked, “I

have 10,000 sq. ft. of lawn and the pH is 6.0. How much lime should I apply?” I can then say that you need 10-40 lb. bags of pelletized lime to bring your soil’s pH up to the pH of 7.0 that it should have. Of course, you may not need to ask since the information is provided in the pH test kit. Unlike fertilizer applications, you won’t need to apply lime every year. Usually every 3 to 5 years, maybe even longer depending on the type of soil you have. Another benefit of checking and properly adjusting the pH of the soil in your lawn is the control of moss. I’m not telling you that lime applications will kill moss if it’s already established itself in your lawn but if you’d paid attention to the soil’s pH all along you probably wouldn’t have a moss problem to begin with. Moss won’t take hold and thrive unless the soil is acidic. Once it gets established, moss causes the soil in the area it’s growing to become acidic even faster; creating an environment that allows it to spread quickly. The net effect is that the moss kills off the grass by making the soil too acidic and then fills in the bare area that’s left. The whole situation can be avoided by checking and adjusting the soil’s pH regularly. Remember, too much lime will

make the soil too alkaline for the grass to thrive so more isn’t better. The bottom line is this: you can spend a few bucks for a pH test kit and you’ll end up using less lawn food and have a healthier, more disease and drought resistant lawn while spending less. pH test kits are one of the best bargains going. How to Manage Your Basis “Step Up”

If you are planning to leave someone an inheritance, or someone has left you an inheritance, it is important for you to understand how to manage your basis “step up.” A “step up” in basis is the adjustment of the value of an appreciated asset - for tax purposes - upon inheritance. It’s all about the Capital Gains Tax and transferring property in a way that affords the best outcome, --meaning the highest basis and the lowest tax due on sale. IRS Taxe: An Executor may have to file estate tax returns based upon the size, or cumulative date of death value of the assets of the estate. It is unusual these days for me to have an estate that needs to file an estate tax return as the value of the estate would have to exceed $5.25 million. Nevertheless, estates with fewer than $5.25 million in assets may qualify for basis step-up, so its important to understand the potential tax consequences and plan or act accordingly. Step Up Basis Explained: Simply put, when an asset is passed on to a beneficiary, the value of that asset at the time it is inherited is generally higher than it was when the original owner acquired the asset. To the extent the asset is properly included in the decedent’s “taxable estate”, the asset will receive a “step-up” in basis. Whether or not the estate exceeds the taxable thresh-hold is irrelevant to the availability of basis step up. How an Asset is Transferred on Death Matters: If an asset passes to a beneficiary as part of a probate proceeding, the asset will get a full

step-up as the asset is fully included in the taxable estate. This means that the basis will adjust from the original purchase price to the date of death value. If an asset is given during life to a person outright with no strings attached, there is no step up as the asset is fully excluded from the taxable estate. The net result may be a significant capital gains tax which could have been avoided. What are some other options? “Pay on death” or “Transfer on Death” -- because decedent had total control of the asset during life, the asset is properly included in the taxable estate and entitled to a step up. Alternatively, although Joint Ownership or Joint Tenants with Rights of Survivorship effectively avoid probate, for tax purposes the transfer is considered partially gifted during life and partially on death. The recipient gets a partial step up on death. Keeping good records and obtaining paperwork from the courts, trustees, and other parties involved will help ensure you are using the step-up basis correctly and minimizing the risk of IRS audits. What is the Best way to Transfer Assets? It depends on the totality of concerns and circumstances as well as the objectives to be met. If you have questions about an inheritance you hope to leave or expect to receive - contact us to learn about your options. KATHLEEN M. what’s Recipes with wiggle room

Mango Curry Shrimp • 2 pounds shrimp, shelled and deveined • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil • 1 medium sweet onion, sliced • 6 cloves garlic, smashed and roughly chopped • 1 heaping tablespoon grated ginger • 1 teaspoon kosher salt • 2 tablespoons curry powder • 2 (8-ounce) jars mango chutney (I prefer the Stonewall Kitchen brand) • 4-6 ounces water (Hint: use the chutney jar!) • mango, cubed for garnish • 2 scallion, thinly sliced on the bias for garnish • steamed jasmine rice for serving (1 cup dry rice makes enough for 4-6 servings cooked rice) • lime wedges for serving 1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, then place shrimp on baking sheet. 2. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onions, garlic, ginger, salt, and curry powder. Cook, stirring regularly, for about 5-7 minutes, or until onions soften and brown a bit. 3. Roast shrimp in oven for 5 minutes. 4. While shrimp cooks, add the two jars of chutney to the skillet plus 1/2 – 3/4 chutney jar of water (4-6 ounces). Stir to combine and bring sauce to a boil. 6. Remove shrimp from the oven, then add to the skillet sauce. Stir to combine, making sure to coat each shrimp with a bit of sauce. Bring back to a quick boil or until sauce reaches desired consistency. 7. Serve over steamed jasmine rice and garnish with fresh mango cubes, sliced scallions, and a lime wedge.

