#3 the doubles issue

Editorial This is the third issue, I still used some low quality pictures I had left from my email back-up adventure and some new ones with a better quality. Don’t worry, you probably won’t notice any difference because of (or thanks to) the poor quality of the printing. As previously, I will keep on trying to show what I consider being core skaters and skating. I’m not talking about level, but about how genuine they consider and act in skateboarding.

I never figured out if Sean was either crazy or from another planet for real. Most humble and naive person ever. Check his part in Colour Your Memories video. Sean please, come back to europe!

The Doubles There are two hard things in shooting portraits. First: find a background which emphasizes the subject. Second: try to make the pausing for the picture look natural. I’m not good dealing with those things so I tried to solve the problem shooting skaters at the moment and place they would probably feel the most comfortable: on the spot they’re skating. I hope it will work in their favour.

Raw energy, pure kindness, true friendship. Jose is a real person in the best way you can get it. He has a couple of old parts, like 10 years old, in which he was already skating hard at some spots in Barcelona you might not even know now. Believe me, don’t try to watch those parts.

Is it a spaceship, is it the moon? Huge hard flip for Marcel on the blue spot. Black and white really doesn’t give credit to this place. At least, I hope it gives the one Marcel deserves for his good mood. Was so fun when you were around, come back when winter will be too cold in Germany.

It was hard to skate this day with the usual heat and humidity of mid-July. Martin was so excited about being in Barcelona in the summer, he was jumping on every spot we would hit. That’s probably one of the few times he stopped to burn one down. Nice ollie!

We made it to Roma !! a.k.a. the Chicco Tour

Here are few fragments from the Dumb Skateboards Tour in Italy that took place end of July. The only plan: let’s meet in Milano. The only motivation: let’s try once again to drive all the way to Roma. Once again because we tried already twice and got lost in endless sessions on the way. There are too many spots in Italy! Chicco and me arrived in Milano and stayed 2 days with Gio before we jumped in Chicco’s car, heading towards Bologna to Chicco’s place, to skate the spots Chicco knew. Simone joined us there and we skated a lot of nice spots. I really didn’t expect Bologna to be so good to skate. The town is small enough that you don’t have to drive too long to move from one spot to another, but big enough to offer a big variety of things. The University is huge which means there is a lot of nice and cheap places to eat or have a drink. I won’t talk about the night life!... After a couple of days in Bologna, we decided to keep on driving south, aiming for Roma. We stopped on the way at Chicco’s father’s place to verify that hospitality was a genetic thing and finally made it to Roma. Roma! We didn’t spend enough time there, but at least we were with the best guide ever. Olympic gold medal in spot seeking, double qualification in world competition of street pushing and four awards in skating non-spots, the one and only Jonathan Levin. Let’s try to go back there, once again!

One week in Cyprus with Gerard

Cyprus is an amazing island! The perfect place to go if you want to make a break during the winter. The food is good, spots are perfect, people are really friendly and beaches are nice. I went there with Gerard from Ekta and my travelling buddy: Pierre Prospero. The week was full of laughs, fun sessions and sun burns. What more could we expect in April? You should give it a try, but watch your step!

Seems like Lars, like the other tall guys, falls down in slo-mo. Definitely took him more time to reach the ground from up there. I don’t think he actually took any slam when he was trying this nose slide.

This picture is the perfect definition of autumn. Low light, leaves on the ground, you have to wear a shirt or a hoodie. It was still warm enough for Dominik to mosh this nose grind down.

Too old-school to be a real youngster and too young to be from the 70s. Too English to be Italian but totally not from the U.K. Quiet enough to not be a pain in the ass and as cool as you wish your session mate to be. Nico is a chameleon, he’ll feel comfortable in any situation and around every kind of people and obviously on different kind of spots as you can see on this fs feeble around the bench.
