BHARAT RATNA

MADAN MOHAN MALAVIYA F r e e d o m F i g h t e r, E d u c a t i o n i s t , H i n d u S t a l w a r t December 25, 1861 - November 12, 1946

Madan Mohan Malaviya was an educationist and politician notable for his role in the Indian independence movement and was four time president of Indian National Congress. He is also known as a Hindu leader. He was respectfully called as Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya and also ‘Mahamana’.

S

hri Malviya was born in Allahabad, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India on 25th December 1861, in a Sri Gaud Brahmin family to Pandit Brij Nath and Moona Devi. His ancestors are well known for their Sanskrit scholarship and they originally hailed from Malwa, in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Shri Malviya started his schooling at Hardeva’s Dharma Gyanopadesh Pathshala. He joined Allahabad Zila School, where he started writing poems under the pen name Makarand. He matriculated in 1879 from the Muir Central College, presently Allahabad University. Completed his B.A. in the University of Calcutta. In July 1884 Shri Madan Mohan Malviya started his career as an assistant master at the Govt High School in Allahabad.

In December 1886, Malaviya attended the 2nd Indian National Congress session in Calcutta under chairmanship of Dadabhai Naoroji. In July 1887, he left his school job and joined as the editor of the nationalist Hindi weekly Hindustan. After two and a half years, he left for Allahabad to join L.L.B. Here he worked as coeditor of The Indian Union. After finishing his degree in law, started his practise at Allahabad District Court in 1891, and then in Allahabad High Court from December 1893.

Shri Malaviya asserted - “if you admit internal purity of the human soul, you or your religion can never get impure or defiled in any way by touch or association with any man”. To solve the problem of untouchability, Shri Malaviya followed the Hindu method, by giving Mantradiksha to untouchables. He said that - Mantras would be a certain means of their upliftment socially, politically and spiritually. He is the man who has popularised the slogan Satyameva Jayate (Truth alone will triumph). He is the person who has started the tradition of Aarti at Har ki Pauri at Haridwar, to the sacred Ganga river which is performed even now.

Shri Malaviya became the President of the Indian National Congress in 1909 and 1918. He opposed the separate electorates for Muslims under the Lucknow Pact of 1916, which was the minority appeasement by the congress from then onwards. He renounced his well established practice of law in 1911 to serve the cause of education and social-service. In order to follow the tradition of Sannyasa, he pursued the avowed commitment to live on the society’s support. But when 177 freedom fighters were convicted to be hanged in the Chouri-choura case, he appeared before the court, despite his vow and got acquitted 156 freedom fighters.

The well known educationist, freedom fighter and social reformer, Shri Madan Mohan Malaviya was ignored by the congress in which he was a member and elected president for more than one time. He has been honoured with Bharath Ratna the highest civilian award by the present day government lead by the prime minister Shri Narendra Modi. It is better late than never to honour personalities like Shri Madan Mohan Malaviya.

In 1928 he joined Lala Lajpat Rai, Jawaharlal Nehru and many others in protesting against the Simon Commission. Shri Malaviya was a delegate at the First Round Table Conference in 1930. During the Civil Disobedience Movement, he was arrested on 25 April 1932. On 25 September 1932, an agreement known as Poona Pact was signed between Dr. Ambedkar and Malaviya. The agreement gave reserved seats for the depressed classes in the Provisional legislatures, within the general electorate. In April 1911, Annie Besant met Malaviya and they decided to work for a common Hindu University at Varanasi. Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was established in 1916, through the Parliamentary legislation, ‘B.H.U. Act 1915’. In 1939, he left the Vice chancellorship of BHU and was succeeded by S. Radhakrishnan, who later became the President of India. Shri Malaviya played an important part in the removal of untouchability and starting the Harijan movement. The Harijan Sevak Sangh was founded at a meeting in 1933 at which Pandit Malviya presided. www.wishesh.com

In 1999 BJP led NDA was able to get 303 seats and formed the government under the Prime Minister-ship of Shri Vajpayee. Plenty of events has marked the term of Shri Vajpayee the most memorable. Some of them are as follows.

He has also worked for the newspapers of Deendayal Upadhyaya, Rashtradharma (a Hindi monthly), Panchjanya (a Hindi weekly) and the dailies Swadesh and Veer Arjun. His first exposure to politics was in August 1942, when he were arrested and remanded for 23 days during the Quit India movement. When Bharatheeya Janatha Party was formed in the year 1980, Shri Vajpayee was elected as the first President. The elections of 1996 made BJP the single largest party and Shri Vajpayee was sworn in as the Prime Minister. Since BJP was not able to cobble the support for majority in the parliament, the government lasted only for 13 days. In 1998 the people of India gave the coalition lead by BJP - NDA a majority and Shri Vajpayee was

On 13 December 2001, a group of masked, armed men with fake IDs stormed the Parliament building. Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee is known as a liberal in the right wing politics. He is acceptable to all irrespective of the political affiliations. He is also a poet and his poems are well acclaimed by one and all. There was not a single descending sound from anywhere for awarding Shri Vajpayee with Bharath Ratna, that is his acceptability.

