LESLIE CERVANTEZ

"There is no greater reward on this earth than to serve others. Words cannot describe what an honor it is to share my gift from God with amazing clients who are loving and kind people. Which is why I cherish the time I have with my clients. Our sessions are fun and intimate and we really get to learn about one another. In the end, it is so much easier photographing a friend and there are no barriers in front of the camera. We can laugh and be ourselves." If you are interested in setting a consultation, please take the time to chat with her about your big day. She'd love to hear from you. Woodlands Bride / Winter 2013

Happy Holidays PHOTO Kasey Lynn Photography

'Tis the season... for sparkle, shine and party time! The holiday season is a festive and glamorous time of year but let's be real, it can also be a stressful time! That is why we've dedicated this edition of Woodlands Bride (our second issue!) to Planning the Ultimate Celebration in Montgomery County. We rounded up our little black book of party professionals to give you event planning tips, party inspiration and pretty things to stare at - to guide you in the planning process. Did you know "engagement season" is upon us? That's right, December is considered the most popular month for getting engaged followed closely by February. There's Christmas, New Year's and Valentine's Day back-to-back and the perfect excuses to celebrate life and love. Put it all together and it truly is the most wonderful time of the year...for an engagement! If perhaps you are newly engaged (or secretly hoping this is your engagement season), we recommend you check out our "Pin Your Perfect Wedding" feature where you'll find some good advice for beginning the planning process on Pinterest. And we encourage you to visit our website, www.woodlandsbride.com, for even more daily inspiration! Lastly, I thought I'd share with you what I'm lovin' this season... black + white stripes. These sassy colors and pattern can effortlessly make your event classy and chic! What do you think? Ready to join the party? As you flip through this issue and see something you like or want to share in the magazine, simply use the hashtag #WBPartyIssue. Have a very merry planning season!

INSPIRATION

Fairytale Romance

Fairy tales are timeless stories that have touched the heart and sparked the imagination of every generation. Since 1854, Hodge Podge Lodge has been nestled among the century old Pecan and Oak trees in the heart of Montgomery. While so much of the world has changed around it, this quaint little home has remained a timeless classic that feels like home on your very first visit. Nicola Weems assembled her dream team to bring this stunning, fairytale-inspired shoot to life.

"The history of the house, having been built in 1854, as well as the quaint charm, seem to transport you back to another time. The garden area in the back, as well as the old world patio seem the stuff of fairytales, and that is how my idea for a modern, fairytale shoot was born. I wanted to incorporate subtle hints to the fairytale theme (apples, the candelabra, the horse) yet still bring a modern and fun feel (the lawn games, the couple lounging and having a drink, ect.) to the photos." -Lacey Peyton, Lacey Peyton Photography

FIRST THINGS FIRST

Are you sporting a bright + shiny rock and overwhelmed about where to begin planning your wedding? We chatted with Randi Lawrence Moore about what the first five things a bride should do after the big knee drop. FIRST The first thing a bride should do is hire a wedding planner. A good wedding planner that matches your personality, style and budget can assist you in ensuring your wedding planning experience is stress free.

Vendor Websites ♡ Everytime You Choose a Vendor, Pin their Website. It puts their contact info at your fingertips. f Tip: If you don't have a wedding planner, share this board with a close friend so that if something goes ary, they can contact a vendor without alarming you on your wedding day.

Honeymoon ♡ Outfits ♡ Items to Pack ♡ Things to Do

j

Follow Woodlands Bride on Pinterest for tons of inspiration.

SECOND Set a date! Setting a wedding date will help to guide your wedding planning duties and allow everyone involved to get as excited as you are about the big day! THIRD The third thing a bride should do is set a budget. Set a good, reasonable budget and understand how to use your budget. This is essential to ensure you can get all the bells and whistles. FOURTH The fourth thing a bride should do is set a preliminary guest list. A good guest list also helps to create a flawless budget. Work on your guest list with your future hubby as well as family. This helps everyone feel engaged in the planning process. FIFTH Create a vision board. The best thing about getting married is creating a vision that matches the personality for both you and your fiancé. My advice is to create a vision board with your fiancé and take that vision board to every vendor meeting. This will ensure your vendors stay close to your overall vision for the wedding.

ADVICE

PARTY PLANNING Q+ A with Event Solutions Q: What is the etiquette for

Q:

planning the rehearsal dinner? Who should plan and pay for it? -Charlotte from Magnolia

A: Rehearsal dinners can be as casual or formal as you want them, and you don't have to break the bank either! Traditionally, the rehearsal dinner is hosted by the groom's parents. It is important to work with them while planning the rehearsal dinner so they know what you want and like. Sometimes, the groom's parents like to do the rehearsal dinner as a surprise to the couple. In this case, your involvement may be very little to none, as they want to give you a party in your honor without you doing any of the work!

