In July 2000, a South African by the name of Graham Power challenged Christians in Cape Town to spend a day in repentance and prayer. The following year, more than 45,000 churches were involved.

Power based the Global Day of Prayer on a vision God gave him of 2 Chronicles 7:14.

In 2002, Power called the entire continent of Africa to a day of repentance and prayer. By 2004, the concept had grown to a Global Day of Prayer. In 2005, 156 of the world’s 220 nations participated. In 2008, 214 nations were involved. Now in its twelfth year, the Global Day of Prayer is inviting Christians around the world to join in this special concert of prayer. “With its common language of humility and compassion, the Global Day of Prayer has become one of the most powerful expressions of focused Christian unity in modern history,” writes the Sentinel Group. “Every year, throughout the world, believers of all ages, colors and creeds gather for one purpose: to summon the presence of their great God.”

Praise Report

“ We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks! For Your wondrous works declare that Your name is near.”–The Bible, Psalm 75:1 PAKISTAN Although Asia Bibi, the wife and mother convicted of blasphemy and sentenced to death, is still in prison, her accuser now regrets filing the charges. According to Missions Network News and Assist News Service, the man now realizes, “The case was not based on facts but on hyped religious emotions and personal bias of some village women, including his wife. Give thanks to God for the conviction of the Holy Spirit in this man’s life. Pray for Asia Bibi to be released from prison. Ask the Lord to use this situation as an opportunity for the Word to be preached in Pakistan.

were awarded ownership. Praise the Lord for this. Ask Him to help these Brothers and Sisters forgive their attackers and pray for those who mistreat them. Pray for their love to be a witness to Muslims. IRAN In March 2012, three Christian converts were released temporarily by a court in Shiraz. They were arrested in the recent crackdown that involved raids on house churches in Shiraz, Ahwa, Kermanshah, and Esfahan. An unknown number of Christians remain in prison from these raids. Despite this ongoing persecution, Open Doors reports that the Church in Iran is experiencing “explosive growth.” Give thanks to the Lord for this. Pray for the Lord to minister healing and strength to these three Christians. Ask Him to encourage them and bring honor to His name through them in Iran. Pray for those who are still in prison. Pray for the Lord to be present with them and enable them to share His love with their fellow prisoners and guards.

The Lord’s name is very near, as the following praise reports testify.

INDONESIA According to Assist News Service, Christians in Indonesia have won a long legal battle for control of their village. In 2008, Muslims attacked and destroyed the village of Horale in Maluku province. At least 120 houses were burned to the ground, along with three churches. Four Christians were murdered and more than 50 others were injured. A week later, Muslims brought a legal suit in an attempt to take ownership of the village. “Despite evidence in support of the Horale Christians, the court ruled in favor of the [Muslims].” After appealing the verdict, the Christians

Since we cannot go to the Saudis, how can we reach them? One of the ways God seems to be solving this dilemma is by bringing the Saudis to us.

i : l d

Every summer, Saudis travel abroad to vacation in locations where the weather is less severe. (The average summer temperature is about 45C, with highs sometimes reaching 54C). In the summer of 2010, approximately 5 million Saudis left the country. According to travel agencies, because of the Arab Spring protests in surrounding nations, Saudis are increasingly choosing Europe over the Middle East and North Africa as their vacation destination. “It is expected this summer that Europe will witness an increase in the number of Saudi tourists up to 20 percent, while the number of Saudi tourists to Arab countries will witness a sharp fall due to the current restlessness there.”

