In his nine seasons as the head coach at Wesley College, Jerry Kobasa has totally rebuilt the men’s program at his alma mater to one of the best in the Nation. A long-time respected fixture in Delaware sports, Kobasa took a team that had just two winning seasons in 17 years before his arrival and taken them to the NCAA Tournament four times in the last six seasons. Now the winningest coach in Wesley Division III history, Kobasa’s teams have produced three All-Americans, three conference players of the year, three conference rookies of the year, six ECAC AllStar selections and 11 all-region honors. The Wolverines have had a first team all-conference player in all but one of his seasons. This past season, Wesley, which reached as high as sixth in the D3hoops. com Top 25 Poll, enjoyed its best year in program-history with a 23-4 record, including a Capital Athletic Conference regular season title, its first-ever NCAA Tournament victory with a thrilling win over longtime PAC rival Albright, and a 12-game winning streak, breaking the record that was matched the season prior. While Kobasa earned CAC and Regional Coach of the Year honors, as well as being named a finalist for the Glenn Robinson National Coach of the Year award, big man David Langan was named the CAC Player of the Year and also earned AllAmerica honors while also being selected to play in the Reese’s Division III All-Star Game. Senior Eric Selby also established himself as one of the better guards in the Region and earned All-Conference honors for the first time in his career. Two years ago, the Wolverines enjoyed its first-ever 20-win season and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. In the midst of the year, Wesley matched a programrecord with 11-straight wins which included victories over No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan, ninth-ranked St. Mary’s and Cabrini, all of whom advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16, and a pair reaching the Elite 8. Paul Reynolds became Kobasa’s second AllAmerican at Wesley, and he was also named the CAC and ECAC Player of the Year and was selected to play in Reese’s Division III All-Star Game. There were several other milestones for Kobasa and the Wolverines in the 2012-13 season. With a near-perfect record in January, Kobasa was named the DIII News Coach of the Month and Wesley earned its first-ever National ranking, reaching as high as No. 24. David Lan-

gan joined Reynolds on the All-CAC First Team, marking the first time a pair of Wolverines were named first team all-conference, and freshman Wayne Lennon was named to the DIII News All-Freshman Team, the CAC Rookie of the Year and D3hoops.com Mid-Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year. To cap off the year, Kobasa was inducted into the BlueGold Basketball Hall of Fame at the Delaware State High School All-Star Game. During the 2011-12 season, the Wolverines overcame several injuries throughout the year but won four of their last five games to advance to, and host a CAC Tournament Game. The team recorded at least ten CAC victories for the fourth-straight season and Paul Reynolds went on to earn All-CAC and All-Region honors. During the season, Kobasa earned his 100th career victory with a 75-68 win over Frostburg. Wesley’s 12th and final win of the season was Kobasa’s 108th at the school, tying him for the most in program-history. His 2010-11 team was ranked as high as No. 2 in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional rankings and reached the CAC Championship game for the third straight year. Paul Reynolds and Darrell Johnson earned All-CAC honors and Reynolds was named all-region by D3hoops.com. With 18 wins, the team tied the 200809 squad for the second most in the Division III era. In the process, Kobasa was named the CAC Co-Coach of the Year. The Wolverines continued their journey to the top with a Division III school record 19 wins and second straight NCAA Tournament appearance. Wesley also featured the CAC Rookie of the Year in Paul Reynolds, who finished among the national leaders in field goal percentage and two All-CAC selections. In 2008-09, the team posted 18 wins and Wesley’s first conference championship in men’s basketball in 21 years, resulting in the program’s first bid to the NCAA Championships. The Wolverines led the conference in scoring average, steals, turnover margin, assist/turnover ratio, offensive rebounds, and threepoint field goals. Rashawn Johnson was named the CAC Player of the Year after leading the conference in scoring and was named both all-region and All-American. Assistant Coach Eric Selby

Dean Burrows will be entering his third season on Coach Jerry Kobasa’s staff at Wesley College. The 2014-2015 season will be his first in the role of assistant head coach. In his first two seasons, Burrows has witnessed the rewriting of the men’s basketball program’s record book. During his time on staff, the Wolverines have amassed an overall record of 43-12 while going 23-5 in Capital Athletic Conference play. The 2012-2013 campaign was Burrows’ first season on staff and the Wolverines would go on to break the school record for wins in a season, tie the school record for most consecutive wins, defeat the nation’s #1 ranked team, receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III tournament after finishing as the runner-up in the CAC Tournament and ranked in the D3Hoops. com MBB Top 25 on two separate occasions. There was no let-up in Burrows second season as once again, the Wolverines re-wrote the program’s record book. The 2013-2014 season saw Wesley break the school record for wins and consecutive victories. In addition to these feats, the Navy & White won the program’s first CAC regular season title and made a second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III tournament where they won their first-ever NCAA Tournament game. The Wolverines spent all but the first week of the season ranked in the D3hoops.com Top 25 and climbed all the way to #6 in the polls. Prior to joining the college ranks, Burrows coached basketball at the high school level for 11 years. Burrows broke into the coaching ranks at his alma mater, Salesianum School (Wilmington, DE), where he served as an assistant for three years. After graduating from the University of Delaware, Burrows moved to Fort Myers, FL where he served as the assistant dean of students and assistant basketball coach at Bishop Verot Catholic High School. THANK YOU, JIM WENTWORTH

“When you mention the name, Wentworth, it meant one important thing. FAMILY!!! That included the Wentworth Family, the Wesley Basketball Family and the Wesley Family. He represented Wesley College for forty years, caring and touching everyone’s life here on campus. I came to Wesley in 1967, and to this day, have never heard anyone not hold Coach Wentworth in the highest esteem. I think the highest compliment a parent can give to a coach is, ‘I want my son to play for that coach.’ While I had daughters, if I had a son, he would play for Coach Jim Wentworth. Thanks Coach for touching so many lives and for being a very big part of Wesley College’s History.” Wesley College Men’s Basketball Head Coach Jerry Kobasa
