Canoe Be a Leader?

What Is "Canoe Be a Leader?" This program is designed for girls who are currently in 6th-12th grade. The program will consist of several events, starting in November of 2010 and ending in May of 2011, which will culminate in an adventure weekend near Cumberland Falls. Events will range in focus from outdoor adventure, to careers, to volunteering to paddling and much more. Girls must participate in at least 2 events to qualify for the final trip.

How did we choose the events? Luckily for us, we had some very involved girls who participated in the program last year who wanted to help plan this year’s program. We met, and they gave us many ideas and listened to ours (telling us what they liked, and what they didn’t!) This program is really meant to be about the girls,so we have always relied heavily on Girl-Planning. We ask girls to help us plan where we are going, what we are doing, where we are sleeping and, really, anything in between!

How is this program possible?

Thanks to a generous donation by Lisa and Dan Jones the “Canoe Be a Leader?” program can be offered for the low fee of $7.50 for each event. This allows participants in the program to pay very little for very cool experiences that might not otherwise have been possible. We also offer Financial Assistance for all of our events. If you have questions about Financial Assistance, please contact Christy Dupin: cdupin@kyanags.org or 502-636-0900 ext. 23100.

How can you get involved?

There are several ways that you can participate in the “Canoe Be a Leader?” program. You can get involved in the “Canoe Be a Leader Challenge” which is explained on the next page, or you can attend any or all of our events! Just fill out the registration form, and send it back to the Council Office along with payment for the events that you plan on attending. If you have any other questions, please contact Christy Dupin: cdupin@kyanags.org or 502-636-0900 ext. 23100.