I'm on the fence about whether to have an engagement party or not. What advice would you give for making an engagement party fun and worthwhile? -Jenna D. from Conroe

A: An engagement party is all about

celebrating the fact that you said yes! Having an engagement party is not a required part of having a wedding, but they are a great way to have a less formal, fun event with all your friends and family. Usually engagement parties are hosted by a close family friend or a parent. Use your engagement party to get photos with your fiance for the wedding; you can also have fun indoor or outdoor

for all of lifes special events!

games for everyone. For instance, corn hole, horse shoes, and others can be a fun way to have your guests interact with each other. At one of our most recent engagement parties, the couple had a DIY photo booth, two outdoor games, and their favorite food and drinks. At the wedding they used some of the photos from their photo booth and they made each of the groomsmen their own corn hole game as a gift. It was a fun memory for all of their guests!

Q:

What are some tips for planning a bridal shower on a budget? -Megan P. from The Woodlands

A: Planning a bridal shower on a

budget is definitely doable! First, determine who you want to invite. The guest list will determine how large of a space you will need. If you are at 20 or less, you can most likely have this in someone's home. Having it at a home will help save a lot of money! Second, is someone hosting the party for you? Traditionally a bridal shower is hosted by a bridesmaid (or all your bridesmaids), an extended family member or a co-worker. If you have co-hosts, they can split the costs of the party which will help save money in the long run. Third, what will be offered during the party? Set a time which is not during a peak meal time. For instance, having a party at 7pm will most likely

tell your guests to expect to be fed a meal. But if you have your shower at 3pm, you can simply offer small appetizers or snack style foods. You can also offer a signature cocktail or a "mock"tail if you don't want to have alcohol. Having one specialty drink will help cut back on costs.

FLORALS

SHOP TALK

with Mary McCarthy of The Blooming Idea Photography by Derrick Bryant Photography

The Blooming Idea has been a favorite wedding flower shop for Woodlands Brides for 11 years. Their popularity has allowed them to expand their business from their original shop on Ashlane to include a new event center on Budde Road. Mary McCarthy, owner, holds a Texas Master Florist Advance Certification. Recently, McCarthy was inducted into the American Institute of Floral Design, the highest certification a florist can earn. WB: Tell us about your new shop. MM: We have expanded from 1800 square feet to over 4,000 square feet. Our new location allows us to be more event-centered. We have more room to display our rental items such as our arches, hoopas, and table top rentals.

16

Woodlands Bride / Winter 2013

WB: What are some of your favorite winter florals? MM: Roses, they are available in so many colors. Winter greens and snowberries. I love mixing in crystals. WB: What are some trends you are predicting for the upcoming wedding season? MM: We were just at a training and they were showing us a "Rockabilly" trend. It is very 1950s and 1960s inspired with skulls. Very interesting. We will also see more Gatsby-inspired weddings with the popularity of the new movie and Downtown Abby. WB: What would you recommend a bride splurge on for her flowers? MM: Her bouquet! It should always be filled with her favorite flowers.

SHE SAID YES

with local bride Megan Lichenstein

Photography by Derrick Bryant Photography

Meet bride-to-be, Megan. She’s the Event Specialist for The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau. When she’s not busy with work and events, she prefers being with family and friends and enjoys pampering herself. Now with a wedding on the horizon, most of her free time is spent getting into wedding dress shape! The Story "Trent and I met in junior high at Knox. We had classes together and had mutual friends, but did not take notice of one another until the summer of 2005 before our senior year of high school. We were participating in a pep rally at Market Street to kick off the upcoming school year. He was sitting with the rest of his football team watching us cheerleaders perform. We locked eyes several times throughout

that day and ended up talking for quite a bit after the event. We made plans to hang out that night and have been inseparable ever since!" The Engagement "We were in Oklahoma on vacation for a couple of weeks. Trent grew up going to Lake Tenkiller with his family so it’s always been a special place for them. This trip, we invited our close friends to stay with us. For my birthday, everyone got ready and Trent drove the pontoon boat to an island in the middle of the lake. When it came time for gifts, my friends told me I needed to turn around so they could “get it ready.” When I finally turned around, my friends and Trent’s mom were holding individual signs that read “Will… You… Marry…” with Trent in front of them on one knee holding a “Me?” sign, presenting me with the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen." ...continued on page 31

REAL ENGAGEMENT

Kim and Daniel Photography by Jonathan Ivy Photography

Kim + Daniel’s casual and colorful outdoor engagement session was taken at the Mercer Arboretum in Spring, on a beautiful winter day.

The Story

“He asked me to marry him at his parents’ house over Thanksgiving. We had just landed in Lubbock, his hometown, and his parents had decorated their living room to his specifications (flowers, candles, and tons of pictures of us). He asked me to marry him there, and about an hour later, surprised me again by flying my parents and my best friend into town to celebrate with us that evening. -Kim