PESHAWAR ATTACK - Nothing but cold blooded terrorism The attack on children in Peshawar cannot be condemned by words. Children in uniform left their home for the school to fulfil their and their parents dreams. But on the fatal day of on 16th December 2014 a day after the Sydney siege, has shattered the dreams. Around 150 children and teachers who went to school on that day returned in coffins, while many are recuperating in the hospitals. Someone said “smallest coffins are the heaviest”. It is being experienced in Peshawar. The terror attack is the aftermath of Pakistan’s soft peddling with terrorists. Mrs. Hillary Clinton rightly said, “You cannot have snakes in your backyard and expect only to bite your neighbours”. Pakistan’s Army, ISI and civilian government is responsible for the growth of the terror outfits in the Asian region. Training and arming of the terrorists are the main objectives of them. Pakistan is known as the breeding ground for terrorists. Now that the terrorists has started to give www.wishesh.com

back what Pakistan was doing against India. India has always warned that country for their acts in support to the terrorists terming them as Mujahids. The cowardice activity of Tehrik-eTaliban Pakistan is condemned by all the nations. The killing of innocent children is a crime which cannot be described with words. The barbarous act has proved the inhuman attitude of the outfit. Hope Pakistan has learned a lesson from this very act and take necessary action against terrorist which is already delayed a lot. Jammu and Kashmir election - most watched The Jammu and Kashmir elections were closely watched by the media from all over the world. Pakistan tried its level best to sabotage the election by sending terrorist during the election season. The Army and the BSF was able to prevent many terror strikes efficiently. This has given the people of Jammu and Kashmir a new life in the democratic process of the state. There was unprecedented turnout for casting their vote. This has shattered the separatists as well as Pakistan.

BJP was able to score the best in the life time of Jammu and Kashmir elections by winning 25 seats. The incumbent NC was reduced to 15 seats and congress to 12. Peoples Democratic Party was able to win 28 seats, making them the single largest party. The verdict has not given an absolute majority to any party or coalition. This has prompted for a re-alliance between the parties and betre noires. The discussions between all the parties irrespective of the ideologies are going on. The interesting thing is that no combination can give a stable government without BJP being a partner. BJP is having the upperhand in bargaining for the formation of a government. The noted big winner is former separatist leader and People’s Conference leader Sajjad Gani Lone who won his maiden election from Handwara. The political analysts from world over are keenly watching the developments due to the importance of the border state. Pakistan is already very much upset in the conducting the fair and free election in Jammu and Kashmir. Also they are worried that if BJP is having an upper-hand in the government, then the scandalistic movement of the Pakistan Army and ISI to send terrorist to the valley cannot be continued and also fear of strong retaliations. Ghar Vapasi - return to the original faith Ghar Vapasi has created lots of noise in the parliament and media. Ghar Vapasi is conducted by Hindu organizations to bring back the people who were previously believing in the Hindu faith and then lured or forced to convert into the faith of Christian or Muslim. Now that they have realized that they were being cheated by the new belief and they want to come back to their original faith. The RSS affiliates including Vishwa Hindu Parishad which are engaged in the reconversion activity focuses on areas on the basis of caste names. In Beawar district of neighbouring Rajasthan, RSS claimed that around 90,000 Muslims returned to Hindu fold over a decade. RSS stated that, Kshatriyas and Baniyas of western Uttar Pradesh form a majority of those who got converted to Islam because of poverty or lack of respect within their own community. In the latest convention in Bhopal, speaker after speaker stressed that caste discrimination and untouchability were driving the Hindus to other faiths. “When you let dogs and cats enter your bedrooms and kitchens why should you discriminate against some human beings because of their caste’’. Vishwa Hindu Parishad was an organization which has stood for the cause of Hindus and is playing a very important role to

end the discrimination in the name of caste. The opposition parties were up in arm against the government of the day in the issue of Ghar Vapasi. But it is to be noted that none of these so called secular member have raised any voice when Hindus are converted to Christian or Muslim faith. The screaming of the opposition is nothing but to make them seen in the media as the supporters of Christians and Muslims. It is very interesting to note that the ordinary Christians and Muslims are not lured with this kind of minority appeasement by the opposition. The government has announced that they are ready for legislation for total ban of conversion. But the opposition objected to it, because the business of conversion cannot be stopped by the Christian and Muslim groups and the vote bank politics cannot be able to played.

