your new home. We see your potential and your possibility. Welcome to the College of Fine Arts, one of Western Michigan University’s seven colleges where you can explore your passion. With four departments and 25 major programs to choose from, you are sure to find a degree that exercises your creative mind and has realworld career applications.  Located on main campus, you will have all the resources of a large University, while also enjoying the small arts college feel of our small class sizes. You will have the flexibility to explore your interests by taking advantage of our study abroad programs, hundreds of student-run clubs and organizations, and the wealth of volunteer opportunities found on campus and in Kalamazoo.  Our students are taught and mentored by artists who have years of experience in their perspective fields, some are even still working in them! Guests artist frequent our campus as well, sharing new perspectives on working in the fine arts and guiding students on their career path.

We emphasize real classroom experiences in music education. Beginning in your first year, you will observe teachers and learn about what it takes to be an effective music teacher.


Develop your skills in and out of the classroom by auditioning for an ensemble. With 22 ensembles across all the studios, there are performance opportunities around every corner.

Students majoring within the College of Fine Arts must apply and be accepted into both the College and Western Michigan University. You can apply concurrently to both WMU and the College, you do not have to wait until you are accepted by WMU. STEP 1: Apply to WMU wmich.edu/apply STEP 2: Apply to your program Apply to the College of Fine Arts through your program of study. STEP 3: Audition or portfolio review Once you have submitted your application you will need to audition or undergo a portfolio review to be admitted.
