Meet the Pros What is your favorite wedding tradition?

Keri Ann Reardon Make up by Keri Ann

Amy Brewington A&E Weddings & Events

My favorite wedding tradition is a relatively new trend, and one that was not around when I got married, but I love it. It's the first look. While the first look is a private moment between the bride and groom, a professional photographer and videographer can capture the sweetest moments on camera. I am not usually emotional, but high quality first look images can cause my eyes to get a little moist - especially if I had the opportunity to work with the bride!

My favorite wedding tradition is the classic "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue." Each time I see a bride don a piece of jewelry worn by her mother or grandmother, wipe tears of joy with a borrowed handkerchief or lovingly hang a charm of blue from her bouquet or garter, I know that she will be snugly wrapped in the love of family and friends as she begins her journey down the aisle to her happily ever after.

My favorite wedding tradition is when the Father of the Bride gives his daughter away to the groom. This is an often overlooked, but very important part of a wedding day. For a father, placing his daughters hand into the hand of her future husband is an outward symbol of his blessing over their new life together.

One of my favorite wedding traditions is the bride and groom not seeing each other on the wedding day. This adds excitement to the big day. As the wedding photographer, I get to capture the transformation of the bride, and then I get to photograph the groom before they see each other. It is an honor to be able to capture these special moments on camera and witness the day unfold!

Micaleh + Brandon Filled with many personal details, Micaleh and Brandon's wedding was a Texas bride's dream. We love everything from Micaleh's grand entrance on horseback to Brandon's fun football shots, and the florals and decor details that will make you catch your breathe. Located just north of The Woodlands, Madera Estates provided the perfect elegantly rustic backdrop for the affair. The bride and groom exchanged vows in front of a gorgeous rock fireplace and they celebrated with their guests in the chandelier appointed ballroom.

Kandace + Cody Photography by Joey Brown Photography

The Proposal When Cody Spence of All Star Catering wanted to propose, he called on close family friend, Wade Bowen to help make it memoriable. He shared how he popped the question: "We love his music and when Kandace and I started dating she had never heard of him. The first song I ever played for her by Wade was Who I Am . It instantly became her favorite song, and after a couple years we talked about how Who I Am would be the song we danced to first at our wedding. The week before I was nervous because I was not 100 percent certain of how it was going to happen (or even if it was going to happen) because it all depended on what Wade said that

evening when we arrived at the concert. The day before I drove up to Fort Worth to ask for her dad's blessing in the middle of a blizzard and drove back all in one day, so I had almost no sleep. So, it was all up in the air until about 90 minutes before I proposed. There were around one thousand people at the concert, and I proposed to her on stage and after she said yes, we went down to the dance floor and danced to Who I Am. The people on the dance floor cleared out for us to dance in the center of the floor." You can see Kandace say yes and find other great proposal ideas at woodlandsbride.com/engagement/coolproposal-ideas/.

Q&A with Karinda Kinsler of Designs by Karinda Q: How did you fall in love with wedding photography? A: While attending Texas A&M and getting my degree in Animal Science, I fell in love with photography. What started out as something to pass time while at the barn in the summers, turned into more than I could have imagined when I was approached by the owner of a large livestock photography company to come work for him. Soon after my sister got married and begged me to photograph her wedding. Knowing that I was not a wedding photographer, I refused, but brought my camera along. Long story short, my sister had a not-so-amazing experience with her photographer and I am so incredibly thankful that I brought my camera with me. That day I fell in love with capturing those special moments and emotions, and committed myself to learning and providing my clients with an unforgettable wedding photography experience. Q: How would you describe your photography style? A: My style is classic with a modern twist. I capture all of the traditional wedding images in a way so that you will not only love your pictures now, but you will still love them when you are 70-years-old. I believe in capturing the candid moments and emotions of the day. I want people to be able to feel the emotion of the moment when looking at my pictures, when you look back at your wedding pictures 20 years from now, I want you to be able to have that same tingly feeling inside that you felt on your wedding day. I get to know each and every 30

Woodlands Bride / Spring 2015

one of my wedding couples before their wedding day, from their style to their personality and I photograph each wedding in a way that shows who they truly are. Q: What are 3 shots you think every bride and groom will want in their album? A: I think the most important wedding day pictures are the pictures of the bride and groom spending quality time with each other interacting so that you can see their true love and feel their emotions and excitement. These are the pictures that they will display on their walls and show their children one day. After I got married, I discovered very quickly that the images of me and my new husband are the ones that I look back at the most. Q: What are your tips for choosing a wedding photographer? A: I think the most important aspect when choosing a wedding photographer is that you

love their pictures. You want to make sure your pictures are going to be something that you will love for years to come and want to share with the world! Something that I think people all too often overlook is the fact that they will spend just as much, if not more time with their photographer on their wedding day than they will with their new hubby. It is super important that you choose a photographer that you are going to feel comfortable around on your wedding day, and ultimately someone that you feel will contribute to your wedding day in a positive way. Make sure you meet with your photographer before booking. Q: What is your favorite wedding trend? A: My favorite wedding trend is the first look. First looks are so amazing. My favorite part about a first look is getting to see and hear the groom’s reaction. They always say the sweetest things when they see their bride for the first time. When a groom sees his bride for the first time walking down the aisle chances are he will have a huge grin or even shed a tear or two, but he doesn’t actually get to say all of those thoughts that are going through his head. They also allow the bride and groom to spend quality and intimate time together on their wedding day free of any distractions. They can talk and share their excitement and typically this time allows both the bride and groom to get rid of any prewedding nerves. First looks also allow more time for pictures of the bride and groom together. Typically when I photograph a first look the couple has 3-4 times as many pictures of the two of them on their wedding day. Woodlands Bride / Spring 2015 31

TIPS

Planning a spectacular wedding is easy when

you hire the right people. Many times, who you choose will mean the difference between an experience that can only be described as total bliss or a stressful, logistical nightmare. So, how do you find the vendors you can rely on? Here are our tips for finding and evaluating the best wedding vendors.

Price: Of course, if that vendor doesn't have a package

at a price point you can afford, you have to move on. I never recommend trying to haggle, however, if you aren't too far apart on price, many times the experts will help create a package to match even the tightest budget. Don't be afraid to ask! A creative and talented vendor will rise to the challenge.

Promptness: This is a reflection of their organizational skills and customer service level. It is a rule for wedding vendors that they

32

Woodlands Bride / Spring 2015

should always add joy to the occasion and never stress. If the vendor is difficult to get in touch with before you book them, this may not change afterwards. That being said, prompt does not always mean within the hour. Give your vendors at least one business day to respond to your email or phone call.

Portfolio: You have to make a judgment call here; does the vendor have the quality you expect for your own wedding? Have they worked on a wedding before with a similar look or style? Do you feel like they can execute your vision?

Personality: At the end of the day, you just have to

follow your gut. Do you like this person? You will be spending a large portion of your wedding day with this vendor so you should ask yourself if you honestly can work with them on something as intimate as your big day. If they exude a positive, fun spirit, chances are you would!