The popular sentiment of the people is that, a controversy regarding Ghar Vapasi is not required as long as the people of Hindu faith are being converted by luring or force. January/2015

Indian Parliament

Parliament log jam - Irresponsible opposition The winter session of the parliament was washed out by the irresponsible opposition who were in the well at the drop of a hat. The opposition which has been reduced in size and the BJP’s absolute majority has made the opposition to do anything to stall the parliament to get into the news. They tried their level best to ensure no business is transacted in the winter session. The loss is for the people of the country. The opposition members will get their salary and other allowances without fail. They do not have any guilty consciousness in this. The first issue was for a jibe by the minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyothi in a BJP’s karyakartha meeting. Once the minister issued a statement of regret, the opposition went silent. Then came the statement of Shri Sakshi Maharaj, that also ended with a statement by the member. The next issue was regarding Ghar Vapasi programmes organized by the Hindu organizations. The opposition demanded a statement by the prime minister. None of the opposition member are seen raising their voice when the reports of conversion of around 200 Hindus are conducted in the state of Bihar. The opposition is united only for anything to be done against the unorganized Hindus. Minority

appeasement by the so called secular opposition politicians always stood against the feelings of Hindus. Since the Hindu sect does not have a vote bank, they always ignored the demands of Hindus and stood in favour of the minorities because they are united and forms the vote bank. Now that there is a decisive government, the vote bank politics is gradually losing the stream. Cleverly government has put the ball in the oppositions court by suggesting for total ban on conversion. Lots of hours have lost by the arrogant attitude of the opposition. This has affected the legislation of many bills which is having a long lasting effect in the welfare of the country and people.

The Lok sabha was able to function due to the strength of the treasury benches. But the Rajya sabha was disturbed continuously by the opposition where government does not have the required numbers. This shows the mindset of the opposition to stall the bills which are in the interest of country and the people. www.wishesh.com

he organizers had arranged Vinoba’s stay at Pochampally, a small village with about 700 families, of whom two-thirds were landless. Seeing the plight of landless villagers, Vinoba inquired whether anything is possible to do if it is not possible to get land from the government. Vedre Ramchandra Reddy, the local landlord got up and said that he is ready to donate 250 acres. This incident was neither planned nor imagined of the Bhoodan movement and it made Vinoba realize that there is some potentiality of solving the land problem of India. This movement later on developed into a village gift or Gramdan movement. As the huge, massive and magnificent movement called Bhoodan Movement was born at this village of Pochampally, the village was renamed to Bhoodan Pochampally.

Pochampally weave is popularly known as tie and dye weave.

Pochampally is known for its Ikat style of saris and dress materials. Pochampally has traditional looms, and the designs used are more than a century-old. The uniqueness lies in the making of design and colouring onto the warp and weft threads and then weaving them together. The fabric used for weaving is cotton, silk and sico - a mix of silk and cotton. Increasingly, the colours used are from natural sources and their blends. Pochampally dyeing is done with tie and die technique, in which the warp, weft or both are tie-dyed before weaving to create designs on the finished fabric. Great care is taken in tying resist areas with water repellent material like bicycle inner tubes cut into strips. The precision of the wrapping gives the clarity of the design. After wrapping, the warp threads are dyed. When finished and unwrapped, the areas under the ties will be in the original colour. Numerous colours can be added by doing additional wrappings. Designs are generally drawn out on graph paper and then tie-dyed. Since designs are already incorporated in the threads, great care is to be taken while putting the warp on the loom. Keeping all the threads in position is necessary for the designs. Pochampally handlooms are well known for its durability of the colours used in the yarn. The right mixture and quality of colour gives durability. The count used gives the softness and hardness of the fabric. Count means the number of threads used in the length and breadth for weaving. Each and every thread of the Pochampally saree is hand woven. In Pochampally frame looms are used for weaving. Here each weaver works from home with all the family helping in different processes. Perhaps the grandmother is winding bobbins, while the wife is marking out the design on warp threads and the husband is weaving on a loom. Handlooms are the creativity of the artisans. They make their livelihood by weaving wonderful designs which people adore and wear with lots of enthusiasm.

aipur is built in the form of an eight-part Mandala known as the ‘Pithapada’. Nine signifies the nine planets of the ancient astrological zodiac. The city was built by following the principles of Shilpa Shastra, the science of Indian Architecture. The city was divided into nine blocks, two consists the state buildings and palaces, remaining seven are allotted to the public. The city was planned according to Indian Vastu Shastra (Vedic Planning for the comfort and prosperity of the citizens).

The directions of each street and market are East to West and North to South. The Eastern gate is called Suraj (Sun) Pol, Western gate is called Chand (Moon) Pol. There are three gates facing East, West, and North and a Northern gate (Zorawar Singh gate) faces towards the ancestral capital of Amber, while many gates face South. Huge fortification walls were built along with seven strong gates which encircles the old city. The gates used to be closed at sunset and opened at sunrise.

Lord Krishna Mother Earth, who was unable to bear the burden of sins committed by evil kings and rulers, appealed to Brahma, the creator for help. Brahma prayed to the Supreme Lord Vishnu, who assured him that he would soon be born on earth to annihilate cruel forces.

