Copacabana An Amateur Production presented by Clacton Musical Theatre Society

Her name was Lola. She was a showgirl… Barry Manilow’s Grammy Award-winning song you never forgot is now brought to life on stage! A love letter to the Technicolor musicals of the 1940s, Barry Manilow’s Copacabana presents the story of Lola as told through the eyes of Stephen, a present day aspiring songwriter whose imagination takes him back to a time when music and passion were always in fashion. He dreams up Lola, fresh off the plane from Tulsa, who arrives in New York with show-biz aspirations. Tony (who looks amazingly like Stephen!) is a bartender/composer who falls in love with Lola and helps her become a Copa girl.

Wed 25 Jan: 7.30pm Thu 26 Jan: 7.30pm Fri 27 Jan: 7.30pm Sat 28 Jan: 2:30 & 7.30pm

While performing, Lola attracts the amorous attentions of Rico (who wears a diamond). Rico abducts Lola and takes her to his rival nightclub in Havana. Tony, with the help of his Copacabana friends, must now rescue Lola before…well, even if you know the song, there are still a few surprises!

Music by Barry Manilow Lyrics by Bruce Sussman and Jack Feldman Book by Barry Manilow, Jack Feldman and Bruce Sussman Orchestrations by Andy Rumble This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Josef Weinberger Ltd

The Importance of Being Earnest An Amateur Production Presented by Clacton Amateur Dramatic Society The Importance of Being Earnest is the most renowned of Oscar Wilde’s comedies. It’s the story of two bachelors, John ‘Jack’ Worthing and Algernon ‘Algy’ Moncrieff, who create alter egos named Ernest to escape their tiresome lives. They attempt to win the hearts of two women who, conveniently, claim to only love men

called Ernest. The pair struggle to keep up with their own stories and become tangled in a tale of deception, disguise and misadventure. The elaborate plot ridicules Victorian sensibilities with some of the best loved, and, indeed bizarre, characters to be found on the modern stage.