Sweet Potato Egg Boat Each potato is 1 serving

• 1 small sweet potato, roasted and still hot from oven • 1 teaspoon clarified butter • salt and pepper, to taste • 1 egg • 2 pieces bacon, cooked and crumbled • 1/3-1/2 ripe avocado, sliced • parsley and/or green onion, chopped, to garnish • freshly ground pepper, to garnish 1. Preheat oven to 400°F. 2. Place potato on rimmed baking sheet. When it’s cool enough to touch (even if using a kitchen towel), carefully slit the top of the sweet potato (do not cut all the way through). Squeeze the ends to open potato up. Add ghee and mash, using a fork. Salt and pepper to taste; about a pinch of each will do. Create a well in the center of the potato by removing one scoop of the potato. Add the egg. 3. Bake for 10-15 minutes, until whites are set and egg yolk is done to your liking. 4. Remove from oven and garnish with bacon crumbles, avocado slices, chopped herbs, and freshly ground pepper.

Why You Should Listen to a Podcast While You Work Out

Spinal Stenosis? Try Chiropractic! If you have spinal stenosis, you have probably been told that surgery or pain meds are your only options. But maybe you don’t want to be on pain meds for the rest of your life; (I don’t blame you!) after all, pain meds will only temporarily relieve pain and do nothing to fix the actual problem. And maybe you don’t want surgery; after all, according to researchers at the University of Cincinnati College of medicine, 74% of back surgeries end in failure! Has anyone told you that chiropractic care can help to relieve pain naturally? So what is spinal stenosis? Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the space inside the spinal column; it can happen in the neck or the low back. It is most often caused by every day wear and tear in the spine, or as the medical community calls it: osteoarthritis. Of course, it can be caused by other things like a tumor, or an injury to the spine, but this is usually determined by X-ray or MRI. Spinal stenosis can affect anyone, but most commonly affects people over 50. The most common symptoms people experience are: low back or neck pain, weakness in an extremity, cramping when standing for too long, pain in one or both legs when standing but eases when you sit or bend forward at the waist, and difficulty walking especially up hills or up stairs. So, can you go to a chiropractor if you have spinal stenosis? Yes! Many times spinal stenosis can be aggravated by a misalignment in the spine. Chiropractors correct these misalignments which, in turn, relieve stress on the nerves and relieves pain. Many doctors will tell you to stop doing activities that will make the pain worse, but chiropractors actually encourage you to keep moving and do the things you want to do. Chiropractic care is not only safe, but effective in treating pain from spinal stenosis. In my office, I use a technique called Cox flexion-distraction which has been shown, in many studies, to provide numerous benefits to people with spinal stenosis. As with most treatments, chiropractic care does take time and repetition but most people find significant benefits, including pain relief—pain relief that lasts! If you are looking for alternatives to pain meds or surgery, why not try something more conservative first? Give us a call to schedule an appt. or come join us on April 10 for a FREE DINNER at The Ripe Tomato in Malta to meet the doctor! Call the office to reserve your spot at dinner. Space is limited. People listen to podcasts while doing a number of mundane activities—driving, cleaning the house, walking the dog, or while at their desk, but have you ever listened to one while you work out? Maybe it’s time to take a break from your gym playlist and try something new! I know what you’re thinking. Podcasts are boring. You need something to pump you up while you work out. Or, you’ve never tried. But, listening to a podcast during your gym session could really boost productivity. Here are 4 reasons you should give it a try: It’s something to look forward to. A lot of podcasts are created like television shows. They are a series of episodes that lead up to a season finale. Just like you get excited to see the new episode of Grey’s Anatomy, you will be equally as excited to hear the new episode of Serial. It’s a great way to get yourself out of bed and into the gym. You can’t listen to the next episode until you start your workout. It’s a great motivational tool! It prolongs your workout. Just like you’re excited to start the next episode, you won’t want to finish your workout until the episode ends. Podcast can have a run time of anything from 30 minutes to 2 and 1/2 hours. Just like you don’t end the new Grey’s Anatomy episode halfway through, you won’t want to end the podcast episode halfway. It helps you commit to a full workout. It’s a distraction. And I don’t mean a distraction from your workout. If you’re someone who gets antsy and thinks about how tired you are throughout the entire workout, a podcast can help! Instead of focusing on how tired you are while running on the treadmill, you will be distracted by the details of your podcast. Whether that’s listening to a true crime story, a wellness podcast, or a comedian interview, you’ll be thinking about the content as opposed to your fatigue. It helps you find inspiration. There are thousands of podcasts out there. There will be one that motivates you. Maybe you need something a little more upbeat so you choose a comedy podcast that keeps your adrenaline high, or maybe you need a gripping, episodic tale to get through, or maybe you need to listen to the benefits of health and fitness while reaping those benefits—either way, there is something that will inspire you to have an effective workout!