One such evil force was Kamsa, the ruler of Mathura and his people were utterly terrified of him. On the day of Kamsa’s sister Devaki was married off to Vasudeva, a voice from the sky was heard saying that Devaki’s 8th son will kill Kamsa. Frightened Kamsa immediately unsheathed his sword to kill his sister, but Vasudeva intervened and implored Kamsa to spare his bride and promised to hand over January/2015

every new born child to him. Kamsa relented, but imprisoned Devaki and her husband Vasudeva. When Devaki gave birth to her first child, Kamsa came to the prison and slaughtered the newborn. In this way, he killed the first six sons of Devaki. The 7th is said to be aborted. Devaki and Vasudeva while lamenting about the fate of their 8th child and theirs, Lord 38

Vishnu appeared before them and said he himself is coming to rescue them and the people of Mathura. He asked Vasudeva to carry him to the house of his friend, the cowherd chief Nanda in Gokul right after his birth, where Nanda’s wife Yashoda had given birth to a daughter. He was to exchange and bring Yashoda’s baby daughter to the prison.

At midnight on the day of ashtami and star Rohini, the divine baby was born in Kamsa’s prison. Remembering the divine instructions, Vasudeva clasped the child to his bosom and went to Gokul. While crossing river Yamuna, Vasudeva held his baby high over his head. The rain fell in torrents and the river was overflowing. Miraculously the water made way for Vasudeva and a five-mouthed snake followed him from behind and provided shelter over the baby.

When Vasudeva reached Gokul, he found the door of Nanda’s house is open. He exchanged the babies and hurried back to the prison of Kamsa with the baby girl. Early in the morning, all the people at Gokul rejoiced on the birth of Nanda’s beautiful male child. Vasudeva came back to Mathura.

When Kamsa came to know about the birth, he rushed inside the prison and tried to kill the baby. But it skipped from his hand and transformed into the goddess Yogamaya, and told Kamsa: “O foolish! What will you get by killing me? Your nemesis is already born somewhere else.” In his youth Krishna killed Kamsa along with all his cruel associates, liberated his parents from prison, and reinstated Ugrasen as the King of Mathura.

TRAVELOGUE

T

he town of Tirupati (Tiru Pati - Husband of Lord Venkateswara) is one of the most ancient and spectacular places of pilgrimage in India. It is situated in the Chittoor district in the southern part of the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. Tirupati is well connected with road, rail and air. Tirumala (Tiru Mala - Hill of Lord Venkateswara) Hill is 3200 ft above sea level. Tirumala is the abode of Lord Sri Venkateswara or Balaji or Srinivasa and it comprises of seven peaks, representing the seven hoods of Adisesha or Anantha (bed of Lord Vishnu), thus earning the name, Seshachalam. The seven peaks are called Seshadri, Neeladri, Garudadri, Anjanadri, Vrishabhadri, Narayanadri and Venkatadri. The ancient and sacred temple of Sri Venkateswara is located on the seventh peak, Venkatadri (Venkata Hill) of the Tirumala Hill, and lies on the southern banks of Sri Swami Pushkarini. The temple of Sri Venkateswara has acquired unique sanctity in Indian religious lore. The Sastras, Puranas, Sthala Mahatyams and Alwar hymns unequivocally declare that, in the Kali Yuga, one can attain mukti, only by worshipping Venkata Nayaka or Sri Venkateswara.

that the contributions to the temple increased. Sri Krishnadevaraya had statues of himself and his consorts installed at the portals of the temple, and these statues can be seen to this day. There is also a statue of Venkatapati Raya in the main temple. After the decline of the Vijayanagar dynasty, nobles and chieftains from all parts of the country continued to pay their homage and offer gifts to the temple. The Maratha general, Raghoji Bhonsle, visited the temple and set up a permanent endowment for the conduct of worship in the temple. He also presented valuable jewels to the Lord, including a large emerald which is still preserved in a box named after the General. Among the later rulers who have endowed large amounts are the rulers of Mysore and Gadwal. After the fall of the Hindu kingdoms, the Muslim rulers of Karnataka and then the Britishers took over, and many of the temples came under their supervisory and protective control. In 1843 AD, the East India Company divested itself of the direct management of non-Christian places of worship and native religious institutions. The administration of the shrine of Sri Venkateswara and a number of estates were then entrusted to Sri Seva Dossji of Hatiramji Mutt at Tirumala, and the temple remained under the administration of the Mahants for nearly a century, till 1933 AD.