Pray for Saudis traveling abroad to have the opportunity to hear and respond to the Gospel. (The Bible, Romans 10:14) the hearts of Saudis to be soft, fertile soil for the Word of God. (The Bible, Matthew 13:23) the Lord to provide for ministries working in this harvest field. Pray for more laborers. Ask Him to give them strategies, funds, and wisdom in reaching Saudis. (The Bible, Luke 10:2) Christians who meet Saudis to be bold in sharing their faith. (The Bible, Ephesians 6:19) Saudi men, women, and children to put their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (The Bible, Romans 10:13)

Another trend among younger Saudis is to travel with friends rather than their families. “While this ensures their personal freedom,” writes Arab News, “it might also cause them trouble or make them commit fatal mistakes.” The outside world looks very enticing to young Saudis, the news source reports. “This makes them an easy prey for organized gangs.” Sources: Arab News. The Arab Spring

One journalist dubbed it “the most important story of the early 21st century.”

suppress real or potential threats to their rule.”

That story began in January 2011 when a street vendor set himself on fire to protest unfair treatment by the government. This drastic act ignited a wave of popular demonstrations that quickly spread across North Africa and the Middle East, shaking the Arab world.

In elections held in Tunisia and Egypt, Islamists seized control. “None of this should be surprising,” says a researcher at the Brookings Institute. “Islamists are popular, they’re well organized. It was inevitable that they were going to win and dominate these elections.”

Leaders were deposed in Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, and Yemen. Protesters in Algeria, Bahrain, and Oman demanded more freedoms, lower prices, and cried out for an end to corruption. In Syria, the result was a devastating, government-backed military attack against civilians as President al-Assad struggled to maintain control. Nations were in turmoil and untold thousands died. One year later, the question many are asking is this: what lasting change, if any, did the

Arab Spring accomplish? For starters, according to the Arab Tourism Organization, the countries that were part of the Arab Spring lost a combined total of $96 billion in tourism. The lives of many of the citizens in the Arab Spring countries were forever altered. Families lost sons, daughters, fathers, mothers… Libyans and Syrians fled the deadly warfare taking place in their nations, causing the total number of displaced people to reach a 15-year high. Countless refugees are still homeless today. “The political uprisings that have swept the Arab world over the past year represent the most significant challenge to the authoritarian rule since the collapse of Soviet Communism,” writes Freedom House, a human rights group. “Yet even as the Arab Spring triggered unprecedented progress in some countries, it also provoked a harsh and sometimes murderous reaction, with many leaders scrambling to www.WIN1040.com

While the loss of income, the death toll, displacement of civilians, and the rise of Islamist control are negative developments, there is one very positive aspect to the Arab Spring: it presents an open door for the Gospel. “There’s a large number of people who, in their heart and mind, have seen a glimpse of what they want,” writes a Christian worker. “They do not want to go back. Right now, the opportunity [to share the Gospel] is so great. We’ve never

rie h d u o h C r o Dr. Vict

Dr.

Victor Choudhrie of the Starfish Alliance ministry in Padhar, India has set aside Pentecost 2012 (May 27) as a day to be fruitful and multiply. He has issued a challenge to the Church around the globe to make disciples on that day – and to pray in the months leading up to this event. Pentecost, Dr. Choudhrie notes, is the birthday of the Church. It is also a harvest festival in the Jewish calendar. “Our Lord changed it into a harvest of souls. “Three thousand families were baptized, who immediately started meeting in homes where they had apostolic teaching, fellowship, prayer and broke bread. This resulted in signs and miracles, sharing of material blessings and daily addition of new souls. (Acts 26 | The 10/40 Window Reporter

2:37-47) Very soon, an additional 5,000 families were added (Acts 4:4). Soon the new believers became disciples and multiplied (Acts 6:1,7). “The best way to celebrate the birthday of the church is to replicate the original first Pentecost – i.e. to reap a huge harvest of souls. Aim at baptizing at least 3,000 souls. And why not! After all, you believe in a great and awesome God for whom nothing is impossible.” Dr. Choudhrie has seen God do the seemingly impossible in India: enabling the Starfish Alliance to baptize 1 million people between Pentecost 2009 and Pentecost 2010. “Every Christian is ‘ordained’ to fulfill the Great Commission of our Lord. The best way to fulfill that Command is to bring forth lasting fruit (John 15:16).” www.WIN1040.com

(Sudan )

north A

fter decades of civil war, millions of deaths, millions of displaced men, women, and children, North and South Sudan finally divided. On July 9, 2011, South Sudan (mostly Christian) separated from North Sudan (mostly Muslim). And finally there was peace. Almost.

