The Richardson Pion eer Weyburn Gold Wings had a successful weekend, as they posted back-toback wins over the visiting Battlefords Sharks.

The Gold Wings shut out the Sharks 1-0 on Sat urday evening, and 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.

In their Saturday game, the Gold Wings’ lone goal was scored by Randell

Banga in the third period, assisted by Abigail Manz and Kendal Leader. Banga was named the game star for the Gold Wings.

Amy Swayze was in net for the full 60 minutes, and saved all 31 shots on net.

On Sunday, the Gold Wings scored twice in the second period and late in the third to claim the win.

Kiah Shields scored, with assists from Manz and Julianne Girardin, and Hadley Revenko scored on the powerplay, with assists by Ashton Bender and Girardin.

The winning goal was Shields’ second goal, as sisted by Jenay Hyndman and Bender.

Hailey Sibbald was in net for this game, and

saved 35 of the 37 shots made on net.

In team news, Girardin has committed to play for the University of Regina Cougars for the 2023-24 season.

The next action for the Gold Wings will be in Sas katoon on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 26 and 27, with the game time at 2 p.m. both days.

Weyburn Gold Wings post back-to-back wins WCS

Pitcher Jorde Chartrand of Weyburn and Team Canada Softball captured the silver medal at the 2022 Pan American Soft ball Championships in Guatemala.

The championships were held in Guatemala City from Nov. 12-19, and Team Canada went in

The final day was a big one for Canada as they faced Puerto Rico in the first game of the day.

They defeated them in five innings by a score of 7-0. Jorde closed out the last two innings with a

perfect six up six down, the last two outs being strikeouts.

She came into the game in relief in the fourth in ning, and retired all three batters, two of them flying out and one grounding out to third base.

In the fifth inning, she got three batters in a row, two by strike-out.

Next they faced Cuba in the semi final game. They also defeated them in five innings by a score of 9-0.

The Gold medal game was against Team USA.

Canada came up short in the final game losing 12-1.

The Weyburn Comp Eagles Senior boys volley ball team travelled to Swift Current this past weekend for the 5A provincial vol leyball championships.

During pool play the boys found their rhythm and finished third with a 6-4 win/loss ratio. The playoffs had them lined up to play Regina Martin Collegiate.

The boys came out firing and won the first set. Martin made some adjustments and won the second. This forced a third set, which was a battle but Weyburn lost 13-15 in the third set. Martin went on to play in the final.

“There was a lot of parity among the teams this year and basically all games were really tight and it was good competi tion. We had a talented team that continually im proved throughout the season,” said coach Cory Olson.

“We met our goal by making provincials, and finishing fifth in 5A at these championships was an accomplishment.”

Several of the senior members of the team will continue their volleyball pursuits during the up coming club season play ing in a U18 division for local coach Garyn Topola.