TIRUPATHI

SHRI VENKATESWARA SWAMY

THE LORD of

UNIVERSE

The temple has its origins in Vaishnavism, an ancient sect which advocates the principles of equality and love, and prohibits animal sacrifice. Sri Venkatachala Mahatmya is referred to in several Puranas such as Varaha Purana, Padma Purana, Garuda Purana, Brahmanda Purana, Markandeya Purana, Harivamsa, Vamana Purana, Brahma Purana, Brahmottara Purana, Aditya Purana, Skanda Purana and Bhavishyottara Purana., of which the most important are the Varaha Purana and the Bhavishyottara Purana. All the great dynasties of rulers of the southern peninsula have paid homage to Lord Sri Venkateswara in this ancient shrine. The Pallavas of Kancheepuram, the Cholas of Thanjavur, the Pandyas of Madurai, and the kings and chieftains of Vijayanagar were all devotees of Lord Sri Venkateswara. It was during the rule of the Vijayanagar dynasty

In 1933, the Madras Legislature passed a special act, which empowered the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Committee to control and administer a fixed group of temples in the TirumalaTirupati area, through a Commissioner appointed by the Government of Madras. In 1951, the Act of 1933 was replaced by an enactment whereby the administration of TTD was entrusted to a Board of Trustees, and an Executive Officer was appointed by the Government. The provisions of the Act of 1951 were retained by Charitable and Religious Endowments Act, 1966. Tirupathi is the most sought destination for pilgrimage. Devotees used to stand for long hours for the darshan. During the festival times and holidays there would be a continues inflow of devotees. Lakhs of people used to congregate during these days. It will be a good idea if you can find out the amount of rush, so that the pilgrimage can be comfortable.

VAASTU CORNER

VASTU SASTRA SCIENTIFIC ASPECT OF BETTER LIVING

Vastu shastra means the science of architecture and construction. The Indian manual on design, layout, measurements, ground preparation, space arrangement, spatial geometry and other aspects of architecture. The designs are based on integrating architecture with nature and ancient Indian beliefs utilizing perfect geometric patterns (yantra), symmetry and directional alignments. Vastu Sastra discusses the designing of Mandir (temples) and include chapters on the principles, design and layout of houses, towns, cities, gardens, roads, water works, shops and other public necessities.

There exist many Vastu-Sastras on the art of building houses, temples, towns and cities. One such Vastu Sastra is by Thakkura Pheru, describing where and how temples should be built. The Silpa Prakasa of Odisha, authored by Ramacandra Bhattaraka Kaulacara sometime in ninth or tenth century CE, is another Vastu Sastra. Silpa Prakasa describes the geometric principles in every aspect of the temple and symbolism such as 16 emotions of human beings carved as 16 types of female figures. Sutradhara Mandana’s Prasadamandana (literally, manual for planning and building a temple) has chapters on town building. Manasara, a text of South Indian origin, is a guidebook on South Indian Vastu design and construction. Isanasivagurudeva paddhati is another Sanskrit text describing the art of buildings in south and central India. In north India, Brihat-samhita by Varahamihira is the widely cited ancient Sanskrit manual from 6th century describing the design and construction of Nagara style of Hindu temples. January/2015

The Vastu Purusha Mandala is an indispensable part of vastu shastra and constitutes the mathematical design. It is the metaphysical plan of a building that incorporates the coursely bodies and supernatural forces. Purusha refers to energy, soul or Universal Principle. Mandala is the generic name for any plan or chart which symbolically represents the cosmos. IN VASTU-PURUSA-MANDALA, THE AREAS (PADAS, SQUARES) ARE ASSOCIATED WITH CERTAIN DEITIES, SUCH AS:

In Indian architecture, the dwelling is itself a shrine. A home is called Manushyalaya, “Human Temple”. It is not merely a shelter for human beings in which to rest and eat. The concept behind house design is the same as for temple design, sacred and spiritual.

North- Kubera- Ruled by lord of wealth (Finance) South- Yama- Ruled by lord of death – Yama (Damaging) East- Indra- Ruled by the solar deity- Aditya (Seeing the world) West- Varuna- Ruled by lord of water (Physical) Northeast {Eshanya} – Ruled by Shiva Southeast- Agni- Ruled by the fire deity – Agni (Energy Generating) Northwest- Vayu- ruled by the god of winds (Advertisement) Southwest- Pitru/ Nairutya, Niruthi- Ruled by ancestors (History) Center- Brahma- Ruled by the creator of the universe (Desire)

Vastu Sastra takes into consideration all these aspect while designing the construction of a building. The proper follow-up of Vastu Sastra can bring harmony and prosperity to the people living in that building. Vastu Satra is a vast subject which is to be scrutinized and studied with care and devotion. www.wishesh.com

FLAG FROM ARNI, TAMIL NADU

The National Flag of India is a horizontal rectangular tricolour of deep saffron, white and India green; with the Ashoka Chakra, a 24-spoke wheel, in navy blue at its centre. It was adopted in its present form during a meeting of the Constituent Assembly held on 22 July 1947. The flag, by law, is to be made of khadi, a special type of hand-spun cloth, or silk made popular by Mahatma Gandhi. The manufacturing process and specifications for the flag are laid out by the Bureau of Indian Standards. www.wishesh.com