Many feared the North would attack when the South declared independence. Thankfully, that did not happen. However, the relationship between the two nations continues to be tense. And conflict is on the rise. The government of North Sudan, led by President Omar al-Bashir, has been disputing the border between the two countries. The al-Bashir regime is concerned because the current demarcation leaves the majority of the oil fields in South Sudan. This is something they seem ready and willing to fight over. On a smaller and more insidious scale, the North is already waging war on the South. 28 | The 10/40 Window Reporter

h vs. south? South Sudanese militias loyal to North Sudan’s government have been kidnapping South Sudanese Christians and forcing them to enter their ranks. There are at least three of these groups being supported by the government of North Sudan as they fight against the South Sudanese government. In January 2012, two Catholic priests and two Episcopal leaders were abducted at gunpoint. They were tortured before being released. “Christians in Sudan have complained of a spike on threats against them by South Sudanese militias rebelling against the new South Sudan government,” reports Compass Direct. “The South Sudanese rebels go house-to-house in Khartoum and other towns in the north abducting mainly Christian men. Hundreds of young men have been forcibly conscripted, while older men are either killed or ransomed.” Not only does the government of North Sudan support rebels seeking to overthrow the government of South Sudan, they are carrying out May 2012

a genocide in the border region between the two nations.

“This is a mass atrocity that has attracted little attention,” writes a journalist with the Seattle Times. “A government starving its people, massacring them, raping them and bombing them. Tens of thousands of Nuba have been living in caves since June [2011] when the government began going house to house, killing families with rebel ties and driving out international aid groups.” Like the campaign against Darfur, President al-Bashir is attempting to exterminate the people of the Nuba mountains in South Kordofan. Time World asks: “Assassinations. Pitched battles. Cross-border bombing raids. Countless refugees. At what point will the rising conflict between Sudan and South Sudan be recognized as a new war?”

Pray for

peace between these two nations. Ask the Lord to protect South Sudan from attacks by the North. (The Bible, Psalm 91:11) the salvation of North Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir. (The Bible, 1 Timothy 2:1-4) Christian humanitarian groups to be allowed to provide aid for refugees and IDPs (internally displaced people) in South Sudan and in the southern region of North Sudan. (The Bible, Psalm 18:2) the Lord to protect Christians in North Sudan from kidnapping and give them strength as they face persecution. (The Bible, 1 Peter 4:18) the Kingdom of God to come to both North and South Sudan. (The Bible, Matthew 6:10)

Kuwait “Jameleh, are you still coming over to my house today?” Amerah asked eagerly. “My family was wondering how you are. They haven’t seen you in such a long time.” Amerah had known Jameleh all of her life. Their friendship went back to when they were just babies and their parents had been neighbors in the same apartment building in Kuwait City. But recently their schoolwork had kept them from seeing much of each other. “Of course I’m coming to your house,” Jameleh answered. “I love your family. I miss hearing your father’s funny stories and eating your mother’s delicious sweets. Let’s go!” Amerah smiled. It would be like a reunion! And she had something special she wanted to share with her dear friend, Jameleh. Amerah and Jameleh were excellent students. In just two more years they would graduate – an achievement that would bring honor to their families. As young ladies growing up in Kuwait, this was very important to both of them. The girls walked toward Amerah’s home, happily discussing their school classes, what they planned to do after graduation, and even the new puppy Amerah’s brother had recently brought home. “We’ll always be friends,” Jamelah said, linking arms with Amerah. “Forever!” Amerah agreed. As the girls walked in the back door to Amerah’s home, they were greeted by the puppy. 30 | The 10/40 Window Reporter

