The F word Insta-GLAM! Urban dictionary has several definitions of the word pin-up. While initially reserved for women, the term pin-up can just as easily be applied to men as well. Whatever the definition though, there are certain elements that are common when the term pin-up is used. In this regard, we have synthesized and combined those top definitions to come up with our own definition. Mass produced photos or idealized representations of sexually attractive, smiling, and glamorous women (and men), which are intended for informal display with a wide appeal to pop culture. In today’s world what does that make you think of? Instagram! Visit any your person’s instagram page and you can apply that definition for majority of what you find on IG. Our society’s obsession with looking good and showing the rest of the world and trying to outdo one another in showing how glamorous of a life we all live is unparalleled. In the early days, pin-up was associated with and used to inspire the US troops as they went to battle in the second World War. Soldiers would pin these glamorous pictures on their bunk beds as well as paint pictures of these scantily-clad women on the plane‘s fuselage as a way to inspire them on to victory. Hence, the term “pin-up” because they literally pinned these pictures up on their walls. We won’t take offense if you engage in the same behavior by tearing out the pages of these good-looking men and women and hang them up on your walls. But first you have to get yourself a printed copy to make it all worthwhile. Digital pin-ups just don‘t cut it! We’ve only scratched the surface of the pin-up world. One of the most popular pin-up characterizations was created by Alberto Vargas whose “Vargas Girls” was featured on the pages of Playboy magazine. Alberto Vargas as a noted Peruvian painter of pin-up girls and is often considered one of the most famous of the pin-up artists.

Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge may not be household names in this day and age but back in the 50s, they were the mainstays in Archie Andrews’ life. Betty is the sweet and wholesome next-door blonde girlfriend while Veronica is the rich, spoiled, and often-selfish brunette girlfriend. If you don‘t know who we’re talking about, just google Betty and Veronica and you’ll have a better idea. Typical stereotypes which Jenn Barlos and her team captured for an editorial submission in this issue. Brenda Cook and Amy Sherman sound like they could be household names as well and they very well could be after you see their collaboration in a spread featuring Amy as a traditional vintage pin-up model captured by Brenda’s photography skills. And yes we did say that the definition can be applied to men as well right. After all, we need something to make the women swoon as well. Enter Arthur Black, skateboarder, surfer, and all-around good-looking guy. Have we convinced you yet that our definition of pin-up encompasses the whole gamut? Of course no issue would be complete without designer clothing from world-renowned and recognized fashion designers as we feature these straight from the clothing racks of Rent The Runway. In this issue we feature some from Moschino, Theory, Marco Bologna, Jill Stuart, Narciso Rodriguez, BCBGMaxazria, Erin Featherston, Cynthia Vincent, Matthew Williamson, and Herve Leger. Rent The Runway is the place to check out designer clothing and accessories for special events. They are based in New York and have branch stores in Chicago, DC and Las Vegas.

Our sartorial urges and moderate weather changes are contending with one another. The forgotten, under-appreciated key to unlock your mid-season savvy inspiration is the turtleneck. Yep, the turtleneck. Bet you never thought I'd say that! Well that's what I say and there are plenty of blogging and street style photography saying the same. Easily worn on those sunny early fall days before the brisk crisp cold sets in. How to wear it well? Find a few favorite cuts to work into what you already have until the official closet rotation.

Keeping with traditional collegiate feel, the sleeveless and light mock turtleneck will pair with essentially any pant or midi skirt. As recommended before and still stand by is the long and short of it all...in this case a long sleeve with a short or the unsuspected and casual short overall. The personal go to is the cropped coquette variation that compliments high-waist and A-line miniskirts for the rather silhouette favoring finish.

Just to seal the deal and curb your layering desires for fall the spotlight lightweight additions to the 'coat' family is the silk robe (quilted or not) and the strong stole showstopper. The stole was certainly one to steal the runway and the robe was a surprisingly chic eye-catcher for street style enthusiasts. Another few to break out and make a new stance for themselves on the fashion world! Perfect to cinch in the waist and give a plush push to a drab wardrobe. These texture combinations are mere suggestions so as always, take them all to heart as inspiration to get the creative juices flowing because we want to see you take your own style to the street and dress to impress!