HISTORY

The right to manufacture the flag is held by the Khadi Development and Village Industries Commission, who allocate it to the regional groups. As of 2009, the Karnataka Khadi Gramodyoga Samyukta Sangha was the sole manufacturer of the flag. Usage of the flag is governed by the Flag Code of India and other laws relating to the national emblems. The Indian flag has a ratio of two by three (where the length of the flag is 1.5 times that of the width). All three stripes of the flag has to be equal in width and length. The flag was designed by Pingali Venkayya. The colour scheme, saffron, white and green were chosen for the three bands, representing courage and sacrifice,

peace and truth, and faith and chivalry respectively. The Ashoka Chakra representing the eternal wheel of law. The philosopher Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was India’s first Vice President and second President, clarified the adopted flag and described it as follows: “Bhagwa or the saffron colour denotes renunciation of disinterestedness. The white in the centre is light, the path of truth to guide our conduct. The green shows our relation to soil, our relation to the plant life here, on which all other life depends. The “Ashoka Chakra” in the centre of the white is the wheel of the law of dharma”.

The first flag hoisted in the Red Fort on independence of India is a silk flag weaved in Arni. Arni is located in the district of Thiruvannamalai in the state of Tamilnadu. Arni is one of the most important Silk centers of Tamil Nadu. The town is situated at a distance of 132 kms to the West of Chennai. Arni the city of silk fabrics is accessible from Vellore also.

GSLV MK III INDIA IN THE PATH OF ADVANCED SPACE

TECHNOLOGY

THE GSLV MK III OR GEOSYNCHRONOUS SATELLITE LAUNCH VEHICLE MARK III IS A LAUNCH VEHICLE DEVELOPED BY THE INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH ORGANISATION (ISRO). It is intended to launch satellites into geostationary orbit and as a launcher for an Indian crew vehicle. January/2015

T

he GSLVIII features an Indian cryogenic third stage and a higher payload c a p a c i t y than the current GSLV. Development for the GSLV-III began in the early 2000s, with the first launch planned for 20092010. Several factors have delayed the program, including the 15 April 2010 failure of the ISROdeveloped cryogenic upper stage on the GSLV Mk II. A suborbital flight test of the GSLV-III launcher, with a passive cryogenic third stage, was successfully carried out on 18 December 2014, and was used to

test a crew module on a suborbital trajectory. The first orbital flight is planned to take place in 2016. The first flight with a crew on board would take place after 2020. The S-200 solid rocket booster was successfully tested on 24 January 2010. The booster fired for 130 seconds and generated a peak thrust of about 500 tonnes. Nearly 600 ballistic and safety parameters were monitored during the test. A second successful static test was conducted on 4 September 2011. The GSLV-III lifted off from the second launch pad in Sriharikota, at 9.30 am IST on 18 December 2014. The 630.5 tonne rocket was having two active solid and liquid propulsion stages (S 200 and L110 respectively) in addition to its cryogenic engine C 25 X.

Just over five minutes into the flight, the rocket ejected the cup-cake shaped 3.7-tonne Crew Module Atmospheric Re-entry Experiment (CARE) at an altitude of 126 km. CARE then descended at high speed. The speed was controlled by remotely manipulating its onboard motors till it reached an altitude of 80 km. From here the ballistic re-entry into the atmosphere began while the onboard thrusters were shut down. CARE’s heat shield was expected to experience a temperature of around 1600 °C.CARE splashed down in the Bay of Bengal near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Analysis T h e first of the film starts with lot of interest right from the beginning and maintains the tempo. The comedy one liners bring lot of laughs and the story has been revealed in a sensible way. The movie gets on interesting and the first half ends on a highly impressive note. After a tight and gripping first half, the movie witnesses a downfall in the later half which should have written with care. The narration has been boring however the movie picks up at times but falls down again. The climax of the movie impresses good which makes the second half decent. REVIEW

Performance Aamir Khan who is known to be Mr Perfect has done perfect justice for the role of PK. The hard work put by him will be clearly seen on the screen and he is the highlight of the film. Anushka Sharma has done a challenging role and she impresses with her performance. Saurabh Shukla, Boman Irani, Sanjay Dutt and Sushanth Singh Rajput have fit into the assigned roles. The story of the film has lot of scope to enlarge and narrate. The screenplay and the diolagues have been impressive but in the second half they are good at times. The music and the background score need a special mention which elevates the movie. The photography has been fantastic which captured every scene colorful. The production values have been grand enough and the director has been excellent in directing the movie and he elevated the movie at the right time and the exact point.

PK BOX OFFICE COLLECTION: AAMIR KHAN AND ANUSHKA SHARMA STARRER INCHING TOWARDS RS 300 CRORE CLUB!

As expected, Rajkumar Hirani’s latest directorial venture has got cash registers jingling and how! Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma, Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani and Sushant Singh Rajput’s highly anticipated film PK hit the screens last Friday and got off to a flying start. Considering all the buzz around the film, we weren’t surprised with the response it garnered on day one at the ticket windows. On Friday, PK raked in Rs 26.56 crore and on Saturday the collections ever even it better as the film grossed Rs 30.05 crore at the box office.