www.WIN1040.com

“He’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen,” Jameleh said as she knelt down to pet it. Amerah’s mother was in the kitchen. “Jamelah!” She stopped what she was doing and gave Jamelah a big hug. She asked Jamelah questions about school and her family, then said, “It’s so good to see you. I’ll have dinner ready in just a few minutes. You girls go do your homework.” As they walked into the living room and began to unpack their packs, Jameleh noticed something on the table. It was a simple, leather-bound book with a symbol etched in the corner. Jameleh leaned forward and realized the symbol was a cross! “What’s the matter?” Amerah asked when she heard her friend gasp. Then she realized that Jameleh was looking at the Bible. “Oh…” “Why is that there?!” Jameleh asked. Amerah picked up the Bible, but before she could begin to explain, her mother entered the room. She looked to her for help. “Mother…?” “Ah… so you have found our special book,”Amerah’s mother said with a kind smile. She told the girls to sit down and then explained to Jemeleh, “Our family now follows Isa Masih” (Jesus the Messiah). Jameleh looked at Amerah. “Everyone??” Amerah nodded. Her mother began to tell Jameleh what that meant. They had heard this story about Isa, she said: “Isa came to earth, lived a perfect life, died on a cross, and rose again from the dead. Isa is more than a prophet. He is God’s only Son. And His death paid the penalty for our disobedience. That disobedience is called ‘sin.’” © 2012 Window International Network

Hymie: WindowKids, there’s something

about this story that you need to understand. In Kuwait, most of the people follow the false religion of Islam. Turning away from Islam and beginning to follow Isa (Jesus) is not allowed. So Jameleh took a very big risk when she accepted the Bible. If she is caught with that Bible, she could be in big trouble. She might be arrested by the police or mistreated by her family. She might even be killed! Just for wanting to know more about Jesus Christ! Amerah didn’t give Jameleh the Bible to put her in danger though. She gave it to her because she cares about her friend. The Bible contains the words of life. It is the Word of God. And it tells all about how Jesus (Isa) came to rescue us from the punishment we deserve for breaking His commands.

Hymie: WindowKids, Jameleh and

Amerah and other Christians in Kuwait are in great danger. It’s up to us to pray for them. We are, after all, their Brothers and Sisters in Christ! God is faithful and will answer our prayers. In Psalm 91 it says, “He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.” Let’s pray that for our Family in Kuwait.

Amerah’s mother took the Bible and opened it. She began to read aloud: “For God so love the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.” Amerah watched as Jameleh’s expression went from shock to curiosity. When Amerah’s mother finished and went back to the kitchen to finish dinner, Jamelah asked, “Is it true?” “Yes,” Amerah nodded. “We have all begun to follow Isa.” “No. I mean… is this true?” She pointed at the Bible. “Did Isa really pay the penalty for my sin?” “Yes.” Amerah extended the Bible to Jameleh. “You can take this with you, if you want to. Then you can read about Isa yourself.” Jemeleh accepted the Bible and put it into her backpack. The two girls began studying their homework and in just a few minutes, dinner was ready. May 2012

If you are a follower of Jesus, He wants you to share His Word with others. He wants you to tell everyone about what He did – dying for them and rising from the dead! If you aren’t a follower of Jesus, read the verses below. They talk about why we all need Him. “…All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…” (The Bible, Romans 3:23) “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (The Bible, Romans 5:8) “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (The Bible, Romans 10:9) “’Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” (The Bible, Romans 10:13) If you would like to become a follower of Jesus, tell God that you are sorry for breaking His commands (sinning). Promise Him that you will turn away from your sin and turn toward Him. Tell Him that you believe Jesus died to pay the penalty for your sin and rose from the dead. Then ask God to forgive your sin and invite Jesus to be the Lord of your life. When you do that, WindowKids, you become a child of God and a disciple (follower) of Jesus! Next you need to start reading God’s Word. You can find it in all sorts of languages at www.biblegateway.com. You can also listen to the New Testament in many languages at www.joshuaproject.net/nt-audio.php. www.WIN1040.com
