moving forward

Another year passes, and we find ourselves reflecting on the times behind us and the times ahead. It’s a big, juicy, colourful world out there, full of uncertainties and things to progress toward – a healthier future for our young ones, an inclusive community for ourselves and our loved ones, an outpour of creativity made possible with AI. This editorial explores the people we have been and the people we hope to become, forecasting colours and textures, and

celebrating design trends that p ush us for ward into the new era. At its heart, this editorial is anchored in themes of transformations. Identity is a complex thing – something that does not stand still, but rather, is always in motion. This editorial celebrates the process of becoming, the act of play, the joy of rediscovery, the reassembling of parts to produce the people we are and the people we will be.

The art of dressing up.. Remember when identity was a game? You could be a pirate or a detective or a doctor or an astronaut and no one would ever question you. There was a point, it seems, when it stopped being an exciting thing. When we found ourselves more rigid, less adaptable, less fluid – growing inward and not outward. Our visions became focused and our horizons less wide. Routine replaced expansion. Self-ridicule replaced self-discovery. In an attempt to bring back the joys of identity

exploration, we remind ourselves of the simple art of dressing up. We do it every day, only we forgot that there’s freedom in it. We’ll put on a face for work, for school, for our friends, for our partners, for our families. But it’s these relationships that suffer when we don’t give ourselves the room to grow, to expand, to play. To nurture our many faces, our many personas, we encourage dressing up to be a game – an opportunity for growth, and an act of love.

Transformations resemble a game of dressing up, where embodying different characters becomes a magical tool for self-expression. The concept of selfhood is fluid a n d c o n s t a n t l y evo l v i n g — a dynamic entity that requires space to g row, p l ay, a n d b reat h e .

In seasons... What does it mean to wholeheartedly embrace ourselves? While the good days are undeniably uplifting, akin to the ebb and flow of tides and seasons, they coexist with challenging moments. Just as love requires equilibriu m, achieving balance necessitates a dance between highs and lows. Transformations will

always pose challenges, letting go is no easy feat, futures remain uncertain, and the absence of answers is a constant. So, from what we can piece together, to embrace ourselves means to welcome the diverse seasons of selfhood. In the inevitability of change, our ability to draw close to both ourselves and others becomes our anchor.

Transformations require the skill of adjusting to the changing seasons, providing a chance for exploration. Embracing this process allows us to inhabit different personas and craft alternative realities, offering an escape from the routine of our daily lives. In doing so, we unlock the doors to boundless creativity and self-discovery.