Final Word PK is sure a box-office winner. Aamir Khan steals the show with his performance. A well written second half could have done wonders at the box-office for sure. On the whole PK is a worth watching film.

www.wishesh.com

Though the official figures for Sunday haven’t been disclosed as yet, early estimates suggests that Aamir-Anushka starrer has minted between Rs 38 to 40 crore on day three. Thus bringing its opening weekend total to around Rs 94 to 96 crore approximately, which wethinks is mighty impressive. While Hirani and Aamir’s second collaboration has managed to impress the critics and audience alike, at the box office their film hasn’t really broken any big records as yet. But that’s absolutely okay because PK is one of those films which will run in the theatres for a very long time. Yes, it seems like a lambi race ka ghoda and certainly has the potential to become the highest grossing film of Bollywood. 67

21ST JUNE - WORLD YOGA DAY

YOGA

PADMASANA

PERFECT WAY TO SIT

Padmasana or Lotus posture is one of those poses that everyone wants to do. It is difficult for people to achieve. It is an important posture for both yoga and meditation. It’s not only considered to be an advanced yoga posture, but also thought to be the best sitting posture

for meditation. It allows you to feel stable, grounded, and alert. If you do poses regularly, your hips will gradually open, and eventually you will find yourself sitting in padmasana. The following easy postures can help you to master padmasana.

1. BOUND ANGLE POSE (BADDHA KONASANA) This pose will stretch out your inner thigh muscles. If you can practise it regularly, it will allow your knees to gradually drop towards the floor and help you to get into padmasana easier. Sit with your legs straight out in front of you. Bend your knees and pull your heels as close to your pelvis as you can. Allow your knees to fall out to the sides and press the soles of your feet together. Hold both feet with your hands while keeping your back straight. To deepen the stretch, slowly fold forward. Take 10 deep breaths.

2. BENDING HEAD TO KNEE POSE (PARIVRIVRITTA JANU SIRSASANA) This pose targets the inner thigh muscles, the quads, and the often stiff muscles and tissues along the side of the torso that connect the waist and hip area. From a seated posture, bend your left leg and bring your left foot to the inside of your right thigh. Keeping your torso rotated to the left and your chest open, bend towards your right leg. Allow the right side of your body to sink towards your right leg and try to take hold of your right toes with your right hand. If you can, stretch your left arm over your head to meet the right. Take 10 deep breaths and then repeat on the other side.

3. PIGEON (EKA PADA RAJAKAPOTASANA) Pigeon pose stretches and allows you to stretch a bit deeper as you’re using the weight of your body to sink further into the hips. Step your left leg forward and lower your left thigh and shin onto the floor. Flex your left ankle to protect your knee. Keep your right leg straight behind you. Stretch your arms out in front and slowly lower your torso towards the floor. Take 10 deep breaths and repeat on the other side.

4. COW FACE POSE (GOMUKHASANA) This hip opener targets both the external and internal hip rotators, making it an ideal pose to prepare for padmasana. Cross one leg over the other so that both ankles are resting next to the opposite hip, and your knees are stacked. You can do the pose with your arms in any comfortable position. Take a few breaths, and then take your hands to the front and begin to fold forward. Take 10 deep breaths and then repeat on the other side.

5. HALF LOTUS POSE (ARDHA PADMASANA)

Before attempting full padmasana, you should be able sit comfortably in half padmasana on both sides, with both knees in contact with or almost touching the floor. Sit on the floor with your legs crossed. Bring your right foot in close to your groin. Place the outside of your left ankle onto your right thigh, close to your hip. Straighten your back, and try to sit comfortably.

FULL LOTUS POSE (PADMASANA): Once you feel comfortable in doing half lotus on both sides, you can attempt full padmasana. Sit comfortably with your legs crossed. Place the outside of your right foot on top of your left thigh, close to your groin. Gently and carefully bring your left foot up and over your shin, and place it on your right thigh. Straighten your back and sit in this pose for as long as you can.

PRESCRIBED DUTIES; CERTAINLY; RIGHT; OF YOU; NEVER; IN THE FRUITS; AT ANY TIME; NEVER; IN THE RESULT OF THE WORK; CAUSE; BECOME; You have a right to perform your NEVER; prescribed duty, but OF YOU; you are not entitled to the fruits of action. ATTACHMENT; Never consider yourself to be the BE THERE; cause of the results IN NOT DOING. of your activities, and 70

never be attached to not doing your duty. www.wishesh.com

There are three considerations such as prescribed duties, capricious work, and inaction. Prescribed duties refer to activities performed while one is in the modes of material nature. Capricious work means actions without the sanction of authority, and inaction means not performing one’s prescribed duties. The Lord Krishna advised Arjuna not be inactive, but to perform his prescribed duty without being attached to the result. One who is attached to the result of work is also the cause of the action. Thus he becomes the enjoyer or sufferer of the result of such actions. As far as prescribed duties are concerned, they can be fitted into three subdivisions, namely routine work, emergency work and desired activities. Routine work, in terms of the scriptural injunctions, is done without desire for the results. As one has to do it, obligatory work is action in the mode of goodness. Work with results becomes the cause of bondage. Everyone has their own proprietary right in regard to prescribed duties, they should act without attachment to the result; such duties doubtlessly lead one to the path of liberation.

January/2015

ARIES Expect your month of January to be busy with social life: friends’ invitation, painting exhibition, concerts, and say yes to everything that is offered to you. You will be able to meet new friends also, expanding your network and your interests too. Jupiter in Leo opens your sense of pleasure whereas the Sun in your career domain is stimulating your ambition. Uranus is pushing you to get out of your comfort zone, whereas Pluto increases your anxiety. Don’t let fear win over a daring attitude that is closer to who you are.

CANCER

TAURUS You are really motivated professionally and you want to show what you are capable of. Ask your boss for another type of task, you will probably get that, as it is time to get out of the routine. You have some other skills to develop. Organizing your home differently to make it cozier is something you want to make this winter. Singles may meet love at work and it may be confusing at the beginning but if you feel that it can be something important, just go for it. Until January 13, you are overwhelmed by family problems, emotional and practical, it will be calmer after that date.

You are putting yourself in question. What is the meaning of your life, your purpose, the priority for 2015 are changing and you need to redefine your schedule, your relationship, the way you eat and exercise. Make a plan that s organized and introduce new habits one by one, so you don’t put pressure on yourself. You lover is encouraging you and it means a lot as you are always driven positively by feelings. Single Cancers are attracted by someone who is not available and it can be frustrating. Wait for spring for something new.

LEO In January, you don’t like to be on your own, you will ask for company, your loved one or your best friend should be on your side. You are not becoming needy, just that you feel better with someone helping you. You will be a little aggressive with your loved one until the 13th, then sweet and gentle. It may be time to lose weight as you really enjoyed partying the whole month of December, so time to eat healthy and go to bed earlier. At work Pluto and the Sun help you to find the good solutions to difficult problems.

GEMINI January is a month of positive reflection. You make lists of things you want to do during the year. Plans are clearly defined, dates and prices of trips for example. Or deciding what sport you want to do and where or how many times a week you want to practice. A relationship with a brother or a sister is under pressure as you tell each other some truths you were keeping, it will result in a clearing after the confrontation. You are closer to your loved one, you try to spend quality time together and you really enjoy it. Work is not first in your life for now.

VIRGO

SAGITTARIUS

Time to go back to work. You will be overwhelmed by the amount of work that is waiting for you. Everybody has a question for you, an emergency, needs your help, and comes knock at your door any time. Hard for you to say no but you can prioritize, what your boss wants is an emergency, the rest is for later. You feel responsible for your parents and are closer to them than before, they may be in transition in their life and they need your presence. Your sweetie may be frustrated because he or she is not first in your life this month, you connect regularly through sweet texts, better than nothing.

SCORPIO You focus on money, budget, savings and you get information for that. Meet your banker and see how you can save money. Some Scorpios will make plans to buy a property, thinking it is time to buy a home. Some others are already looking for a new job that will be paying more. Some others will start additional training in order to progress at work. Love is very romantic, words of love, nice post-it with hearts, massage, you are really considerate to your loved one’s needs. Single Scorpios have a great possibility to meet unexpectedly at a last minute dinner.

LIBRA

North node in Libra keeps putting you on the right track, as each time you act in a nice way, you get a great rewards, and so your best behavior is reinforced. Love is great in January, you take care of each other in a very loving way, no games, just sincerity and truth that is what you like. Being able to trust your partner helps you make projects for the following month. Single, you need to go out as your chances to meet someone are high, your friends want to introduce you to people, so dress up, smile and go.

AQUARIUS

CAPRICORN You may get a raise this month and you are happy to get that kind of recognition as you know you deserve it. You will spend the extra money immediately as Mars in your financial zone is pushing you to have compulsions for clothes. You are thinking about a new financial plan for later though. Pay attention to your back, go to the gym, stretch, don’t force, and just be regular. You talk money with your loved one, as you get the feeling that you are being taken advantage paying more than your share. You will feel relieve once you talked with him or her, instead of building resentments.

PISCES

Can others see what you can see? Is there a vision you have that you know is recognized and supported by others? In many ways now, it doesn’t matter how ‘in tune’ with a goal of yours others are. What fires your imagination does so because you can see what the tangible and achievable result is. There are therefore limits to how much persuading - or arm twisting - you are obliged to do. As December unfolds, it will become clearer how able you are to make progress in your own way and time and in a way that suits you. As long as you remain inspired, you can make December a very memorable month.

You tell them what you think in a blunt way, try to be diplomatic as it an hurt, not everybody can hear the truth about themselves. Your home is a mess and you need to reorganize and clear the extra clutter, as you waste time looking for things. You do nothing or everything, so the end of the month, your home will be completely organized and Zen. Easier to be at peace when you find things.
